Tom Whalen’s “Bust’d” art series is currently on display at Gallery 1988 (West). It will be on display through November 1st. 5 color screenprints and one of a kind metal prints and original sketches are also on sale through Gallery 1988’s website. Be sure to grab anything that strikes your fancy, and do it quickly! The prints are selling out left and right.

Above and below are some of our favorite movie-themed pieces from the series, which include several illustrations for Star Wars and Batman, as well as various sci-fi and horror films. Xombiedirge posted all of the gaming-themed illustrations yesterday, so be sure to check those out as well.

We’ve featured countless posters, illustrations, and commissions by Whalen over the years. You can find links to those here. While the characters in this “Bust’d” art series bare the artist’s unmistakable signature style, we’ve recently seen Whalen’s amazing versatility in a collection of infographics he did, which you can view here.

New DRACULA UNTOLD Clip, Spot, and Featurette

Dracula Untold opens in the U.S. this Friday, October 10, and today we’re going to whet your appetite with a clip, a TV spot, and a featurette, in that order. The clip shows nice guy, family man Vlad’s altercation with Ottoman soldiers threatening his son, ending with Vlad promising to find a way to protect his country. (Another GeekTyrant editor said, “Thanks, vampire Wolverine” at the end of the clip. You’ll get it once you watch it.) The TV spot focuses on his transformation into Dracula, and the featurette looks at the stunt work and fight choreography in a large battle scene that happens post transformation. There you go, I think that’s the whole movie. You’re welcome.

Dracula Untold is a part of the new Universal Monsters franchise, because every studio wants their own Marvel-style cinematic universe. It opened in several other markets this last weekend (including Fiji!), and did about $21,000,000 at the box office. The Herts and Essex Observer gave it a very tepid review, but I don’t really care. I’m a sucker for any new retelling of an old myth, fable, fairy tale, folklore, etc. Even if it ends up being SO BAD. Plus, I think Luke Evans is kind of fantastic. He was the best part in the execrable Immortals, and I would watch him in just about anything. Also, that dragon armor is amazing.

The movie was directed by Gary Shore and also stars Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon, Charles Dance, Charlie Cox, and Samantha Barks.

Young Jedi Master Yoda Art by Marco Teixeira

Artist Marco Teixeira created this badass visual of Yoda as a young Jedi master from the Star Wars universe. This image is seriously cool, and if Lucasfilm dose eventually make a standalone Yoda film, I hope that it focuses on his early years as a Jedi. That is a story I would love to see told. Of course, he was a badass old Jedi in the Star Wars movies, but seeing the iconic character kick ass in his prime would be an amazing sight to see.

Warner Bros. has released a new poster for director Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. It features an intense looking Bilbo Baggins holding Sting and ready to stand up for and defend the people he cares about.

This whole Middle Earth film series has been such an epic movie going adventure. I've loved them all, and I'm so damn excited about what this final film in The Hobbit trilogy is going to offer. This is the last movie that we will most likely ever see set in Middle Earth, and it's bittersweet that it's ending.

I think Jackson is really going to bring it home, though, and give an incredible conclusion that fans are going to love. The film will be released on December 17th. Here's the synopsis:

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.
Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.
As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Smosh Games has released an Honest Trailer for the hit video game Destiny. I finally had the opportunity to play around with the game this weekend and it was pretty badass! Now I just have to get a copy of it for myself to play whenever I want. Anyone that has engulfed themselves in this game should find this video and how they compare the game to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy hilarious. Here's the description that came along with the video:

The story telling of Halo, the scope of World of Warcraft, and the co-operative fun of Borderlands may eventually get patched in, but until then play the worlds hottest 7 out of 10 - Destiny.

