Watch This Ingenious Marty McFly Hoverboard Costume in Action

0
0

Here’s a simple yet totally genius costume of Back to the Future's Marty McFly on a hoverboard that was created by Geekologie reader Ryan Leer. He did a really amazing job with the fake legs, but as GeekTyrant editor Free Reyes pointed out, wearing gold toed socks definitely doesn’t help the illusion. If only there were some machine that would allow him to go back in time and buy solid black socks. If only! Also, while we're nitpicking little details on this awesome costume we all wish we thought of, I don't believe Marty wears that outfit from the first movie when riding the hoverboard in the sequels. Let's not even get into why there is a dart board on the floor. (I feel like I'm writing for a CinemaSins video now. I'm going to take a shower and try to scrub off the hate.)

It may not be an actual hoverboard, but it’s definitely much cheaper than riding a real magnetic hoverboard or arranging an elaborate, albeit obvious, hoax with celebrities.

Michael Shannon as Elvis and Kevin Spacey as Nixon in New Movie

So here's a crazy-sounding film project with an amazing cast for us to keep our eye on. The movie is called Elvis & Nixon, and Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) has been cast as Elvis Presley, and Kevin Spacey (Superman Returns) will be playing President Richard Nixon.

This is some incredibly interesting casting, and just that alone is enough to get me excited about this film project. The movie is based on the fascinating true story about how Elvis's urgent request of Nixon. Here's the synopsis:

Two men at the height of their powers, conscious they could not stay on top forever, both ripped with fear of the inevitable, sharing one famous private moment in the Oval office.  ELVIS & NIXON recounts the morning of December 21st 1970, when the King of Rock’ n Roll (Michael Shannon) showed up on the White House lawn to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey).  He had a very urgent request: to be sworn in as an undercover Federal Agent at large. This intimate moment in the Oval office between two men at the height of their powers has never been told.

The movie is set to be directed by directed by Liza Johnson from a screenplay written by Cary Elwes and Hanala and Joey Sagal. Alex Walton, of the Bloom production company, said in a statement,

“It’s almost hard to fathom this story which evolved in the oval office between these two extraordinary men. It’s almost too good to be true.”

Producer Cassian Elwes added,

“After the enormous success of The Butler I have a deep affection for films set in the White House as does the public. To work with Shannon and Spacey on this movie at the height of their careers is a dream come true.”

This is a story I'm definitely interested in knowing more about, and it should make for a great intimate movie about these two larger than life historical figures.

An artist who goes by the name Boomslank created this spectacularly epic anime-style art inspired by Gundam Unicorn. This Gundam robot design is so cool looking and the detail and scope of it is incredible. This is the what the artist had to say about his work:

I was very influenced by the anime movie Gundam Unicorn, which probably ranks as one of the best things I have ever seen ever *__*.

Sometimes I fantasize about how quickly our differences would vanish if faced with a formidable foe from outside the earth sphere, as we band together and place our faith in those most qualified to carry our hope.

Nathan Fillion Shares His Feelings About the Zombie Apocalypse

Nathan Fillion was recently a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and during the interview the disscussion moved into the direction of the zombie apocalypse. Fillion reveals that he's very into zombie apocalypse preparedness, and then he hilariously goes on to share his feelings on the matter. He also says that his weapon of choice would be a baseball bat, and suggests that a samurai sword might not be the right weapon for him as he could accidentally cut his balls off with it. I'll tell you what, if the world was ever overrun with zombies, I would want to be in Fillion's group of survivors. Castle fans may remember that the actor has already dealt with zombies in the season 4 episode “Undead Again." This was a really great conversation so I hope you Fillion fans enjoy it!

Fantastic Sneak Peek at SOCK MONKEY Feature film

fantastic-sneak-peek-at-sock-monkey-feature-film

With everything else getting a feature film adaptation these days, it only makes sense that the classic Sock Monkey would join in on the action! Animator Matt Danner and writer Tony Millionaire have teamed up to to bring Sock Monkey to the big screen. Millionaire is the talented guy behind the current Sock Monkey stories.

