Red-Band Trailer for Chris Rock’s Comedy TOP FIVE

red-band-trailer-for-chris-rocks-comedy-top-five

It’s been a few years since Chris Rock made a good film. The last movie he made was Grown Ups 2, but the last good movie that I saw him in and enjoyed was in 2010’s Death at a Funeral. He has a new film coming out called Top Five that he wrote, directed, and stars in. It looks like he made a great movie that his fans will enjoy, and I’m looking forward to checking it out. Today we have a red-band trailer for the film for you to enjoy.

Pulsing with the rhythm of his greatest stand-up, Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE takes things to the next level, reveling in the high and the low, and blending a star-studded comedic romp with an irresistible romance. TOP FIVE digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous today—holding it all up to the light in the way only Chris Rock can. Mingling echoes of Woody Allen and Dick Gregory with the energy of Kanye West and Jay Z, TOP FIVE is an original and radically new kind of American movie. Written, directed by, and starring Chris Rock, TOP FIVE tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career—and the past—that he’s left behind.

Top 5 opens in theaters on December 12th.

Michael C. Hall Shares Thoughts on DEXTER Series Finale

Dexter was one of my favorite shows on TV when it was on, and I was sad to see it end. I was even sadder by the way it ended with Lumberjack Dexter sitting at a table looking sad. I tried to force myself to like how the series ended, but that didn’t really work. It just left a bad taste in my mouth, and it’s been labeled one of the worst TV series finale’s of all time.

Turns out, Michael C. Hall didn’t really like the finale either. He was asked about how he reacted when he read the last scene of the series during a recent Reddit AMA, and he replied,

"Probably sadness."

A lot of fans felt the same way, buddy. Of course, he went on to try to explain what the writers were trying to do with that ending.

"Given what [Dexter] had been through, and his attempts to have his cake and eat it too in regards to indulging his compulsion to kill AND have a more authentic life, his self-imposed exile did resonate. I think Dexter came to believe that... anything he touched would eventually be destroyed and so he felt he needed to let it all go. Of course, Dexter is also a pragmatist and a self-preservationalist so he didn't do himself in. But rather put himself on hold."

One of the show’s former showrunners, Clyde Phillips, who left before the series ended, had a much better ending than what we got. He revealed what he would have done about a year ago, and it’s the perfect ending to the dark series. I wish thats’s the one we had seen. In case you missed it, I included it for you to read through below:

"In the very last scene of the series. Dexter wakes up. And everybody is going to think, 'Oh, it was a dream.' And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, 'No, it's not a dream.' Dexter's opening his eyes and he's on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary. They're just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery.
"And in the gallery are all the people that Dexter killed—including the Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer (his brother Rudy), LaGuerta who he was responsible for killing, Doakes who he's arguably responsible for, Rita, who he's arguably responsible for, Lila. All the big deaths, and also whoever the weekly episodic kills were. They are all there.
"That's what I envisioned for the ending of Dexter. That everything we've seen over the past eight seasons has happened in the several seconds from the time they start Dexter's execution to the time they finish the execution and he dies. Literally, his life flashed before his eyes as he was about to die. I think it would have been a great, epic, very satisfying conclusion.
"[That is] what I personally would have done should I have stayed with the show. I chose not to stay with the show, and so everybody did what they did, and I had no problem with that… and I think they did a good job with the final episode. But [that] is what I personally would have pitched."

And that’s personally what I would have wanted to see. But we never will.

Jonah Hill to Star in Todd Phillips’ ARMS AND THE DUDES

The Hangover director Todd Phillips has been developing a true crime comedy for awhile now called Arms and the DudesTHR reports that he has cast Jonah Hill (Moneyball, The Wolf of Wall Street) in the lead role. The Wrap adds that Miles Teller (Whiplash, The Fantastic Four) is being pursued to take on a co-starring role opposite Hill.

Phillips was initially set to just produce the film, but apparently he will now direct it from a script he co-wrote with Jason Smilovic (Lucky Number Slevin). The movie is being adapted from a Rolling Stone article by Guy Lawsom.

