STAR WARS Actor Anthony Daniels Suggests EPISODE VII Will Be Better Than THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

0
0

The only actor who has been in all six Star Wars films is Anthony Daniels, who plays C-3PO. Because of the golden suit he wears, most people (outside of geeks) don't know what he looks like, but everyone who has seen Star Wars knows his voice.

The veteran actor took to Twitter last night to share his thoughts on Episode VII, which just wrapped shooting.

Those are some bold words by Daniels and I really do hope Episode VII lives up to it. Having been in all the Star Wars films so far, he does have a pretty good barometer. The Empire Strikes Back has been the high point in the franchise for a long time, and deservedly so. As a fan I'm expecting a lot more from the new trilogy, especially after the let down of the prequel trilogy.

Gotham City Sirens by Christopher Lee

For the first time in his “Select Your Hero” series, artist Christopher Lee shines the spotlight on some women. This is also the first time we’re seeing characters from DC represented. The first and second batches we posted consisted of only male characters from the Marvel universe. Like the previous entries, Lee includes some type of funny prop or gag with each character and over-exaggerates the size of their heads. If Lee tackles more DC characters, I look forward to seeing what he does with the already large noggin of Sinestro.

SANTA CLAUS: PRIVATE EYE - A Sitdown with Jeremy Bernstein

0

I had the opportunity to sit down with Jeremy Bernstein, writer of all kinds of things such as Leverage, Pretty in Pink, Dead Space 2, and now his new Thrillbent comic Santa Claus: Private Eye. If the name of the book caught your attention, you are definitely not alone. In our chat we touched on his new book, how it came about, and even talked some Dead Space to boot, so without further ado, here is our conversation:

Matt Mueller: I got to go through the first four chapters of Santa Claus: Private Eye. I really enjoyed it. Can you go into some detail of how the whole project and getting the artist, and the colorist etc. came about?

Jeremy Bernstein: A lot of it came through Thrillbent. You know, I had had the idea. I had been sitting on it for awhile, I worked with John Rodgers when I was on Leverage, and when I first started turning my attention to a comic I wasn't thinking of asking him to publish it but given his experience in the comics world I was asking him for some guidance on comic book writing, and I gave him the pitch and he said, "Let's talk about that some more." So yeah, Thrillbent was able to hook me up with Mike Dorman, my artist, and Rob Schwager, my colorist, and Troy Peteri, the letterist, I think does everything at Thrillbent.

santapi_eng_01_02_117-1200x900.jpg

Mike was a fantastic find honestly. I believe he just sent John a tweet over Twitter, and said, "Hey ,I'm an artist, I love the site and here's my portfolio. If you are looking for someone to do drawing, let me know." And we checked out the portfolio and it was fantastic. And he sent it in right as we were looking for an artist for this. He had some great noir-ish stuff that was right up the alley of what we wanted and we hired him off of that. He just killed it, and it was fantastic working with him, and I can't say enough good things about him. He took what I wrote and gave me what I meant, which is just the dream for a writer. Then Alex Courtland, producer at Thrillbent, got in touch with Rob Schwager, though, I don't have the details on how that happened. But we were delighted to get him as he is one of the greats and has so much experience and does such great work. There was a brief period of time where we were debating if it should be a black and white comic, and ultimately decided if you are doing Santa Claus you gotta see the red in the suit, and I think that was the right call because watching what he did, the art is amazing, and Mike just killed it. And then Rob came in and I didn't think it could get this much better, but it really did. So every time I get new pages I'm just utterly [delighted] with how it’s turned out.

So glad you ended up going with color, as I'm a big fan of how Thrillbent does the more motion comic style in their books, and having it in color only enhances that.

Mmhmm.

At the beginning, when the Christmas tree is front and center, the lights are flickering, and things like that add a lot to the book overall. And, of course, the red is iconic. I'm glad you get to see the red in the suit, though seeing it in black and white would have been cool, I think going with color was a great choice.

The worst idea we had was like, "Well, what if we did just white, black, and red?" (laughter) and then we were like, "Yeahhh, that would be dumb. Let's not do that. That would just be pretentious."

Plus it might evoke memories, not fond ones mind you, of The Spirit movie a few years ago. Most people didn't exactly react well to that, and no reason to get anyone confused.