In case you missed it, you can watch the Final Fantasy VII Honest Trailer that was previously released here

Daniel Radcliffe's Horns looks like it's going to be an insane movie, and it's very different from anything that we've seen from the actor before. This is a crazy role for him to take on, and we have a bizarre red-band clip from the film for you to check out today featuring the actor's character Ig Perrish getting a little kinky with his girlfriend played play Juno Temple

The film is based on Joe Hill’s best-selling novel of the same name, and centers around a character named Ignatius Perrish, who is choked up with grief after he learns of the brutal murder of his girlfriend. The people of the town in which he resides start to accuse him of her murder, and he eventually turns to heavy drinking. One morning he wakes up with a massive hangover and a pair of horns growing out of his head, and that's when things get really interesting. The horns also come along with a gift where people share the deepest secrets when they are in close proximity to him. The story is described as follows:

This rock and roll infused dark fantasy explores why bad things happen to good people and what the loss of true love can do to a man.

Horns hits theaters on October 31st. Thanks to The Playlist for for the video. The clip is not NSFW.

Do you like Star Wars? Do you like candy? Got about $25-$35 burning a hole in your pocket? We've got just the thing. Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, Darth Maul, and Jawa candy bowl holders are here just in time for Halloween.

We previously posted Yoda and then readers bombarded me with links to the other five. I've been told by readers that own these that the backs are hollow, so what you see in the front is all there is, I'm sure this could be a deal breaker for a few people.

When I posted Yoda, the prices for these things was about $20. Over the last few days the price has risen on them, as high as $35. Price gouging or maybe supply constraints might be to blame.

They are all available on Amazon, click the image of each respective candy bowl holder to view its product page.

CHILD'S PLAY Creator Wants Chucky to Team Up With Annabelle

childs-play-creator-wants-chucky-to-team-up-with-annabelle

I went and saw the horror film Annabelle this weekend, and I enjoyed. It wasn't the greatest horror movie, and it wasn't as good as The Conjuring, but it still had some really cool scary moments and I had a fun time watching it. That damn doll is creepy as hell. Could you imagine that thing teaming up with Chucky from the Child's Play franchise? Seeing these two sadistic dolls teaming up to kill would be absurd, but anything is possible in Hollywood.

Don Mancini, the creator of Chucky, is hoping that it will happen one day. In a recent interview with USA Today, he said,  "I am hoping that at some future point we have Annabelle and Chucky team up. I can see that [even] in 20 years from now."

There's one big hurdle that would need to be cleared before a movie like this happened, and that is a film rights issue. Each of the franchises reside at that different studios, so it might actually take twenty years to get through that red tape. Mancini went on to say,

"We would be into it, the only problem is that we are in different studios. That would probably be years worth of red tape to work it out. But if it all could be worked out, then yes, we're very into it."

When asked about who he thinks would win in a versus match, Mancini wouldn't really pick one side or the other, but he did say the following:

"From the trailer, Annabelle is playing her fighting cards close to her chest. From what I see, her fighting style is very subtle. I want to know if she has some secret moves… The bride of Chucky is going to be very upset if Chucky starts to stray. If I were Annabelle, I'd be watching my back."

As awesome as Chucky is, he is limited to what he can do. Annabelle has the power of Satan on her side, so I think she has the ability to take him out.  I don't think this will ever happen, but it would be an interesting movie character mashup. Who do you think would win in a fight?

The Poster Posse launched a new website today, and with it comes an official tribute to Disney’s Big Hero 6. The international artists collective has put together a series of six posters for the upcoming animated action adventure movie. However, you will only see five here, because the sixth is being saved for some kind of secret surprise that will be unveiled tomorrow on their website. The series is an official collaboration between Disney and the posse, and I really love what they’ve come up with. I like that the studio is branching out and looking for new styles and artists to promote their movies. I also like these particular pieces. It's hard to pick a favorite, so I won't! Check back tomorrow to see the unveiling of the sixth poster.

Big Hero 6 is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Big Hero 6 is directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), and produced by Roy Conli (Tangled). The film hits theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014.