The film will tell the story of two stoners from Miami Beach who became arms dealers for the U.S. government. You can read Lawsom’s full article on his official site here.

Both Shia LaBeouf and Jesse Eisenberg were up for the lead role in the movie, but they both dropped out of discussions, and it landed in Hill’s lap. Hill has become quite the great actor, and he has proven that he has a lot of range. He can do the funny comedy roles as well as the heavy dramatic ones. This seems like it will be a great project for him to take on. It would also be awesome to team up with Teller if he ends up being cast.

Andrew Lincoln Wanted Beth to Have a Crush on Rick in THE WALKING DEAD

The mid-season finale of The Walking Dead was brutally sad. I won’t say anything that happened in case you haven’t watched it yet, but it was insanely heart-breaking. Beth and Daryl came to have an interesting bond in the series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Andrew Lincoln reveals that he pitched an idea that would have involved Beth having a crush on Rick, which would have made for a weird yet interesting dynamic.

“I actually pitched an idea, I think in season 3. I said, 'I think Beth should have a crush on Rick. And Rick doesn’t have a clue how to deal with it. And also, Carl is really upset about it. And then Hershel gets involved as well.' And everybody ignored me as usual. But I thought it was quite a good pitch.”

The Beth and Daryl angle was fine, but it would have been nice to see the relationship between Carl and Beth grow a little more. In the end, I’m glad that the writers nixed the Rick and Beth idea. The show is dramatic enough without a weird teenage crush triangle between a dad and his angry and jealous son.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the greatest christmas tree of all time... Godzilla! I came across these photos on Twitter recently, and now I want a Godzilla Christmas tree of my own. After doing a little research I found that the photos were taken back in 2011, and the tree was terrorizing people in the Aqua City Odaiba shopping mall in Tokyo. The photos may be a few years old, but I have never seen them until now. If you haven't either, then here ya go!

Trailer for Ben Stiller’s Comedy WHILE WE'RE YOUNG

A trailer has been released for Ben Stiller’s new comedy While We're Young, which was directed by Noah Baumbach (Greenberg, The Squid and the Whale). I love it when Stiller takes on off-beat comedy projects like this. I was really impressed with what I saw in this trailer, and it looks like a great and entertaining film.

The movie also has a great supporting cast that includes Naomi Watts, Adam Driver, Amanda Seyfried, Charles Grodin, and Adam Horowitz. Here’s the synopsis:

Aging gracefully is never easy, and it may be worse for artists. Josh Srebnick (Ben Stiller) is a New York documentarian who never quite got his due. As he labours over the umpteenth edit of his cerebral new film, it’s plain that he has hit a creative dry patch. Josh and his wife, Cornelia (Naomi Watts), tried to start a family and were unable — and have decided they’re okay with that. Yet for Josh, there is something still missing.
Enter Jamie (Adam Driver, also appearing at the Festival in Hungry Hearts and This is Where I Leave You) and Darby (Amanda Seyfried), who approach Josh after a class he teaches. A young artist couple, they are spontaneous and untethered, ready to drop everything in pursuit of their next passion — retro board games one day, acquiring a pet chicken the next. For Josh, it’s as if a door has opened back to his youth.
It’s not long before the unhappy fortysomethings Josh and Cornelia throw aside friends their own age — including Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz in a sly supporting role — to trail after these young hipsters who seem so plugged in, so uninhibited, so Brooklyn cool. “Before we met,” Josh admits, “the only two feelings I had left were wistful and disdainful.” But is this new inspiration enough to sustain collaboration with artists twenty years his junior?

While We’re Young opens on March 27th 2015.

The SyFy Channel has released a poster for their upcoming 12 Monkeys series. This show looks like it has potential, but we’ll have to wait to see how it all shakes out. You should check out the trailer for it here if you haven’t already.

The show stars Aaron Standford (X2: X-Men United) as Cole, who was played by Bruce Willis in the 1995 movie. The series seems very different from Terry Gilliam’s film, and the story follows the Cole as he travels from 2043 to the present day so that he can locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race. While on his mission, he teams up with Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) as well as a female mental patient named Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire), which is a character loosely based on the character played by Brad Pitt.

