Disney Releases Footage from Kenneth Branagh's CINDERELLA

disney-releases-footage-from-kenneth-branaghs-cinderella

Up until this point the only thing that we've seen from this film was a revolving glass slipper in a teaser trailer. Disney is prepping to release a trailer for the film this coming Wednesday, and in anticipation of that they've released a brief new teaser that gives us our first look at some actual footage from the fairy tale movie. We still don't have much to go off of, but it looks like it's going to at least look great. Here's the synopsis released for the film:

The story of "Cinderella" follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella's father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella's hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and -- armed with a pumpkin and a few mice -- changes Cinderella's life forever.

The movie will be released in theater on March 13th, 2013. The kids are for sure going to love this. Mine currently have this trailer on a constant loop. I've really gotta stop showing them stuff.

Mom Draws Geeky Artwork on Her Children’s Lunch Bags Every Day

0

For about a year, Christy Kilgore has been decorating her children’s lunch bags with fun and often matching pieces of pop culture artwork. The Illinois mom, who has a background as an artist and graphic designer, has chronicled her work on her Instagram. Apparently she only uses normal colored pencils, sharpies, and Crayola markers, but the pieces have grown more detailed and elaborate over the months. And they don't just look good. There are some really humorous gags she put into some of them. The one thing I didn’t see on her feed, though, was pictures of the actual food that is going into the bags. I doubt a mom this crafty would just be throwing in a Lunchables after all the work she did on the bag. That would be funny/sad is these masterpieces were just the wrappers for some crappy hors d'oeuvres (Again, I highly doubt that is the case). Another thing I wonder about is whether or not the kids have to bring those bags home after school. Or perhaps they're like sand mandalas and sending them out in the hands of school-aged children is Kilgore's way of ritualistically destroying her own work. *Bows* I have so much to learn.

As expected, the full 8-page crossover comic for Attack on Titan and Avengers has been released online. The comic is called Attack on Avengers, and it turned out awesome! Now all they need to do is adapt it into an animated short film! Just so you know, the reading layout for the comic is set in the traditional Japanese right-to-left reading format. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of that before you started reading. Enjoy!

Mace Windu Getting His Own STAR WARS Movie!?

0
0

Lucasfilm is currently developing a few highly anticipated Star Wars projects. Outside of J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens, Rian Johnson is developing Episodes VIII and IX, and directors Josh Trank (Chronicle) and Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) each working on standalone films that have yet to be revealed. Lucasfilm also has a third standalone film in the works, but as of right now no director has been hired to develop it yet.

We’ve heard rumors and speculation of Yoda, Han Solo, and Boba Fett possibly getting their own movies. But now it looks like we can add Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu to the list. Now before you brush this off as just a rumor, it comes from a very interesting source.

Director A.J. Edwards recently did a Reddit AMA to promote his upcoming young Abraham Lincoln film The Better Angels. This is the only movie that he has directed, but it seems like he’s in talks to direct a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm. When asked if there was any truth to these rumors during the AMA, he responded with a couple very interesting comments. The first was, "Talking about it, not able to say a lot yet," and that was followed up with, "It will focus on Mace Windu."

That’s a pretty big reveal for someone that wasn’t supposed to talk about it! I’ve gotta say… that’s pretty surprising that he would let that kind of news just fly out like that. I have no idea if there is any truth to this or not, but why would he say something like that? Something seems a bit off about the whole thing, but that’s what he said.

If this is true, a movie about Mace Windu would definitely make for an interesting film, just not as interesting as some of the other characters that reside in the the Star Wars universe. If the studio was going to move forward with a movie like this, it would most definitely have to be a prequel since he was killed off by Palpatine in Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith. The question is, would they bring Jackson back to reprise his role, or would they go with someone younger?

Do you think it’s possible that Lucasfilm is actually looking to hire A.J. Edwards to direct a Mace Windu movie? Or do you think he was just messing around during the AMA? Would you even be interested in seeing a movie based on this character?

