Celebrities Audition for Richard Ayoade in Funny Videos

celebrities-audition-for-richard-ayoade-in-funny-videos-social.jpeg

It’s the end of the day and we’re tired and just want to laugh and cure cancer. Fortunately for us, we can do both by watching this two part video for Stand Up To Cancer UK (and then clicking on the link to donate money). In the videos, every geek girl’s favorite comedian/actor/director, Richard Ayoade, and maybe a few geek girls’ favorite tennis player, Andy Murray, audition a variety of celebrities for various roles in a biopic about Andy’s life. Michael Sheen, Andy Serkis, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, and Britney Spears all appear, as do a slew of celebrities that you might need to be an anglophile to recognize. Dara Ó Briain! Noel Fielding! Dynamo!? Tim Henman…?

The whole thing is very fun, and Murray is a really good sport about all the shots Ayoade takes at him. And of course, Ayoade is his usual delightful self. Watch it and just try not to fall down the rabbit hole of YouTube videos of Ayoade panel show appearances.

Warning: Gordon Ramsay appears in part two, so there is a bit of NSFW language.

Quicksilver Scene Confirmed for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, Talk of Possible Solo Film

quicksilver-scene-confirmed-for-x-men-apocalypse-and-possible-solo-film

You know that awesome Quicksilver prison break scene that we all loved from X-Men: Days of Future Past? Well, second unit director Brian Smrz revealed in an interview with Newsarama that it was he who did most of the work on bringing that scene to life instead of director Bryan Singer. He also throws out a few hints about X-Men: Apocalypse and a possible solo movie for Quicksilver. Here's what he said about working on the prison break scene:

"Probably the most memorable part of the film was getting the chance to work closely with almost all of the main cast in various scenes. As far as a particular scene that sticks out the most, I’d say the kitchen sequence with Quicksilver. I ended up doing a lot of that," he revealed before adding, "I did most of it, to be honest. I have a great relationship with Bryan Singer, and he really let me do a lot there. The scenes where they enter, as well as parts where they’re frozen – I did most of it. It’s very time consuming, especially with the phantom camera and the rain. Bryan was there and did some of the key parts, but I did the rest."

When asked what we should expect from the sequel, he wouldn't give away many details away. But he did say that there will be another Quicksilver scene, and that he is really looking forward to doing it. Smrz was then asked if he was interested in directing his own movies, and if there are any currently in the pipeline. This was his reply:

"We talked about Quicksilver before, I’d love to do a Quicksilver as a solo film because there’s a lot to enjoy with that character. But I’m not geared just towards superhero movies; for me it’s about great main characters, and finding movies that have that."

So there has at least been some talk about a standalone Quicksilver movie, which would be amazing. There was a rumor that hit a couple weeks ago about Quicksilver possibly leading a new X-Men TV series that is in development. Nothing has been confirmed for that though, which means anything could happen with the character at this point. All I know is that I would love to see more Quicksilver.

Eye-Catching Mandalorian Cosplay Shoot in Hawaii

Most Mandalorians sell their skills of war to the highest bidder. However, I’d like to imagine that for every dozen or so that grow up to be bounty hunters, there’s at least one easy-going guy who wants just relax on an island somewhere. Cosplayer plasticcraq takes his Mandalorian armor to the serene waters of Hawaii for this photoshoot by Photocyclone. Sure, he has his gun out and looks to be stalking some sort of target, but let’s not jump to conclusions here. He could just be on the “hunt” for some Spam musubi and a good malasada place. What? It’s possible.

Not too long ago we posted a couple of screenshots from the trailer for Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron. The trailer was supposed to be released during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. next week, but it didn't take long for it to leak online. The trailer contains over two minutes of complete awesomeness, and it's very different from what the studio presented to fans at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. Now just watch the trailer and be amazed by what Joss Whedon is giving the fans!

UPDATE: Marvel has responded to the leak by A) blaming HYDRA, and B) just releasing the teaser already. I've included the tweets below the video.

Batgirl Puts Her Batbrush to Good Use in Fan Art

Artist Kurt Chang has created an amusing piece of fan art featuring Batgirl using her batbrush, or her batarang as a batbrush. It makes perfect sense to me that batgirl would have a batbrush though, but this is just the first time I've ever seen anything where she is actually using one. The artist also has a fun visual style.

