You Could Own Wolverine’s Claws from X-MEN: THE LAST STAND

$

One of the items going on sale at the upcoming 20/21 Pop Culture auction is a pair of Wolverine’s claws worn by Hugh Jackman in X-Men: The Last Stand. The claws coming from that particular film in the franchise isn’t the best selling point. They just spent $200 million making a movie that retconned all of the major events/mistakes in that film with X-Men: Days of Future Past. Still, the Daily Mail reports that the claws are expected to sell between AU$19,000 and AU$28,6000. Right now, I’m sure Wolverine cosplayers are considering how to come up with that much cash. Just consider yourselves lucky that the claws are just made out of steel, and not the fictional metal adamantium.

The 20/21 Pop Culture auction takes place Tuesday, December 16th, at Christie’s auction house in London.

Marty Hits 88 in BACK TO THE FUTURE Poster by Matt Chase

There’s always enough road to get up to 88 in this Back to the Future poster Matt Chase did for the “CRAZY 4 CULT: BACK IN L.A.” art show, which opens Friday, December 12th at Gallery 1988.
I knew Marty could pull off some pretty slick maneuvers after seeing him evade the Libyans chasing him in front of the Twin Pines Mall (or was it the Lone Pine Mall?), but spelling out 88 by doing doughnuts is even more impressive.

Shawn Levy Drops out of MINECRAFT Film

After a month of being attached to direct a live-action adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft, Shawn Levy has dropped out. That’s not all, though. According to Variety, writers Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney have left the Warner Bros. project as well.

So what happened? Apparently, the creative team presented a new idea to the studio last month, but that idea didn’t fit with what the video game developers were looking for, so Levy and the studio thought that the best idea for them to part ways. In an interview with WSJ, Levy said,

"What happened simply is, Warners asked me to develop kind of how might this ever be a story for a movie, because it’s not a narrative game. We came up with an approach that felt good to us and I discussed it with Mojang, the game makers who make Minecraft, and they were like, that doesn’t sound like what we want if we’re gonna see a movie get made. We don’t know what we want, but that doesn’t feel right. And I said okay, well that feels like — that’s a movie I can envision."

I’m not sure what a Minecraft film would even look like. It seems like it would be a difficult film concept to come up with, but that’s coming from a guy who has never really played the game. I just watch my kids play during every free moment they have. Levy did say that it would kind of have a Goonies flair to and said,

"I thought it could have been a lot of fun and fulfilled a lot of the qualities people love about the game. But you know what it’s not my game, they know what they’re doing. And the truth is there is a long history of trying to make great movies out of games, and they’re rarely done well. I think Mojang is still figuring out what they want. We gave it a shot and it wasn’t the right fit, and so these things happen."

Levy has a couple other projects that he’s been eyeing, including 40 Thieves, which is a retelling of the Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. He’s also looking a taking on a reimagining of Tinkerbell with Melissa McCarthy and The City That Sailed with Will Smith.

Darren Aronofsky Looking to Direct THE GOOD NURSE

Darren Aronofsky has established himself as a director who is great at making huge big budget movies like Noah and smaller art house type film like Black Swan. His last movie was Noah, which was his big dream project, and I liked it! I’ve been curious to see what he would do next. After all, what does a director do after they make their dream project?

He’s been developing a couple of things, such as an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam for HBO. The Tracking Board is saying that he's looking to direct a film adaptation of The Good Nurse, which based on the novel by Charles Graeber. It’s based on the true story of a nurse who was also an insane serial killer who was implicated in the deaths of hundreds of people.

The film is set up at Lionsgate, and it’s being written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The book is an investigative journalist’s look at the nurse, whose name is Charlie Cullen, and it follows the detectives who put together the case against him. This definitely sounds like a story that Aronofsky could turn into an incredible film.

