We have got the cover art for Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy spin-off comic series Gamora, created by artist Francesco Mattina. Guardians of the Galaxy co-screenwriter Nicole Perlman is returning to the Marvel galaxy and will be writing the comic series, which obviously centers on the deadly assassin.

This will be Perlman's comic book debut, and it will also be Gamora's first standalone comic series. The badass character has previously only appeared as a supporting character or team member in the four decades that she has existed, so it's about time this happened. There aren't many other details to share at this time, but the new comic is set to debut in spring 2015.

The latest TV spot for Disney's Big Hero 6 features a funny Frozen Easter egg that Disney fans will definitely get a kick out of. In the spot, Baymax and Hiro are messing around with their technological abilities, and Baymax shoots a rocket that blows up a statue of Hans. That character was such a douchebag he deserves to be blown up. What better way to do that than having Baymax launch a missile at a statue of him?

With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action.

The movie was was directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), and produced by Roy Conli (Tangled). Big Hero 6 hits theaters in 3D on November 7th, 2014.

Casey Callender created this explosive piece of tribute poster art for Steven Spielberg's Duel. Spielberg made Duel in 1971, and it stars Dennis Weaver as a terrified motorist who is being tormented by a mysterious unseen truck driver. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you've got to check it out. It's not only a classic film, but it's an awesome, edge of your seat thrill ride. This poster captures the ruthless energy of the film perfectly.

Gillian Anderson Teases X-FILES 3 and Wants in on GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

X-Files is one of my favorite shows of all time. I actually just started watching the series again, for maybe my fifth or sixth time since the series ended in 2002. I loved the first movie, was a little disappointed in the second, but I would still love to see a third movie bring Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) back together for another supernatural sci-fi adventure.

I third movie has been teased and discussed for years. Creator Chris Carter and the lead actors have all expressed excited interest in returning for another movie. Carter has an idea for it that would possibly involve alien colonization. There's no confirmation on whether that is still the plan though. You can read more about that here. 20th Century Fox just needs to give the project a go!

During a recent Reddit AMA with Anderson regarding her novel "A Vision of Fire," Anderson was asked if there has been any progress on the third X-Files film. She gave a very cryptic and teasing answer.

“Uh….uh… uh… Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground.”

It's not really definitive proof that the movie is happening, but it could mean that we will be hearing something about it soon. I really do hope that something is happening with this franchise because a third film needs to exist. I'd be the happiest guy in the world if it happens.

Then at one point during the Q&A session Gillian was also asked if she would consider joining the all-female cast in director Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot and she replied,

“OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddamnit! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!”

I'm not really all that excited about this movie being rebooted, but if Anderson was cast in it I might lighten up on it a bit. No promises though. I'm just a big fan of Gillian, and I had the biggest crush on her back in the '90s when she was on X-Files

The short was created by a team of students at ISART digital, which is a prestigious visual effects and design studio in France. Enjoy!

FURY Video Interviews — Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Shia LaBeouf, and David Ayer

Fury starting Brad Pitt currently has a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a lot of reviews are saying the movie is good. But there is little to no Oscar buzz. Which would be okay for an action movie, but clearly the aspirations for the movie were higher. Sony Pictures has released video interviews with Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Shia LaBeouf, and David Ayer. I'm still excited for the movie mostly because I just love movies about World War II and this time period.

Fury rolls into theaters this Friday, October 17th.

In promotion for a new book called Star Wars: Imperial Handbook, the team at io9 was given a few propaganda posters. The book comes out tomorrow in hardcover with a special case and pin.

From the book producers who unearthed THE JEDI PATH and BOOK OF SITH comes the newest book from a galaxy, far, far away… a guide for Commanders of the Imperial Military.
The Empire has taken hold of the galaxy. Soon, with the completion of the Death Star, its control will be absolute. In preparation for this Imperial expansion, high-ranking officials from each branch of the Imperial military have set down tactical guidelines and procedures as well as collected mission reports and classified documents for all newly ascending commanders. In the wake of the Battle of Endor, members of the Rebel Alliance intercepted this top-secret instructional manual and have circulated it among their own commanders, who have added notes and commentary in the margins.

