Catwoman 1989 - Ruiz Burgos’ Saturday Evening Post Series

0
0

We’ve seen quite a bit of geek art inspired by Norman Rockwell’s Saturday Evening post covers. But a couple of months ago, Ruiz Burgos released one of the biggest and best collections of Rockwell-inspired art for a series he seems keen on continuing. His latest piece stays within the DC universe and features Catwoman being busted in the middle of a jewelry heist. I’m about 90% sure that Burgos modeled Selina Kyle on Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. And I’m 100% sure he modeled the Police Officer on Stafford Repp, who played Chief O'Hara on the ‘60s Batman series. The extra assuredness comes from the fact that you can see the name O’Hara underneath his badge.

I hope Burgos takes on some Marvel characters in the future. He's done a fantastic job with all of the DC heroes and villains so far.

Will SUPERGIRL Be Played by VAMPIRE DIARIES Star Claire Holt?

0
0

It looks like DC Entertainment is getting closer to casting an actress to take on the title role in CBS's Supergirl series. They have been testing several actresses for the part and, according to The Wrap, actress Claire Holt is one of them. Holt is best know for her role on Vampire Diaries and its spinoff series The Originals. I don't watch either of those shows, so I have no idea if she's a talented actress or not. But she definitely seems to have the look for the character.

The new series will follow the "exploits of Kara Zor-El. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin (also known as Superman). But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) and Ali Adler (Chuck) are writing and executive producing the project. It was also recently revealed that Supergirl will possibly share the same universe as Arrow and The Flash.

What do you think of the possibility of Holt playing Supergirl?

Spider-Man Civil War Suit Fan Art - Iron Spider

A 3D digital artist that goes by the named of Mars has released a spectacular piece of Spider-Man fan art based on Iron Spider in the Civil War series. I would really love to see Spider-Man sporting this suit in the Marvel cinematic universe. Hopefully Marvel can work some things out with Sony Pictures to make it happen! You can see some of Mars’ previous Iron Man art that we posted here. I’ve always loved the Iron Spider design! The image above is based on the one below.

Official Plot Synopsis for the FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

Fans just do not seem to be happy with anything they've seen or heard about director Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot. There really seems to be a lot of hate building up for it. There have been some things that I like, and other things that I don't regarding what I've heard about the movie. But I am going to keep an open mind. I want the movie to be good. We're just going to have to wait and see how it turns out.

A couple of weeks ago a possible plot synopsis hit the internet. We still don't know if that is legit or not, but if you want to read it, click here. We now have an official plot synopsis that the studio released on Rotten Tomatoes. This is the first official story information that we've seen so far for the movie.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. (C) Fox

That seems to go along with some story details that leaked out a couple of months ago. They completely changed the origin story, but I'm still interested to see how this movie plays out. This could be a really cool movie, even if it isn't a true adaption of the comic book. We've already seen that crappy adaptation, so maybe this will be a better vision. Look, I like the director and I think it has an amazingly talented young cast of actors. So there are some good things going for this movie. Hopefully they are all utilized well.

The Fantastic Four stars Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Jamie Bell, Kate Mara, and Toby Kebbell. It hits theaters in 3D on August 7,th 2015.

"The best talking animal franchise since Babe."

The latest Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies takes on one of this summer's best films, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This is a movie that shocked me with how amazing it was.  I thought the film would be good, I just didn't think it would be that good. Now it's time to have some laughs at the film's expense.

Audiences went bananas over the latest film in cinema's wordiest-titled franchise, so relive this summer's blockbuster hit, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Or is it Rise? We can never remember.

Andy Serkis Playing Multiple Roles in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS?

It was recently confirmed that the menacing voice narrating the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer belonged to Andy Serkis. It sounds like Serkis' role in this movie is bigger than initially thought, as he might be playing multiple characters in the film.

According to a source for Jedi News, Serkis will be playing more than one role in the story. The site reports that that one of the roles is motion capture, which is obviously a given. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he took on several motion capture parts. They go on to say that he will be part of a "group of unbelievably athletic and acrobatic motion capture characters." Among the actors who are bringing these characters to life are parkour expect Pip Anderson, and someone "whom [the source believes] to be Crystal Clarke."