12 Monkeys follows the journey of a time traveler, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future. Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.

The series is set to make its premiere on Friday, January 16th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

SOURCE CODE Sequel in Development

I really enjoyed director Duncan Jones’ sci-fi thriller Source Code. Now Variety reports that The Mark Gordon Company and Vendome Pictures are reteaming to develop Source Code 2. Neither the director or star Jake Gyllenhaal will be back, though. This sequel will be directed by Anna Foerster, and the script will be written by original Source Code screenwriter Ben Ripley.

The first movie took place on a Chicago commuter train and followed a soldier who wakes up in someone else's body. Along they way he discovers that he's part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of the train, a mission he has only 8 minutes to complete.

That was such a cool concept, and I imagine that the sequel will implement some of the same kind of scenarios that we saw in the first one. I’d be a lot more interested in the film if Jones came back to direct it, but he’s off doing bigger and better things now.

I actually kind of enjoy watching these Disneynature films, and my kids seem to like them as well. Disney has released a new trailer for their latest nature project called Monkey Kingdom. For you animal lovers out there, this one is sure to melt your heart. Watching these Disneynature films is the only time I really get to go outside and see nature. Here’s the synopsis:

Meet Maya and her curious newborn, Kip, in the brand new trailer for Monkey Kingdom, dropping into theatres this Earth Day.
Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in “Monkey Kingdom,” Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities—and she’s determined to give her son a leg up on the social ladder. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya's whole family is forced to relocate, and she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to lead them to untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future.
Featuring a rich variety of characters, including a mischievous mongoose, simple-minded langur monkeys, predatory leopards and monitor lizards.

Monkey Kingdom was directed by Mark Linfield (Chimpanzee, Earth) and co-directed by Alastair Fothergill (Chimpanzee, Bears). This is the eight animal adventure, and it hits theater in April 17th, 2015.

Here is first trailer for Spike Lee’s new film Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, which he made after he raised $1.5 million on Kickstarter. Lee is a director that is hit or miss with me. He’s made some great films and some crappy ones. This new one definitely looks intriguing as it follows the story of a man who is addicted to blood.

The movie stars Stephen Tyrone Williams, Zaraah Abrahams, Rami Malek, Elvis Nolasco, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Joie Lee, Felicia “Snoop” Pearson, and Jeni Perillo.

Spike Lee’s new stylized thriller DA SWEET BLOOD OF JESUS is a new kind of love story. Dr. Hess Green (Williams) becomes cursed by a mysterious ancient Afrian artifact and is overwhelmed with a newfound thirst for blood. He however is not a vampire. Soon after his transformation he enters into a dangerous romance with Ganja Hightower (Abrahams) that questions the very nature of love, addiction, sex, and status in our seemingly sophisticated society.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus opens in theaters and VOD on February 13th.

It's good to watch a feel good drama that is full of all kinds of life lessons every once in awhile, and it’s good to see Kevin Costner land a solid respectable acting gig. He stars alongside Octavia Spencer (Snowpiercer, The Help) in a new film called Black or White, which comes to us under the direction of Mike Binder (Reign Over Me, The Upside of Anger), who also wrote the script for the movie.

BLACK OR WHITE is the story of a grandfather (Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner) who is suddenly left to care for his beloved granddaughter. When the little girl’s paternal grandmother (Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer) seeks custody, a legal battle ensues that forces the families to confront their true feelings on race, forgiveness and understanding. Anchored by an all-star cast and based on real events, the movie is a look at two seemingly different worlds, in which nothing is as simple as black or white.

The movie hits theaters on January 30th, 2015.

FARGO Season 2 Casting: Jeffrey Donovan and Nick Offerman

If you haven’t watched the first season of FX’s Fargo, you are really missing out on something special. That series was fantastic, and I’m really happy that it’s getting a second season.

According to The Wrap, Rachel Keller has been cast in the series, Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice) is nearing a deal, and Nick Offerman (Parks and Rec) could be joining him. The report says that Donovan will play a man named Dodd, Keller has been cast as Simone, and if Offerman signs up, he’ll take on a character named Carl. Also up for roles are Mike Bradecich and Allan Dobrescu, but descriptions of their roles were not given.