The Empire has better looking ships and uniforms than the Rebels, I also really don't like the color orange. I wonder if I would join the Empire based purely on design aesthetics.

The book sounds like it would a fun read, and you can get it at Amazon.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - New Villain, Alien Characters, and Battle Descriptions

Art from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Some new information has leaked for J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Episode VII. I guess that sign Abrams' set up with the phrase, "Loose Lips Bring Down Starships," isn't really working for some of the people that have been given access to the material from the movie.

The info comes from the website Making Star Wars, and they offer some great scene descriptions, as well as details on a villain, aliens, and other characters in the movie. The descriptions are based off of concept art that they've seen. There's really no way to authenticate the descriptions, but they do sound very plausible. I'll throw out a SPOILER warning just in case.

The first illustration they discuss includes six different rebel characters. Three women and three men that are lined up against a white backdrop. They are apparently dressed similar to the extras at Greenham Common’s rebel base set. Here's a description they offer of one of them:

"The first fighter is male, early twenties, he has Adam Driver’s haircut, longer, and kind of swooped to the side. Dark hair. He wears a mustard tunic, closed, with a black best. He has dark brown pants. He wears boots but the ankles are wrapped in white like Anakin Skywalker’s in The Phantom Menace. He looks directly at the camera, blaster in hand and at his side."

Next is a description of a character that’s obviously evil. We don’t know exactly who this is, but here's the description:

"The helmet looks like a samurai helmet. If you took Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and removed all the ornate additions from the helmet, you could have something similar. The back is kind of like Vader’s helmet but it is short, it just protects the back of the head, leaving the neck exposed. The face is covered. But you can see the eyes. This costume is Darth Vader if he were a ninja. Where the eye holes are, there is some light colored design. It has a good vibe about it. It reminds me of Shredder, a little bit of someone from Cobra in the old G.I. Joe and he has a black flowing cloak and red lightsaber which makes it look very cool."

That definitely sounds like a very interesting villainous character. It will be cool to see what he actually looks like in the film. The next bit of info offers a description of huge wickermen tree-type characters characters. Apparently they look like the Dark Elves from Thor: The Dark World, and they have General Grievous’s head and long brown tunics. Here's the description:

"The figure’s face is almost like General Grievous in spirit. White, skeletal, black eye sockets with little pin points [for] eyes. The mouth is almost like Jerry Lewis style buck teeth. Is it an apparatus?  But make no mistake, he’s scary! The face is totally white but its face looks like a mask, but it appears to be its skin, as its hands are the same color. The head is almost pointed but where a hair line would begin, there’s pointy wicker like brambles sticking straight up. The face is almost as if Satan made an army of Shy Guys from Super Mario Brothers and outfitted them with riffles.
"He wears a dirty brown poncho. His boots are sort of like a Tusken Raider’s boots. His pants are tied off. He has a bandolier with bullets and pouches strung across his chest. He has a sniper riffle weapon with a scope on it. At the end of the rifle, the barrel is almost rocket shaped. It clearly isn’t a rocket though. At his waste [SIC] a leather pouch rest covering his belt line."

The site describes more of these creatures that you can read about here. The site also reveals that there is an illustration that features a group of 15 children who are students sitting on little mats on the ground. All of the children are aliens except for one little girl. They say it reminds them of something out of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. A teacher stands before the class and two of the children have their hands raised. You can read descriptions of the characters here.

The site goes on to describe a “Special Forces Tie Fighter.” This fighter is believed to be the one that John Boyega’s character flies in the movie, and crash lands in at the beginning of the film.

"The new Special Forces TIE Fighter is very much the same classic TIE Fighter from the front. But it is black. It isn’t a dull black either, it kind of a shiny black on the body, closer to Darth Vader’s shine than the classic dark TIE Fighter dull black paint. The wings are exactly the same as the TIE wings we’ve seen in the past. The distinguishing feature on these new TIEs is the red markings near the glass cockpit. It is painted red.  If the front of the TIE was a clock, two, three, and four o’clock are red on the right. On the left, eight, nine, and ten o’clock are red in that area. The same goes for the back of the fighter."