Tony Hawk Plays Around on Real Life Hoverboard

The hoverboard actually exists, people! The last time we saw Tony Hawk on a hoverboard it was faked, but this is the real deal. It was created by Hendo Hoverboard, who launched a Kickstarter campaign to make a real life hoverboard happen. The board uses four magnetic field inducing engines to levitate. The board only levitates about an inch off the ground, but you’ve got to start somewhere! The future of Back to the Future Part II is almost here! This is only the beginning. Who knows how far technology will go as they continue to develop it? What you see in the video will run you $10,000. I’ll just wait for the technology to get better and the price to go down. It’s fun watching Hawk mess around on it on metal halfpipe.

A new trailer has been released for the 3D animated feature film The Peanuts Movie. This movie looks like it's going to hit all the right spots for Charlie Brown and Snoopy fans. This is a lovable, charming trailer that focuses on Snoopy flying around on top of his doghouse on the hunt for the Red Baron.

In PEANUTS, a 3D, CGI animated comedic adventure, Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace! – embarks upon his greatest mission as he and his team take to the skies to pursue their arch-nemesis, while his best pal Charlie Brown begins his own epic quest back home.

The movie is coming from director Steve Martino (Ice Age: Continental Drift), and it looks like he may have made a classic Peanuts movie for a new era. It's set to be released on November 6th, 2015.

Artist Chris Middleton created this captivating piece of fan art for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. We’ve seen a lot of fan made posters for this movie over the last several months, but this is by far one of the best that I’ve seen. It’s such a very slick and polished looking design. I love the whole layout and the placement of the characters. You can check out some of the details of the illustration below.

Reilly) has a little wardrobe malfunction with his NOVA Corps costume. The clip is called “The Kyln Will Have to Do,” and you can check it out below. We posted another deleted scene from the movie last week featuring a confrontation between Nebula and Gamora. That scene is included in the video below as well, and it plays before the funny new clip with Rhomann Dey.

Peter Capalidi Will Return for DOCTOR WHO Season 9

Peter Capaldi is set to reprise his role as the twelfth Doctor in the ninth season of Doctor Who, but the Doctor’s companion, Jenna Coleman, has yet to sign up for another adventure. I’m still getting caught up on this last season, but I’ll admit… it hasn’t been my favorite. Capaldi hasn’t really won me over, and I’m really missing Matt Smith

The news was confirmed by showrunner and producer Stephen Moffat. Everyone involved with the show seems to be pretty happy with how the eighth season turned out. Danny Cohen, director of BBC Television, said in a statement,

"It's been an outstanding debut series for Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who and I'm very grateful to Peter, Steven Moffat and everyone involved.”

They are looking to keep the Doctor Who magic alive, and I really hope that they are able to make something a little better this next time around. Look, I love Doctor Who, but this last season just did’t do it for me, and I know I’m not the only fan to feel that way.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Movie Will be Scripted by John August

scary-stories-to-tell-in-the-dark-movie-will-be-scripted-by-john-august

Last year we leaned that the classic terrifying kids horror book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will be getting a big screen adaptation. CBS Films is developing the project, and they picked up a pitch from Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. They were originally attached to adapt the Alvin Schwartz books, but now they’ve hired John August to take on that challenge. August is the writer who brought us films such as Big Fish, Frankenweenie, and Go.

These were three of my favorite books when I was growing up. I even had the audio tapes that were scary as hell to listen to. You can listen to those here if you want. The books consist of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1981), More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1984) and Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones (1991). I especially enjoyed the the nightmarish illustrations by award-winning artist Stephen Gammell.

It was previously reported that the plan was to "adapt some of the Scary short stories into a screenplay about a group of outcast kids who stand up to their fears to save their town when nightmares come to life." That may not be what we see in the version August is writing, though. Deadline reports that he is going back to the source material for his take on the adaptation, so he’s most likely starting from scratch.

August is a talented screenwriter, and I’m sure he’ll come up with something cool. There’s still no director attached to the project, but you know what would be awesome? If Tim Burton directed it. August has already collaborated with him in the past, and this could give Burton the opportunity to make a really scary movie. I’ve always wanted to see Burton go all out on a horror film.

