When it comes to fine geek fan art, James Hance is a badass. The artist has a talent of taking popular culture and turning it on its head. A couple of his latest pieces feature a Harry Potter and Star Wars mashup. He calls the first one “Scruffy Looking Troll Herders.” It features Ron Wealey (Rupert Grint) as a little Han Solo and Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) as his buddy Chewbacca. The other piece is called “With My Own Eyes,” and it shows Snape (Alan Rickman) as Darth Vader. You gotta love fan art!

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Shooting in IMAX

It has been confirmed that Zack Snyder is shooting Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice with IMAX cameras. Snyder's Man of Steel was released in IMAX theaters, but he didn't use IMAX cameras to shoot any of the scenes. This will be the first time that the director has shot a movie in the IMAX format.

I'm a big supporter of the IMAX format. I think it's the best format to watch a movie in. I think studios should ditch the whole 3D thing and focus their attention on IMAX.

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar was an amazing IMAX movie going experience, and it's so cool to see that Snyder is going to take Batman v Superman to that next epic level. I am really hoping that the story and script for this film will match how awesome it's going to look.

The movie stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and more. Warner Bros. will release the movie on March 25th, 2016.

Hilarious Aaron Sorkin Parody Video Sketch

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night. The show included an comedy sketch that hilariously parodies the writing style of Sorkin. Sorkin is the man behind such shows as The West Wing and The Newsroom. He also wrote films such as A Few Good Men, The Social Network, and the upcoming Steve Jobs movie. I've come across a lot of Sorkin parodies, but this is the best one that I've seen and it's crazy meta. For those of you who are familiar with Sorkin's work, you're going to love this. I also included the interview for you to watch below.

Original Ending Revealed for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Concept Art

Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a great film, and it payed homage to several aspects of the original film that it was inspired by. One of them included Dodge Landon (Tom Felton) yelling "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!" He also says, "It's a madhouse! A madhouse!" Thanks to Film Sketchr we have some concept art and information regarding an alternate ending to the film that would have offered another big nod to the original film.

The ending we saw to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes saw Will Rodman's (James Franco) emotional release of Caesar into the forest. It was followed by a precursor of where the story would go when Caesar and his pack looked out over the city of San Francisco. Then during the film's credits scene, we see Rodman's neighbor/airline pilot become the second case of what would eventually be named the Simian Flu. This kicks off a series of events that leads to the world that we saw in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

The original ending of the film envisioned an older, grizzled Caesar with war paint looking out  over a burning New York City in a destroyed Statue of Liberty. Below you can see the concept art created by concept artist Brian Cunningham, along with a description of what is going on.

"That image is from a proposed end sequence that was cut from Rise Of The Apes [sic]. In that shot Caesar is going up the staircase inside a large building.

There's no reason given as to why the scene was cut.

Gritty Pixar Style Captain America Character Design

Artist Andres Naranjo created this very cool, gritty piece of digital art of Captain America. The character design seems to have been inspired by the animation style of Pixar and the uniform used in Captain America: The First Avenger. It would be amazing to see Pixar make a Marvel movie one day, but that's probably never going to happen. Disney's Big Hero 6 might be the closest thing we ever see to an animated Marvel feature film, and Marvel didn't even attach their name to that one.

Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) will be making her second appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and we've got the clip. In it she is interrogating Whitehall (Reed Diamond). Agents is having a ratings upswing due to its much better second season. The first season was rushed into production and it showed. Thankfully, many of its errors have been fixed. I'm looking forward to the Agent Carter series. I hope it does well enough for a full season run in the future.

Are you in the mood to watch a short film that is insanely ridiculous?! Because that’s exactly what "Running the Gammatar" is. The film was written and directed by filmmaker Joe Kramer, and the story follows a “group of self-centered 20-somethings trying to navigate their way through relationships in a city that's under constant attack from a giant, fire-breathing Japanese monster.”

The short is just as great as it sounds, and if you like ludicrous things, then you’re going to enjoy "Running The Gammatar." Check it out!

Will Loki's Wife Be Introduced in THOR: RAGNAROK?

Before Marvel announced Thor: Ragnarok as the third Thor movie going into production, rumors that the Ragnarok storyline would be used had already surfaced. There was an interview with Movie Web about a year ago in which Tom Hiddleston talked about a potential Ragnarok story. He agreed that Thor's story would follow the apocalyptic plotline, saying, "There's obviously no script or anything. When I read the comic books, I thought it was an interesting way to go."

The script for the confirmed storyline is currently being written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle. Yost recently hinted at the fact that some main characters are probably going to be killed off. Now we've learned from Hiddleston that Loki's wife Sigyn could be a part of the story. Here's what he says:

"In the myth, he has a wife called Sigyn who protects him from a poison serpent who is dripping venom into his mouth. And she has a bowl over his mouth and of course the bowl keeps filling up and she has to empty it, and so his damnation could be interesting. I don't know...I mean, Loki is a character who's existed in popular consciousness for 3,000 years, so there are many, many iterations I could explore...It's just a question of whether audiences would want to see him again."

