Salmon Shot at R2-D2 and J.J. Abrams from John Oliver’s Salmon Cannon

During the season finale of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, there was a hilarious segment that features a cannon that shoots salmon over dams. Oliver had his own salmon cannon built that fires salmon at completely random people. It features a ridiculous amount of fun celebrity cameos, which even includes R2-D2 and director J.J. Abrams from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s pretty awesome to see all of the people they were able to involve with the gag.

Caesar Will be an “Ape Moses” in Next PLANET OF THE APES Sequel

Matt ReevesDawn of the Planet of the Apes kicked ass this past summer! Not only was it a huge box office success, but it was one of the best movies of the year. Fox is currently trying to get Andy Serkis an Oscar nomination for his role as Caesar in the film, which I think he deserves. That would be very cool if it actually happened, but who knows if the Academy will allow it.

Reeves talked about the next sequel in the franchise during an interview with Comingsoon, and in it he described Caesar as an ape Moses, saying,

"The first one is sort of how [Caesar] goes from humble beginnings to becoming a revolutionary. In 'Dawn,' he really rose to occasion of becoming a leader in really challenging and difficult times. The notion of what we're after with the third is to sort of continue that trajectory and see how he becomes a seminal figure in ape history. He almost becomes sort of like an ape Moses. A mythic status... We're trying to play out those themes and continue to sort of explore it in this universe. Exploring human nature under the guise of apes."

Reeves then goes on to discuss Serkis' "outsider" take on Caesar, and its importance to the arc of the character as a whole. That aspect of him it will also carry over into the next movie.

"A thing I always found very moving was the concept of a character that was [an outsider]. Andy [Serkis] told me the way he played him and the thing that really moved me was that [Caesar] was really all about being an outsider. [He] said that [he] felt [he] was human until the one day it was made clear that that [he isn't]. [He] said it felt like heartbreak. Like, 'Oh, I'm not one of them!' Then he's thrown in with the apes, but he's not one of them either. He's an outsider to both. That was very moving to me because he's an outsider to both but connected to both. He is the unique character in this story to be able to connect between the human and the ape world."

After seeing what Reeves did with the last Planet of the Apes film, I’m looking forward to seeing what he has planned for the next installment. It’s currently set to be released on July 29th, 2016.

This Horror Thriller Short PLAYBACK Was Shot in a Single Take

I’ve got a horror thriller short film for you to check out today called "Playback." It was created by Nathan Crooker, who says that it's a throwback to the classic films of director John Carpenter. The movie was shot in a single take, and the story shows us what happens when someone interferes with another person's fate. This thing has a pretty intense build-up. It's a fun and simplistic thriller that I hope you enjoy.

Ilya Naishuller, the filmmaker who brought us the two POV action short films "Insane Office Escape" and "Insane Office Escape Part 2," is developing a feature length film called Hardcore. This movie will be the first ever action film entirely shot from the POV of the main character. The film stars Sharlto Copley (District 9, A-Team), and it’s being produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted).

They are currently trying to secure the funding they need to finish the movie at Indiegogo, and they’ve released some badass teaser footage that gives you an idea of what they are trying to accomplish. Here’s a description:

HARDCORE is a modern, action Sci-Fi story about HENRY, a newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator ESTELLE (Haley Bennet) from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN (Danila Kozlovsky), and his army of mercenaries.  Fighting alongside Henry is JIMMY (Sharlto Copley), who is Henry's only hope to make it through the day. Hardcore takes place over the course of one day, in Moscow, Russia and it's all shot in the same style as BAD MOTHERFUCKER to be released in cinemas worldwide.

The movie looks like it could be awesome! I’ve really enjoyed this guy's short films, and I always thought it would be great to see a feature film based on that POV idea. It looks like it’s coming, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

The video below starts out with the director talking about the film, and explains what they need the additional money for. It also features a message from Copley, who introduces the footage.

Spider-Man's Aunt May to Get Her Own Spin-Off Film?!

spider-mans-aunt-may-to-get-her-own-spin-off-film

Ok, these Spider-Man movie rumors are starting to get way out of hand. Sony Pictures really needs to lock some movie ideas down so fans know what in the hell is going on. Today we've learned from out friends at Latino-Review that Peter Parker's Aunt May could be getting her very own spin-off movie. It's not April Fools Day here, folks. This could actually be a real thing.

Over the past few months we've heard rumors of Spider-Man being rebooted again with Sinister Six, that Marvel is in negotiations with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, that Sony is making an all-female Spider-Man movie, and even talk of bringing Gwen back from the dead. So an Aunt May spin-off film seems to fit right in with this madness. LR reports,

"I was told by the Latino Review editorial brain-trust that this is completely true: Sony is pursuing an Aunt May movie."

They went on to explain what it would be about:

"Aunt May as a youth, before she was shouldered with the responsibility of raising Peter Parker. The target mood is some sort of espionage story in the vein of AMC’s Mad Men, which sounds like a way of saying 'classier Agent Carter; without name-dropping Marvel’s upcoming series."

