Mickey Mouse and Cthulhu Mashup Art - "Mickthulhu Mouse"

Here's an awesome piece of mash-up t-shirt art called "Mickthulhu Mouse." It was created by Neatoshop user BeastPop, and it combines Mickey Mouse and H.P. Lovecraft's legendary monster Cthulhu into one brilliantly cool looking creature. Here's a little description that came along with it:

Hiya, folks! In a clever scheme to better equip humanity to embrace and serve the Elder Gods, an adorable mascot was created to represent the great cosmic entity Cthulhu and sell heaps of merchandise.

That mascot was patterned on the world's most popular and recognizable cartoon character (who happens to be a mouse). If ol' Walt weren't cryogenically frozen and awaiting resuscitation in the secret bowels of "The Happiest Place on Earth", he'd be spinning in his grave like an electrified top!

Anyway, let's give a big warm welcome to Mickthulhu Mouse and embrace those initial tendrils of insanity tickling at the back of our brains. Whatta Dismal World!

If you want to but a shirt, you can do that here. It only costs $19.95.

Official BIG HERO 6 NYCC Poster by Kaz Oomori

Yesterday we posted a series of Big Hero 6 posters from Poster Posse artists working in collaboration with Disney. They promised one more poster today, and here it is! From Japanese artist Kaz Oomori comes the official New York Comic Con Big Hero 6 poster. It will be given to all fans who attend the Walt Disney Animation panel at 1 pm ET on October 9. There will also be an exclusive sneak peek and appearances by the filmmakers and cast, but you know the exclusive print of this poster is what you really want to go for. It's pretty fantastic, and I like that they went with such a strongly Japanese-influenced design given the San Fransokyo setting. If, like me, you aren't going to be at NYCC this year, the Poster Posse says they might possibly be able to get some for fans somehow. Maybe. You'll have to keep checking their cool new site for updates. You can see more of Oomori's work here.

Batman Vector Art by Orlando Arocena

This art isn’t new, but it is totally badass, and we somehow missed it when it first hit the web. We would like to redress our error. Orlando Arocena made these Batman posters for the Poster Posse and Blurppy’s 75th Anniversary Batman Tribute. They are pretty much amazing, and what’s really fun is that he also posted the steps he goes through to design his vector art. I’ve posted a couple of them here, but visit his Behance gallery to see more.

SPIDER-MAN to be Rebooted Again with SINISTER SIX? VENOM Canceled? What?!

spider-man-to-be-rebooted-again-with-sinister-six-venom-canceled-what

Yesterday a rumor broke that Marvel and Sony Pictures were discussing the possibility of bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe. It looks like there's even more to it than that. Badass Digest received some additional intel regarding the state of Spider-Man at the studio. Judging by this recent info, it seems like the studio isn't sure what in the hell to do with the character. The site offers up three new bits of information on top of the whole Marvel rumor.

First up, there has been talk that studio is looking to reboot Spider-Man with the Sinister Six movie being developed by Drew Goddard.

"Sony is going to soft reboot Spider-Man with The Sinister Six, having a new actor playing a Spidey who works with the villains The Dirty Dozen style to take down a larger threat."

Whoa! That's a pretty big deal. Spider-Man is going to be the most rebooted superhero in history. That could be kind of cool movie, but it doesn't seem like that would fit in with where they were taking the story in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The site then goes on to say that Spider-Man could be hanging up his Spidey suit for a few years.

"Sony is going to put Spider-Man on the shelf for four or five years and see if they can develop any of the side characters into their own franchises."

What's interesting about that is Spider-Man is the most interesting character in the Spider-Man universe. I can't help but think the side characters aren't really going to hit with audiences… unless that side character is Venom, but guess what?

"I've also heard that Venom is functionally dead again."

Ugh. These are all rumors at the moment, but if they are true, it's insane. If the studio doesn't don't know what to do with this character, they might as well let Marvel use him in their own universe. I think word of all this madness at Sony got back to Marvel and that's when they jumped in to take advantage of the situation and see if they could make a deal.