As for one of the other roles Serkis is playing, he's supposedly taking on a "pivotal role in the first act story arc that entwines with Daisy Ridley's backstory," and then they tease that the role "may have more to it than it seems in the first instance."

Of course, none of this has been confirmed at this point, but it makes sense that Serkis would play a couple different characters in the movie. As always, we'll keep you updated on all things Star Wars as they break!

There's an influx of steampunk Iron Man art on the internet recently, and today I bring you the most badass looking one of all! It comes from Nagy Norbert, and he gave Iron man a crazy hardcore look. I'm not sure how steam is running that arc reactor, but it really doesn't matter. This is just such a cool design, and if you want to check out the others that we've posted click here and here.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN - Doomsday Confirmed and Villain Easter Eggs Revealed

batman-v-superman-doomsday-confirmed-and-villain-easter-eggs-revealed

Let's take a little break from all the Star Wars news, and talk about some things happening with Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The following information might be considered SPOILER territory for some of you, so I'm just throwing out the warning. The information contains a few surprise villain Easter Eggs that will be included in the story.

It was previously reported that Doomsday would be in the movie, but Badass Digest solidly confirms it in their report. One of the other villains that is mentioned is KGBeast, who is one of Lex Luthor's evil agents. The site explains:

"Yes! Lex Luthor has many agents making his dark agenda a reality, an agenda that includes keeping an eye on all metahumans, mainly a woman who walks the streets today but who is seen in pictures from the 1800s. A wonder woman, you might say. At any rate, one of Luthor's agents has a name, and that name is Anatoli Knyazev. Hardcore fans will recognize that as the name of the KGBeast, a Batman villain introduced in 1988's classic Ten Nights of the Beast storyline. In that story the Beast, an enhanced agent of the KGB, came to the US to kill ten targets, and he did it with extreme measures, including poisoning an entire 200 person dinner party to get one guy. He battled Batman to a standstill, and at one point when entangled in the Batrope the KGBeast cut off his own hand to escape. He of course put a cybernetic gun on the stump, as you do."

The report says that we won't see this version of KGBeast in the movie, but the character's name is in the script. It's more of an easter egg for all the fans that I guess could possibly lead into something more.

There's one other big easter egg that you will find in Batman v Superman. Apparently, the Joker already exists in the cinematic universe that they've set up and Superman knows about him. Unfortunately, we wont see him in the movie either, but who knows where it will lead.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how all of these upcoming movies tie together.

Stephen Colbert Analyzes Lightsaber in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Stephen Colbert returned to The Colbert Report last night from a weeklong vacation, and of course he had to include a segment breaking down the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The segment is hilarious. During it he talks about the new lightsaber, which is being referred to as the crossguard lightsaber. He explains that the saber is practical and why it makes sense. All of this makes me love Colbert even more. Enjoy!

SUICIDE SQUAD Cast Officially Locked Down!

It looks like everyone of those casting rumors surrounding director David Ayer's Suicide Squad was true. Variety is reporting that the DC Entertainment film production has locked down Jared Leto, Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevingne. This is an incredibly impressive cast for the super villain movie.

The movie is based on the DC Comic, the story of which "centers on the team of super villains who are given a chance at redemption by the government. The catch: Their mission will probably kill them all."

Here's the list of actors and the characters that they will be playing in the movie:

Jared Leto – The Joker

Will Smith – Deadshot

Tom Hardy – Rick Flagg

Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn

Jai Courtney – Boomerang

Cara Delevinge – Enchantress

According to the report, Jesse Eisenberg is still in talks to play Lex Luthor in the movie. He will make his first appearance as this character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The filmmakers are still looking to cast someone in the role of Amanda Waller, the character who oversees the team. The list of actresses currently being looking at include Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey is WB’s first choice for the part.

Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman said in a statement,

“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

Apparently the studio has always likened this project as the Oceans Eleven of comic book movies, and they were really hoping to bring together an A-list ensemble cast. Well, they succeeded, and I couldn't be more stoked to see this movie.

