The rights to Tom Hanks' classic 1988 comedy Big have been picked up by FOX, who will be adapting it into a TV series. The Wrap reports that the network will be developing it into an "event series" that will be loosely based on the film, and that Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce (Enlisted) are set to write and executive produce the half-hour long comedy.

According to the report, the series will "explore what it means to be an adult and what it means to be a kid, and how in today's world those two things are more confused than ever."

Big is one of my favorite Hanks comedies. I'm not really sure what to expect from a series like this, but I do hope that it turns out to be good.

Aidan Gillen, who plays Littlefinger in Game of Thrones, is set to play the villain in Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, which is the sequel to The Maze Runner that 20th Century Fox recently announced. The actor also played a major part in HBO's The Wire. He will be joined by Breaking Bad co-star Giancarlo EspositoRosa Salazar, and Mud actor Jacob Lofland.

I thought The Maze Runner was an awesome movie, and I'm glad that the studio is moving forward with the next installment of the James Dashner book trilogy. The story picks up after a small group of teens escape a deadly maze. The sequel picks up with them on the run in a wasteland of Earth that has been ravaged by solar flares.

According to THR, Gillen will play Janson, who becomes the main antagonist of the Maze Runner books. He is also referred to as Rat-Man. Salazar will play Brenda, "a character who runs around with another group of teens (as that group's lone female), who ends up paired with O'Brien's character when both end up on the run in tunnels underneath a city." Lofland is set to play Aris Jones, who is a significant character from second book. "After The Gladers escape the maze, they meet Aris and discover his connection to the maze and the people who built it." Esposito will play will play Jorge, described as the leader of a group known as the Cranks.

The movie is due to begin shooting at the end of October.

I don't know where this photo was taken, or who the people in these costumes are, but this is just too damn adorable. I came across the photo over on Geeks Are Sexy, and it features Iron Man giving Iron Totoro a big ol' hug. This was just too awesome not to share. These two need to team up for some kind epic adventure in far away magical land.

RUSH HOUR Will Be Adapted Into an Action Series

Director Brett Ratner and producer Arthur Sarkissian have teamed up again to produce a TV series based on the action comedy film franchise Rush Hour. The series is set up at Warner Bros. TV, and it will be an hourlong show on CBS.

The series will be written by Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence and showrunner Blake McCormick. According to Deadline, the Rush Hour series will stay close to the concept of the first film in the franchise. That will include a by-the-book Hong Kong police officer, who was played by Jackie Chan in the movies, who is assigned to a case in Los Angeles, where he’s forced to work with an arrogant LAPD officer — originally played by Chris Tucker — who is not interested in working with a partner.

I'm not really all that interested in seeing anything that Ratner's name is attached too. I haven't been impressed with anything he's done in years. I'm not expecting much from the series, and I can already see it maybe lasting one season if it gets a full season order. It is interesting though that we are seeing a lot of big feature films being adapted for the small screen though. It's a trend that I'm sure will continue.

Machinima Prime has released the first episode of a new comedy web-series they've started called "Dr. 1-Up." Here's a description of what the series will be about:

The world's most popular video game characters are not exactly known for leading a healthy lifestyle. Smoking, eating unhealthy, and fighting some of the nastiest "bosses" of all-time can lead to significant illnesses and injuries. Enter Dr. 1Up. The title character and star of an all-new original comedy series, Dr. 1Up is there to make sure that the stars of the gaming universe will be healthy in time for the launch of the next game in the series...or is he?

Each episode will feature a big character in the video game world, including Master Chief (Halo), Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) and Nathan Drake (Uncharted), and Raiden (Mortal Kombat), as we watch each character's ailment get treated by the doctor.

In this first episode, "Nurse Janet (Bree Essrig) concocts a plan to get Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us, to stop whistling; it involves giraffes. In the exam room, Dr. 1Up tries to break the difficult news to Solid Snake that his body is positively riddled with tumors from smoking, but Snake's inability to stay visible for more than 10 seconds brings 1Up to the breaking point."

Check it out and let us know if this is a series you'll continue to watch.