If Marvel does actually bring Spider-Man back into their fold I hope that they bring Andrew Garfield along for the ride. I really think he makes a great Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

THE PURGE 3 Is Moving Forward with Director James DeMonaco

The Purge: Anarchy has pulled in $91 million dollars worldwide so far, and Universal Pictures is ready to move forward with a third movie. They've even brought back James DeMonaco to write and possibly direct it. This is the same guy who made the first two movies.

The Purge: Anarchy was a better movie than I expected it to be. It seems like they have a solid franchise on their hands, and as long as the studio keeps making money, they'll keep expanding on the story, which is set in a crazy world where one night a year murdering people has no legal consequence. In a statement, DeMonaco said,

"I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become, and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise.”

Although I don't really need to see a Purge sequel get made, if it does, I'll go see it. I know not everyone likes these movies, but I was surprised by how well both of them turned out. Maybe it was because my expectations were so low. If The Purge 3 is just as good as the first two films, then everybody wins.

Striking GAME OF THRONES Fan-Made Animated Journey

This stunning fan-made Game of Thrones video was produced by BlackMeal and Baptiste Pagani. It takes us through some of the biggest and most significant events from the first four seasons of the epic HBO series. Some of the scenes include Bran's fall, the Battle of the Blackwater and the Red Wedding. The animation is really well done, and it's great watching these scenes play out in such a fun, artistic style. My only problem with the video is that it's way too short. I can't wait to see what happens in the upcoming fifth season. This is one of the best and craziest series on TV right now, and if you haven't been watching, you're missing out.

Michael Jackson's "THRILLER" to Be Re-Released in 3D

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is not only one of my favorite songs ever, but it's also one of my favorite music videos ever produced. The 1993 horror themed music video was directed by John Landis, who recently confirmed in an interview that it is currently being prepared for a 3D re-release! How freakin' cool is that?!

Here's a little background information of what led to this coming together. In 2009, several months before Jackson passed away, Landis sued his estate for 50% of the net profits from the Thriller music video. The dispute was eventually resolved, and it allowed for Landis to move forward with his 3D plans. This is what he said in a recent interview with the New York Daily News,

"That lawsuit went on for so many years, but we settled and they paid me finally. And so, actually there is something happening with Thriller. It is going to reappear in a highly polished and three-dimensional way that is very exciting on the big screen."

The director didn't really go into any other details, but apparently the short film/music video will be released sometime next year in theaters, Blu-ray and other distribution outlets.

The report also reveals that Jackson was hoping to include a 3D version of "Thriller" as part of his London show and that his estate is also considering video game ideas for "Thriller," explaining that “It could a be a dance experience or a zombie-style,shoot-’ em-up-style movie.”

On top of all that, apparently paperwork filed by the estate that suggests several other Jackson projects could be in the works such as multiple albums, Internet games, a documentary, and even a Broadway play about the King of Pop.

I'm just excited about the opportunity we will get to see "Thriller" up on the big screen.

STAR WARS: 50 Behind The Scenes Photos from RETURN OF THE JEDI

Star Wars: Return of The Jedi is the end of the middle trilogy in George Lucas' grand nine movie vision. What seemed ambitious at the time now seems standard fair for large stories when compared The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit with six films, Harry Potter with eight movies, and the Marvel cineverse with ten films and counting.

With the new Star Wars trilogy and various spin off movies we might have 1-2 Star Wars movies a year for a very long time. Looking at the behind the scenes photos of Return of The Jedi, producing so many movies simultaneously would have been insane to attempt at the time.

We've posted a few of the photos before, but most of this collection is new to GeekTyrant. Photos via JoinYouInTheSun.