BIRDMAN Clips with Keaton and Galifianakis — Featurette and TV Spots

$

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) starring Michael Keaton looks inside the mind of an actor trying to make a comeback after an iconic superhero role changed the trajectory of his career. It's crazy how much this parallels Keaton's real life. Since Batman Returns in 1992, Keaton has yet to shake off the shadow of a role he last played twenty-two years ago.

He's been able to do notable voice work in Toy Story 3 as Ken, Call of Duty: Black Ops II as Jason Hudson, and Cars as Chick Hicks. Most recently he's returned to action films in Need for Speed and RoboCop. The last piece he needs now is a critically acclaimed film, and Birdman might just fit the bill.

I've called the trailer a mind trip and the movie looks even more so. I can't wait to see if Keaton has made a triumphant return as a comedic and dramatic actor.

FOX Searchlight has released two clips — one that features Keaton's character talking to the foreign press and another with Keaton and Zach Galifianakis. Also released is a featurette called "Levels Upon Levels," which is about the layered insanity of the whole movie. Finally, a new TV spot the features the creepy Birdman voice in Keaton's head.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) opens in limited release October 17th (USA).

Winter is upon us, and things are supposed to get really cold in certain parts of the country. I'm in California at the moment, and we are still going through summer, but it will eventually start to cool off. At least I hope it does! Anyway, for anyone looking for a badass geeky hoodie, look no further. Think Geek has a Medieval Knight Hoodie just waiting for you to buy for only $79.99. As you can see in the photos, it has got a really slick design that all you Larpers out there would really appreciate. This isn't the first knight armor hoodie we've posted, but I think this is the best one that I've seen. You can see the previous hoodie we posted here. I included a description of the hoodie and the specs for it below the photos.

Oyez! Oyez! Lords and ladies, ThinkGeek, ye olde Internet shoppe, is proud to announce the arrival of the Medieval Knight Hoodie. Made from cotton of the fields and an alchemical substance known only as "polyester," this spectacular raiment transforms an ordinary subject into a knight of the realm, with all the privileges thereunto belonging (ed. note: that'd be none in America in this day and age). Protects the wearer from the dreaded Draft of Doom, the cause of many a plague upon our cities. Allows one to blend in at the Renaissance festival. Makes grocery shopping that much more of a combative experience (what? you don't joust with your shopping carts?). Oops. We dropped our Elizabethan accent back there somewhere. Let's start again.
Check out this cool Medieval Knight Hoodie. With the convenience of a full-zip hoodie, it makes its wearer look like he or she is decked out in plate armor. The spaulders and visor are removable with snaps. The "plates" are reinforced with interfacing. There are embroidered "etched" designs on the helm, spaulders, and lames. And because bathing and automated washing machines are two reasons why our nose is glad we live in the modern world, it's machine washable. Just snap the visor and spaulders off before you toss it in. So arm yourself against the cold with the Medieval Knight Hoodie today.

Is Marvel in Negotiations With Sony for SPIDER-MAN?

$

is-marvel-in-negotiations-with-sony-for-spider-man-right1

There's some potential awesomeness that might be brewing between Marvel and Sony Pictures. According to HitFix, which is a reliable site when it come to this kind of information, the two studios have been talking about the possibility of bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe! This is something that me (and a ton of other fans) have been wanting to see happen for a long time, and now it looks like there's a chance that it might. This is so freakin' exciting, but I'm trying not to let my excitement get the best of me. After all, this is only a rumor, but here's what the site says,

"While I can't get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I'm hearing that there are some very cool Spider-Man plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom's minds. Will it work out? I don't know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it's happening. What seems clear from what I've heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again."

Earlier today we reported that The Avengers 3 might not include some of our favorite superheroes, including Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk. The rumor also suggested that we might see a new group of superheroes in the movie, and that story would lead to another film that could include all of these superheros teaming up for something epic.

Spider-Man could very well play into this plan, which would be kind of mind-blowing. Before you brush this off as something that won't happen, Marvel still holds the rights to the Spider-Man merchandising, so they don't want to see the Spider-Man movies fail, which a lot of people say happened with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So Marvel wants to step in and help bring Spider-Man to his full potential, and if anyone can do that, it's them.