Yeah, no no no.

It's also nice to be seeing people getting jobs on Twitter, because everyone seems to ignore my tweets when I send out ( in my view, wonderful) ideas. I'm trying to get a CHiPS reunion going again, cause they had the previous one, but now I want a third one, but no one seems to be hopping on that bandwagon with me. It's nice to see someone succeed where I am failing.

(Laughter)

Overall, the art comes together really well here, and it's a story where you hear the premise and my initial reaction was to laugh. That sounds awesome, and like it would have a more goofball slapstick feel, but then you read it and it is very different. Was it always envisioned that way, and did it always have a darker edge to it? Or was it more lighthearted at some point but then branched off to where it currently is now?

It started as, well, the initial idea was I just wanted to write a supernatural detective story and was looking for a supernatural being that hadn't been done. We've seen vampires and we've seen werewolves and lizards and what not, and not to denigrate those because I love them, but I was just looking for something fresh. In the back of my head I was like, "Well, I could do Santa Claus hahaha." And then kind of went, "No seriously." The more I started thinking about it the more I was like, "Well, he knows if you've been naughty or nice, right?" Well, thats a good skill for a detective. He can climb down chimneys, so he's really good at sneaking into places to snoop around. If Santa Claus had to moonlight, moonlighting as a detective is not the worst job in the world for him. And then I was sort of into moonlighting as detectives, and that kind of led me pretty naturally into the whole sort of noir area.

Then the thing that really sealed it for me, as far as the noir aspect, was when I started thinking about the character and asked the question of why would Santa Claus moonlight and finding the sort of dark and depressive take on Santa Claus. He brings the joy to the world, but who brings joy to him? You know? Why does he do that? What does he actually get out of it? Does he get anything out of it or is this just sort of an endless existence? Once you turn being Santa Claus into a midlife crisis, and a job where you are stuck in a rut, then it lends itself pretty nicely to a serious noir take. You know noir is always a down on his luck guy, and it's always about the seedy underbelly of things. A depressed Santa wandering around in the seedy underbelly of humanity with a gun and a trench coat? I'm sold! That is something I want to read.

Yeah, and you get to the end of chapter 4. Aince this will go out before everyone has a chance to read it, I won't go all spoiler, but towards the end he discovers something, and it got me thinking. I never thought about, especially when you hear about all the legends about Santa Claus, but you know he doesn't just find cookies and milk waiting for him.

Yep.

He must find all kinds of stuff, because late at night and early in the morning is when all kinds of dark things go on. It made total sense that he would happen upon something of that nature. So how on earth does he deal with that on a regular basis? Plus, it kind of brought up the topic of, someone has to pay for Christmas. Whether it be of magical origin or someone actually having to pay all these elves and for the upkeep of the North Pole. I really enjoy how some of those are woven in. As far as bringing him joy goes, it's evidently not his wife, because every time she is mentioned it is not in a joyful way.

(Laughter)

I do love the icy font used on the dialog boxes when it comes to her.

I've got plans for her. The fun in this kind of mashup is sort of taking the troupes of both genres and figuring out how to smoosh them together, so having Emily the elf become the receptionist, sort of a the girl friday, was a very obvious one. Having Jack Frost as the street snitch was another one that seemed like a good mashup. I wanted a very noir-ish Mrs. Clause when she does finally show up, which hopefully this will do well and we will do another cycle and Mrs. Claus will play into that one a little more heavily. It was fun just sort of figuring that one out and who she is.

Poor Jack Frost, I feel really bad for him.

(Laughter)

His first thing in awhile right? I mean I loved their take on him in Rise of the Guardians, and that didn't do well so I was bummed. Then you had Martin Short in The Santa Clause 3 and I felt bad because that wasn't received too well, and now he's a bum peeping on people. This guy can't catch a break.

Haha, you know I have to say it was something that my mother said that tipped me off on that, because my family lives in Chicago. Double paned windows don't frost up.

Aha!

So what the hell does Jack Frost even do anymore?

I never really thought of that. He serves no real purpose anymore.

Yeah! He's a magical avatar whose domain has disappeared from out from under him. So now he just becomes a bum who looks in windows. Okay haha, why not? I'll write the hell out of that.

