Mark Hamill Shares Thoughts on STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Since the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released we've seen some hilarious fan reactions, a heartfelt reaction from Kevin Smith, and, of course, George Lucas hasn't even bothered to watch it yet. I'm sure fans would like to know what Mark Hamill thought of the trailer, and in a recent interview with IGN, he opens up about it saying,

"Oh my gosh. You know, I’ll tell you, the most moving aspect of them releasing that trailer was watching a [video] of other people watching it. My daughter put it on for me. It was all these people watching the trailer. Sometimes you get sort of isolated and disconnected because I don’t really follow it as closely as, say, [my son] Nathan does, but to see those people that thrilled, it was moving to me. I actually got a lump in my throat watching that. To see so many people that happy was a thrill. And it’s hard to believe it’s a whole year away that we have to wait but I’m practicing my phrase, 'You have to wait and see.' They asked me not to talk about it and I agreed but it’s hard. People want to know!"

I love that Hamill loves that we, the fans, are all excited for the movie. After I watched the trailer, a bazillion times I started showing it to other people, and at that point I was just watching the reactions on their faces. I love seeing the reactions of people's faces when they see something cool. Hamill went on to talk about the new cast of the film that was teased in the trailer:

"I felt that the minute I met all of them. They’re all wonderful actors. I think they’ve done such a great job of not only the characters themselves, but the people they’ve picked to play them. John Boyega is just wonderful and Daisy, I just think the world of and Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac and Andy Serkis. They’re just… Like I say, this is in very, very good hands. I’m vicariously very proud of them even though I have no justification for being able to be proud!"

I can't wait to see more footage from the movie, but it sounds like it won't happen until Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out. Fans are sure to lose their minds when they see Hamill and Harrison Ford back up on the big screen. They have to include them in the next trailer!

It was also recently reported that Hamill will reprise his role of The Trickster in CW's The Flash

Marvel's Agent Carter, the 6 episode ABC event starring Hayley Atwell, looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Marvel recently released a teaser poster that has Agent Carter striking a pose. I really like this poster and wish I could find a textless version. Like the poster says, the 2-hour premier will be on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015, 8|7c.

Christmas is coming and that means bring out traditional decorations like the nutcracker. If you want to geek up your Christmas, try mixing in a bit of Star Wars with a Darth Vader nutcracker. It's 9 inches tall and costs $40. This would make a great gift for a geek who is also a nutcracker collector.

Lucasfilm has officially unveiled the names of the new main characters that were introduced to us in the trailer. They made the reveal in a pretty cool way as well... They came in the form of Topps trading cards, which debuted on Entertainment Weekly. The names of the characters include:

  • The “ball droid” is BB-8
  • Oscar Isaac is Poe Dameron
  • The Sith is Kylo Ren
  • Daisy Ridley is Rey
  • John Boyega is Finn

Abrams amusingly joked, “I’m only sorry we couldn’t give everyone a stick of gum.” The director told the site that there’s a significance to the number on each of the cards. Those numbers are:

  •  #11 — BB-8 on the move
  • #53 — Poe Dameron in his X-Wing
  • #67 — Kylo Ren ignites his Lightsaber
  • #74 — Rey on her Speeder
  • #76 — Finn on the run
  • #81 — Stormtroopers prepare for battle
  • #88 — X-Wings in formation
  • #96 — The Millennium Falcon

We'll keep you updated on any other Star Wars related announcements as they break!

Smashing Steampunk IRON MAN Art by Jason Kang

Artist Jason Kang, who is a Disney interactive concept artist, created this smashingly awesome Iron Man steampunk art. Most of the Iron Man steampunk art that we've seen features Tony Stark fully geared up. What I like about this one is that we get to see him in the process of having the suit put on him. I imagine the woman is Pepper Potts and the gentleman putting the suit on is Jarvis.

Final Trailer for THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

“You’ll have a tale or two to tell of your own when you come back…”

The final trailer has been released for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and it takes us down Middle Earth memory lane. This is a perfect and enthralling final trailer before we finally see the movie for ourselves. I have a couple friends who have already seen it, and they both had nothing but positive things to say about it. Of course, they were already huge fans of the franchise. For the rest of you big fans out there, when you watch the trailer, try not to get too emotional.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The movie is set to be released on December 17th, and I'm ready for the end to come.