New X-MEN/X-FACTOR TV Series Could Include Quicksilver

new-x-men/x-factor-tv-series-could-include-quicksilver

A report recently surfaced that FOX is developing a live-action X-Men TV series. We have an update on this project for you that confirms that it's happening and comes along with some more details one what he might see in the show. The following information comes from Film Divider

The site claims that there is a good chance that the series will be based on Peter David's acclaimed X-Factor comic run. This story arc followed Jamie Madrox, aka Multiple Man, who sets up a detective agency. That definitely seems like a solid setting for a TV series that could provide  a good amount of interesting and fun episodes revolving around the investigations that they take on.

Apparently, Fox has been struggling with which group of characters they should bring into the show though. The site says that they have a fear of bringing in a bunch of no name main characters like Marvel did with Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., but they also don't want to use big name characters because they don't want it to cut off potential movie opportunities with those characters.

It seems like they may have come up with a solution, though. They are considering bringing in Evan Peters' Quicksilver from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Peters has been back and forth doing movies and TV shows, so it wouldn't really be a step down for him to be involved with a show like this. On top of that, Quicksilver was a fan favorite in the recent X-Men movie. There's one hiccup that they would have to work around with this, though, and that's the timeline. The Quicksilver we saw in the movie was in the past, so if they followed through with this idea it would either have a period setting or we would see an older version of the character.

Personally, I would love to see a mutant detective series set in the 1970s with Quicksilver! The report also suggests that there will be a female lead in the series, which isn't really that much of a surprise as most TV series have a female lead. There's just no word on who that could be.

Also, if the studio does really go the X-Factor route, it will feature characters who are obscure enough that they wouldn't really affect any movies and are also liked well enough by fans that they would tune in to watch the show. In the end, I think Quicksilver is the key to making this show a massive success. I loved what they did with Quicksilver in Days of Future Past, and if they could bring that magic back to a TV series, I think FOX would have a very successful show.

This is all just a rumor since there is no official confirmation, but as time goes on we'll learn more.

Thai artist BanHunLek is the man responsible for sculpting this Incredible Hulk out of scrap metal. He works at a shop that is known for creating custom sculptures like this, and they mostly make them out of used car parts. He has also made several other scrap metal sculptures featuring Transformers, Terminator, Aliens, and Star Wars characters. I've included a video below the photos that features several of these other sculptures that he's made. The guy is obviously crazy talented.

Robert Downey Jr. Now Says There Are No Plans for IRON MAN 4!?

robert-downey-jr-now-says-there-are-no-plans-for-iron-man-4

What in the hell is happening with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man 4?! I swear, the guy might just be screwing around with his fans. Yesterday, the actor appeared on both Ellen and The Late Show with David Letterman. In each appearance he give completely different answers to the same question. When Ellen asked if Iron Man 4 was happening, the actor said,

"I know there's going to be more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best… We're in the middle of negotiations, blah blah blah… Yes."

But when he was asked about Iron Man 4 by David Letterman, the actor gave a completely different answer,

"There's no plans for an Iron Man 4. There's no script for Iron Man 4, but they do have a plan and I think they're gonna announce it."

So if we combine these two answers together this is what I get from the actor... He's in negotiations for another Marvel film with a big idea that will include Iron Man, but it will not be for Iron Man 4. One day these confusing answers will all make sense, but that's just what I'm hearing from him right now. You can watch him talk about it with Letterman in the video below. What are your theories about what is going on?

Wicked Cool Poster Art for THE SHINING and PSYCHO

Here are a couple pieces of horror themed poster art created by Brian Ewing that pay tribute to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. I'm a huge fan of both of these movies. They are brilliant masterpieces, and these posters are a perfect homage to them. Each features the insane main character of the story, and there are elements of the film scattered throughout the art in the background. You'll find a lot cool Easter eggs if you look really closely. I also like that it allows you to see inside the mind of a madman. The other great thing about these prints is that they have an optical illusion. You can't really see it here, but I included a video below that you can check out to see it. If you want to buy one or both of them, click here.

THE FLASH: Captain Cold Trailer, First Look at the Reverse Flash, the Premiere's Shocking Final Scene

The Flash premiered on the CW last night. After seeing the pilot in July, I'm so glad I can finally watch more episodes. Created by the same creative team behind Arrow, The Flash is a spin-off series. I love both shows, but enjoy the lighter and more hopeful tone of The Flash.