Sandman probably feels the same way since the day they introduced Ambien. Probably hates that.

Yeah, the modern world is not good to mythical figures.

Not at all. I'm kind of feeling bad for them now to be honest.

(Laughter)

Now you've had a pretty interesting and varied writing career. You've written for TV shows, movies, and video games as well. What was the biggest transition or was there one at all in going from those formats to comics?

You know, I almost feel bad saying this, because I know a lot of people who talk about how hard a transition it is. I didn't find it that hard personally, and I think it is because I've always been a very visual writer. I always try to visualize a scene and then describe what it is that I am seeing. Not every writer works in the same way, but I think that helped me tremendously when coming into comics because it just required a little bit more specificity in terms of what each individual image was. There was certainly a learning curve. It was initially written as a conventional graphic novel before Thrillbent got involved, and then I had to convert it into the digital comics form. Learning how to manipulate the page turns was a really tricky but satisfying problem to work with. It was an unfortunate turn when I got it into my head that it was the odd pages that were the ones you flipped over and not the even pages, so all my big reveals were in the wrong place and then I had to cut a page from the beginning and add a page at the end. That was not my best day working on this, but other than that I really enjoyed it. Alot of people say, or some of the tv people say when you are writing a comic you are also directing at the same time, and they say that as if its a bad thing, but I really enjoyed getting to do that.

How was your experience writing a video game? I know at this point video games are not near movies as far as scale and production and things like that, but there are a lot of people involved in making a game nowadays, and it is getting much much closer.

Oh yeah.

How was that whole process of writing the script [for Dead Space 2]? It was really well received.

Yeah it was a real honor to be a part of that. The hardest part of working on games has been that its only in the last few years that people have really started taking stories seriously in games, and really the last 5 years it has been turned on its head, as story and narrative become an asset rather than an add on. You know the hardest part of it was working freelance on it. The whole team was up in San Francisco and I was down here working in LA, so that was the big challenge. Sort of having a very important role to contribute and they were really open to my ideas, I went up there a couple of times and spent weeks in a room with those guys figuring everything out, but in a lot of ways being a part of a team was the biggest challenge, and I think that jobs, especially in big triple A games like that, jobs for freelance writers on that kind of thing are drying up. I think those writers are being brought in house as full time hires, which I think is great for the medium. I think that narrative has a lot to offer in how it can work. When narrative integrates well with gameplay that is when magic really happens. When narrative and gameplay are at odds, that's when you don't have a mature medium. So that was the biggest challenge for me working on that.

As far as the actual writing process, games certainly have their unique elements. They are much more focused on what the player does and not on what the characters do, and you have to be able to write a story for someone who may not be playing the game the way you're thinking of it, and that can be a really tricky part of it. When push comes to shove, for me, I went to USC film school in the screenwriting program, that's where I got a lot of my grounding anyway. The definition of a story that they teach us there is someone who wants something badly and is having a hard time getting it. Well, in video games, the character wants something badly, that is their objective right? You usually put that right up on the display because it's such an important part of the game. It's having a hard time getting it. Well, that's gameplay, right? So that definition of a story to me defines the essence of a game, and so I find with sort of that philosophy I find that to be a very natural way to think about game stories when coming up with it and that was a lot of the approach I brought into Dead Space, was to say, "What do we want? What's our objective? And what's in our way? And how do those things continue to escalate throughout the course of the story so it doesn't go flat?"

Games have gotten so much better and more involved, especially over the last 5 years, and really when it comes to narrative, though, it's not for everybody of course. I know plenty of people who, when it comes to story, they don't care. They will blow things up thousands of times and could care less as to why, which is completely fine. For me and the types of games I like to play, the narrative adds so much and keeps me from feeling as if I'm just mindlessly clicking and moving, clicking and moving, and so on.

I do a lot of talks about story in games, and it's why I'm going to China actually. I'm doing a talk at GDC China about character in video games. I would go to these conferences and 5 years ago the conversation was all about how writers need to be taken seriously. At GDC in San Francisco this year we were sort of having the conversation we have every year, and were all sort of realizing that that is not the conversation anymore. The conversation now is how can we make the most out of the access we have. The conversation honestly was more of a wish list. It was like, "Well, it would be nice if I had a better office." It's not quite that trivial, but like, compared to what we were talking about 5 years ago, which was, "Will somebody for the love of God please take writers seriously!" That's not the conversation anymore, and that to me is really exciting, and I'll be the first one to admit that Tetris doesn't need a story. People ask me. It doesn't.