Here's the description of the book:

After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed ‘The Angel of Death’ by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favourite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history. Cullen’s murderous career in the world’s most trusted profession spanned sixteen years and nine hospitals across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Investigative journalist Charles Graeber’s portrait of Cullen depicts a surprisingly intelligent and complicated young man whose promising career was overwhelmed by his compulsion to kill, and whose shy demeanor masked a twisted interior life hidden even to his family and friends. Were it not for the hardboiled, unrelenting work of two former Newark homicide detectives racing to put together the pieces of Cullen’s professional past, and a fellow nurse willing to put everything at risk, including her job and the safety of her children, there’s no telling how many more lives could have been lost. In the tradition of In Cold Blood, The Good Nurse does more than chronicle Cullen’s deadly career and the breathless efforts to stop him; it paints an incredibly vivid portrait of madness and offers an urgent, terrifying tale of murder, friendship and betrayal.

Scream TV Series to Re-Create Drew Barrymore’s Scene from Original Film

scream-tv-series-to-re-create-drew-barrymores-scene-from-original-film

I have no idea what to expect from the upcoming Scream-inspired TV series being developed by MTV. One of the last things we heard was that the series wouldn’t even feature the iconic Ghost Face mask, which kind of makes the series pointless, because that was Scream’s staple. But there’s a new bit of news that could mean otherwise.

There’s a report from Bloody Disgusting that indicates that they may actually pay homage to the original films after all. They say that the series will recreate the classic opening scene from the original Scream, and it will supposedly take place in the first episode of the series. That opening sequence is one of the most infamous horror scenes in movie history.

Actress Bella Thorne also confirmed in a fan chat via Yahoo Celebrity that she will be the victim in this scene. She was asked if the rumors of her appearing in Scream were true, and this was her reply:

“Yes it is true. I will re-enact the famous scene of Drew Barrymore in the original series.”

The series is said to center on a YouTube viral video that goes incredibly wrong. It will lead to adverse repercussions for teenager Audrey Jesen and will also serve as the “catalyst for a murder and opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.”

The first season will have 10 episodes, and it stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Connor Weil, Carlson Young, Tracy Middendorf, Joel Gretsch, and newcomer Amadeus Serafini. It will debut in October 2015.

JUPITER ASCENDING - TV Spot and Four Character Posters

I have a feeling Jupiter Ascending is going to be one of those big budget movies that is going to crash and burn at the box office. I hate to say that because for the most part I enjoy the movies the Wachowskis have made. This marketing for this movie just isn’t doing it for me. I’m sure it’s going to look beautiful up on the big screen, but what I know of the story hasn’t grabbed me.

We have an extended TV spot and four new character poster for the movie featuring the main stars of the film, Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, and Eddie Redmayne.

Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

The movie comes out on February 6th, 2015.

I love eating gummy candy, but this gummy python is out of control! It comes from Vat19, and it's a 7 foot long, 26 pound, 36,000 calorie piece of ridiculous greatness. After eating something like this, I would probably never want to eat or even look at another gummy again. It's pretty crazy that someone actually thought this thing up, and then made it. Do you think you could down it? Here are the details:

Folks, the Gummy Party Python is about as ridiculous as candy can get. Simply put, it is a demanding piece of confectionery that blurs the line between food and art.

Tipping the scales at nearly 27 pounds, this huge candy snake packs over 36,000 calories into its nearly 8-foot-long frame.

Boasting incredible details including intricate eyes, extensive and blended coloring, ridged coils, and thousands of individually carved scales, the Party Python will steal the show at any party.

Giant Gummy Pythons are hand made in the USA and available in two dual-flavor combinations.

Magnet is gearing up to release the fourth film in their [REC] horror franchise, [REC] 4: Apocalypse, in the US, and they have a horrific new red-band trailer for you to check out. I've also included eight bloody photos. I’ve enjoyed watching the films in this franchise, and I’m ready for more! Here’s the synopsis:

Several hours have passed since the terrible events that ravaged the old building in Barcelona. After the chaos of the first few moments, the army decided to intervene and an elite group of soldiers infiltrated the building in order to plant detonators and put an end to this nightmare once and for all. The mission is a success; quick and precise. Angela Vidal, the young television reporter who entered the building with the fireman just hours before, manages to make it out alive. But what they don’t know is that she hasn’t made it out of the building alone; within her she carries the seed of the strange infection. She is to be taken to a provisional quarantine facility, a high-security installation where she will have to stay in isolation for several days. A perfect location for the virus to be reborn in all its splendor. It will take on new and even more deadly forms, setting the scene for horrors we could only have imagined, before finally revealing its true nature. The apocalypse has just begun…

The movie is set to be released in theaters and VOD on January 2nd, 2015.

