breaking-bad-music-video-remix-this-is-my-product

Here's a super awesome Breaking Bad music video remix created by Matthijs_Vlot. It's called "This is my product," and he puts together quite a catchy tune by cutting together dialogue from the the series and splicing it together with a sick beat using the theme song from the show. I can only imagine how much tedious work it took to put this video together. Fans of the series are sure to love this, and thankfully we have the Better Call Saul spinoff show to look forward to watching in the near future!

Anatomy of a Gummy Bear

If you’ve seen the Body Worlds Exhibit, which features real human bodies preserved by plastination, you know there are things in that exhibit that can’t be unseen. I got the same “I’ll never look at that the same again” thought in my head when I saw this “scientifically-accurate model” of the inside of a gummy bear. I think I’ll be sticking with gummy worms from now on.

The Anatomy Gummy Bear was designed by Jason Freeny, and is 8” x 4.5” x 12”. Now all Freeny needs to do is design the anatomy of a Gushers fruit snack and ruin those for me too, you bastard.

BOND 24 Is Called SPECTRE, Cast and Teaser Poster Revealed

bond-24-is-called-spectra-cast-revealed-and-teaser-poster

Sony Pictures, MGM Studios, and Eon Productions have announced highly anticipated details about the 24th James Bond movie. They made the announcement from the Bond sound stage at Pinewood Studios. The movie will be called Spectre, a teaser poster was released, and you will find more information regarding the Sam Mendes directed film below thanks to the official James Bond Twitter account that live-tweeted the big event announcement.

For those of you not familiar with the name Spectre, it's the fictional terrorist organization that was introduced in the Bond novel Thunderball, and it was also present in the beginning of the movie Dr. No. The name stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, which is led by the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Returning to direct Spectre is Sam Mendes, whose Skyfall was the highest-grossing entry in the history of the Bond franchise — not to mention one of the best reviewed. Spectre also marks Craig’s fourth outing as the iconic character.

Skyfall screenwriter John Logan came back to script the film, and joining him were screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who’ve worked on the film franchise since 1999′s The World Is Not Enough

The film starts shooting on Monday, and it is expected to hit several locations such as London, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, and Austria. Spectre opens up in theaters on November 6th, 2015.

Below you'll find a video of the announcement, a title teaser video, photos of the cast, and the new Bond car. The teaser poster is above.

Daniel Craig is obviously set to reprise his role, and this is who will be joining him in his new adventure:

Below are some more details from the press release:

James Bond Producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today released the title of the 24th James Bond adventure, SPECTRE.  The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his fourth film as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007.  SPECTRE begins principal photography on Monday, December 8, and is set for global release on November 6, 2015.
Along with Daniel Craig, Mendes presented the returning cast, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear as well as introducing Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Andrew Scott.  Mendes also revealed Bond’s sleek new Aston Martin, the DB10, created exclusively for SPECTRE.
A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.
The 007 production will be based at Pinewood Studios, and on location in London, Mexico City, Rome and Tangier and Erfoud, in Morocco.  Bond will return to the snow once again, this time in Sölden, along with other Austrian locations, Obertilliach, and Lake Altaussee.
Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “We’re excited to announce Daniel’s fourth installment in the series and thrilled that Sam has taken on the challenge of following on the success of SKYFALL with SPECTRE.”.
Written by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, Director of Photography is Hoyte van Hoytema and Editor is Lee Smith.  Production Designer, Dennis Gassner returns along with Costume Designer, Jany Temime and Composer, Thomas Newman.  Action Specialist, Alexander Witt is the 2nd Unit Director.  Stunt Coordinator is Gary Powell, SFX Supervisor is Chris Corbould, and Visual Effects Supervisor is Steve Begg.
Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, was a worldwide box office phenomenon, opening #1 in 70 territories around the world, taking over $1.1 billion worldwide and setting a new all-time box office record in the UK by becoming the first film to take over £100 million.
The launch of SPECTRE was streamed live on 007.com and Facebook.com/JamesBond007, and the video is now available on demand at both sites.

The Joker Gets Away in Christmas T-Shirt Art by Matt Ferguson

We will never forget the tragic events of November 13, 1992, when, after not being able to shower, Batman smelled, his sidekick Robin laid an egg, the Batmobile lost a wheel, and the Joker got away. What people often don’t even mention is that after crashing through the roof in a one horse open tree, the Joker busted out and went laughing all the weeeeeeeeee! It was salt on the wound. It was unnecessary. It was un-American.