Games don't need stories, but human beings love stories and crave stories. There is not an art form out there that we haven't at some point turned towards the telling of stories. So if we're going to tell stories in games, let's do it well. If we don't want to tell [a] story in a game don't bother, who needs it? That has long been my case. People ask me what my favorite game is and, honestly, my favorite game is a board game. It's called Blokus. I don't know if you've ever played it, but I cannot recommend it highly enough. It’s just brilliant and simple. You have four players and you've got four colors, and it's a big grid, and you have pieces that are like Tetris pieces. You play them on the board and the rule is that your pieces can only touch at corners. You can't have any two edges of your color touch. Everyone plays one piece and takes turns going around the board, and whoever has the fewest pieces left at the end is the winner. That's it. That is the entire game. It is that simple and it is just extraordinary. The interactions and the strategies and the gameplay that comes out of such a simple set of rules is fantastic.

As a writer and a narrative junkie, this is my favorite game, so I don't need narrative in my games. But if its going to be there it better be good.

Yeah it better impress.

Yeah exactly, it better be worthwhile.

Before we wrap up here, when does the next issue of Santa Claus: Private Eye drop?

We are dropping every Monday between now and Christmas.

Hey that worked out.

Hahaha, not a coincidence!

Haha, know your market.

Absolutely.

Well thank you for taking the time to talk to me, really appreciate it.

Oh my pleasure, thanks for having me on!

I really enjoyed that talk, and thanks to Thrillbent for the opportunity to sit down with Jeremy. If you are interested in Santa Claus: Private Eye, you can head over to Thrillbent’s site and give the first four chapters a read, all free of charge.

Photos of the R2-D2 Unit Used in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

Star Wars: Episode VII officially wrapped production, and the film is ready to move forward into post-production. Thanks to a user on The RFP, we have some photos from the wrap party event that feature the R2-D2 droid unit that was actually used in the J.J. Abrams-directed movie.

What's cool about these photos is that it looks like R2 has seen some action. The poor droid is battered and dirty, which makes sense for a 50-year-old droid who has taken a few beatings in his day. The question is, will he make it through this next phase of films in full working order? I sure hope so! The Star Wars universe just wouldn't be complete without him.

In a recent interview, Anthony Daniels talked about what he thinks the future will hold for C-3PO, which I imagine would be the same future for R2-D2 since they are basically an inseparable team.

"I think he would go on. Getting spare parts, getting surgery. And I think the people around him, humans and droids alike, would help because he would become part of their daily lives, part of their environment. They wouldn’t want to let him go. You know, I’m a great do-it-yourself person at home. I mend pretty much anything I can, whether it’s melting plastic with a hot skewer from the stove because the plastic is cracked, or with my glue gun mending this or that, or cannibalizing a part from something else that I kept in the workshop. I will keep objects going. I’m not from the throw-away culture, I’m from the make-and-mend culture. Threepio is nice to have around. I think he would go on and on and on."

I'm sure that these droids will be around for as long as Lucasfilm is making Star Wars movies. Star Wars: Episode VII opens in theaters December 18th, 2015.

Beyond the Future of Superhero Movies 2020-2025 - Amusing Calendar

beyond-the-future-of-superhero-movies-2020-2015-amusing-calendar

Last week we shared an infographic that lists all the superhero movies that will be released through 2020. Dorkly took the list to a whole new level and created a parody calendar that shows us what kind of superhero movies we'll see after that. It's called "Beyond the Future of Superhero Movies 2020-2015."

The chart is packed full of funny bogus movie ideas, and it would be pretty hilarious if just one of these movie actually came into existence. Be sure to look through the chart because it has some great stuff, such as The Contractual Spider-Man, Rocket Raccoon and Groot Meet the Flintstones, and Fantastic Four 3: Turtles in Time. In all seriousness though, after Marvel announced Phase 3 of their master plan, it's going to be really interesting to see what they are looking at for Phase 4.