Back in 2003, Marvel released a mini-series comic written by Mark Millar called "Trouble" that gave Spider-Man a new origin story. It included young teenage versions of Aunt May, Uncle Ben, and Richard and Mary Parker. Through a series of crazy events, May ends up getting pregnant by Richard and gives up little baby Peter to Mary who takes the secret of Peter’s real parents to her grave.

Needless to say the comic didn't do too well with fans, and Marvel ditched it and moved on like it never existed. I doubt that Sony will use this as their inspiration, but it was the only time that Marvel attempted to tell a story of a young Aunt May in the comic universe.

Maybe the studio will try and tie it in with the all-female Spider-Man movie they have been discussing. It just seems odd that they would want to make an Aunt May a solo film. I just don't see people flocking to see it. This is a beyond desperate idea for the studio. They are obviously having a really hard time trying to figure out what they want to do with Spider-Man. At this point, just give the rights back to Marvel already and stop this silly madness.

Honest Trailer for Disney's MALEFICENT

I didn't really care for Disney's Maleficent. I still think that the original animated film was a better and much darker story. I didn't like how they turned this terrifying, evil villain into a heroine, which is one of the main points that Screen Junkies make in their Honest Trailer for the film. This latest episode was pretty hilarious, and this is the caption that came along with it:

Relive this summer's dark, depressing fairy tale reboot 'Maleficent,' the story of an evil sorceress who can turn into a dragon - but isn't evil and doesn't turn into a dragon.

Lexi Alexander on Why She Won't Direct WONDER WOMAN

$

Just three weeks ago we learn that a Wonder Woman movie would be coming in 2017. A week later we learned that DC and Warner Bros. are looking for a female director to helm the movie. Then a week after that we learned that the Wonder Woman movie would be set in the 1920s. Late last week a rumor started to circulate that Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone) was attached to direct. Those rumors have since been squashed by Alexander and not in a nudge and wink way, but a full on explanation of why she is not doing it.

Alexander via Fast Company:

"Imagine the weight on my shoulders. How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director, imagine if it fails. And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the fucking weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No way."

Alexander later spoke to to Forbes on the assumption or inside knowledge that a director for Wonder Woman has been selected but hasn't been announced. Here's what Alexander said about another director already being picked:

"If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me. I don’t see at this point why anyone would say yes. There is huge pressure… If [a female director] does fail, then all of a sudden it’s ‘all women suck at directing.’"

A lot of readers are pulling for Kathryn Bigelow, which seems like the obvious choice. I think Angelina Jolie would be a more interesting pick. And why not make her Hippolyta too?

MEGA MAN Gritty Reboot Fan Film - BATTLE

Nothing says badass like a gritty version of Mega Man coming to save the day. Loot Crate has released an awesome fan made short film featuring a darker take on the classic video game character.

This month's theme for Loot Crate is BATTLE, and this is the short that was born from that theme. In it, Mega Man is a vigilante who responds to a hostage situation and kicks some ass along the way. After he's finished Mega Man is met with a challenge of another Capcom character.

The short is fun, and it had some really cool elements, but I do wish they would have shown some action-packed fight sequences. Maybe they couldn't pull it off with the costume. I still really dug the vibe, though! The short was directed by Nicolas Acosta.

The previously released films from Loot Crate include Dead Rising 3 and Firefly.

Marvel's THOR: RAGNAROK Will Probably Kill off Some Major Characters

The script for Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok is currently being written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle. Those of you who've read the comic know the story is pretty intense. According to a Tweet that Yost sent out recently, it doesn't sound like any of the characters that fill this world are safe. Here's what he said:

"Ragnarok is the end of all things. What are we supposed to do, let people live?!"

I guess not! It's safe to assume that there are going to be some game changing deaths in the movie. I previously explained the comic book story arc when the storyline for the film was first rumored.

Ragnarok is an apocalypse of sorts that represents the end of Asgard. It is an apocalyptic-battle that the Realm of Asgard has experienced over and over and over again. Ragnarok is a cycle of death and rebirth. It comes in cycles, randomly killing gods and restoring new gods with no knowledge of what took place. This is happening in an effort to sustain Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, which are celestial beings that are the gods of gods. They need this cycle to continue in order to survive. Thor is eventually made aware of this cycle and it pisses him off, because it robs his people of their glory and memory. Thor vows to restore his people's glory by ending the cycle. This will require Thor to form an alliance with his arch-nemesis Surtur. You can read more details about the story here.

In Norse Mythology and in the Marvel Comics, there are fallen warriors called the Einherjar, who spend their death feasting and continually fighting. They are waiting for the day of the Ragnarok where they can fight for Asgard once again.

Who knows what parts from the comic book will make it into the movie? But I'm sure that there will be some adjustments to fit the Marvel cinematic universe. With Loki sitting on the throne of Asgard and imprisoning or possibly murdering his father, Odin, I can see the Ragnarok storyline involving Loki allowing an epic invasion through the Bifrost, which would cause a massive battle in Asgard. That's just me speculating, but Asgard will see war and people will die.