Simon Pegg Will Play The Devil in THE GATHERING

Simon Pegg playing the Devil?! Sounds good to me! The actor has been cast in a horror comedy called The Gathering, and it sounds awesome! I never thought I’d see Pegg as the Devil, but now that it’s out in the universe it makes complete sense. The movie is being directed by Jon Keeyes, and he talked to Fangoria about the project. This is how he describes the fantastic story that he’s going to tell:

“On Halloween night, the devil brings together Mary Shelley, H.P. Lovecraft, Bram Stoker, and Edgar Allan Poe in purgatory to tell their best untold tales, the idea being that whoever has the best story of the night gets to leave purgatory forever ... We've tried to put a spin on the essence of the stories they're most well-known for. So Stoker tells a vampire tale, but it's not about Dracula. H.P. Lovecraft's story is sort of Re-Animator-esque, set in the Victorian era.
“We've approached it with the idea of what these writers would be like all these years since they died. They've got a slighty modern sensibility, as if they've kept up with the changing times while they've been in purgatory, while still holding onto the personalities and nuances they would have had in the eras they lived in. So there's a whole lot of bickering and rivalry.”

Now wait until you see this cult classic cast. Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) has been cast as Poe, David Naughton (American Werewolf in London) is playing Lovecraft, and Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) is taking on the role of Bram Stoker. Pegg’s addition to the cast is just the icing on the horrific cake. Keeyes also reveals the following other cast members:

“We've got Udo Kier, Clint Howard, Robert Englund, Lin Shaye, Ashley Laurence, Gunnar Hansen, Bill Moseley, Debbie Rochon, and William Sadler committed to do the movie — it's a huge cast.”

That, my friends, is Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Chop Top, the Ice Cream Man, and the Grim Reaper, all in the same movie!

The Gathering begins shooting in May 2015, and I'm way excited to see it come together.

This has been a big Hobbit week for Stephen Colbert! First we saw him portraying some Hobbit characters on the cover of Entertainment Weekly magazine. Then there was that epically awesome interview he conducted with Smaug the dragon, which I think is one of the greatest interviews ever conducted. Now today we bring you a few new photos of Colbert as Legolas, Bilbo, and Gandalf, as well as a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot. This is all done in preparation for the release of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, which comes out on December 17th, 2014.

Marvel's AGENT CARTER Clip and First 2 Episode Synopses Revealed

Marvel has released a clip and the synopses for the first two episodes of Agent Carter. The first episode called “Now is Not the End,” and it was written by Captain America: The Winter Solider writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It was directed by Louis D’Esposito, and here’s the description:

“Peggy is contacted by old acquaintance Howard Stark when he is framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons and can trust no one else. To help Peggy clear Stark’s name, he insists his butler, Edwin Jarvis, be at her beck and call–whether she likes it or not. But the risk is great: If caught, Agent Carter could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison…or worse.”

The second episode is titled “Bridge and Tunnel.” It was written by Eric Pearson and helmed by one of the Captain America: The Winter Solider directors, Joe Russo. This is the official description:

“Howard Stark’s deadliest weapon has fallen into enemy hands, and only Agent Carter can recover it. But can she do so before her undercover mission is discovered by SSR Chief Dooley and Agent Thompson?”

We recently showed you a stylish new character poster for the series. Hayley Attwell just looks incredibly slick as the title character. This show is going to be so damn good. Below is an overall description of the series:

It’s 1946 and peace has dealt Agent Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy finds herself stuck doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field, putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys. But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers – a.k.a. Captain America. When old acquaintance Howard Stark finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy — the only person he can trust — to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis, to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for selling these weapons of mass destruction. If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse.