Great Trailer for the MINIONS Animated Adventure

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for Illumination Entertainment's Despicable Me spin-off, Minions, and it actually looks pretty damn funny. I've enjoyed both Despicable Me films, and this spin-off is sure to be a huge hit for the studio. Minions have become quite popular over the years, and I don't know a single kid that doesn't love those yellow troublemakers.

Below you will find a full detailed synopsis along with the enjoyable trailer.

Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.

But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind... from annihilation.

Featuring a soundtrack of hit music from the ’60s, Minions is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. Brian Lynch has written the screenplay for the 3D-CG comedy adventure, and Chris Renaud serves as executive producer of the film.

The movie is set to be released on July 10th, 2015.

Jessica Chastain Has Met With Marvel about a Future Movie Role

jessica-chastain-has-met-with-marvel-about-a-future-movie-role

I don't know if you remember this or not, but Jessica Chastain was up for the role of Maya Hanson in Iron Man 3. She had to drop out, though, and was replaced by Rebecca Hall. Marvel didn't forget about her, and it looks like they are still looking to bring her into the Marvel universe. In an interview with MTV, she revealed that she's met with Marvel, and that what type of role she is looking for in their cinematic universe.

“We’ve talked about aligning our forces in the future. And here’s the thing with me… If you’re going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You’re that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian? Whatever it is, I want a fight scene. I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass. There was  thing...I don’t want to say too much – but there was one thing, there was a possibility in the future of the character becoming… And I was like, ‘I understand that, but I want to do it now.’"

The big Marvel female superhero on everyone's mind is on right now is Captain Marvel, so of course that's who all of the fans are speculating she will play. She went on to say,

“There was one thing. I don’t want to say too much – but there was one thing, there was a possibility in the future of the character becoming… And I was like, ‘I understand that, but I want to do it now.'"

Now, there have been rumors of Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers, appearing in some form at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron. That has not been confirmed though. When asked if she was aware of the whole Captain Marvel thing, she said,

“Yes, I do know about that. Listen, that’s 2018. We don’t know where we’ll be, maybe I’ll give up acting by then.”

Chastain is a freakin' great actress who takes on strong female roles. She most recently starred in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. It's kind of hard for me to imagine her as Captain Marvel, though. But maybe Marvel was able imagine her in the role, maybe they gave her the part, maybe they didn't. Maybe they have another character that they want her to take on. One thing is for certain… we are just going to have to be patient and see what comes of this. What do you think about the possibility of Chastain playing Captain Marvel?

Make sure to check out our list of eight actresses that we'd like to see in the role.

This is the first Star Wars Rebels cosplay we've ever posted, and I'm sure it won't be the last. It's a great show that I can watch with my toddler and even my wife watches with me. Sabine Wren, crew member of the Ghost, has been cosplayed Eitanya a member of the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club. Not only did she build great armor, but she's rocking the haircut and distinctive hair color. Well done, Eitanya.

More DAREDEVIL Series Details from Showrunner Steven DeKnight

more-daredevil-series-details-from-showrunner-steven-deknight

Daredevil series showrunner Steven DeKnight took to Twitter recently to answer fan questions regarding the highly anticipated Marvel Netflix series. During New York City Comic-Con we got our first look at the series, along with some story details. But now we've got some new information that includes which character we won't see in the series, what the tone is like, and the inspiration behind the story development of the show. Here are many of the questions and answers from his little Twitter frenzy.

The series was inspired by Frank Miller and John Romita, Jr.'s Daredevil: Man Without Fear comic series, which is considered one of the most influential Daredevil stories ever. It follows the journey of Murdock, "who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City."

The series stars Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Bob Gunton (Leland Owlsely aka The Owl), Vondie Curtis Hall (Ben Urich), Toby Leonard Moore (Wesley, Wilson Fisk's right hand man), Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Fisk), and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk).

Suspenseful and Eerie Short Film - EXIT

suspenseful-and-creepy-short-film-exit

My favorite horror movies are the ones that build suspense, and that's exactly what this short film called "Exit" does. It's a subtly creepy story that is more intelligent than it is shocking. One of the reason why I like these kinds of films is that they mess with your head and the story and imagery sticks with you. The film was written and directed by Daniel Zimbler, and it is based on an Edwardian short story of the same name by Harry Farjeon. Here is the short summary that was attached to the short:

At a country manor in Edwardian England, a parlour trick becomes a bewitching – and one of the guests gets his dark desire.