I seriously doubt that The Expendables franchise will make it to part seven, but it it did, I imagine it might turn out to be something like this laugh-out-loud animated parody for The Expendables 7 created by YouTube user El Cid. Make sure you watch until the end after the credits roll. After you watch this, you'll see that The Expendables 7 could be the best film in the franchise!

Sean Penn Goes Ballistic in Trailer for His Action-Thriller THE GUNMAN

sean-penn-goes-ballistic-in-trailer-for-his-action-thriller-the-gunman

Sean Penn has jumped into the old man action film genre with Taken director Pierre Morel in his upcoming film The Gunman. I never thought I'd see Penn do a movie like this at his age, but here he is, and he's kicking ass. Morel managed to bring together a great cast of actors to fill the roles in this movie. Those actors include Javier BardemIdris ElbaRay Winstone and Mark Rylance.

Penn plays a special ops sniper who is looking to retire, after one final job. As you might expect in a movie like this, he can't retire because he's being targeted by his own group. So what does he do? He fights back and threatens to expose all their covert actions. It seems like the typical action film, which makes me wonder even more why Penn took the gig. He doesn't tend to do typical films. Regardless, the movie still looks like it will deliver audiences some entertainment.

Deadly professional assassin Martin Terrier returns to Paris after his latest job determined to get out of the game. Ten years ago he made a promise to return to his childhood sweetheart in the south of France. But circumstances put Martin’s attempted retirement on hold: a key target is flying in to Paris, and there is only one man fit for the task of eliminating him. As Martin flees southwards, desperate to return to the crushing mediocrity of life in a backwater town, he finds his former employers will stop at nothing to regain his services for one last job. Bursting with Gallic irony and visceral brutality, The Gunman (originally published in English as The Prone Gunman) is a shocking and sardonic masterpiece from the late, great master of the French crime novel, J-P Manchette.

The Gunman opens in theaters on March 20th, 2015.

ARROW's Stephen Amell Comments on Shocking Mid-Season Finale Ending

SPOILERS AHEAD — YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Last night's episode of Arrow all led up to a fight between The Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable). The fight was well choreographed and showed a real escalation of skill. In the final moments, Oliver Queen takes a deviating mortal wound from the sword of al Ghul. This death blow was was followed by al Ghul kicking Queen off a cliff. If he were not the title character, it would be safe to assume that Oliver Queen is dead.

Many geeks familiar with Ra's al Ghul lore quickly noted that the Lazarus Pit that has given Ghul a long life also has healing properties. In the promo for the first episode after the winter break, someone is seen approaching the body of Queen.

I believe that it's Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) for a number of reasons. The top one being that he was with the League of Assassins and likely knows the location and has an incentive to keep Queen alive.

My second theory is that the reason the fight happened on that specific mountain is that a Lazarus Pit is hidden nearby. Because if you were al Ghul, wouldn't you want to fight near the magical pit that can heal pretty much any wound?

After the mid-season finale aired Amell (in jest) tweeted:

This led to a few confused or mad twitter followers who didn't think it was funny.

Amell's own mother while watching the show:

Amell took to Facebook to comment on the recent episode:

Facebook. Thank you so much for the enthusiasm spilling out of tonight's fall finale. I've never had anywhere near this amount of feedback. And by feedback, I mostly mean swear words. There were an awful lot of expletives.

Seriously though: Despite the title, our show is bigger than any one character. We're going to prove that to you.

Sit tight... January will be here in no time.
xo

(And look Mom... I'm totally fine.)

I'm excited for the return of the show. I'm also glad the murder of Sara Lance has been solved. Arrow returns January 21st, 2015.

THE WALKING DEAD Featurette - A Look at Season 5's Final Episodes

AMC has released a new featurette for The Walking Dead called "A Look at the Final Episodes of Season 5." It features the cast and crew discussing the series and what fans can look forward to in the second half of Season 5. They tease a huge change that is coming, and one of the aspects of that is the fact that this group of survivors that we've come to know and care about really have no where to go. This is a very grim and bleak series, and it doesn't sound like things are going to get any brighter for them. Isn't that sad?! Poor bastards. The Walking Dead returns Sunday February 8th at 9/8c

The old fashioned harmonies of a barber shop quartet and the smooth and seductive lyrics of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” are wonderfully at odds with each other in this version of the song by Jimmy Fallon and his Tonight Show group The Ragtime Gals, with a guest appearance by Steve Carell. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the cheesy charm of this a capella rendition of Gaye’s classic tune that is currently making the rounds on the Internet.