The final description is of an epic battle that takes place in a forest setting. It includes huge pod like creatures, speeder bikes, and even Stormtroopers using flame throwers. It's a lengthy description but here are a couple excepts from it.

"This planet is inhabited by large creatures with tentacles. They are not unlike the Expanded Universe’s Orgons. But I do not believe they are one and the same, its just a good comparison. The body is more peanut shaped and the tentacles are easily 90 feet long. The body of these creatures is about 2.5 times the length of a speeder bike. The creatures travel fast with their long arms by grabbing onto the tree cover and traveling like a fast kid on the monkey bars.

"In one piece of concept art we see the trees high into the air. To the far right of the frame, two speeder bikes race for their lives! They’re being chased by two of the tentacled beasts. The bodies of the monsters are shaped like peanuts, we can only see the silhouette of these monsters under the tree cover. They have long tentacles, six in total, three on each side of its body and it use those tentacles to transverse the tree tops chasing down the speeder bikers. The bikers are racing side by side practically, but the beasts are also chasing them side by side and it doesn’t look very good for the biker closest to us in the frame. It seems he’ll likely be killed in a matter of moments."

You can read the full description here. There's a ton of really cool stuff that is going to be loaded in this movie. We are getting a ton of bits and pieces from it here and there, but it will be so cool to see how it all comes together in the final product.

Here's an amusing art series for you to check out called "Superheroes Awakening." The illustrations were created by Romain Toffoli, and each piece gives us a look at the reactions that superheroes must have when waking up in the morning when their alarms go off. The heroes featured here include Wolverine, Storm, Spider-Man, Green Lantern, and Hulk. I can see most superheroes not being the type of people that want to get up in the morning. The only one that I can think of off the top of my head that would welcome it is Captain America.

Review: Keanu Reeves' JOHN WICK

$

Keanu Reeves is back to kicking ass on the big screen, and I couldn’t be happier. His latest film, John Wick, is about an ex-hit man who after his dog — who was given to him by his now dead wife — is killed by some thugs goes on a manhunt for the man behind it all and it just so happens that the perpetrator is the son of a Russian crime king. The film's plot is incredibly simple and a little bit ridiculous but in the case of John Wick it only makes the movie better.

The film's tagline is, "Don’t set him off." I’m really glad nobody in the film follows that advice because the action starts early and is unrelenting until the final minutes of the film. It’s great seeing Reeves back in the swing of things. The film never takes itself too seriously, it knows its audience is there for a good time and it delivers.

We never see John Wick in action before he was retired, but as the film goes on and the scenes become more brutal you see why every single criminal is basically completely terrified of him. He is a force of nature that will stop at nothing.

The movie reminded me a lot of Equilibrium in its use of gunplay as being a frenetic action. John Wick’s guns are basically another appendage.

The film has a great, pulpy, barebones noir feel that supplements the somewhat slick stylized violence. The lighting in the movie is incredible, reds, blues, greens are all used in an overt way that give the film a real comic book feel.

There are also some really cool story beats that help flesh out the world of John Wick, such as a hotel operated as a sort of criminal safe haven with strict rules. There’s also a currency used throughout the film that is used only for indecent things.

Is it wrong that I want a franchise out of this film? I know we don’t need more sequels but the world of John Wick is just too great to not return to it.

I highly recommend seeing John Wick when it is released on October 24th. I know I’ll be seeing it at least one or two more times.

All We Do Is RUN! by Samuel Ho

The Walking Dead is back and already in my nightmares. (If your sleep is too sound, try adding in some flaming zombies. That’ll keep you tossing and turning for sure.) To celebrate, or synergize, the Hero Complex Gallery is hosting a show of officially liensed Walking Dead-themed art with contributions from a bunch of Poster Posse members. And, of course, it is up to the usual standard of awesomeness. All of them are fantastic, but I am partial to Samuel Ho’s All We Do Is RUN! and Glen Brogan’s* Love at First Bite because I have realized that I want the show to end with Glenn and Maggie safe and happy on some compound where they have a million babies. When (spoiler!) that dude with the baseball bat kept getting interrupted just before he knocked out Glenn, I was dying. I’ve included a few of my favorites, but you can see more at the Poster Posse’s website, or you can buy prints and see the rest of the show at the Hero Complex Gallery.

