There's Talk at HBO of a GAME OF THRONES Movie

It looks like there's a chance that a Game of Thrones movie could actually happen. George R.R. Martin first brought up the possibility in an interview in which he said,

"It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."

It looks like talks have actually been going on since that interview. Actor Charles Dance, who plays Tywin Lannister in the HBO series, recently did an interview with The Daily Beast in which he said,

There's talk of eventually trying to do a feature film, but I don't know which of the storylines. There's so much to cram into a film.

He doesn't go into any details, but when Martin talked about the potential film he said one of the possibilities could be based on Tales of Dunk and Egg, which is a series of three prequel stories that Martin wrote. They revolve around a group of characters that includes Ser Duncan the Tall, who lived in the the fantasy world of Westeros 90 years before the events depicted in A Song of Ice and Fire.

"They could be the basis for [a film]," Martin explained.  "I have written these three stories, and I have about a dozen more."

It would be amazing if HBO actually made a full on, big budget Game of Thrones feature film. I'm a huge fan of the series, and I'd love to see that happen.

Here's a fun movie supercut video from FoundItemClothing that shows us all of the wonderful computer hacking from the films of the 1990s. He calls it "A Whole New World," and it features very dated hacking scenes from films like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Johnny MnemonicOffice Space, The Matrix, and more. I sure did love '90s technology, but I don't miss it.

Movies sprinted to make the most of the potential wonders and horrors of cyberspace. For your entertainment and viewing pleasure, this supercut brings you the best of 90s computing in all its grandiose and cringeworthy glory.

Before George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney he was producing an animated feature film called Strange Magic. The movie is based on an original idea from Lucas, and it's a fairy tale musical that was inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The story follows a “colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.”

The movie was directed by Gary Rydstrom (Toy Story‘s Hawaiian Vacation), and today we have the first trailer for you to watch. This is definitely geared more towards kids, but it still looks like a lot of fun.

The movie features the voice talent of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein, Peter Stormare, and Meredith Anne Bull.

Strange Magic will open in theaters on January 23rd, 2015.

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel and YouTube sensation Freddie Wong battle it out over their ties in an action-packed short film called "Tie Fighters." It starts out with Kimmel insulting Wong's tie, they get in an argument, and it escalates into a full on fight sequence with their ties, and it's hilarious! This is a short that you definitely don't want to miss. It's got some pretty cool tie-fu going on... sorry, I couldn't help myself. Thanks to RocketJump for the video!

Disney and director Kenneth Branagh are retelling the classic tale of Cinderella. A couple days ago we posted the trailer, which gave us our first real look at the movie. Today we have 13 high resolution photos that seem pretty low on the CGI. The movie stars Lily James (Cinderella), Cate Blanchett (Lady Tremaine), Helena Bonham Carter (Fairy Godmother), Hayley Atwell (Cinderella's Mother),  Holliday Grainger (Anastasia), Sophie McShera (Drizella), and Richard Madden (Prince Charming).

20-fun-facts-about-masters-of-the-universe

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was one of my favorite toys and cartoons back in the 1980s, and a live-action movie was made in 1987 that I was lucky enough to have enjoyed as a kid. I freakin’ loved that flick! As a nine-year-old, I couldn’t have asked for anything more epic. Unfortunately, the older I got the more ridiculous and stupid this movie became. Regardless of the fact that it’s a poorly made adaptation, the kid in me still loves the hell out of it. For this week's Fun Facts list I decided to revisit the movie and list twenty things that you might not know about it. There's a lot of great stuff here that I previously didn't know about.