The CW has released two new trailers and one of them features Captain Cold, played by Wentworth Miller. We also have two images of Captain Cold via the Instagram account of Geoff Johns.

SPOILER WARNING — If you haven't seen the premiere don't scroll down.

At the end of last night's premiere we saw Harrison Wells stand up from his wheelchair and look at a newspaper from ten years in the future. EW was able to interview executive producer Andrew Kreisberg and ask what that's all about.

"Time travel is going to play a big part in the overall series, but one of the things that we will discover is that time is mutable. As the good Doctor says, time can be rewritten, so not everything you see on the show is necessarily what’s going to come to pass and not necessarily everything that’s happened is fixed. There’s obviously more than meets the eye when you see Harrison Wells."

There are numerous theories on who Harrison Wells really is. He's Barry Allen from the future, he's Reverse-Flash, or he's Allen's long lost brother. Odds are it's going to take a least a season to find out, if not more.

Ten 1990s Cartoons You Probably Don't Remember

$

I recently did a list of 1980s cartoons that I thought a lot of people had forgot about. Our readers really seemed to like it, and I know a lot of our readers grew up in the 1990s, so I thought I'd put together a list of animated series from that decade that you might not remember. We all have our favorites, like Batman: The Animated Series, Animanicas, X-Men, Spawn, and Gargoyles, but there are some cartoons that may have just slipped through the cracks of our minds. Just because these series are on the list doesn't mean they were bad shows. Although some of them definitely were.

Sonic Underground

Not only was this series poorly made, but it had a pretty awful theme song. The story is set in a completely different canon than any of the other Sonic the Hedgehog media. The ruler of Mobius, Queen Aleena, is overthrown by Dr. Robotnik and his robotic armies. Her kids, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic, are hidden for their protection, but they rise up against Robotnik and become the rightful rulers of Mobius once more. The series only lasted one season, and only 40 out of 65 episodes originally aired. I only watched one episode, and it was so bad I never watched it again. This was an embarrassing moment for Sonic the Hedgehog.

Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm

This series was released shortly after the first movie and the video game Mortal Kombat 3 came out. This was a show that I kind of enjoyed watching. It featured six of the game's characters, including Liu Kang, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Jax, Sonya, and Stryker. Together they made up an interdimensional task force trying to maintain balance between the realms. Raiden serves as the team's mentor, and Nightwolf as a computer techie. I think it's funny that they took an insanely violent and bloody game, and turned it into a kids series. That may have hurt the show as well, because all the kids that played Mortal Kombat wanted to see the same level of violence in the show.

The Wacky World of Tex Avery

The Animaniacs wasn't the only crazy and wacky series to come out of the '90s. There was another show called The Wacky World of Tex Avery that was extremely goofy. It had a lot of slapstick style comedy that was a throwback to the "Golden Age" of the Looney Tunes cartoons from the 1930s-1950s, and it was inspired by the style of Looney Tunes director Tex Avery. The only thing was… it wasn't funny at all. It's like they tried way too hard, and it didn't work.

Extreme Ghostbusters

Even back in 1997 Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis were trying to make Ghostbusters 3, and this Extreme Ghostbusters series was suppose to be a tie-in to that third movie that still hasn't happened. The series was doomed before it even began, though, as the only characters that returned from the movie were Egon Spengler, Janine Melnitz, and Slimer. Then there were a few younger additions to the team. The show didn't include Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz, Winston Zeddmore, Dana Barrett, or Louis Tully with the exception of a couple episodes. Egon furthered his studies and taught a class on the paranormal at a local college. When ghosts start to reappear, Egon is forced to recruit four students as the new Ghostbusters. This show could have been better than it was. I really dug the animation.

Men in Black: The Series

This show was awesome, and it ran for four seasons, but it's a show that doesn't really pop up in conversations about favorite animated series from the '90s. So just in case you have forgotten about this little gem, I added it to the list. The continuity was different from the films, but it followed the adventures of the main characters, Agent K and Agent J.  The animation was fantastic and the stories were very fun and engaging.