I really hope that this is happening, and if it is, I have faith that Marvel will actually be able to pull it off and make make some more movie magic.

Updates on ARROW and THE FLASH, Both Premiering This Week

This week sees the premiere of The Flash and the return of Arrow, both on the CW. The Flash airs tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 7), and I am so excited for you guys to see it. I really loved the pilot, so I can’t wait to see where they take things from there. To get you pumped up for it, here is another promo for it. This one is called “Destiny,” and to be honest, I have no idea if it has any new footage in it. Between seeing the pilot and all the previous trailers and promos, I cannot for the life of me remember what has been officially released and what hasn’t, but it's full of entertaining footage. On top of the promo, Comic Book Resources spoke to series star Rick Cosnett (Detective Eddie Thawne) and got some hints at what may lie ahead.

"I think that's going to be the intriguing thing to see, whether he's the white or the black sheep of this family of Thawnes. I think the producers are up to do a lot of twists and to really shock the fans, especially in terms of the first season. The intriguing thing is, "Who are these people, really?" We're trying to show the humanity of them, in social situations and in the present day, I think. It's also quite funny, which I think is going to be surprising to people. It has little gags and everything. It's epic, but it's also human and funny."

The Thawne family also spawned Professor Zoom, aka Reverse-Flash, a supervillain with superspeed, but he is usually from the future. It’s possible that Detective Thawne will become the Reverse-Flash, or maybe an early forerunner. From the pilot, we do know that supervillain or not, Det. Thawne and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will be at odds over something, though I won’t say what that is. Cosnett also mentioned Cobalt Blue, Barry’s evil twin who was raised by the Thawnes, leaving fans wondering if we’ll see him on the show this season.

"It was fascinating to me, and I think the family lineage -- they're quite wealthy and they're from this old money world of deep, deep dark secrets. It's also fascinating with the whole Barry's twin [storyline], and who that is and who it's going to become. You also not only have the Reverse-Flash, you also have the Wally [West] kid, and we've had Wentworth Miller on the show and all sorts of amazing guest stars like Robbie Amell already. Things are turning over quite quickly, and I think you're going to see some people in other suits pretty soon."

On the Arrow front, hot on the heels of last week’s clip comes this new clip from the premiere, which is called “The Calm.” It is not calm in any way. Calling it “The Calm” is like calling a large man Tiny. In the clip, the Arrow (Stephen Amell) battles Werner Zytle/Count Vertigo (Peter Stormare) in a tattoo parlor. Count Vertigo’s abilities are a little embellished in this version, and the resulting fight is… well, watch the video. I will say that Amell’s very important workouts have been paying off. Arrow is back for a third season on Wednesday, October 8.

Artist James Hance has created this extremely happy Star Wars illustration featuring Princess Leia and Han Solo. The piece is called The Princess & The Smuggler, and it has to have the power to make fans smile. I don't see how you could look at this and not smile. These two characters don't smile enough in the classic movies, but when they do…  it's magic.

Will Obi-Wan Kenobi Get His Own Film Trilogy?

will-obi-wan-kenobi-get-his-own-film-trilogy

As you know, we've seen a ton of Star Wars: Episode VII rumors hit the net over the past few months. We have a new Star Wars movie rumor for you today, but it doesn't have anything to do with Episode VII. As you know, Lucasfilm and Disney are also ion the process of developing a few standalone movies, and one of those has been rumored to be about for Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Thanks to a website called cinelinx, we have an intriguing rumor to share with you. According to them, the studio is not only developing one Kenobi movie, but a full on trilogy! The site's "trusted" source revealed the following information and explanation:

"First up, they are not talking about an Obi-Wan spin-off movie but a trilogy of Obi-Wan movies. I need to stress that these movies are not connected. They aren't part of a story arc but 3 separate Obi-Wan adventures set between Episodes III and IV."