  • The actor who played Blade, Anthony De Longis, trained Dolph Lundgren to use a sword, and he choreograph the sword fight between He-Man and Blade as well as the climatic duel between He-Man and Skeletor. Skeletor was played by Frank Langella in the film, but during the final fight De Longis stepped into the role.
  • De Longis said that due to the 50-plus pound weight of his Blade suit, when he would remove his boots, he would have to pour out his sweat at the end of every day he was shooting the movie.
De Longismasterof the
  • Meg Foster, who played Evil-Lyn in the film, wore a costume that weighed 45 lbs. She apparently sustained bruises to her groin from the breastplate she wears throughout the shoot. The actress said that he breastplate restricted her movements a lot, which is why Evil-Lyn is never sitting during the film. Foster as also said that the discomfort from the costume helped her performance. The weight and design forced her to puff out her chest during every take, which generated the character's slinky posture.
  • A lot people thought that Foster wore contact lenses in the movie that gave her character the crazy cool, eerie look. She didn’t wear any, though, those are her actual eyes, and they have blue and grey irises with tiny pupils that give her that striking appearance.
20-fun-facts-about-masters-of-the-universe1
  • There are a lot of people that think the movie is an adaptation of the cartoon, when in reality the movie was based on the action figure line. Producer Ed Pressman was interested in the property and picked up the movie rights before the cartoon even aired.
  • Director Gary Goddard planned to dub over Lundgren's lines with another actor because of his limited acting experience and thick Swedish accent. He also wasn’t fluent in English at the time. But, with the film running behind schedule, Goddard decided to use Lundgren's natural voice instead.
  • The Throne Room set of Castle Grayskull was so big that the wall between two adjoining sound stages was knock down to make room for what was built. It was the biggest set built in Hollywood in over 40 years, at that time.
  • Cannon Films, the production company who made the film, originally planned to make a Spider-Man movie. Instead they decided to take the money and split it up for two other films; Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Masters of the Universe. The plan was to take the profits from both these movies and make a big-budget Spider-Man film. Unfortunately, both movies bombed at the box-office.
  • Lundgren refused to reprise his role as He-Man in a planned sequel when they offered it to him. He felt that playing the character was the “lowest point as an actor.” After he passed they gave the role to big wave surfer Laird Hamilton who had a small role in a movie called North Shore
  • The Masters of the Universe sequel was actually written, and director Albert Pyun proposed to producers that he would make the sequel and a Spider-Man film back to back at De Laurentiis' studio in Wilmington, North Carolina. “The sets for the two movies were built, the costumes were made, both films had been fully cast, and the budget for Masters of the Universe Part 2 was set at $4.5 million. The Mattel toy company also gave their approval to many of the characters that would appear in the sequel.” Pyun would also be using the same high school sets for Kevin and Julie later when he would direct Spider-Man. The films never got made though because Mattel and Marvel revoked the rights to both properties due to non-payment by Cannon Films, and they went out of business.
  • Apparently in the sequel, He-Man returned to Earth disguised as a professional quarterback, and Skeletor disguised himself as “an evil industrialist known as Aaron Dark who destroyed most of the world before He-Man can arrive on Earth to stop him.” The sequel ended with the Earth devastated as a post-nuclear world.
  • Even though Lundgren wasn’t happy with the part of He-Man, Langella said that playing Skeletor was one of his favorite roles. Apparently his young son was a huge fan and was running around the house shouting "By the power of Grayskull," so he took the role for him. The actor even wrote some of his own lines, one of them being, "Tell me about the loneliness of good, He-Man. Is it equal to the loneliness of evil?”.
  • Actor Tony Carroll's prosthetic teeth for Beast Man were so large that he was unable to close his mouth when wearing them. It made him drool so much that it filled his chin-piece full of saliva which weighed it down.
Tony Carroll2masters
  • Mattel mandated early in production that He-Man was not allowed to kill anyone on screen. To get around this they made Skeletor's troops into robot soldiers. They never point this fact out in the movie.
  • Mattel ran a contest where the winner would get a role in the film. With the movie being in a rush to be finished in time and already over budget, the director managed to squeeze in the contest winner. The winner was Richard Szponder, and he is featured as "Pigboy" who hands Skeletor his staff when he returns from Earth.
  • Goddard tried to dedicate the film to American comic book artist Jack Kirby in the closing credits. But the studio took the credit out.
  • "In the official Masters of the Universe comic book adaptation, an alternate ending is used that was written for the movie but never filmed. In the comic, after the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Man-At-Arms comes from the depths of Castle Grayskull carrying a NASA and US flag. The NASA flag has 'Starfinder 5. July 10, 2221' written on it, revealing that the first humans on Eternia were actually from a future American space mission."
  • In the early drafts of the script for the movie, The Snakemen and She-Ra were included. She-Ra’s costume was “a futuristic white and gold suit consisting of a gold crown, a long sleeved top that revealed She-Ra's cleavage and midriff, a gold chain-mail skirt and knee-high boots.” The characters had to be cut out, though, due to the film's limited budget.
  • For the miniature shots set on earth, the special effects team at Boss Film Studios reused several buildings left over from the productions of Blade Runner and Ghostbusters so they could fill out the background.
  • This is one of the first movies that included a post-credit sequence with Skeletor saying, "I'll Be Back!"