AVENGERS 3 May Not Include Captain America, Thor, or Hulk

avengers-3-may-not-include-captain-america-thor-or-black-widow

Over the weekend a very interesting rumor hit the internet that suggests all of the main characters from the Avengers team that we've come to know and love, including Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow, will not be involved with Avengers 3

Apparently the success of Guardians of the Galaxy helped the studio realize that their brand is big and popular enough that they can introduce secondary characters and turn them into big stars. Phase three of Marvel will introduce audiences to characters such as Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, maybe Mrs. Marvel, and a few others. Will these characters be taking over for the Avengers?

Last week a rumor hit that Marvel would be splitting Avengers 3 into two movies, and according to Badass Digest, this could be true in a way. They explain, "Marvel isn't splitting Avengers 3 into two movies, but they are planning Avengers 3 as the springboard to... something else. And they're going to use their biggest characters in that something else, keeping them out of Avengers 3."

All of the secondary characters that will be introduced in phase three could come together and prove their badassery as a team in Avengers 3 without the help of the usual suspects. It may even help in setting up spin-off movies for other characters that could be introduced in the movie. Of course, they will most likely keep Iron Man because Robert Downey Jr. is already contractually obligated to appear in Avengers 3. But it could serve as a launching pad for new characters to take over since a lot of the actors' contracts will be up after the movie.

The report goes on to say how easy it would be to write these characters out. "Cap will be very busy with the fallout of Captain America 3, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Steve Rogers give up the shield at the end of that movie. Thor 3 is going to wrap up all the Asgardian drama, and could very well end with Thor forced to sit on his father's throne. Black Widow is easy to write out on another adventure. Hulk... well, Hulk's planet of residence could well be up in the air by 2018 or so."

The site then offers up some intriguing speculation that I could see happening. They say, "What if the big guns sit out Avengers 3 so that Marvel can bring them in for a crossover movie? A huge, all-franchise crossover that could be called Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet or Marvel's Secret War? What if Avengers 3 isn't the conclusion of the Thanos story but just the spark that ignites it in the massive crossover film that brings all the Marvel characters — TV included — together in one film? That's the sort of next-level thinking we expect from the House of Cinematic Ideas at this point."

Reading that made me swell with excitement. That would be incredible if it happened, and I seriously hope that it does! If it doesn't, I'm sure Marvel is planning something equally awesome. We still have a long way to go before any of this is set in stone. It's just something that is being discussed at the moment. If they do move forward with something like this, Marvel will redefine the way blockbuster movies can be made… again.

Wonder Woman Selfie Comic Cover Art

Selfies have become such a big fad that even DC Comics can't avoid them. Artists Terry and Rachel Dodson created this variant cover for Wonder Woman #34 featuring the heroine taking a silly selfie of herself. I also included a few concept sketches the artists did when they were trying to come up for the idea of the cover. The final product turned out to be really fun and goofy, which is what they were going for.

DEADPOOL Will Be a Part of the X-MEN Cinematic Universe

One thing that wasn't made clear when Fox announced their Deadpool movie was whether the character would be a part of the X-Men cinematic universe. It seemed to me like it would be the kind of movie that would stand on its own, but it doesn't sound like that is the case at all. X-Men: Apocalypse writer and producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed otherwise.

"There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it's part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox."

It's going to be really interesting to see how exactly they fit him in with these X-Men movies, especially after the studio completely ruined his character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The original script for the Deadpool movie is detached from the main X-Men movie universe, and it even makes jokes at the expense of the Wolverine Origins film. Tim Miller is directing the movie, and Ryan Reynolds is expected to reprise his role after eight years. It's really exciting to know that a Deadpool movie is happening. I really hope the make it right, and to do that, they need to break the fourth wall.

Deadpool is set to be released February 2nd, 2016.

Infographic — The Ultimate List of Superhero Lairs

$

We all have a favorite superhero hangout. As kids, we always loved the Batcave, especially its ’60s era, less powerful than an iPhone, bleepy-blorppy computer. And that red phone! Nothing was cooler than the red phone that only called one number. That’s utility right there. But recent movies have expanded the pool of great lairs, and now we are spoilt for choice. How will we decide which one is best?