Matt Ferguson depicts this tragedy, a.k.a. the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Christmas with The Joker,” in this piece of holiday art we found over on Xombiedirge. I've included a clip of these events below, as a reminder and as a tribute to those brave, brave Gothamites. If you, too, would like to pay your respects, you can purchase the design on a T-shirt at TeeFury.

AMC Orders Pilot for Seth Rogen’s PREACHER

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have written a TV series adaptation of of the comic book series Preacher, and AMC just ordered a pilot episode. This is definitely a different and interesting project for the comedic filmmaking duo, but I think they’ll deliver something awesome. The two are also attached to direct the pilot.

The comic was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon in the '90s. It tells the story of Texas reverend Jesse Custer who, after merging with the escaped offspring of a demon and an angel, finds himself imbued with the word of God, the power to command anyone to do his bidding. Teamed with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip O'Hare, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, Custer sets out across America to track down the Almighty and force him to explain why he abandoned creation.

Rogen and Goldberg released the following statement:

“Preacher has been our favorite comic since it first came out. Garth Ennis is one of our idols and it’s an incredible honor to be working on this. We promise we won’t make too many dick jokes and ruin it.”

Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive vice president of original programming, production and digital content added,

“Every once in a while you find a project where all the elements line up beautifully. With Preacher, it starts with a bold, compelling, and thought-provoking comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and a whole lot of fans who already know Jesse Custer, Cassidy, and Tulip. Add to that the passionate and talented Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin, an incredible producing team in Neal Moritz, the Original Film team and our good friends at Sony Pictures Television, and we have everything we need to be VERY excited to move forward on ‘Preacher.’”

The pilot will go into production in the summer of 2015 and will most likely air in 2016.

Matthew Vaughn to Develop GHOSTGIRL Movie

$

Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn and his Marv Films production company have just acquired the movie rights to Tonya Hurley’s popular Ghostgirl book series. The plan is obviously to adapt it for the big screen. Vaughn is an extremely talented filmmaker who always takes on great film projects. The story centers on a high school senior who is desperate to be popular even after she dies from choking on a Gummi Bear. Here’s the description from the book:

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. And if I should die before I awake, I pray the popular attend my wake.
Charlotte Usher feels practically invisible at school, and then one day she really is invisible. Even worse: she’s dead. And all because she choked on a gummy bear. But being dead doesn’t stop Charlotte from wanting to be popular; it just makes her more creative about achieving her goal.
If you thought high school was a matter of life or death, wait till you see just how true that is. In this satirical, yet heartfelt novel, Hurley explores the invisibility we all feel at some times and the lengths we’ll go to be seen.

Vaughn is only attached to produce the film, and I’m sure he’ll bring in the best talent for the job of bringing the story to the screen. The filmmaker’s latest project is the badass looking action spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service.

I’ve also included a stop motion animated trailer for the film that was shown at Comic-Con back in July. It’s has nothing to do with what Vaughn has planned, but it’s still worth checking out.

The psychotic Professor Genki from Saints Row’s fictional reality show “Murder Time, Fun Time” doesn’t exactly scream charity. But starting today, that’s exactly what Volition is using this terrifyingly adorable character for.

To promote the release of Saints Row: The Third back in 2011, Volition created a real, functioning version of the in game vehicle, the Genki-Mobile. (Minus functioning man-apult.) But starting today they’re auctioning it off on eBay, and 100% of the proceeds are going to Wings of Life, a charity that funds research for treatment for severe spinal cord injury.

So if you’re looking for a sweet new ride that will get you all the ladies or fellas you could ever want, then head over to eBay and place a bid on this piece of awesome gaming memorabilia!

Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he has joined the voice cast of Disney’s upcoming animated adventure film Moana. The movie is being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin). According to a Tweet Johnson sent out, he will provide the voice to a character named Maui.

“Excited to star as "Maui" in Disney's next big animated musical, MOANA. Incredible story!
**clears throat #TimeToSing”

The film is set in the South Pacific, and it follows “the title navigator as she sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her journey she teams up with the legendary demi-god Maui to traverse the open ocean on a voyage where they will encounter enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”

This seems like the perfect Disney film and character for for Johnson to take on. I’m sure he’ll be great! Moana is set to be released on November 23rd, 2016. I've included a piece of fan art created by Deviant Art user HapaAve.

Disney's feature film adaptation of Into the Woods looks fantastic. I especially like the look of the movie, and it has an all-star cast that I don't think will disappoint. Some of fans of the Broadway musical that the movie is based on are a little worried about the adaptation and how the music will be presented. Well, Anna Kendrick plays Cinderella in the film, and Disney has released one of the songs she sings, called  "On the Steps of the Palace." This is apparently one of the big hit songs from the musical, and Cinderella is singing about the guy she just met, and she's weighing her options. Kendrick really does have a beautiful voice. Have a listen! The movie comes out on December 25th.