*Brogan is not affiliated with the Poster Posse, but I really like this piece, and it is part of the show.

Brad Bird on Wanting to Direct TOMORROWLAND and STAR WARS

brad-bird-on-why-he-chose-tomorrowland-over-star-wars1

Back in the days when Disney and Lucasfilm were still looking for a director to take on the task of directing Star Wars: Episode VII, Brad Bird was being considered. He is the guy who brought us such films as The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. He was in the running up until the point he decided to bow out to put all of his efforts into developing the sci-fi adventure film Tomorrowland

MTV caught up with the director at New York Comic Con this last weekend and he talked about why he took himself out of the running for Star Wars: Episode VII saying:

“We were already deeply into ['Tomorrowland']. George [Clooney] had committed to it, and we were down the road a bit. For a moment there, I thought that it would work out to do this and go right into ['Episode VII']. It was supposed to be summer of this coming year. There was no way to make that schedule and give this film the attention that it deserved, so I had to step away.”

He gave a similar answer when asked about it a year ago, but this time he reveals that there was a point where he was looking to direct both movies. So it was just a matter of bad timing. It sounds like if he could have done both he would have. He went on to say:

“I know ['Episode VII'] is going to be terrific and everything, but I’m really happy to do this film. It’s rare to do a film of size that’s original, so those opportunities can’t be missed either.”

I'm happy that he went with Tomorrowland. It's a perfect story for Bird to tell, and the movie looks like it's going to be fantastic. If you haven't seen the teaser trailer yet, make sure to check it out here. We also posted a breakdown and analysis of the trailer here. I'm sure that he'll be given the opportunity to make another Star Wars movie somewhere down the line since Lucasfilm plans on making a lot of them. I'd love to see what he would do with the Star Wars universe.

15 Fun Facts about AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON

15-fun-facts-about-an-american-werewolf-in-london

An American Werewolf in London is another one of those moves that I enjoy watching every year around Halloween. It has everything that makes for a great classic horror movie. The movie was incredibly bloody, violent, and scary, but one of the things that I liked about it most was the humor. It made me laugh, and that was all thanks to the character Jack Goodman, who was a rotting corpse with an upbeat and cheerful attitude. He's actually one of my favorite characters ever in a horror movie. I came across a lot of fun behind the scenes information about the film, and maybe there's something here that you've never heard of before. So without further ado, here are 15 fun facts about An American Werewolf in London.