My idea would be to adapt them as an anthology film. They could pick a few different stories and have different writers and directors take on each one. This could be an incredibly fun franchise, like the V/H/S horror franchise, but better.

Thor Frog Diorama from Sideshow Collectibles

Sideshow Collectibles has released an amazing Thor Frog diorama that you can own for $99. This character is both awesome and hilarious, and it has such a ridiculous back story. You can read all about it here if you’re not familiar. I think it's great that Sideshow created and is releasing a diorama of the character. This is the product summary that came along with the photos:

He had the power of the God of Thunder, as well as his hammer. And e'er since, that frog, newly dubbed Throg, uses yon hammer to protect his clan and stands e'er vigilant against any who would threaten them!

Sideshow Collectibles is delighted to present the Thor Frog Diorama. Not to be confused with the time Loki turned Thor into a frog, Throg is Simon Walterson (a nod to creator, Walter Simonson), a former college athlete transformed into a frog named Puddlegulp by a wicked gypsy curse. Embodied with the powers of Thor, the unassuming amphibian would become the mighty Frog of Thunder, and a courageous member of the Pet Avengers! Six inches of pure awesome, the fully sculpted Thor Frog comes to life with vibrant colors and incredible detail, wielding his tiny version of the Thunder Gods hammer, Frogjolnir.

An off-the-wall hero from a humorous, fun-loving era of Thor comics, Marvel fans of all ages are certain to find the Thor Frog Diorama simply irresistible!

This would definitely make a great conversation piece for people who have no idea what this is all about.

Jon M. Chu to Direct 1990s Dance Movie CAN’T TOUCH THIS

0
0

Jon M. Chu, the director of the Step Up films and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, is set to develop a new movie project called Can’t Touch This. As most of you know, that is the name of a popular song written by M.C. Hammer. The film is a high school dance comedy that will be set in the 1990s. Having grown up as a teenager in the '90s, the thought of a dance movie called Can’t Touch This made me laugh. I’m glad to hear that it’s going to be a comedy because hard to imagine a movie with a title like that could be taken seriously, unless they tackle it like films such as Dazed and Confused or American Graffiti. Those both had a good balance of drama and comedy.

Chu is definitely the best man for the job. This seems to fit in with the kind of films he like to make. He most recently finished shooting the feature film adaptation of Jem and the Holograms

There’s no word on what the story will entail, but judging from the title it’s easy to guess what the vibe of the film will be. Chu teamed up with Happy Endings, The Goldbergs, and Community writers Annie Mebane and Steve Basilone to write the script.

I really want this to be a fun movie that brings out the nostalgia in those of us who grew up during this awesome era. An era that gave us big baggy pants, neon colors, the running man, the worm, Reebok Pumps, flannel shirts, M.C. Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Nirvana, and more.

Disney Developing a Huge TOY STORY Themed Hotel - Concept Art

disney-developing-a-huge-toy-story-themed-hotel-concept-art

Earlier this month we learned that Disney and Pixar we developing a Toy Story 4 film that will be released in 2017. It looks like Disney has a big reason to keep the Toy Story franchise alive, as they are currently planning to build a gigantic Toy Story themed hotel. Unfortunately for me and a lot of other fans out there, it's being built on the grounds at Shanghai Disneyland Resort, which is scheduled to open in 2016. I don't think I'll ever find myself in Shanghai, so this will most likely be a hotel I never visit, and that makes me sad.

The news comes from The Disney Insider Blog, who also offered a piece of concept art showing us how awesome the hotel is going to look.  As you can see, the exterior is based on the classic wallpaper from Andy's bedroom, and the classic Pixar ball is in the center of the entrance. There's not much more information other than the following:

"The Resort's Toy Story Hotel will transport guests to a world inspired by the toys from the Disney/Pixar series of Toy Story animated films."