The film will be based on an upcoming storybook they made called Sock Monkey: Into The Deep Woods, which follows a stuffed hero named Uncle Gabby "as he and his doll pals venture across sea, land, and air to save their human, Ann-Louise, whom they fear has been kidnapped by a vicious monster." To show off the cinematic potential of the character, Danner wrote a script for the feature and also produced a “sneak peek” teaser clip that you can watch below. They used a hybrid of CG and live-action “digi-nette puppetry” to bring the magical story to life.

The proof of concept footage that you'll watch below is pretty awesome. I love the dark and wondrous tone that it has. My initial reaction to this news was "oh brother, not another crappy CG animated live action hybrid film," but after watching the video, I'm actually excited about it. Here's a description of the footage:

Inspired by Tony Millionaire’s Sock Monkey books, Uncle Gabby springs to life in an old Victorian house to watch a sunset through the Great Glass Doorknob.

After you watch the video, let us know what you think about Sock Monkey coming to the big screen. Thanks to Deadline.

3D Cake of a Half-Dissected Ralph Wiggum From THE SIMPSONS

3d-cake-of-a-half-dissected-ralph-wiggum-from-the-simpsons

This Simpsons-inspired 3D cake of a half-dissected Ralph Wiggum is absolutely incredible. When I first saw it I was like, "Wait… what? That's a cake!?" because as you can see, it doesn't look like it could be. The design and craftsmanship of this thing is amazing.

It was created by British Columbia-based designer Kylie Mangles of Freshly Squeez’d. It was built for an online competition for Threadcakes, which is where people make cakes based on Threadless T-shirt designs. The original T-shirt design of Wiggum came from artist Erick Flores. Here's what Mangles has to say about her cake:

I really wanted to pick a design that would be challenging and make me try some new things. Well Ralph sure delivered on that. I have never made a cake with so many different colours of fondant or floating ribs before.

I started a few weeks before I was going to bake making all the modeling paste bones. I wanted to make them far enough ahead of time so they could dry properly and be able to hold up under the weight of his muscles and other body parts. I used as few tooth picks as possible but did use a few to hold the ribs together and onto the body. (read more)

This is one of the most impressive and creative cake designs I think I've seen.

Channing Tatum Up for Tarantino's HATEFUL EIGHT

0
0

I remember back in the day when Channing Tatum first started his acting career, I bashed him as an actor all the time. I couldn't understand why he kept getting cast in movies. Now I'm a fan! It's crazy how the world works, but the guy has really become a talented actor who makes good movies that are worth watching.

Now Quentin Tarantino is looking to cast him in a major role in his upcoming western epic The Hateful Eight, and I hope he gets it. I could easily see Tatum in a Tarantino film, and it will be interesting to see what kind of character that the director has in store for him.

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

The film starts shooting early next year, and if cast, Tatum would join Samuel L Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell, and Tim Roth. Other names that have been mentioned as being involved include Jennifer Lawrence and Viggo Mortensen, but there has been no confirmation of that.

What do you think of Tatum possibly saddling up for a Tarantino movie?

Here's an interesting, informative infographic that breaks down the worth of a wide range of 1980's toys, video games and gadgets which are now selling online for serious money. It's called "1980s Cash In The Attic," and there are quite a few things featured on it that I had when I was kid. Boy oh boy, do I wish I had these toys now!

Some of the toys I owned that are on this list included Lazor Light Skeletor, A-Team Van, Transformers Optimus Prime, Transformers Magatron, Transformers Sky Lynx, Transformers Hot Rod, He-Man BattleCat, TMNT Michelango, G.I Joe Hit and Run Parachute, and the Original GameBoy. It's crazy that I don't have any of these things anymore. The one thing on the list that I do still have is The Amazing Spider-Man #300.

Ever wondered how much all your old toys, comics and gadgets from the 80s are worth? You could have a lot of cash just sitting in boxes in your attic. In this infographic we show you what some gadgets and toys from tester year are being sold for today!

Look over the infographic for yourself and let me know if you had any of these toys and if you still have any packed away in a box.