Dumb and Dumber: The Animated Series

Yep, the classic Farrelly brothers comedy got its own animated series, which followed the crazy adventures of Harry and Lloyd as they drove around doing anything for money. This was seriously one of the worst things to come out of the '90s. It was utterly pointless, terribly animated, and there was no real plot. The series only had 13 episodes before it was pulled off the air.

Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain

This was an Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures spin-off series that featured Pinky and the Brain as pets of the Tiny Toons character Elmyra, who I thought was one of the most annoying characters on the show. The show was awful, unfunny, and a wasteful use of the two great characters, Pinky and the Brain. I don't know what producer Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation were thinking when they thought up this piece of crap. It was cancelled after only 13 episodes.

Mighty Ducks

This series was very loosely based on the live action films and NHL team of the same name. The story revolved around a team of humanoid alien ducks from a planet called "Puckworld" that was conveniently icy so they could play hockey all the time. Not only did they play hockey, they also protected their home planet from invaders. This is a series that I never really got into. It just didn't interest me.

Super Dave: Daredevil for Hire

The show was based on comedian Bob Einstein’s character Super Dave Osborne, and it followed Dave, who, along with his assistant Fuji, must save the world from the villainous Slash Hazard. The series was cancelled only after one season, but it actually had some fun and entertaining elements to it and some good humor. Halfway through the show's initial run, voice actor Art Irizawa was asked to modify his voice for Fuji, because of all the complaints that Fox received from Asian-American groups that the character was an offensive stereotype.

Gravedale High

The series was developed as a starring vehicle for Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters, Honey I Shrunk the Kids). He lent his voice to the main character of the series which followed  the misadventures of human teacher Max Schneider, who took a job at Gravedale High, which is a school for monsters near the city of Midtown. He presides over a group of ghoulish teenagers that are 1990s teenage versions of classic movie monsters. The series also included the voices of Ricki Lake, Jackie Earle Haley, and Tim Curry. It only had one 13 episode season.

A new TV spot and poster has been released for Jake Gyllenhaal's unsettling new thriller Nightcrawler. The actor seems to have completely transformed himself into the shady character he plays in this story. This may be an incredibly dark film, but it looks great.

The story follows a character named Lou Bloom, "an ambitious young man desperate for work." While trying to find his calling in life he discovers the world of L.A. crime journalism. "When Lou learns of a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles his way into the dangerous realm of night crawling, where a police siren wail means a possible windfall, and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Nina, a local TV news veteran, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant."

The movie was written and directed by Dan Gilroy, and it also stars Bill Paxton, Rene Russo, and Riz Ahmed. The movie is set to be released on October 31st.

First Look at George Clooney in Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND and Details

first-look-at-george-clooney-in-brad-birds-tomorrowland-and-details

Disney has finally released some official images from director Brad Bird's highly anticipated sci-fi film Tomorrowland. USA Today has two photos from the movie giving us our first look at George Clooney and actress Britt Robertson (Under the Dome). There is also a piece of concept art showing us what the world of the film looks like.

Bird and screenwriter David LIndelof also talk about the film and offer up a few details on what the story entails and what we can expect to see. Bird starts off by saying,

“We begin our movie asking what did [the future] used to be? What’s good about the future and what’s scary about it? And we wrestle with those things in a slightly mythical way.”

The report goes on to say that the story centers a "Florida girl who dreams of the future while watching the launchpads of Cape Canaveral being disassembled goes exploring one day and, after landing in a bit of trouble, finds herself in possession of a mysterious pin. Touching it reveals a vision of a place that may not be a different world but simply a better one. Then it’s gone, and the quest to discover the real Tomorrowland begins."

The story was inspired by Disneyland’s futuristic attraction, but the film also suggests that Walt Disney may have stolen the idea when he caught sight of this futuristic place. Lindelof explains,

“What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you’re a Muggle. Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel.”