Here's the original trailer for the film:

THE HOBBIT Music Video for Billy Boyd's "The Last Goodbye"

I know most of you have probably already heard this song from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, but today we have the official music video for you to watch. The song was written and performed by Billy Boyd, who played Pippin in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Here what the actor had to say about writing the song in an interview with EW:

“After seeing the film, I went to my room and I started to put down some ideas, and along with Fran and Philippa, we started to sculpt the song we thought the movie needed. A lot of ideas took us to dead ends or we found the tone wasn’t just right. I think we discovered very quickly this wasn’t just a song to end The Battle of the Five Armies—it was a song to say goodbye to Middle-earth.”

He went on to say:

“The Lord of the Ringsfilms were such a special time for me in many ways—working with Pete, Fran and Philippa, being in New Zealand, being part of Professor Tolkien’s work or even just the incredible friends I made. And being asked to go back to that, to work in that wonderful fantasy world again and to be singing the song that says goodbye to Middle-earth for everyone involved and the fans who took this beautiful journey with us is truly a great, great honor.”

I absolutely love how the song came out, and this is a beautiful music video that features footage from the all of the films in the Middle Earth franchise. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes out on December 17th.

ALIEN Facehugger Dog Leash

I'm going to get this for my kids' dog whether they like it or not. This is a dog leash and harness that makes your pet look like it's being attacked by a facehugger from Alien. There's no way my kids would touch this thing, but I'd take the dog out for walks with it, which is something I never do.

Designed to fit a small to medium sized dog, 15-35 pounds. This leash connects with velcro around the neck and chest of the dog securing the Face Hugger to your pets back. The alien is made of foam and airbrush painted, the harness is a light weight but durable mesh. The leash is hidden within the tail of the alien and ends with a loops for easy walking.

So I guess if you own a big dog, you can save yourself $150, because that's how much it costs. If you're interested, you can order one over at Storenvy

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Rumors - Pirates and Info on Lupita Nyong’o's Character

Some more rumors have surfaced regarding Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The following news contain potential SPOILERS. It comes from Making Star Wars, who claim to know an awful lot about the movie. That have leaked a ton of news in the past, and they're back with some more. So let's get started.

First of all, lets start out with some pirates that seem to have a Mad Max look and feel to them and dwell in a place referred to as “Pirate’s Cove.” The site claims to have seen some concept art of six of these characters which may have been lifted from George Lucas' original Star Wars script which included what he called the "Legions of Lettow," which was the name of the entire Sith order. This group of people were Force-sensitive individuals who abandoned the teachings of the Jedi Order. The report says, "These guys look like they would drink your space rum and throw you out the airlock of your ship. They’re all pretty dirty and scruffy looking... They’re a dash Star Wars, a dash Mad Max, and pretty much rad all around." Here's one of the character descriptions they offered for the main pirate:

"There’s a main pirate that has many different designs. So we’ll just call him 'main pirate.' He looks like Robert Carlyle in a way, with a goatee and slightly long stringy hair. His under suit looks likes mummy wrappings, but they might be white foam, its hard to tell from the drawing. He has a chrome Stormtrooper’s bracers and gloves on his the gloves are fingerless. He has a blue coverall that goes over the wrappings, but just up to his chest. The groin area and stomach are exposed showing the wrappings. He has a belt on that is studded and a cup to project his important parts… it has a piece of cloth that drapes down from it. He has a red cape that is tattered and destroyed looking, more like a shawl in its frayed state. The cape is fastened to him with a rope he wears like a bandolier. He has a gun holster that appears to strap abound his leg, intersecting with his 'cup.' The design is very weird."

To read the rest of the character descriptions, click here. They include a piece of 1976 concept art that you can see directly below that apparently one of the characters named Montrose is based on.

Some information is then offered up about "Pirates Cove," which used to be some kind of smugglers base. In The Force Awakens, though, it was taken over by rebels, and they turned it into their base. The site offers a ton of details about the this base that you can read here, but they sum it up by saying,

"Pirate’s Cove captures the classic vibe of the rebel locations we’ve seen A New Hope and mixes them with the complexities and real-world lived in look of Echo Base from The Empire Strikes Back. I do believe the only pirate there is Han Solo, his partner Chewbacca, and their pirate ship, The Falcon."

Now for some information regarding the character that is being played by Lupita Nyong'o. It all ties in with what has been discussed above. There is a room on Pirate Cove that is designated as “Rose’s Room,” and Star Wars Underworld has confirmed that Lupita Nyong’o’s character is codenamed Rose. They go on to describe the room as also having a separate set outside of Pirate’s Cove due to the set design.

"The set for Rose’s room required the room to be raised for puppetry requirements. It appears as if they need a channel in the floor for the puppeteer to move freely around, much like they did with Yoda’s house in The Empire Strikes Back.

Some other sources who are close to the project have also suggested that Nyong'o will be doing motion capture work on the movie. The report goes on to talk about a female puppet, saying,

"What’s interesting is the female puppet has a lot of of concepts [sic] art suggesting she’s important, and there are details regarding body articulation. However, the face is not articulated at all. It’s basically a puppet and you can put your hand up into the head to make its head move and its body has the standard work you imagine for a clothed creature. For some time we have heard the alien sidekick character would be a physical  puppet with motion captured facial features. So it appears this little alien race is what Nyong'o is playing in the film.
"The ambiguity? There are two aliens. One is old and one is young. Both characters generally appear gender neutral in most of the concept art. The old character appears wise. One early iteration had the character crafting a crystal for (I presume) a lightsaber. The younger version appears to be related to that character and is younger and inquisitive. Just a wild guess, but it appears one is Lupita Nyong’o and one is Andy Serkis."

That would be cool! Apparently in early iterations of the film, John Boyega and Daisy Ridely’s characters enter some kind of cavern, and while there they meet a little waist high alien creature. That creature then takes the heroes to its elder, and after they meet, the little creature is with the heroes until the end of the film. Chances are Nyong'o is playing the younger one. You can read more about all of this here

The final thing I'll bring up is from Star Wars Underworld, and it is one of the lines that Han will apparently say to Chewie. That line is:

"Chewie, we're back home!"

This sounds like it will be a very happy moment in the film for our characters. That's all I've got for you now, but stay tuned because more Star Wars: The Force Awakens news is sure to surface.