Lionsgate has released another fantastic new trailer for their upcoming Johnny Depp movie Mortdecai. I think this movie looks hilarious, and Depp seems to give a very fun and crazy performance.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British MI5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Mortdecai was directed by David Koepp, and it also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany. The movie hits theaters February 6th, 2015.

Space Exploration Movie Mashup - “Reach For the Stars”

"Reach for the Stars" is a supercut of space exploration films that is cut to the trailer of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. The video was created by Movieclips, and some of the movies included in it are 2001: A Space Odyssey, Apollo 13, The Right Stuff, several Star Trek films, and even George Méliès classic 1902 feature, A Trip to the Moon. I also included the Interstellar trailer that the video was cut to so that you could compare if you wanted.

I’m a huge fan of this type of movie, as I’ve always been fascinated by space exploration and astronomy. Interstellar is easily one of my favorites. It’s strange for me to see so many mixed reviews for it, but I guess some people just couldn’t handle the greatness of it.

The first TV spot has been released for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which means the marketing campaign for this film is starting its final stretch, and by the time the movie hits theaters we will have seen a ton of TV spots and clips from the highly anticipated fantasy film. I've also included a new poster from the movie featuring Smaug. This movie is going to be absolutely incredible! I’ve been waiting for this for years, and It’s finally almost here.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo's frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The defining chapter of this trilogy is set to be released on December 17th!

This hilarious diorama of Hulk screwing up cutting Thor’s hair was created by Edy Hardjo, who also took the photo of it. I had a good laugh when I saw this image. It would be so funny if Marvel threw in a post-credit scene where this happens.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on Blu-ray and DVD later this month, and in anticipation, director James Gunn has released a couple of special features that will be included with it. We have a feature that focuses on the awesome opening sequence with Peter Quill dancing around a strange planet. The other one gives us a sneak peek at some other special features, and it starts off with an 8-Bit style game called "Galactic Adventurer." Both of them include some director commentary and also offer up some cool behind-the-scenes footage.

I think the 8-Bit game is used as a framing device for featurette material on the Blu-ray/DVD, but I hope that it’s playable! The movie will be available to own on December 9th.

The gang over at CineFix has released a great video breakdown of what they feel are the top ten best movie chase scenes of all time. I think they did a pretty great job putting this list together, and I agree with every scene they included in the list.

A few years ago we did out own list of 6 Badass Motorcycle chase scenes that you can check out here. Another list that I did that kind of relates to this is the 10 Most Badass Cars in Film, which you can check out here.

Here’s the caption that came along with the video:

A good chase scene gets the heart pumping and the adrenaline flowing. There’s no shortage of great chase scenes in movie history, and no shortage of variety either. Here are our Top 10 across the board.

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for director Shawn Levy's Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. I've never really been a fan of this franchise, but the kids love it, so I'm sure that anyone with children, like me, will be dragged to this movie. There are a couple of amusing moments in this latest trailer for the silly-looking film, though.

Get ready for the wildest and most adventure-filled "Night at the Museum" ever as Larry (Ben Stiller) spans the globe, uniting favorite and new characters while embarking on an epic quest to save the magic before it is gone forever.

The movie also stars the late Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Dan Stevens, Rebel Wilson, and Ben Kingsley. It's set to open in theaters on Christmas.

Rumors Regarding Lex Luthor's Villainous Scheme in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

rumors-regarding-lex-luthors-villainous-scheme-in-batman-v-superman

Some additional plot information has leaked out online regarding Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now before I get into it, there's some speculation here that has not been confirmed. There is also stuff that some of you might consider to be SPOILERS, so tread carefully.

First, Lex Luthor's (Jesse Eisenberg) villainous scheme in the story might be bigger than we thought. An extra who has been on the set of the film offers up some information on two funerals in the movie. One is for the President of the United States, and the other is a flashback of Bruce Wayne's parents funeral.

The President is apparently assassinated by someone, and comic book readers speculate that this could be a plan set into motion by Luthor to clear his way for presidential candidacy. It wouldn't really be a surprising plot device because Luthor briefly served as President in the DC Comic universe. It's also something that could lead into the Justice League movies since his aim was to take them down.

When it comes to the Wayne funeral, the extra said via Tech Times:

The first scene we filmed was with Jeremy Irons [who plays Alfred.] It was out in a field with young Bruce Wayne. A flashback to the Wayne funeral. The small set was really cool with the hearse vehicles sporting Gotham license plates.

One of the other bits of information that has come out includes a photo from the set (via Movie Pilot) that hints at another character joining the movie. The photo is of a trailer door with a sign that reads "Kahina Double." If this photo is legit, it means that Kahina the Seer will be appearing in the film.

The character is a member of the Others, who are hunting down Aquaman's rival, Black Manta. So there's a chance that Kahina's inclusion in Batman v Superman is setting up something for the Aquaman movie. One of the rumors is that Jena Malone is actually playing Kahina, not Robin as previously rumored