  • This is the first movie to win an Academy Award for Best Makeup. The category was created in 1981. It's also the only John Landis movie to win an academy award.
  • All of the songs that were used in the film have the word "moon" in their titles.
  • Landis was inspired to write the script for the movie after an experience he had while shooting Kelly's Heroes in the countryside of Yugoslavia. Apparently while he driving along a country road he encountered a gypsy funeral. The body was being buried in a massively deep grave, feet first, while wrapped in garlic, so that he would not rise from the dead.
  • It took Landis over 8 years to get this movie into production and he wanted Rick Baker to do the make-up effects and design work. Baker got tired of waiting and decided to use what he had been developing for the film on another movie, The Howling. Landis eventually called Baker and told him, "I have the money. Let's make American Werewolf!" Baker then told him that he was already making a werewolf movie. After Landis yelled at Baker over the phone, he decided to leave The Howling in the hands of his protégé Rob Bottin and only consulted on it. This way he could work on An American Werewolf in London. Reportedly, Rick Baker's initial decision is something that Landis has never forgiven him for.
  • Studio executives wanted Landis to cast Dan Aykroyd in the role of David and John Belushi as Jack. The director refused, but that sure would have been interesting!
  • Baker and Landis had a lot of disagreements over what the final design of the werewolf should be. Baker wanted it to be a two-legged werewolf saying he thought of werewolves as being bipedal. Landis wanted a "four-legged hound from hell".
  • Actor Griffin Dunne said that one of his his biggest fears about the movie was that his mother, who was ill at the time, wouldn't be able to handle seeing him as a mutilated corpse.
  • At the close of the credits there is a congratulatory message for the wedding of 'Prince Charles' and Princess Diana. The reason it was included was because when David is trying to get arrested, he shouts, "Prince Charles is a f--got!" The film was shot months before preparations for the wedding in 1981.
  • The movie was filmed in sequence, with the opening scenes filmed first and the closing sequences filmed last.
  • When trying to call home, the telephone number that David Kessler gives the operator (516-472-3402) contains a Long Island, New York, area code. This is also a rare case in which an actual phone number is used in a movie.
  • Landis had to avoid filming any full-frontal nudity of David Naughton during the famous transformation scene and dream sequences after Naughton informed Landis that he was not circumcised. What's funny about this is that the character, David Kessler, was written as being Jewish.
  • Naughton said the transformation scene took 6 days to complete. He spent 10 hours a day getting the make-up applied, 5 hours on set, and 3 hours of makeup removal. Because the makeup took so long to apply and remove, there was only enough time for one setup a day. Baker estimated that only half an hour of footage was shot during the entire week. The last scene shot was the snout protrusion, but it did not include Naughton. They used an animatronic head.
  • Baker was disappointed by the amount of time spent shooting the face changing shot for the main transformation scene after having spent months working on the mechanism. Landis only required one take that lasted about seven seconds. Baker felt he had wasted his time until he saw the film with an audience that applauded during that one seven second shot.
  • Landis has a brief cameo in the movie near the end. He is the bearded man who gets hit by a car and thrown through the plate glass window in Piccadilly Circus.
  • Landis advised Dunne that the key to his character of Jack Goodman was that he was always to be encouraging, optimistic, and cheerful as a member of the undead, no matter what his stage of ghastly corporal decay, deterioration, and decomposition. Dunne claimed to have found this requirement to be difficult as he was seeing what he would look like as a rotting and mutilated corpse.

Below I've included the trailer for the film along with some behind the scenes videos and deleted scenes:

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES — Concept Art for Rocksteady, Bebop, and Krang

Despite the grumbles of geeks everywhere, the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was not only a hit movie, but it's also getting a sequel. I skipped the movie completely but have heard from a few people that it actually is pretty good, so I'll watch it on Blu-ray. Early in development there was a heavier alien angle, when leaked it blew up the internet and with the bad buzz that followed that portion was said to have been very diminished. A casualty to that was an appearance of fan favorite villain Krang. Thanks to The Aaron Sims Company via ScreenCrush we have concept art for Krang and the mutant duo of Rocksteady and Bebop.

Krang looks incredible and menacing. His suit looks like it could do some real damage. Rocksteady and Bebop don't seem that much different from the cartoon designs. If these three characters are in the sequel I might actually watch it in theaters.

Compelling Trailer for FOXCATCHER with Steve Carell and Channing Tatum

Everything that I've seen from Foxcatcher has been stunningly impressive. Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo all show that they are going to give stellar performances. We've got a new trailer to share with you for the film today, and like the previous trailer, it sent chills down my spine because of how intense and amazing the movie looks.

The movie is a psychological drama that was directed by Moneyball director Bennett Miller. It tells the true story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), "who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins 'coaching' a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral."

Miller talked about the film and some of the injuries that came along with making it in an interview with Yahoo, saying,

“These guys got some injuries, but I never really heard about it until we started talking about the film after it’d been finished. I keep on learning about various injuries. Like Mark at one point collar ties Channing in a scene and he kind of cuts his ear. He hits the side of his head really hard and burst Channing’s eardrum. And in the same scene, Channing put his head through a mirror and cut himself.”

They apparently went all out shooting the film and didn't hold back. Tatum added,

“It was the most suffocating sport I’d ever played. You can box and hit the bag or something like that, but you can’t wrestle if you don’t want to actually do it. It’s a thankless, painful sport.”

The movie is set to be released on November 14th, and it has Oscar written all over it.