Starring Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Chad Michael Murray as SSR Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as SSR Agent Daniel Sousa, James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, and Shea Whigham as SSR Chief Roger Dooley.

Marvel’s Agent Carter is set to premiere January 6th, 2015 on ABC.

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons Cast in FARGO Season 2

Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) are the two latest actors to join the cast of Fargo Season 2. I like both of these actors, and this will be a great project for them to take on.

It was previously reported that Rachel Keller was cast in the series and that Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Rec) were in discussions. Donovan will play a man named Dodd, Keller has been cast as Simone, and if Offerman signs up, he’ll take on a character named Carl.

According to THR, Dunst will play a character named Peggy Blomquist, “a beautician with big-city dreams who is trying to figure out who she really is and what she really wants as she struggles with societal expectations.” As for Plemons, he will play Ed, “Peggy's husband and a butcher's assistant who wants to be supportive of his wife's self-discovery — even if he doesn't quite understand it.”

The series was created by Noah Hawley, who says the second season will be set in Sioux Falls in 1979. The series will center on feature Lou Solverson, who is the father of Molly Solverson from Season 1. He is a 33-year-old veteran returning from the Vietnam War. Hawley explained a little about why he went this route.

“That time period is interesting — post-Vietnam, post-Watergate … the best of America versus worst. That sense, I think, that this war had come home with people, and the violence and brutality of it. Lou Salverson went to Vietnam and came home, but now he’s come back and it’s here — it’s domestic.”

The series will premiere sometime in 2015.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2: ANGEL OF DEATH Poster - “She Never Left”

Hammer Films has released an eerie new one-sheet for their sequel The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death. As you can see, it features a pair of gnarly, rotting hands holding the face of a young boy and covering his eyes. That’s enough to cause anyone to have to go to therapy for the rest of their lives.

Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh Harsh has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve (Phoebe Fox), a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve’s efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black.

The movie was directed by Tom Harper and written by Jon Croker, and The Woman in Black 2 Angel of Death will be released on January 2, 2015 in the U.S.

Martin Campbell to Direct SEBASTIAN X

Martin Campbell, the director behind films such as Casino Royale and Green Lantern, is set to direct another big screen comic book adaptation. It’s an indie title called Sebastian X, and the project is set up at Voltage Pictures and Valhalla Motion Pictures.

The graphic novel was released in 2005 and created by writer Michelangelo La Neve (Song’e Napule) and drawn by Stuart Immonen. The screenplay for the film will be written by Bill Marsilii (Deja Vu).

The story follows an elite cop who, “after a near-fatal injury, is implanted with the memories of the world’s most notorious terrorist — Sebastian X — in order to infiltrate his group before their next attack.”

Terminator, Aliens, and The Walking Dead Producer Gale Anne Hurd is also set to produce Sebastian X alongside Oscar winner Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker) and Craig J. Flores, along with original publishers Pierre Spengler and Fabrice Giger of Humanoids.

Campbell really hasn’t done a feature since Green Lantern. He’s mostly been making TV movies. It’s kind of sad, and I hope he picks up a new film project soon. Casino Royale was such an awesome movie, Green Lantern was more of a studio committee-directed film, so I don’t blame Campbell.

His name has been attached to several film projects in the last year. Some of those include the Navy SEAL thriller Hunter Killer as well as G.I. Joe 3. Sebastian X sounds like it could be a cool project for him to take on, though.

Richard Donner’s Stand Be Me is such a great film. It seems like one of those films that I  watch all the time. If you’re also a fan of the movie, I’ve got a series of then and now photos here for you to check out that was put together by coreysmoo. They are photos of several of the places that were featured in the film, and they show us what those places look like now. What’s crazy about these is the fact that not a lot has changed. Everything pretty much looks the same except for the modern day cars.