There's no confirmation that Sigyn will be involved in the story, but it would sure make for an interesting dynamic. Her importance to Norse mythology is that she was Loki's protective wife, who comforted him when he was in bondage for his misdeeds. Hiddleston explains above, how she saved him from the torture in which snake venom was being dripped into Loki's mouth. During that time Signy held a bowl over his mouth to spare him the violent convulsions the venom would cause. It's when she goes to empty the bowl that the snake venom drops into Loki's mouth throwing him into such extreme pain that he breaks free, and that's where Raganok, which is a world ending battle of the gods, begins.

Regardless of if Sigyn is involved with Thor: Ragnarok or not, it's still most likely going to end up being an amazing movie. The inclusion of the character would definitely add an interesting spark.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN — Fan Composite of Ben Affleck As Batman

Only two official images of Ben Affleck as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have been released. The one we've used the most is "sad Batman" and it's the image of choice for a lot of fan art. Self described graphic design hobbyist CAMW1N has taken a photo of the official movie cowl and a photo of Affleck to give us a new composite photo. The result is pretty cool considering the source material.

Jude Law in Talks to Join Guy Ritchie's KING ARTHUR

Jude Law is looking to star in director Guy Ritchie's feature film adaptation of the legendary King Arthur. The two have previously worked together on the Sherlock Holmes movies, so I guess it was only a matter of time before they worked together again.

THR reports that Law is in talks to play the main villain in the film, which could be an interesting role for him. The actor will join Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, who is starring in the film as King Arthur, and Astrid Berges-Frisbey, who will play Guinevere. There's no story details yet, but most of you should already be familiar with the story of King Arthur. I think this has potential to be a pretty really cool version of the character, especially with Ritchie's style of directing.

The script for the film was written by Joby Harold, and the film is the first of a planned film franchise. It's set to be released on July 22nd, 2016.

TARS was easily one of the best characters in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. He provided just the right amount of comic relief that the film needed. Vulture released a series of movie posters that shows us what it might be like if TARS was the star of some other films. The site says,

TARS is so great that he got us wondering what he might look like in other movies: dramas, rom-coms, comic-book movies — anything. Everything!

Some of the movies they created TARS posters for include Tars and the Real Girl, Tars Tarsface, The Fault in Our Tars, and The Tars Knight.

Daniel Brühl Cast as Villain in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Marvel has announced that Daniel Brühl, the star of such films as Rush and Inglourious Basterds, has been cast in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War.

He will join Chris Evans as Captain American and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in the film. These two heroes are going to be going head to head with each other, and the story that will be told is going to drastically change the Marvel cinematic universe. Chadwick Boseman will also be playing Black Panther in the film.

There's no information offered on what character the actor will play in the movie, but Deadline says he will be playing a villain. They just don't say who. Marvel President Kevin Feige had this to say in a statement:

“With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes."

The Joe and Anthony Russo-directed film will be released on May 6th, 2016. Anyone care to speculate on who the actor will be playing in the film?

FAST & FURIOUS - “At Least Three More” Coming Says Universal Pictures Chairman

$

0

We previously reported that the Fast & Furious franchise might be coming to a close after a couple films. During a THR executive roundtable, Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley helped clarify rumored news.

When asked directly about how many more Fast & Furious movies we might expect, Langley said,

"We think there’s at least three more."

Langley spoke about how the movies have become multi generational over the last 13 years. She then spoke about how Paul Walker had been such an integral part of the story and the movies' on and off screen family. She did interject that it is an ensemble cast full of many characters and there remains opportunities for new characters. She then revealed that they develop the movies in batches and that they are looking at what they can do in the next trilogy arc.

Langley on the future of Fast & Furious:

"I think it’s still a growing franchise. We’ll see what happens with Furious 7, obviously, but our box office has grown over the past three or four films and internationally, in particular. So we think that there’s more to mine there. But we’re of course very mindful about fatigue."

Langley does on to say there are opportunities in other mediums like a TV spin off and theme parks between the releases of the films.

Lots to chew on here. My most important take away is that Universal Pictures is going to keep making these movies and will rotate out actors ready to move on from the franchise. As long as the movies continue to be fun, I'll keep watching them. We've seen a changing ensemble cast work on ER, but I can't think of a film franchise other than James Bond in which this has happened.

BACK TO THE FUTURE Mondo Poster by Matt Taylor

This energetic Back to the Future poster by Matt Taylor “really cooks.” I don’t think you guys are ready for it yet, but your kids are gonna love it. There are several elements from different parts of the film that Taylor combined into one electrifying piece of art. They are all slightly conflicting, though. The Gibson ES-335 is from the 1955 dance where he’s was wearing a suit. And in the scene where Marty blows up the giant speaker in 1985, he’s playing his little Erlewine Chiquita guitar sans the red vest. Since this could all be explained away by some kind of future adventure screwing up the space-time continuum, I figure, what the hell? Have a sip of Pepsi Free and just go with it.

The 18” X 24” prints will first go on sale at the Mondo booth at Thought Bubble in Leeds, which opens November 15th, 2014. Whatever is left will go on sale after the convention. So if you’re looking to pick up this poster, stay tuned for an announcement on Mondo News.

DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special: Tense Clip with Santa Claus

I've never thought of the season finale of Doctor Who as the end cap of a season. To me, that's the Christmas special. In this clip from the upcoming Christmas special Santa Claus and his elves are talking to Clara when they get interrupted by the Doctor. Santa Claus and the Doctor share a tense exchange about tangerines. Yes, tangerines. Peter Capaldi is able to turn even a simple conversation into something full of tension.

In other Doctor Who news, Steven Moffat is still head writer and showrunner for season 9. With Moffat getting increasingly busy with other projects, it seems like the reins need to be handed over at some point. Some speculate that executive producer Brian Minchin could be the next to run Who. I love what Moffat has been able to do, but someone with new ideas could be a welcome change.

Watch Robots Fight with Katana Swords

This “sword fight” between two ABB brand industrial robots is a really amazing display of the precision of these machines. But it also serves as a reminder that the robot apocalypse is inevitable. When it happens, and it will happen, I’d much rather be taken out swiftly by a drone than by a couple of giant robot arms swinging Katana blades. Although, if I’ve learned anything from endlessly playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game on NES, it’s that all you have to do to defeat these one armed robots is jump behind them, or walk far enough that you can’t see them anymore. You’re welcome.

The video was taken at an exhibition where there must have been an insane amount of other cool stuff going on since you see a ton of people walking by and acting like there aren’t two robots. Fighting. With swords! They sheath and unsheathe their swords for cryin’ out loud. Unless there's a monkey juggling chainsaws over there, those people better march back over and start placing bets against Geekologie.

M. Night Shyamalan Movie THE VISIT Gets a Release Date

$

Yep, even after M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth disaster of a film bombed at the box office, the filmmaker went on to develop another movie called The Visit. He was originally developing it under the title Sundowning, but that has obviously changed.

The story focuses on "a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a week long trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day."

The original title of the film was apparently connected something called Sundowners Syndrome that is described as "a psychological phenomenon associated with increased confusion and restlessness in patients with some form of dementia. Symptoms also include agitation and mood swings."

It definitely sounds like it could be interesting, but I’m not going to hold my breath for anymore good films from Shyamalan. The movie stars Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers, Bad Words) and Ed Oxenbould (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day).

Shyamalan self-funded the indie film because I imagine no one would give him the money to do it. Universal Pictures picked up the distribution rights, though, and they are looking to release it in September of 2015.

Are there any Shyamalan fans out there that still exist? Raise your hand.

2 Trailers for the SyFy Miniseries ASCENSION

Space exploration in a hot topic in Hollywood right now. Especially with Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar currently out in theaters. The SyFy Channel has a miniseries coming out called Ascension, which tells the story of a group of people who leave earth in 1963 to find a new planet that can be populated with people. The series picks up fifty years later. It definitely seems like it has basically plot idea from Interstellar, only it’s not told on such a grand scale. We’ve got two trailers for the series, as well as a detailed press release that offers up some more details on the story and who stars in the series:

In 1963, the U.S. government launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, a mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.

Tricia Helfer – known and loved by million as Cylon Number Six in Battlestar Galactica- is part of the cast. She will play Viondra Denniger, a beautiful, manipulative and dangerous power broker on the Ascension.

Brian Van Holt – star of Cougar Town and The Bridge – will play William Denninger, captain of the ship and Viondra’s husband. A natural leader, William quickly rose through the ranks after playing a heroic role in a fire early in the spacecraft’s voyage. While his professional life is solid, William’s marriage to Viondra is anything but.

Andrea Roth, star of Rescue Me, will play Juliet Bryce, head doctor of the Ascension. Her relationship with her daughter, Nora (played by Jacqueline Byers) is difficult and strained. Nora, for her part, is a young woman under intense pressure to follow in the family’s footsteps of being a doctor despite her own dreams.

Rounding out the cast are Brandon P. Bell as First Officer Oren Gault, who was born on the lower decks of the ship to maintenance workers and must investigate the aforementioned murder; Tiffany Lonsdale as Chief Astronomer Emily Vanderhaus, the older sister of the murder victim; and PJ Boudousque (Pretty Little Liars) as one of the ship’s maintenance workers.

Ascension is created and written by Philip Levens (Smallville), who will also serve as Executive Producer and Showrunner.

The six hour miniseries debuts on December 15th. You can check out the trailers below.

LEGO GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Stop Motion Video - "Ronan's a Jerk"

Brotherhood Workshop has released a fun new LEGO stop motion sketch. This one was inspired by Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and it's called "Ronan's a Jerk." Here's a short description that came along with the video:

When the going gets rough, Ronan the Accuser orders his minions to commit suicide. If I were them, I would take issue with such an order. What kind of a boss tells you to kill yourself!?! What a jerk!

Yeah, that's not the kind of guy I would want to work for. One of the things I like about these LEGO shorts that Brotherhood Workshop creates, is that they have this childlike feel to the stories. They are the kind of stories that I would make up as a kid, and it's cool to see that brought to life.