More Luke Skywalker Character Info on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

more-luke-skywalker-character-info-for-star-wars-episode-vii

Before we begin, I want to throw out a SPOILER warning, but I will tell you that in this article I'm not going to post the big bad twist ending that has been making the rounds. There is new information that has surfaced on that, though, if you want to possibly ruin the ending of the movie for yourself. But like I said, I'm not going to post that here.

What I do want to talk about is a little bit of new information revealed about the character Luke Skywalker, and his role in the story that Star Wars: Episode VII will tell. The news comes from Making Star Wars, who explain that over the years Luke has become the most powerful Jedi ever to exist. Apparently, he's so powerful that he’s scared of what he is capable of. It's that power and the power of the dark side that forces him to go into hiding. He hasn’t been captured by anyone, but he will play a major role in the story.

This is actually one of my favorite things that I've heard about the film. I love that fact that Luke could be the most powerful Jedi ever, and it will be awesome to see how he displays that power. If you want to dive in and engulf yourself in major spoilers, click on the link above. To catch up on all of our previous Star Wars: Episode VII news, click here

As a side note, it's been confirmed that the teaser trailer for the film is completed and ready to go. That news comes from Jordan Maison of Cine Linx, who said in a tweet:

So, #StarWarsVII trailer...yeah. It's cut and in existence already.

I can't wait to see it!

Stunning Sci-Fi Adventure Short - PLUG

stunningly-sci-fi-adventure-short-plug

I've got an incredibly awesome sci-fi short film called "Plug" that you've got to take the time to watch. The movie was directed by David Levy, and it follows a spunky girl named Leila who embarks on an adventure to find other life forms in the world that she lives in. Her survival is put in jeopardy when she does.

Levy is a designer and concept artist who has worked on films such as Tron: Legacy, Prometheus, Ender's Game, Tomorrowland, and Avatar 2. You can definitely see he brought his A-game talents to this short film, and as you'll see it turned out spectacular.

Levy sent us the short and explained that it's "a return to 1970's classics like Star Wars and Mad Max with a gritty universe, an Asimov vibe in the storyline and made from mostly live props and real life settings." Here's the synopsis that was released with the film:

On a post-apocalyptic Earth, Leila Dawn (Natalie Floyd), is the only human survivor. Raised by Robots after humanity abandoned the planet they destroyed with nuclear warfare, Leila cannot forget her parents nor ignore her yearning to find other organic life. A hunt she sets out on with a Military Unit, Marker (Lex Cassar), leads Leila to discover the reality she’s been denied—a reality that sparks her ultimate quest.

This truly is an amazing piece of work, and one of my favorite short films of the year. Enjoy the show! I also included a behind-the-scenes video as well.

Dumb and Dumber To with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels is a movie fans have been waiting years for. From what we've seen from the trailer, the comedy duo has not lost a beat. The gross out humor and fart humor of the first are completely in tact in this sequel. We have 15 photos (via Collider) and a little over three minutes of footage from the movie.

Dumb and Dumber To blasts into theaters November 14th (USA).

Lucasfilm has officially announced the title for Star Wars: Episode VII and it is… Star Wars: The Force Awakens! We've heard a few title rumors, such as A New Dawn, Return of the Sith, and Rise of the Jedi. But The Force Awakens is a perfect title to launch the new trilogy of films.

The studio made the announcement on Twitter and offered up the first official title logo for the highly anticipated movie. It came with a little message that the film has wrapped production. There's no other information to report at this time, but hopefully we get something soon.