Trailer for Anna Kendrik’s THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Anna Kendrick sure does love to sing, and it’s a good thing that she’s good at it! On top of Pitch Perfect 2 and Into the Woods, she has another musical coming out called The Last Five Years, and today we bring you the first trailer for it.

The film is based on an off-Broadway musical by Jason Robert Brown, and the story revolves around the demise of a marriage from the perspectives of a successful writer husband and his struggling actress wife.

I grew up around musical theater because it’s what my dad did, so I’m open to watching these kinds of movies, and this one doesn’t look too bad.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS by Tony award winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown is a musical deconstruction of a love affair and a marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie Wellerstein is a young, talented up and coming novelist who falls in love with Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through songs using an intercutting time line device; all of Cathy’s songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair while Jamie’s songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. Its beautiful pop music score portrays an honest, heartbreaking, often funny, exploration of love and it's consequences on individual identity.

The movie will be released on Valentine’s Day in 2015.

Legendary Pictures has announced that their upcoming King Kong prequel will now be called Kong: Skull Island. They have also moved the release date back from November 4th, 2016 to March 10th, 2017. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D as well, and here’s some information that they’ve released for the project:

In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with KONG: SKULL ISLAND, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).  Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.  Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.  Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, upcoming Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce.  The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.

The production company also has announced that their Untitled Great Wall Project will be released in 3D by Universal Pictures on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, with the Chinese market opening in early December 2016. Here’s some information on that:

Directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), UNTITLED GREAT WALL PROJECT tells the story of an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure.  The first English language production for Yimou is also set to be the largest film ever shot entirely in China.  Production is set to begin in Spring 2015.  UNTITLED GREAT WALL PROJECT will be released in the U.S. in 3D by Universal Pictures with the goal of being released in China in early December 2016.

"Let's get dangerous!"

Artist Mitch Mueller has created this extremely cool version of the classic 1990s Disney cartoon superhero Darkwing Duck. As you can see, it is a much darker and grittier version of the character than we know. Mueller is the same artist who brought us a badass fan illustration of GizmoDuck, a character from the same series. You can check that piece out here if you haven't seen it already. Darkwing Duck was one of those shows I enjoyed watching all of the time when I was growing up. It was just loaded with a ton of great characters and fun humor, and it was pretty action-packed for a kids series.

More Info on Spider-Man in CIVIL WAR and Sony’s Shared Universe Plans

$

As most of you already know by now, Marvel wanted to introduce Spider-Man into their cinematic universe in Captain America: Civil War. Unfortunately, Sony and Marvel couldn’t reach an agreement. At least, not for that film. Sony and Columbia Pictures co-president of production Michael De Luca did see the value in the concept, though, and though it could have helped their own Spider-Man franchise. In an email that he sent to Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, he said,

"I really feel, in my heart of hearts, that the new spiderman [sic] in cap 3 could just appear in his own film, be it sinister six or a kick ass spidey film of his own, after that intro in cap 3 and people would be cool with it."

It definitely couldn’t hurt them! Sharing the character with Marvel can only help Sony do something awesome with this superhero character. Before Marvel and Sony started talking, Sony was planning for a female Spidey movie and what the Daily Beast describes as an "Avengers-like superhero extravaganza incorporating characters from different upcoming Spider-Man-related projects." De Luca is quoted as saying,

"Seems to me maybe, since the Spider-man universe itself is deep, you guys should look at sinister six, new spidey, female movie and venom as linked pieces leading to eventual mega movie ala Feige and Fox and not stand alone single films. It's early in all these and you can still map out a blueprint for connective tissue."

I’m sorry, but that just doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s crazy that they were actually planning to throw all of these characters into one film hoping that it be as big as The Avengers. I don’t think Sony could ever make a superhero film as good as a Marvel film. Some of the executives at the studio obviously just don’t have the right vision.

I would absolutely love to see a new Spider-Man film that blows me away. I think that if Sony wants to make audiences happy and blow them away with an awesome film, they will need to team up with Marvel to make it happen.