Marvel's HOWARD THE DUCK Is Making a Comeback and Here's His New Look!

marvels-howard-the-duck-is-making-a-comeback-and-heres-his-new-look

Fans loved it when Howard the Duck made a surprise cameo in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. It was one of the best Marvel cameos ever, and it's awesome to know that the character actually exists in Marvel's cinematic universe. Apparently, all the love that Howard has been getting inspired Marvel to bring the character back to the comics with a new series.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Howard the Duck will return in comic book form this spring, and it comes from writer Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals) and artist Joe Quinones. According to Zdarsky, Howard is a pissed-off private investigator who is not very happy about being stuck on Earth. He goes on to talk about the character and explain what he's doing with him, saying,

"He's an everyman who happens to be a duck! He's angry, exasperated, and he's had it up to here with the world around him, but he's trapped here! Infinitely relatable!

"I love the contrast of Howard against both the normal world of us hairless apes and the weird worlds of Man-Things and Dr. Stranges and Spider-Mans. Cause he doesn't fit into either, really.

"I'm just going to continue exploring those contrasts, but my ultimate goal is to make it funny. Marvel has taken chances on funny books and injecting humor into superhero titles, so I want to make sure this is worth some chuckles here and there. God, I'm picturing the reviews now: 'Some chuckles here and there.' Shoot for the stars, Chip!"

Quinones adds,

"Not to give anything specific away, but there’s some fun sci-fi stuff coming up. (Howard is an alien, after all.) I’ve always been drawn (fowl joke—as in bad) to that, and have always enjoyed how Marvel handles all things cosmic."

Howard has always had weird, crazy adventures, especially with Hell Cow. This should be a fun comic, and who knows, if it's popular, maybe we'll see a Howard the Duck movie in Marvel's Phase 6?

Only People Who Have Seen INTERSTELLAR Can Decipher These Posters

$

Matthew McConaughey, Morse code, a book shelf, and a spaceship traveling through a spherical worm hole… What do those things have in common? Nothing, really. That is, unless, you’ve seen Interstellar, where all of those things are significant elements in Christopher and Jonathan Nolan’s spectacular sci-fi story. Artist Edgar Ascensão’s simple looking, mostly black and white posters inspired by the movie are deceivingly complex and layered with those important objects and imagery from the film. There are a few more things incorporated/hidden in the posters, but that would take us into heavy spoiler territory. Don't worry, I won't leave you hanging like the Nolans so expertly and joyfully do. I'll point them out below the bottom poster.

A couple other things Ascensão worked into the poster at the very top are the colored lines representing the fifth dimension, which Cooper (McConaughey) is able to navigate through in the film's climax. And the word "Stay" is spelled at out in Morse code underneath that, which is the future Cooper's desperate message to his past self. The robot character TARS is also camouflaged among the books on the third shelf.

In the poster directly above, the titles are made to look like the hour, minute, and second hands of the watch Cooper leaves Murph (Mackenzie Foy/Jessica Chastain), and that he encodes (again, via Morse) with his findings from traveling through the black hole. In Ascensão's words:

Based on the relationship of father and daughter.
More of a minimal concept, it's the connection between the space travel and Cooper's watch.

Thorin's Regal Armor in THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is less than a month away, and I eagerly await its 45 minute end battle sequence. The UK based Empire Magazine has released the cover for their January issue online. The cover features the 6' 2" Richard Armitage looking very short as Thorin. He's wearing "Regal Armour" (UK spelling of armor) that's gold, geometric, and 100% hardened dwarven badass.

Peter Jackson finally ends his 17 year long odyssey adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's works for the screen. Other than The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun (what's with the long titles?), which is already in post production, Jackson has not announced what he's doing next. I vote Star Wars: The Old Republic, but that's just my wishful thinking.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will be in theaters December 17th (USA).

Watch 24-min Making of Doc on Christopher Nolan's MEMENTO

Christopher Nolan's second film, Memento, is a hard movie to describe and sound sane. The events in Memento are shown backwards and forwards at the same time (sounds insane, right?). The Sundance Channel did a making of documentary called "Anatomy Of A Scene." It's 24 minutes long, and if you haven't seen the movie, stop and don't watch this video. It's jam-packed with spoilers.