Tom Hanks' BACHELOR PARTY Being Adapted into a TV Series at ABC

Tom Hanks' classic 1984 comedy Bachelor Party is set to be adapted into a TV series by ABC. Bachelor Party was Hanks' second big feature film after Splash, and it's a hilarious movie that is a must see for any comedy fan. The series is described as being a half-hour comedy anthology series.

Variety says that the show will "examine relationships and the institution of marriage through the lens of three couples: one about to get married, another recently divorced and a third just falling in love. They will experience the trial-by-fire that is the modern day, co-ed bachelor/bachelorette extravaganza."

This isn't the first classic Hanks' movie to get a TV series order. Fox recently announced that they are developing a series based on the 1988 movie Big. I wonder how Hanks feels about his movies being turned into TV shows.

Just in case you've never seen Bachelor Party, I included the original trailer for it below.

DragonCon always seems to have an amazing splay turn out, especially in terms of quality of cosplay costumes that we see. The Distraction Channel posted a video of most of the Marvel cosplayers that were present at the convention. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn also showed up to show his support for the horde of Marvel awesomeness.

The big Marvel Comics photo and video shoot included James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director) and comic creators George Pérez (JLA VS Avengers) and Kelly Sue Deconnick (Captain Marvel). Cosplays included an Iron Totoro, an amazing Iceman by Dustin Fletcher, Groot by HurleyFX as well as many Guardians of the Galaxy cosplayers and much more.

Sean Bean Joins Matt Damon in Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN

Sean Bean has been cast alongside Matt Damon in Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi feature, The Martian. The film is based on an e-book written by Andy Weir, and Damon plays an astronaut who is stranded in a Martian colony. He just has to survive long enough for NASA to organize a reuse mission and come after him.

According to THR, Bean will play a NASA flight director, so there's a good chance that this will be a movie that he won't die in. Bean joins an all-star cast that also includes Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, and Kristen Wiig. Other recent cast additions include Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sebastian Stan.

It's always great to see Bean in the movies, and I'm sure this will be a great part for him. Here's a more detailed description from the book:

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.
Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and PINOCCHIO Mashup Trailer

avengers-age-of-ultron-and-pinocchio-mashup-trailer

It didn't take long for someone to mash together the new trailer for Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron and Disney's animated classic, Pinocchio. It had to be done! Especially with that creepy-ass cover of "I've Got No Strings" that was created for the Age of Ultron trailer. That thing was pulled right from my nightmares. The mashup takes the visuals of Pinocchio and combines them with the audio from the Age of Ultron trailer, creating something completely eerily awesome. It's called "Avengers: Age of Pinocchio," and it was created by Nerd Reactor. Enjoy!

In advance of tomorrow's new episode of Gotham, we have a new promo for you to watch. This is the sixth episode of the series, and it's titled, "Spirit of the Goat." The trailer features a masked menace who is terrorizing the city, and I've gotta say, it looks an awful lot like Scarecrow. But I guess there's a chance it might not be. You can check out five previously released clips from the episode here if you missed them. I also included a new featurette for the series called "The Cat, The Bat and Gotham." This is a short plot summary of what they have in store for the episode:

When a killer begins targeting the first born of Gotham's elite, Bullock is forced to confront traumatic memories from a nearly identical case he worked in the past. Later, Gordon is confronted by past decisions.

Last week's episode was pretty freakin' fantastic. I loved the intensity that it brought. If you haven't watch it yet, then I suggest you not watch the spot below.

Trailer for Orson Welles Documentary MAGICIAN

A wonderful trailer has been released for a documentary called Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles. Welles is a legendary filmmaker who is best known for his film Citizen Kane and his famous War of the Worlds radio broadcast. He was an incredible artist and visionary, and the doc focuses on his Hollywood career as a star and troubled director. According to IndieWire,

Magician digs into Welles' oeuvre on the eve of his centenary. Workman covers the midwestern childhood demons that fueled Citizen Kane, young Welles' prodigious theatrical accomplishments, love of Shakespeare, and move toward radio and cinema with "Citizen Kane," which was demolished by the film's fictionalized subject, William Randolph Hearst, as well as how Welles was his own worst enemy in terms of protecting his work. There is rarely seen footage of such masterpieces as Chimes at  Midnight (he plays Falstaff) and Macbeth, The Trial and Mr. Arkadin.