10 Fun Facts About V FOR VENDETTA

10-fun-facts-for-v-for-vendetta

I know I'm a day late with this V For Vendetta fun facts list since the 5th of November was yesterday, but better late than never! This was such an amazing film, and it's one of my favorite from the Wachowskis, who wrote and produced it. They were such big fans of the graphic novel, that they actually had a script written for the movie before they started developing The Matrix. This is also one of those flicks that I never get tired of watching. It just has such a great and engulfing story that gives the audience food for thought. There are a ton of underlying meanings in the story. I've been enjoying doing these fun facts lists because I always tend to learn something new about a film, and that is true with V For Vendetta as well. So here are ten fun facts that you may or may not know about V For Vendetta

  • When filming the fight at the Victoria Station, the stunt-men involved literally moved in slow motion on set while David Leitch, who was Hugo Weaving's stunt double, moved in real time. That made it seem he was moving much faster then the Fingermen secret police. It was also shot at 60fps to slow the Fingermen down even more. Then at the end of the fight in the train station, when V stumbles against the wall, trying to get back to Evey, V leaves a bloodstain in the shape of a V.
  • The secret police are called Fingermen in the story because the New Order was set up as the model of the human body. "The Chancellor was the Head; the television station BTN was the mouth; visual and audio surveillance were the Eye and the Ear; Inspector Finch was part of The Nose, the police force, and Creedy's secret police were the Hand."
  • James Purefoy was originally cast as V, and he filmed some scenes that are in the movie before he was replaced by Weaving four weeks into production. Weaving just dubbed over Purefoy's performance. Purefoy left due to creative differences, and director James McTeigue had this to say when asked if he could tell the difference of the two actors in the movie: "Can I tell the difference? Yeah. Can the audience tell? I doubt it." Now I'll be looking for it the next time I watch the movie!
  • When shooting the scene where V emerges from Larkhill walking through fire, the stunt double Chad Stahelski had to literally walk through real fire. To accomplish this feat he had a special fire resistant gel and wore a g-string. Stahelski's body temperature also had to be lowered before the scene was shot, and it was three below zero the night of the shoot. The fire resistant gel he had to put on had also been freezing throughout the night.
  • "During the introduction of V to Evey, starting with 'Voila' and ending with 'coincidence', the character uses words that begin with 'V' 48 times. Also, the total number of v's in the statement is 55."
  • There is a domino scene in the movie where V tips over black and red dominoes to form a giant letter V. That set up included 22,000 dominoes, and took four professional domino pros 200 hours to set it up.
  • "V wears a mask in the guise of Guy Fawkes who is most famous for his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, which he was placed in charge with executing due to his military and explosives experience. The plot, masterminded by Robert Catesby, was a failed attempt by a group of provincial English Roman Catholic conspirators to kill King James of England and VI of Scotland, his family, and most of the Protestant aristocracy in one swoop by blowing up the Houses of Parliament during its State Opening."
  • Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley, and Bryce Dallas Howard all were considered for the role of Evey. The filmmakers made the right choice casting Natalie Portman though. She was awesome. She even said she was looking forward to shaving her head.
  • "There is a duality in the movie between V and Evey. As it is shown at the beginning of the movie, V was created through fire (laboratory fire scene), signifying destruction and vengeance in contrast with this, later on in the movie (rooftop scene), Evey is reborn through water signifying rebirth and forgiveness. The movie ends with V's death, symbolizing the end of suffering and vengeance, leaving room for Evey. And so vengeance dies leaving room for forgiveness and destruction yields in front of rebirth."
  • Even though the graphic novel was created by Alan Moore, he rejected all money and credit for the movie because of his past negative experiences with adaptations of From Hell, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Moore ended up giving all of the money he would have received to the artist who worked on the comic with him.

Thanks to Imdb for the info. Below you'll find the original trailer for the film.

Spider-Verse: Learn About All 38 Spider-Men, Women, Animal, Ghost, Alien, Mutant, and Armored Variants

Spider-Man is arguably the most popular Marvel character. He was the top costume among boys this Halloween with 2.6 million dressing as their beloved web-slinger. Because of the popularity of the character and how long he's been around, many different variants have been created. To keep these different Spider-Men, women, monkey, pig, ghost, alien, mutant, and armored characters from clashing, Marvel has wisely put many of them in completely separate realities/universes.

Artist Dell'Otto created a banner with 38 of them, which I believe is all of them. Imgur user Mmmasian has created a gallery that breaks down every single one of them. This is an incredible resource and something you've gotta dedicate sometime to reading.