The movie hits theaters on August 5th, 2016,

Homer Simpson Sings "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift

The team at Crumbles have used their app to create an edit of Homer Simpson singing "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. If you haven't played with the Crumble app before, it's a fun time waster. You can toggle between Homer Simpson or other TV and movie characters. Using a simple dialog box, which pulls from their library of clips, you can make them say almost anything. This fun mashup is a great example of what is possible with the Crumbles app. Swift's "Shake It Off" is so damn catchy.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Gives Update on SANDMAN

It's been a year since it was reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would star in and direct a big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic book. We've heard a few bits of information over the past year, but there has been no big news on the development of the project. During a recent Reddit AMA, the actor offered an update saying,

“Been doing a lot of work with David Goyer and Jack Thorne working on the screenplay. We’ve been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin [sic] rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he’s the one I want to please most.”

In a separate interview with Deadline, writer David Goyer revealed that the first draft of the screenplay had already been turned in to Warner Bros. He went on to say,

“I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras, but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team. We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we’re moving forward, knock on wood.”

That's great news! I hope that the studio ends up greenlighting the project. Out of all of the films that DC Entertainment and WB have been developing, the ones that I am most excited for are Sandman, Dark Universe, and Suicide Squad, because they are all great properties with extremely talented people attached to bring them to life. It's also really good to know that Gaiman has been heavily involved with the project.

Short About A Cyborg Who Can Interact with (and Steal from) the Past

In this sci-fi time travel short called “Time Trap,” a cyborg space traveller crash lands on a barren, post-apocalyptic Earth, where he must use a “Portable Time Bubble Generator” to steal resources from the past to repair his ship. We’re all fascinated by the possibility of traveling through time, and this short features a fun and unique approach that skips the usual tropes and explores the idea of reaching into small pockets of the past to obtain necessary objects, rather than traveling to the past to alter the present/future.

The short was written and directed by Michael Shanks, whose VFX work you should be familiar with if you're one of the millions of people who watched the George Lucas Special Edition Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer spoof. This original effort of his oozes a retro vibe and successfully mines laughs with virtually no dialogue. What’s that, you say? “Shut up. Shut up. You had me at time travel.” That’s what I thought.

IKEA Style Manual for Lightsaber Extension Kit by Doaly

If you haven’t seen the message Stephen Colbert gave last night to all the haters out there claiming the bladed hilt lightsaber featured in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser is impractical, you need to watch that now. What’s more interesting, though, is that his explanation of how the lightsaber functions pretty much aligns with this piece of art that was released the day after the trailer. The art was created by Doaly, and it parodies IKEA’s dummy proof instructions — I usually toss the manual out and just wing it, ya know? Like a man.

We’ve long been a fan of Doaly and his work with the Poster Posse. His IKEA send-up is much different than the colorful, highly detailed work we’re used to seeing from him, but he had a funny concept and nailed the execution, from the Swedish umlaut to the hairless, naked guy with no genitals. There are only a couple things missing: the allen wrench and the bags of frozen meatballs I shove onto my cart right before I hop in line.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS — Most Watched Trailer of All Time (For Now)

0
0

It seems like the release of the first trailer for a movie is nearly a cultural event unto itself. Our site and many others pore over ever frame and study every detail for clues. This information is shared and analyzed in hours.

Because of the increasingly connected world these trailer releases are now a world wide event, which means now more than ever there are more people watching and downloading trailers than at any point in human history.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron broke a lot of records with its 50.6 million plays and downloads in 5 days. Jurassic World topped that with 53 million. But the new king of plays and downloads is Star Wars: The Force Awakens with 58.2 million. The Force Awakens also holds the record for quickest to 40 million, reaching that number in less than 72 hours.

Odds are these records will be shattered again and again as more of the world gets connected to the internet and becomes addicted to movies just like the USA.

AGENT CARTER Will Have a 2-Hour Extended Premiere

Marvel and ABC are so excited about their new Agent Carter series that they’ve changed the one-hour premiere to a two-hour event. The series was originally slated to be an eight-episode series, but it will now only have seven episodes, which includes the two-hour premiere. They obviously couldn't wait to show you what happens in episode two. I like everything that I’ve seen from this series so far, and it’s become one of my most anticipated new series. I hope it lives up to fan expectations.