That information isn't too hard to swallow. After all, the studio plans on eventually releasing two or three standalone movies a year. Just like Marvel's Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor are getting multiple films, it makes sense that the characters they chose to give standalone films too will also have multiple movies. So Yoda, Boba Fett, and Han Solo could also possibly get multiple movies.

The site then goes on to reveal what the three movie ideas for Kenobi could be, and who might join in on his adventures.

"One set completely on Tatooine and two where Obi-Wan travels elsewhere in the Galaxy.

"Qui-Gon Jinn is very much present in these stories.  So too is Owen Lars. Several characters from the Clone Wars T.V show would make an appearance.  There would be flashbacks to Obi-Wan fighting in the Clone Wars."

I'm really curious to see what comes out of all this. We still have a very long way to go, but I could easily see the character getting three or more movies depending on how well they do at the box office. There are plenty of cool stories that can be told about him. I could also see the studio brining in other familiar and interesting characters, and maybe even crossovers with some of the other movies, just like Marvel is doing.

This is just rumor and some speculation, but Lucasfilm is looking to expand this universe in a big way, so I wouldn't be surprised if this all happened.

1980s Geek Culture Art - The 80's Last Supper

1980s-geek-culture-art-the-80s-last-supper

I'm a product of the 1980s. I was a kid in that era, and I absolutely loved it. I look back on those years, and there's so much radical stuff that kids of that time could enjoy. There was a lot of ridiculousness as well. I have no idea what the world was thinking in terms of fashion, but the TV shows, cartoons, and movies were amazing.

Artist Bill McConkey created an amusing illustration that features several iconic pop-culture characters from the '80s. He called it The 80's Last Supper, and it was obviously inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's The Last Supper, only much geekier. I also like that there are movie posters for other classic '80s movies hanging up on the wall.

Fox May Be Developing a Live-Action X-MEN Series

The same sources that brought Bleeding Cool the news of a Supergirl TV series being developed is back with some more interesting superhero TV intel. They say that FOX is currently "deep in development" on a live-action X-Men TV series. There were no details given on what this series will entail, or which characters they will use, but maybe there will be some kind of reveal at New York Comic Con.

It makes sense that there would eventually be an X-Men series. After all, genre TV is booming with shows such as The Flash, Arrow, Constantine, Gotham, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Defenders, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Powers, The Strain, The Walking Dead, Daredevil, and Supergirl. I'm sure there will be even more to come.

Over the years we've seen several X-Men animated series such as X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men: Evolution, and Wolverine and the X-Men. It was only a matter of time before a live-action series was developed. This is all just a rumor until there's actual confirmation, and it will be cool to see what becomes of it. Will it be a standalone series separate from the films? Or could be be connected to the films but with different characters? What would you like to see in an X-Men series?

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Secrecy Poster - "Loose Lips Bring Down Starships"

Producer Frank Marshall recently visited the Pinewood Studios set of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII in England, and he Tweeted a photo of a poster that has been put up for anyone who has visited the set. It warns visitors not share any spoilers with the rest of the world with the phrase, "Loose Lips Bring Down Starships." Unfortunately, given the insane amount of leaked information, the simple propaganda poster doesn't seem to be working. The photo came with the caption,

"Excited to be here at Pinewood, but mum's the word..."

I would absolutely love to visit the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. Visiting the set of a Star Wars movie would be a dream come true for me, but seeing the movie up on the big screen in its completed form will be gratifying enough.

BETTER CALL SAUL's Funky Music Video Promo - "The Song"

AMC has released a strange and amusing new promo spot for their Breaking Bad spin-off series Better Call Saul, which fans seem to be very excited about seeing. I thought this spot was great because it's in the form of an upbeat and catchy original country western song with lyrics written by series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. It was performed wonderfully by Junior Brown. It's extremely entertaining, and fans are going to love it. The video also includes footage from the series.

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “Criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.

The series is set to premiere sometime in 2015. Enjoy the video.