Wow! This latest trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is thrilling and heart-pounding. It actually sent chills up my spine and brought on those movie trailer goosebumps. There are some spectacularly epic battle scenes teased in this thing that might just make Middle Earth fans piss themselves with happiness. The Hobbit trilogy is going to come to an end in a huge way, and I couldn't be more excited to see how this final chapter in the story plays out on the big screen. I also included a slightly different UK version of the trailer. The movie is set to march into theaters on December 15th.

How Freddy Krueger Helped Mark Hamill Land his STAR WARS Gig

0
0

Hollywood is full of all kinds of fun and interesting stories, and I have a bit of trivia here that you may have never heard before. In an interview with Yahoo, Robert Englund, the actor who famously played Freddy Krueger the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, shared the story of how he helped Mark Hamill land the role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.

Englund explained that his early career and Hamill's road to Star Wars started out with Englund auditioning for a surfer role in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now. The actor didn't get the part because he was too old for the role, but Coppola thought he might be right for another part in a film being directed by his good friend George Lucas. So an audition was set up for Englund to audition for the part of Han Solo. He didn't fit the role though because he was too young — I can't imagine the actor playing Solo at all. Englund went on to explain in his own words how these events and a six-pack of beer set a friend up for his legendary break.

"And then I went home and told a little kid that was sleeping on my couch, after a six-pack of Heineken, all about [Star Wars], and his name was Mark Hamill. I said, ‘Hey, Lucas is doing this space movie. Maybe you’re right for it. The lead guy’s like a teenager…. So Mark got on the phone to his agent and I think he went up the next day. He nailed it, and the rest is history."

There you have it! That's kind of crazy to think about because had Englund not gone through when he did, Hamill may have never auditioned for Star Wars, it was just destiny. Now he's coming back to reprise his role in the new trilogy being developed. Of course things worked out for Englund in the end when he landed the iconic horror movie role. Englund also revealed that Hamill had a crush on Carrie Fischer. Who wouldn't at that time?

Marvel Going After Source of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer Leak

marvel-going-after-source-of-avengers-age-of-ultron-trailer-leak

Uh, oh. Someone is in big trouble. When the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer leaked, a lot of fans speculated that Marvel leaked it on purpose. It looks like that's not the case at all since the studio is going after the source of the trailer leak. Even though the trailer went on to become the most viewed in the studio's history, they aren't going to let this slide. They've gone to the California Federal Court for a subpoena on Google so that they can weed out the person who leaked the trailer. The guy calls himself "John Gazelle," and the plan is to lay down Thor's hammer and serve some Marvel style justice. THR offers up some details:

"The entertainment company says in court documents that someone using the name 'John Gazelle' posted a file of the film on his Google Drive account. On October 22, a lawyer at Marvel parent Disney sent Google a takedown notice pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, requesting that Google expeditiously remove the file. But Marvel wants more identifying information about the alleged infringer. The company is going after the IP address associated with this user's YouTube and Google+ accounts. The exact nature of the uploaded file isn't detailed in court documents, but according to recent news reports, there's been circulation of an early trailer of the much-anticipated superhero film as well as a clip of a scene featuring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr."

They will find this person, and when they do they'll… thank him? Probably not, as it sounds like the studio could be worried that this is an inside job. It seems to go right along with their initial response to the trailer leak when they amusingly tweeted, "Dammit Hydra!" They obviously are looking to shut down any further leaks.

Avengers: Age of Ultron was written and directed by Joss Whedon, and it hits theaters on May 1, 2015.

Interstellar is currently out in select theaters, and if you haven't seen it yet, you need to go now. This is the most ambitious film that Christopher Nolan has made in his career, and I think he knocked it out of the park and gave us something incredible. Paramount Pictures has released a new clip from the film of the scene in which Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey meet for the first time. We also have five featurettes for the film that include the cast and crew discussing the development of the film and the story it tells. The featurettes are a great watch, especially if you've already seen the movie. Then, finally, there are a couple new TV spots for you to check out. You can read my spoiler-free review of the film here if you haven't already. The movie will get a wide release on November 7th, 2014.