BBC has released the first promo trailer for Doctor Who’s Christmas special, “Last Christmas.” In the episode Clara and the Doctor find themselves trapped on an arctic base and under attack from some crazy looking slimy creatures. Even though this hasn’t been my favorite season of Doctor Who, I’m still looking forward to watching the Christmas Special. It looks like it will be fun. The episode is set to air on Christmas day.

Video of Adam Savage Building BARBARELLA’S Radical Space Rifle

Adam Savage of MythBusters has released an hour-long video called Adam Savage's One Day Builds, and it shows him building a life-size version of Barbarella’s awesome space rifle. This is an ambitious project, and the video takes us all the way from start to finish.

What’s interesting about Jane Fonda’s weapon is the fact that it has only appeared once, and that was on the cover of an 1968 issue of LIFE Magazine. It never appeared in the movie, so the only reference material that Savage had to work with was the photo from the magazine, which you can see below.

It's time for another One Day Build! You know the drill: Adam tackles a project at his shop from start to finish, explaining his build process along the way. Today's build is a replica of Jane Fonda's iconic Barbarella rifle. The challenge: this iconic sci-fi prop only appeared once, on the cover of a 1968 issue of LIFE Magazine. That's not a lot of reference material to work with!

As you’ll see in the video below, the result of the build is so cool! He pulled it off in spades.

Sega to Adapt SHINOBI, ALTERED BEAST, and More into Movies

Sega is jumping into the movie business, and they are looking to adapt several of their video game properties into movies. They’ve hired former Break Media executive Evan Cholfin to lead their efforts in making all of this happen.

Sega has a pretty big library of titles that they can adapt, and Variety reports that they plan on moving forward with Shinobi, Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Rise of Nightmares, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Fighter, and Golden Axe. These will all be developed as live-action English-language films, and there will be animated spinoffs as well.

I remember playing all of these games when I was growing up! Shinobi, Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Virtua Fighter, and Golden Axe were all favorites of mine. I’m pretty damn excited about the fact that they are getting feature film adaptations.

I have no idea what to expect in terms of film quality, but I hope they’re good. I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of funny, cheesy movies made out of these games as well. Let's face it, as awesome as they are, you just can’t take some of them seriously.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long before we start seeing them go into development. What games listed here are you most excited about seeing turned into a movie?

Don’t Expect that AVENGERS and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Movie Crossover

dont-expect-that-avengers-and-guardians-of-the-galaxy-movie-crossover

A lot of Marvel fans, including me, have been speculating that we would see The Avengers team up with Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Infinity War. I’d love to see them take on Thanos together, but according to director James Gunn, that’s not going to happen. He explains that just because all of these characters exist in the same universe that doesn’t mean they are going to be meeting up and fighting alongside each other. Here’s what Gunn has to say in an interview with Screen Junkies

"We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don't think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all these. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it's going to happen."

As much as I’d like to see it all come together in a perfect way, I’m ok with it if it doesn't. It will make things even more interesting. My question is… will The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy take on Thanos separately without ever meeting each other? Does Thanos launch a full scale attack on Earth and the galactic part of the universe simultaneously so each of the teams will be protecting their own province? Is that why we are going to get a two-part Infinity War film? This is just me speculating, but what do you think Marvel is planning?

Many of them should look familiar to you. I really dig the artist's energetic style. It’s like each piece of his art downed a couple of cans of Red Bull.

Marvel Reveals New ANT-MAN Synopsis and Character Details

Marvel Studios has released some new details for the Peyton Reed-directed Ant-Man film, which wrapped production last week. Those details include an updated plot synopsis and some character info. This information includes four characters that we hadn't heard about being involved with the movie before.

“The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”

As far as the newly revealed characters go, here they are with names of the actors who play each one: Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, and Jordi Mollà as Castillo.

As far as the main cast and characters go, we've got Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket, and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. The movie hit theaters on July 17th, 2015.

Beautiful GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Concept Art- " Take My Hand, Peter"

Concept artist Arnaud Valette (Game of Thrones) has released some incredible new concept art that he created for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The art shows us a different version of one of the more touching emotional moments in the film after Peter Quill grabs the stone and immediately starts to disintegrate due to the intense power that it holds. At that point he sees a vision of his dying mother who offers her hand to her son and says, "Take my hand, Peter." At that point he grabs the hand of Gamora. I loved how this powerful scene was portrayed in the film, but this alternate version looks pretty spectacular as well.