It’s 1946 and peace has dealt Agent Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy finds herself stuck doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field, putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys. But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers – a.k.a. Captain America. When old acquaintance Howard Stark finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy — the only person he can trust — to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis, to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for selling these weapons of mass destruction. If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse.

The series stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Chad Michael Murray as SSR Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as SSR Agent Daniel Sousa, James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Shea Whigham as SSR Chief Roger Dooley, and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark,

It’s set to premiere January 6th, 2015 on ABC.

GT reader and artist Gary jamroz-palma sent us this awesome illustration he made featuring  the Sith Lord that was teased in the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Like the rest of us, the artist is incredibly excited for this movie, and this is the caption that came along with the art:

“Just my little tribute to the teaser for the STAR WARS EP VII. Loooove the new sith... yes, even the lightsaber... a problem with that? I DONT CARE!!! All I can do is guess on what is under the hood!”

Christian Bale Will Never Work with McG Again

0
0

After starring in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, I thought it was weird that Christian Bale went off to play John Connor in Terminator: Salvation, which was directed by McG (Charlie’s Angeles). It didn’t seem like the right kind of match-up. Apparently, Bale didn’t have the best experience working with the director, and in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the actor talks about why he initially took the role. He also says he’ll never work with McG again. Here’s how this part of the conversation went down in the interview:

WSJ: I read that when you first sat down with the director of that film, McG, you told him that nothing you’d seen in his filmography suggested that he had what it takes to do that movie.
CHRISTIAN BALE: Right.
WSJ: That’s brutal. Directors have egos.
CHRISTIAN BALE: Ah, yes. Yeah. But he goes, “Give me a chance. Everyone needs to evolve, and I need to turn over a new leaf. And please, you must’ve been in this position before yourself, when someone has taken a leap of faith on you,”— which I have—“please do that for me now; I promise you, I’m ready for it.”
WSJ: So what do you think, having given him a chance?
CHRISTIAN BALE: (Pause) There’s a lot of room for many approaches and many characters within the film industry. I won’t be working with him again, but I wish him very well. Okay?

Okay! As you may recall, this is the movie in which Bale had a major meltdown on the set. One thing McG seems to be good at is talking people into things and getting them excited. Unfortunately, he’s never really done anything to get crazy excited about. I think we all learned a lot about McG after Terminator: Salvation

Video Tribute to the Projects of J.J. Abrams

I’m not sure why the creator of this video gave it the title, “(OFFICIAL TRAILER) Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” because clearly it isn’t. This is a video tribute to J.J. Abrams and all of the projects he has worked on in both TV and film. It’s hard to believe that one of Abrams' first big, successful projects was Felicity. Who would have thought that he would be the guy who would bring both Star Trek and Star Wars to the big screen? Turns out he is extremely talented, and it’s been a pleasure watching his movies. The guy never fails to entertain me in terms of movies. Of course, the video leads up to the teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is a movie I really hope blows our geek minds!

We have the first trailer for Bruce Willis' upcoming sci-fi action thriller, Vice, for you to check out. Willis plays the head of a resort where people can use artificial inhabitants to live out their darkest fantasies. Things get out of hand when one of the robots decides not to take it anymore. It looks like it could be a cool flick — I definitely like what I see in the trailer. The film also stars Thomas Jane, Ambyr Childers, Johnathon Schaech, Bryan Greenberg, Charlotte Kirk, and Tyler J. Olson. Here's the synopsis:

Julian Michaels (Willis) has designed the ultimate resort: VICE, where anything goes and the customers can play out their wildest fantasies with artificial inhabitants who look, think and feel like humans. When an artificial (Childers) becomes self-aware and escapes, she finds herself caught in the crossfire between Julian's mercenaries and a cop (Jane) who is hell-bent on shutting down Vice, and stopping the violence once and for all.

The film was directed by Brian A. Miller from a script that was written by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy PassmoreWe can also reveal that Lionsgate will release the R-rated film in theaters and On Demand on January 16th, 2015.