Does this mean that the themes of the rooms could be based on the various toys in the film? I came across the news on /Film, and they offer up some fun speculation, saying, "Maybe you’ll feel like you’re in toy box. Maybe there will be a Sunnyside Daycare wing, Al’s Toy Barn to shop in, Woody’s Roundup, Buzz’s Star Command or even things themed to some of the short films, like Partysaurus Rex or Hawaiian Vacation."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but that would be so cool.

INSIDE OUT - "Say Hello to Sadness" Poster and Clip

0
0

Ever since I watched a sequence from the next Pixar movie Inside Out at D23 Expo, I've been following any news about it very closely. This is  a movie that is so perfect for animation and wouldn't work as well in any other medium.

Pixar's official synopsis for Inside Out:

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions — Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

We have a poster and clip that feature Sadness. This is the first up close look we've had for any emotions from the movie. Instead of being solid, they seem to be made up of clouds of dots. It's an interesting look, and I wonder how it fits into the whole aesthetic.

Inside Out opens in theaters of the mind June 19, 2015 (USA).

Spellbinding Art for A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS

The holiday season is fast approaching, and to prepare for Christmas, artist Nicolas Delort has created a magical illustration inspired by A Charlie Brown Christmas. Delort is the same artist who brought us the wicked cool art for It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. His latest endeavor turned out just as amazing. As I stare at this piece, I can't help but just feel complete and utter happiness. This is what he had to say about it:

"I wanted to do Great Pumpkin and this one as a diptych of sorts right from the start and as soon as the Great Pumpkin sketch was approved, I had the idea for Charlie Brown Christmas.

"Both share the “boy and his faith” theme but while Great Pumpkin is all about Linus’ optimism and hope, Charlie Brown Christmas is more about Charlie’s disappointment and resentment towards what the holiday has become…so I thought it’d be interested to make two illustrations that would work next to one another.

"The challenge on this one was that the image was to be more “luminous” (for lack of a better word) than Great Pumpkin and my style is usually pretty dark, so I had the idea to set the scene in the tree selling place and surround Charlie with garish electric lights."

These beautiful prints will only be available through Dark Hall Mansion’s official store. Each print will go on sale at a random time between 9:30am PST and 12pm PST on Tuesday, November 25th. The standard print is above and the variant is below.

The End of INTERSTELLAR Explained by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Neil deGrasse Tyson is an astrophysicist that you may know as the host of the amazing documentary series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. He watched Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and then did a video with Business Insider to explain what the ending of the film means, and if it's scientifically sound.

As much as I loved the movie, I'm not going to pretend that I scientifically understood what in the hell was happening at the end. I understood how it related to the story, but how it actually works was just way above my head. Thanks to Neil deGrasse Tyson though, I now kind of have a better understanding. Maybe I should just go back to college and become an astrophysicist, this kind of stuff is incredibly interesting to me. This is a really interesting watch, so I hope you check it out.

R2-D2 Was Almost a Main Character in THE LEGO MOVIE

0
0

I'm sure R2-D2 is going to once again play a pivotal role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but he almost was one of the main characters in The LEGO Movie. According to writer and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the droid was a key player in early drafts of the script.

In an interview with Yahoo, Miller said, “He was a Batman-level character.” As you know, Batman stole the show with his superhero awesomeness. Lord went on to say, “We figured we could get R2-D2 because his voice wasn’t a human being.”

For one reason or another, they weren't able to secure the rights to the character for the film. Miller explained that they wrote the movie without worrying about the rights of any of the characters. He said,

“A kid doesn’t have lawyers that won’t allow the toys to play together. Part of the appeal for us was that ‘Roger Rabbit’ thing that you can get these characters together that you couldn’t get in any other type of movie. Watching my own son play, he does put Batman on the Millennium Falcon and there’s no-one saying they take place in completely different times and galaxies.”

Batman jumping on board the Millennium Falcon was actually a scene that they were able to throw into the movie, which was so cool. It would have been cool to see R2-D2 join in on this adventure. It's a shame that it didn't happen.