Memento has a methodically created structure and narrative. The film is the best example of the Nolan brothers' writing skills and Christopher's editing prowess. With all the big budget films that Christopher Nolan has been creating over the last decade or so, I wonder if he can still tell a smaller story.

How Mark Ruffalo Hulked Out on a Preschooler

I went to elementary school with a girl whose dad was a member of the popular ‘80s band Devo. My schoolmates and I couldn’t help but ask her, all too often, if her dad still liked to “whip it, whip it good.” And that was about a decade and a half after the release of that song. I can’t imagine how mind-blowing it would have been as a kid to go to school with a girl whose father is a major part of the biggest film franchise in the world right now. A young boy who went to preschool with the daughter of Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers’ Bruce Banner/Hulk) was thrown into this situation. Ruffalo went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and related the story and explained what he did when the boy asked him if he could turn into the Hulk. Egged on by his own daughter, Ruffalo attempted to grant the child his request.

HBO Gives J.J. Abrams’ WESTWORLD an Official Series Order

HBO has given an official series order to J.J. Abrams’ new sci-fi series Westworld. The show is based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film, and it was adapted for the small screen by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy

The series has an incredible cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Miranda Otto, and Jeffrey Wright.

The story is set at an amusement park called Westworld, and it’s described as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”

Harris will play one of the central leads in the story known as The Man in Black, "the distillation of pure villainy into one man." Marsden is will play a character named Teddy Flood, "a mysterious new arrival to a small frontier town. Teddy quickly proves both his charm — and his talent with a revolver — while his pursuit of a local beauty launches him on a dark odyssey." Eddie Rouse has also joined the production and will play Kissy, "a laconic American-Indian who deals cards and contraband from the town saloon."

I loved the movie that this show is based on, and I have a feeling that this series is going to be even better.

Brad Anderson to Direct Action Thriller SHADOW RUN

Sony Pictures has hired Brad Anderson to direct a new action thriller called Shadow Run. I’m a big fan of Anderson’s past work, which includes The Machinist, Session 9, and Transsiberian. The guy is a talented filmmaker who is good with the characters and stories he tells. He has also worked on TV series such as The Wire, Fringe, Boardwalk Empire, and The Killing.

Shadow Run comes from a spec script by Joe Gazzam. The story begins when "a viral attack puts lives in danger, forcing a CIA agent to enact a secret prisoner exchange: Russia’s most notorious spy for the American scientist who can create a cure.”

Anderson recently helmed The Call, which starred Halle Berry, as well as last month’s Stonehearst Asylum, starring Kate Beckinsale. I’m looking forward to seeing how this new project of his pans out. I think Marvel needs to look at this guy for directing one of their upcoming films.

Disney Hires Peter Segal to Direct GOBLINS

Peter Segal is set to direct a new film being developed at Disney called Goblins. The project is based on a children’s book called Goblins! A Survival Guide and Fiasco in Four Parts, which was written by Ari Berk and illustrated by Brian Froud. Froud is a Hugo-winning artist who worked as Jim Henson’s conceptual designer on Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.

There’s no word on if the film will be fully animated, live-action, or a combination of both. Tom Astle and Matt Ember are writing the script, and it has the potential to be a great film. After all, who doesn’t like a bunch of crazy nasty goblins running around? Here’s a description of the book:

Anyone who brings home this book will be in big trouble. Renowned artist Brian Froud and scholar Ari Berk have conducted a thorough investigation into the goblin realm. (For the uninformed, goblins, a subspecies of faery, are those maleficent creatures that cause all manner of havoc in the human realm.) The fruit of their labor, however, turned out to be a rotten apple: the book is infected with goblins.

Now, thanks largely to Froud and Berk's continuing carelessness, the noxious, viscid, and largely nonsensical volume has been unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Among its pages are reproductions of the ancient, odoriferous Codex Goblinensis; a glossary of common goblins and their markings; and a gazetteer of goblin photographs taken with the arcane Goblin Camera.