I really don't want to give much more away of the story than that, but it plays out like an episode of The Twilight Zone. It starts out slow, but the spookiness of it sneaks up on you, and it escalates into a wonderfully made supernatural thriller. This is one of those films that you just have to experience. It stars Julian Glover (Game of Thrones, The Empire Strikes Back).  Enjoy the show!

Director Scott Derrickson Hints at DOCTOR STRANGE Movie Plot?

director-scott-derrickson-hints-at-doctor-strange-movie-plot

Even though Marvel has officially locked down Doctor Strange for a 2016 release, they still have yet to make an official casting announcement. At this point, we are waiting to hear that Benedict Cumberbatch will play the Sorcerer Supreme. There's not much known about the story, just a few bits and pieces that we've learned through internet rumors. One of the bigger things that has been reported is that the movie might not tell an origin story for the character. It was already revealed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Stephen Strange is already established as a person of interest and great power within the larger Marvel cinematic universe.

The film is sure to at least tell us some information on how the superhero character came to exist. Director Scott Derrickson recently posted the Doctor Strange image you see above on Twitter, which might give us a hint of where they are finding some of their inspiration. If this gives us any indication, it's possible that they may have found a story that gives them a solid middle ground to work with between the origin and already established character.

I imagine the beautiful piece of art was sent out to provide a hint about the source material that Derrickson and his crew have been working with when developing the movie. It comes from the 1986 graphic novel Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa, which was created by J.M. DeMatteis and Dan Green. The story starts out with Strange visiting the home of the Ancient One twenty years after he was taught the ways of magic and sorcery. An artifact is left for him as a gift and he returns home to study it. In the process, he opens up communication with beings from a higher reality that are known as the Lords of Shamalla. This opens a door that would allow humanity to reach another level or plane of existence. Of course, to make it happen, an enormous sacrifice would have to be made.

I wouldn't be surprised that they would used this storyline as inspiration. The graphic novel tells one of the best Doctor Strange stories ever. It also provides the perfect way for audiences to be introduced this character's mystical story. I could easily see the film starting out with Strange returning to the home of the Ancient One. It's an effective way to address the Doctor Strange origin without taking up a large chunk of the movie. But then again, maybe he just sent it out to show the visual style that he is going for in the movie.

I would love it if this is the direction they took the movie!

Little Batman in BatMech - "Who the Hell Do You Think I Am?!!"

Artist Sergey Shamaev created this amusing and adorable piece of Batman art that he calls "Who the HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!!" It features a little Batman ready to fight crime in his big-headed BatMech. I could see something like this being used in a animated Batman series for kids. Speaking of which, Batman could use another great animated series.

I love the old 1960s Batman series as it was my introduction into the world of comic book heroes. Batman: The Complete Series BluRay set is coming next week November 11th. You can preorder it on Amazon for $175, which is 35% off the list price.

For more details check out our detailed breakdown.

Warner Bros. has released a split-screen video that shows just how amazing the new transfer looks. It's insane how much new detail is in these new Blu-rays. We also got a few screen grabs that present the sharper transfer.

IMAX 70mm INTERSTELLAR Print Assembly Video

Ever wonder how a 70mm IMAX print is assembled and prepared for projection? Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s AutoNation IMAX Theater Chief Projectionist Armando Mena released a video that explains how this is accomplished, and he does it with a print of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. It shows you just how much work goes into projecting 70mm film onto a giant IMAX screen so that audiences can enjoy the movie.

After seeing all of the effort put into this, I can see why IMAX is eventually eventually going drop the use of celluloid and go full digital with a laser projector system. The video was posted by Discovery and Science, and I'd like to see more behind-the-scenes videos like this. If you have a theater to go to where you can watch Interstellar in 70mm IMAX, you need to do it!