I absolutely love this concept! It takes the story to a whole new level of magic. the writer goes on to discuss the young hero of the story, Casey Newton, explaining, “You would think the younger you are the easier it is to be an optimist, but you are being fed a steady diet of dystopia." In regards to the character witnessing the end of NASA he continues saying, "It’s closed for business. There are no launches anymore. But she still holds a candle, she still believes in this amazing future, that things can be better.”

Lindelof doesn't stop there. He offers up even more information about the story, and what helps spark the adventure.

“There is a piece of technology in this pin, it’s the kind of old-school pin you would wear on your lapel, and when you make physical contact with it, you have the illusion of being physically transported to another world, and that’s how Casey gets her first glimpse of Tomorrowland. She is a Muggle who accidentally wanders across Platform 9 ¾ and sees something she probably shouldn’t have.”

Bird explains this little piece of technology further, saying, “At first when she experiences this thing, she’s not sure if it’s real or not. It’s kind of like being hit by a dream and not sure whether the dream was a dream or real.” This all leads her to to a man named Frank Walker, who is being played by Clooney. The character is described as a "hermit and failed inventor who knows more about Tomorrowland than he wants to tell."

Frank was a boy genius, who over the years turned into a bitter and jaded man. Apparently, part of Casey's journey to find Tomorrowland requires her to uncover the part of Frank that is still full of optimism. Bird explains why he cast Clooney in this role,

“There’s something about George. You can see the wheels turning in his eyes, and he reads as somebody who is very principled. He seems like a very pragmatic guy who also dreams, but he’s not flighty. There’s an integrity to him that you feel.”

I'm extremely excited about this movie. It sounds like it's going to be something really special, and I can't wait to see the first footage from it. The film will have a presence at NYCC, so it would be great if they showed some footage and released it online during that event.

I have so many fond memories of this classic movie, and this illustration highlights everything that I love about it. The lightning strike right down the middle is a nice, radical touch. It's strange that there are movies out there that a person can never get tired of watching. This is one those for me. I still enjoy watching it just like I did the first time I saw it, and what's cool about re-watching it so many times is that sometimes you notice stuff that you've never noticed before. Gremlins director Joe Dante is developing an interesting new film project called Ombra Amore. The filmmaker will use Rome's underground setting to tell the story, which brings together the classical Romeo and Juliet tale with werewolves, vampires, and the financial-crisis-ridden Italy. Here's a breakdown of the story from THR:

Pete is a werewolf whose pack is a crew of hotheaded financial traders responsible for Italy's current economic crisis. Maggie is a vampire whose family is a formerly wealthy aristocratic clan brought to bankruptcy by the greedy werewolves. Surrounded by other-worldly troubles, it remains to be seen whether or not their love can survive among the warring families.

It sounds like it will be better than the Twilight franchise. I'm a fan of Joe Dante's work, and I'd like to think that he could turn this story into a great movie. Hollywood is big on these supernatural love stories right now, but it doesn't mean they are all bad. One of my favorites in recent years has been Warm Bodies. Dante said,

"Rome. The Eternal City of Gods and Monsters, where a she-wolf suckled Romulus and Remus. And what could be more eternal than un-death?"

According to the report, the film has a budget of around $14.6 million, and Dante promises "a compelling new take on a classic genre." I'm curious to see how it turns out.

You've got to check out this incredible video that features aliens that have been inserted into some actual footage from World War I. The result is stunning, and it will probably be the coolest thing that you see all day. The video was created by PLAZMA, and it's called the Great Martian War. The video came along with a fun description on History.

On its 100th anniversary, The Great Martian War tells the story of the catastrophic events and unimaginable horrors of 1913-17, when Humankind was pitted against a savage Alien invasion.

With powerful and detailed First World War parallels, The Great Martian War fuses sci-fi fantasy with specialist factual history to explore the real-world tragedies and unique horror of World War One.

It's kind of eerie watching this and seeing what a war against aliens might have looked like during this time in history.