Series creator Noah Hawley already offered some details on the story, which will be set in Sioux Falls in 1979 and feature Lou Solverson, who is the father of Molly Solverson from Season 1. He is a 33-year-old veteran returning from the Vietnam War in the series. Hawley explained a little about why he went this route.

“That time period is interesting — post-Vietnam, post-Watergate … the best of America versus worst. That sense, I think, that this war had come home with people, and the violence and brutality of it. Lou Salverson went to Vietnam and came home, but now he’s come back and it’s here — it’s domestic.”

The series will most likely premiere sometime in 2015, and I’m looking forward to it.

Just in case you missed Saturday Night Live this weekend, they jumped in on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens parody band-wagon. The Star Wars trailer spoof was the best part of the show, and it amusingly pokes fun at the old ages of the returning characters from the story like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia. James Franco hosted the show and he plays Skywalker in the video you're about to watch. Han is hilariously played by Taran Killam, Lando was played by Kenan Thompson), and Leia was portrayed by Bobby Moynihan. Enjoy!

Game of ThronesJason Momoa recently attended the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil. While there he talked a little bit about Aquaman, who will be introduced into the DC cinematic universe in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He’s also set to get his own standalone movie in 2018.

The following information comes from some Twitter updates by DCU Movie Page. During the panel, Momoa revealed that he has a contract with Warner Bros. to appear in four films, that he wants Zack Snyder to direct the standalone movie, and that the character will be badass.

Here’s the series of tweets with all the details of what the actor discussed:

If Aquaman is going to be a badass in these films, Momoa can pull it off. I’m really curious to see what DC Entertainment and WB have planned for bringing this character to life, and what his costume will look like. The standalone film is scheduled to be released in theater on July 27th, 2018.

Concept artist Kyle Brown created this sweet looking sci-fi roadster that he says was inspired by the speeder that we all saw for the first time in the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. Daisy Ridley's character is the one who jumped on the vehicle and rode away in it. This art shows us a much more polished version with a candy apple red and chrome, hot rod kind of look to it.

Josh Brolin Talks Thanos in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - “It’s Thanos Against Everyone”

Josh Brolin being cast as Thanos in the Marvel cinematic universe was perfection. We got our first look at Brolin as the villainous character in Guardians of the Galaxy, and it got me incredibly excited for whatever future plans Marvel Studios has for him. When they announced Avengers: Infinity War, my head exploded along with everybody else's.

While talking to ComingSoon.net, Brolin discussed the Mad Titan character that he portrays, and teased what will be coming in Infinity War.

“I love the idea of Thanos. Ultimately, it’s Thanos against everyone. Why wouldn’t you do that?”

The actor then talked about the man who persuaded him to take on the role. That man was Marvel Studios Co-President, and two-time Marvel One-Shot director, Louis D’Esposito. This is what Brolin said about him:

“Thanos came along because of my good friend Louis D’Esposito. He and I used to train together. We did ‘Hollow Man’ together. He called me up and started talking about this thing. It was nice because I could intimately talk to him about it. What I liked. What I didn’t like about the whole idea of it… It was really exciting because of the possibilities that it could be come[sic]. Not as an idea or as a blockbuster, but just as something different. It’s a character mentality.”

It’s going to be great to see how this character develops until he takes on everyone in Avengers: Infinity War. He’s expected to appear again in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but that has yet to be confirmed. I’m sure that he will show up again at some point before the two-part Avengers film, though, which hits theaters on May 4th, 2018 and May 3th, 2019.

Christian Slater's 1980 STAR WARS Toy Commercial

Here’s a great 1980 Star Wars action figure commercial that starred a very young Christian Slater . The blonde child next to him is apparently Peter Billingsley, the kid from A Christmas Story. The commercial was for the Darth Vader Collector’s Case from Kenner. I’ve always liked Slater as an actor. I don’t know what happened but somewhere along the way he just stopped being cast in movies. The guy just needs a really good comeback role. Maybe it could be in one of these upcoming Star Wars movies!