Attack on Titan is one badass action-packed anime that has generated a huge following over the years. Season 2 of the anime is currently in development, and there's a live-action movie in the works. You can spot a ridiculous number of Attack on Titan cosplayers at any geek convention. We now have word from Marvel Comics talent scout C.B. Cebulski that there is going to be a crossover with Marvel's Spider-Man! He even released a piece of teaser art to get your geek juices flowing! Here are the series of Tweets that Cebulski sent out:

"Three days in Tokyo is never enough but the trip was a super success. Big news coming soon that will blow the minds of @Marvel & manga fans!"
"I loved "Marvel Team-Up" and "What If?" as a kid. I would spend hours dreaming up my own crossovers & alternate reality stories. (cont.)"
"As I got more into manga, I always imagined how cool it would be for the Marvel characters to cross into the pages of manga worlds. (cont.)"
"For many decades & multiple reasons, almost no manga, especially popular titles, crossed into other comic universes... until now! (cont.)"
"If you ever wondered, "What if the titans from Hajime Isayama's "Attack on Titan"  attacked the Marvel universe?", you'll find out soon!!"
"Not a joke, folks. Attack on Titan and the @Marvel universe are crossing over! In 2 weeks. In Japan. Want a teaser? "

That's is all of the information that we have now, but there's no doubt that this is going to be an epic event for fans, and I can't wait to see what the story entails. It's going to be so cool to see Spider-Man fight against these giant titans! Especially with him possibly swinging alongside the Survey Corps, Garrison, and Military Police Brigade divisions, who, as you know, use their Vertical Maneuvering Equipment to battle these titans. Spider-Man will fit right in. I'm super stoked about this! As soon as more details are revealed I'll let you know!

It can't be easy being Gamora. You have quite possibly the worst dad in the universe, you call a small raccoon and a giant tree your roommates, and your leader is constantly having daddy issues. The thing is, she's done pretty well for herself. What with her being one of the universe's finest and most deadly assassins. Hey, you have to put all that aggression somewhere, right? Regardless, Gamora is quickly becoming a go-to favorite for great cosplay, so enjoy some of the best Gamora cosplay around!

Remarkable Trailer for Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE

awesome-trailer-for-neil-blomkamps-chappie

The first trailer has been released for Neill Blomkamp's futuristic sci-fi action-adventure film Chappie. This movie looks absolutely amazing, and I love the inspiring tone of this trailer. Blomkamp is the same director that brought us District 9 and Elysium, and this next project looks like it could be one of his best.

Chappie tells the story of an experimental robot humanoid with artificial intelligence who is "a gentle presence with a bulletproof metal skin programmed to paint pictures, write poetry and have original ideas." According to the synopsis, he is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own purposes. As his adventure plays out he builds up the capacity to think and feel for himself resulting in the next step of robot evolution.

The film stars Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, and he also did the motion capture work for the character as well. It also stars Ninja and Yolandi Visser, of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters. The rest of the cast includes Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, and Sigourney Weaver. The movie will be released on March 6th, 2015.

DRAGON BALL Z Art by Angel Palacios

Artist Angel Palacios has created a poster style art piece the features many of our favorite .Dragon Ball Z characters. Dragon Ball Z is a great manga and anime but the live-action movie was terrible. I really wish they would have done a movie in the style of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. I really do think going with that CGI animation style would look incredible.

Will Gwen Stacy Be Resurrected in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3?

We have absolutely no idea what Sony Pictures plans on doing with Spider-Man at this point. There's been so many rumors being reported by reputable sites, but we've heard no official confirmation on anything. We've heard that Spider-Man could be rebooted again with Sinister Six, that Marvel is in negotiations with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, and that they also might be thinking about making an all-female Spider-Man movie. We now have a new rumor to throw into the pot.

According to Christian Today, who have landed a few scoops in the past, the studio is looking at bringing Gwen Stacy back from the dead for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Now even though the film was given a release date of June 10th, 2016, we don't know at this point if the studio still plans on moving forward with it.

As you know, Gwen died at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But according to the report, the studio may be contemplating resurrecting her in the same way that Marvel comics did. In the comic storyline, there's a professor from Empire State University who was in love with Gwen, and when she died he went a little crazy. He became a villain known as The Jackal and created a clone of Gwen.

This could be just pure speculation, but with the studio toying with the idea of of an all-female Spider-verse movie, anything could happen. If they are willing to go there, I think they'd be willing to talk about bringing Gwen back to be a part of this female superhero universe.

This rumor is really out there and should be taken with a grain of salt. But if this is something that Sony is considering, do you think it's a good idea?