Artist Chris Skinner created a couple of awesome prints that were inspired by the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They give us a different perspective from two of the coolest scenes that we saw in the teaser. The first features the Millennium Falcon racing through a desert while being attacked by two Tie Fighters. The second includes the dark Sith type figure in the woods with his crossguard lightsaber as he hunts someone down in the dark woods. If you want to by either of these prints, click here. Thanks to the artist for sending these over to us!

Luke Evans May be Dropping Out of THE CROW

It seems like there has been a huge shake up with The Crow reboot production. Yesterday we learned that director F. Javier Gutiérrez was replaced with music video director Corin Hardy. Now it looks like Luke Evans is going to drop out of the project, which really sucks, because he would have been awesome in the movie.

Den of Geek recently had the opportunity to talk to Evans and they asked him for an update on what was going on with the movie. His response wasn't a positive one:

“It’s not [progressing], no. No, at the minute The Crow is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer!”

It sounds to me like he's been waiting around for something to happen with the film, but since nothing has, he's ready to move on. If Evans does leave, it would be a huge blow to the project. Before Evans came on board, Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, and Tom Hiddleston were all either attached to the project or up for the part.

I don't blame Evans for wanting to leave though. he was cast in the film back in 2012, and I imagine things can get frustrating when development of a film is stalled and changes keep getting made.

The script for the film was written by Cliff DorfmanJames O’Barr, the creator of the original comic, will serve as creative consultant. According to O'Barr, the plan was to make a page-for-page adaptation of the book. I'm not sure if that's still the plan now that the movie has a new director.

Production was supposed to start spring 2015, but who knows what will happen at this point?

Corridor Digital has released an amazingly fun live-action short film called "MiniDrones Blew Up My Toys!" It was created by Niko Pueringer and Sam Gorski, and the action-packed adventure follows a team of remote control cars, as well as a team of Parrot MiniDrones, in a battle over stolen batteries. The battery bandits do this to save the life of their teddy bear friend.

The video is loaded with fun special effects, awesome RC Cars, and some radical tricks and explosions. This is seriously just as fun as one of those crazy scenes from Fast and the Furious franchise. Enjoy!

SPECTRE: A Brief History of James Bond's Greatest Enemy

$

SPECTRE: the Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion. This organization has been the bane of one 007 James Bond's existence since Thunderball, the film where they first made their debut. Now that they've officially been announced as the focus for the upcoming movie, we figured it'd be great to give you a brief history of one of James Bond's greatest enemies.

Creation

In the original Bond novels, author Ian Fleming felt he had reached an impasse. The year was 1959, and Fleming was writing what he knew would become the eventual film Thunderball. Fearing that the Cold War would end before the film had wrapped, he thought it best to create a nation neutral enemy in place of his former criminal masterminds SMERSH (a Russian acronym meaning "Death to Spies"). It was then he created SPECTRE, which was not only nation neutral but featured the baddest of the bad worldwide.

SPECTRE is headed up by one Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Fleming's original envisioning of the character casts Blofeld as a physically dominating man. In the novels he is nearly 300 pounds of all muscle, as well as incredibly intelligent. He is described as a man driven by power alone, and unlike Bond, doesn't drink, smoke, or have sex.

The film version of Blofeld, up until this point, has shown us a much more frail and older genius. More maniacal than calculated. This version of Blofeld is still very brilliant, but much less menacing and successful than his novel counterpart. Blofeld in the novels never had a Persian cat either, and I think that's a shame.

Personnel

In the novels, SPECTRE is made up of members of the Mafia, Gestapo, Unione Corse, and the secret police of Yugoslavia. Modern interpretations will undoubtedly update this lineup, but expect a team of high level crooks nationwide to be under the Octopus umbrella.

In the novels each member has a number system that rotates in twos periodically. In real life, this is done to prevent spies from matching identities to specific numbers. At the time of Bond's arrival in Thunderball, Blofeld (leader) is actually number two as opposed to his one rank in the films. In the films, number rank was the decider of what number you had, which led to the infamous Austin Powers joke...

Locations

SPECTRE operates anywhere and everywhere. Their first home base was in Paris, but then later moved to islands, yachts, volcanos and whatever cool place a villain might want to hide out. Seriously, these guys wrote the book on secret hide outs. If you see a villain with a cool hide out, chances are he stole the idea from SPECTRE.