"Magician includes clips from almost every existing Welles film, from Hearts of Age, which he shot in one day at age 18 to rare unfinished films The Other Side of the Wind, The Deep, and Don Quixote as well as some appearances on television and commercials. Also in the film are interviews with Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Richard Linklater (Me and Orson Welles), and of course, critic and filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich."

I remember studying many of the films that Welles made when I was in college, and the guy was a filmmaking genius. This looks like a fascinating doc, and it's one that I'm looking forward to watching. Magician opens December 12th at Lincoln Plaza and the Royal in Los Angeles for a one-week Academy-qualifying run.

We've been seeing a ton of cosplay music videos recently because of all of the great geek conventions that have taken place over the last month. Today we have a new one created by Beat Down Boogie, and it features a ton of cosplay action from New York Comic Con 2014. This is the first time in a few years that I've missed out on NYCC, and I'm kind of bummed. I heard it was a great year.

New Line Cinema has released a new poster and banner for Horrible Bosses 2, which stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Chris Pine, and Christoph Waltz. Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in the sequel. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. THE LEGO MOVIE 2 Will Be Written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller

the-lego-movie-2-will-be-writing-by-phil-lord-and-chris-miller

Phil Lord and Chris Miller have officially signed on with Warner Bros. to write the script for The LEGO Movie sequel. They wrote and directed the first movie, which, as you know, was completely awesome.

It was recently revealed that Warner Bros. will be developing a spin-off LEGO Batman movie before they make the sequel. That movie will be directed by the animation supervisor on The LEGO Movie, Chris McKay. He was set to direct the sequel before he made the switch, and there's no word on whether he'll come back on board when he's done with the Batman LEGO movie, which is being written by Seth Grahame-Smith. I'm sure there's an option for Lord and Miller to direct the sequel if they want to.

The directors have a lot of other projects going on right now. Some of those include a Will Forte comedy series they are executive producing called Last Man on Earth. They also have two other pilots they are developing: an untitled comedy with The Interview screenwriter Dan Sterling, which is set up at CBS, as well as a remake of the 1981 superhero dramedy Greatest American Hero at Fox. Then, of course, there's 23 Jump Street, which was recently announced.

The studio has set the release date for The LEGO Movie sequel for May 26th, 2017. I can't wait to see what adventures these characters will embark on next.

You know what's even better than listening to Samuel L. Jackson reading Adam Mansbach's satirical bedtime story, Go The F**k to Sleep? Listening to Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation star LaVar Burton reading it while wearing a Captain Planet t-shirt! He read it in support of Rooster Teeth's Extra Life charity drive telethon. Now, Jackson did an awesome job, but what makes this version so much more awesome is that Burton reads it in that nostalgia-stoking Reading Rainbow voice of his. You just can't beat that.

BREAKING BAD for Kids Deals Math Instead of Meth

breaking-bad-parody-for-kids-instead-of-dealing-meth-they-deal-math

"Experience all the drama from the original, without any drama from the original!"

I came across this hilarious Breaking Bad parody that reimagines the amazing hardcore series as a kids show called Fixing Good. It was created by Studio C from BYUtv, and instead of a show about the dark world of meth cooking and distribution, this story follows the adventures of Walter White and Jesse as they create crystal clear math in blue ink, and deal it to the kids that are looking for their mathematical equation fix. The video came along with the following note:

AMC's Breaking Bad for kids is a show anyone can watch. This would let Toys 'R" Us feel comfortable putting action figures back in their stores.

This is a very entertaining, clever, and well-made short. I especially enjoyed the actors' impressions of Walter and Jesse. If you're a fan of Breaking Bad, math, or both, you're going to enjoy this.

Red Band Trailer for NIGHTCRAWLER with Jake Gyllenhaal

red-band-trailer-for-nightcrawler-with-jake-gyllenhaal

Open Road Films has released a red band trailer and TV spot for Jake Gyllenhaal's incredibly twisted-looking film Nightcrawler. I've been a fan of Gyllenhaal since October Sky. He's just a talented dude, and the character that he plays in this movie is different from anything that he has ever done before. It has a very dark and disturbing vibe, and I think this could be one of the best things that he has done in his career acting-wise. He guy completely changed himself to fit this role, and I remember when I watched the first trailer I was shocked by his physical transformation into an amoral sociopathic journalist who is motivated to do what he needs to do to be successful. This is a character that I think audiences are going to love to hate.

NIGHTCRAWLER is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling -- where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.

Nightcrawler will be released in theaters on October 31st.