Goals

Pop culture has already engrained the goals of SPECTRE into your mind with its numerous parodies and nods to the series. SPECTRE is bent on world domination, but not with the giant lasers and world crippling devices we've seen before. SPECTRE largely plays off the world's major superpowers and acts independently of both to cripple and weaken both targets while they fight each other. Their strategy for success was shown quite well in From Russia with Love. Two fish fight to the death while the third fish waits to kill the victor. Expect SPECTRE to be playing both sides of the table in this installment.

What This All Means For The New Movie

Honestly, it looks like Sam Mendes is playing his cards close the chest on this one. None of the new characters revealed bear any similarities (in name at least) to any past SPECTRE villains, film or novel. While the big internet rumor was going for a while the Christoph Waltz (playing Oberhauser) would be revealed to be Ernst Stavro Blofeld, a more accurate likeness to the novelization Blofeld would be Dave Bautista, who's playing Mr. Hinx.

The real question is, if Blofeld is not in the film, where is he? Do we accept that he is dead and the timeline reflects that? The optimist in me hopes that maybe well see him near the end and the film will be a continuation of SPECTRE vs. Bond. Given Daniel Craig's age (46) and the rising price tag for Mendes, I really hope not, as I would like to see both in tow if a follow up film would bring such awesomeness. Who knows if that's even in the cards at this point?

While the real reason for the resurgence of SPECTRE is due to the ending of a never ending copyright battle between parties in the courts, I like the fact that SPECTRE has made its return while Mi6 is in a state of flux. Hopefully they play off of that in the film, and hopefully we are in for a film that could somehow top Skyfall.

Sony Hack: Surprising Details on SPIDER-MAN, MIB 3, and Slams on Adam Sandler

$
0
0

To say Sony Pictures got hacked badly would undersell just how bad. 100TB of data was taken, and more and more of that data is continually finding its way onto the Internet. Leaked so far are sensitive internal emails, full digital copies of movies, deal memos, employee criminal background checks, employee social security numbers, employee salaries, employee medical data, unused scripts, and details of why individual staffers got laid off. And that's just from less than 1TB of data.

Pretty much anyone who has worked for or with Sony Pictures is going to have all their information spread all over the web. Also, because there is still so much yet to be poured over, we are going to be seeing stuff from this hack for years.

The team at Gawker found a text file called "Sony_2012_Comments" which is full of anonymous comments from Sony staffers presumably from 2012. Gawker's biggest digestion from all the comments "Above all: people who work at Sony are fucking tired of bad Adam Sandler movies." Hear-hear, I say. I love Sandler's old stuff but the newer stuff is terrible, with maybe special exemption for the movies that include Drew Barrymore. I'm a sucker for those.

Here are a few great slams against Sandler's recent films:

There is a general "blah-ness" to the films we produce. Although we manage to produce an innovative film once in awhile, Social Network, Moneyball, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we continue to be saddled with the mundane, formulaic Adam Sandler films. Let's raise the bar a little on the films we produce, and inspire employees that they are working on the next Social Network. That said, there's a strange dichotomy of encouraging us to be fiscally responsible, but then upper management allows certain talent and filmmakers to bleed us dry with their outlandish requests for private jets, wardrobe and grooming stylists- and are surprised when they are asked to work more than 5 hours to promote their film.
In TV and Theatrical, I hope management looks closely at the money spent on development and term deals to ensure efficiency. There are a lot of term deal personnel as well as creative personnel, yet we only release a dozen or so Columbia Pictures a year, for example. And will we still be paying for Adam Sandler? Why?
It is commendable that SPE understands/supports the importance of risk-taking, particularly in how the we [sic] pick films to greenlight. However, the studio needs to change deal structure that has been in place with Happy Madison, as this arrangement has disproportionately benefitted Adam Sandler and his team, relative to SPE.

Here's some surprising info on Men In Black 3 and Spider-Man:

Are you aware that Men In Black 3 may gross $600M at the box office, and yet will lose money for SPE? Shouldn't we question that strategy? Why are some studios making Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight - and we are considering movies like Moneyball, Steve Jobs story, Captain Phillips Story, Evel Knievel story, etc. Are you aware that SPE only has 1 franchise - Spiderman. Yet, it took 5 years to generate a sequel? Spidey 3 was released in summer 2007, #4 in 2012. Don't harry potters come out over 2-3 years? Are you aware that SPE has only 1 franchise - Spidey? Yet we waited 5 years after Spidey 3 (2007) to release #4? Have you read the SEC annual report? Disney will make $300M on Spidey merchandise this year alone. We won't!

It's good to know people at Sony are thinking what we are thinking about their movies. I just wonder if it has leadership capable of making it a competing studio. Who knows if Sony has even been able to stop the hacking that continues to embarrass them? Good luck, Sony Pictures. You're going to need it.