For some reason that we don’t quite understand, UK blinds emporium Terry’s Blinds has sponsored or commissioned the creation of this bitchin infographic that breaks down ten superhero hideouts to their component parts. None of them include blinds. They also hand out some senior superlatives titles to the various lairs, ranking them from Easiest (Spider-Man) to Most Ancient (Wonder Woman) to Most Alien (maybe not who you would think) to Most Gothic (definitely who you would think). As we said, we aren’t sure what any of this has to do with blinds, but we don’t really care either. We’re just off to the liquor store to buy some ice to recreate our favorite. Anyone know where we can pick up some alien crystal?

CONSTANTINE - New TV Spot and Poster Art

NBC has released a new poster and TV spot for their awesome-looking DC Comics series Constantine. The promo features even more new footage from the show, and the poster was created by artist Gene Ha, who has also done art for Batman, Green Lantern, and Justice League. It shows the title character caught in-between the forces of Heaven and Hell with Angelica Celaya's "Zed" and Michael James Shaw's "Papa Midnite" behind him. I hope this series is a big hit with audiences.

Seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight – or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her.
Before long, it’s revealed that Liv's "second sight"-an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences–is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

The series is set to premiere on Friday, October 24th and will air on Fridays at 10 PM on NBC. Thanks to the L.A. Times for the heads up.

FURY — "Recreating Hell" Featurette, "Sherman Tiger Fight" Clip, & 38 Photos

$

Set in April 1945, Fury attempts to recreate the final push in the European Theatre of World War II. The movie stars Bard Pitt as Sergeant "Wardaddy," commander of a Sherman tank crew. A new featurette (via Sony UK) titled "Recreating Hell" is about about the lengths the productions staff went to in order to create a period authentic movie, using real clothing and tanks from World War II.

A clip titled "Sherman Tiger Fight" (via IGN) is about a minute and half long and shows how out matched a Sherman is versus a Tiger tank. The clip is riveting stuff and obviously cuts before things get too interesting.

World War II films that honor and recreate the sacrifices of America's greatest generation is mighty inspiring. Both my grandfathers fought in the Pacific Theater of World War II as American allies for the Philippines. I haven't seen many films that capture theater of war, maybe someday the studios will tap those untold stories.

Fury opens in theaters October 17th (USA).

doctor-who-invades-minecraft-on-xbox-360-trailer

My two little girls have been obsessed with Minecraft lately. They spend all of their spare time playing that game and building their own worlds. I never thought I'd see them get into something like Minecraft, but they love it. They show me the stuff they build and I can't help but be impressed with what their imaginations come up with.

The world of Doctor Who has now been introduced to Minecraft, exclusively on Xbox 360. More than 50 characters from the epic sci-fi series will be made available, and it all starts this week with Skin Pack 1. That pack will include characters such as Doctors One, Four, Six, Nine, Eleven and Twelve, The War Doctor, Clara Oswald, Rory Williams, the Weeping Angels, the Snowman, and the Smiler. You can get the DLC now for only $2.99.

Check out the trailer below thanks to Xbox Wire.

David Lynch Bringing TWIN PEAKS Back to Life!

Director David Lynch is set to bring his classic series Twin Peaks back to life! He and co-creator Mark Frost are currently writing the revival, and Lynch is planning to direct all nine episodes that will air on Showtime in 2016.

If you haven't watched Twin Peaks yet, it's a show that you need to put on your must see list. It's a very strange and incredible series that is fantastically entertaining in every aspect. The series was definitely ahead of its time with its surreal style of storytelling. Over the years, the murder mystery thriller has gained a cult following. If you haven't already, it's about time you joined the cult.

The premiere of the new series will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the show’s death after two seasons on ABC in the early 90s. According to Variety, the new series will be set in the present day and "continue storylines established in the second season. Sources emphasize that the new episodes will not be a remake or a reboot but will reflect the passage of time since viewers last checked in with key characters."

That's awesome. As a fan of the series, that's exactly what I want to see happen. I never imagined that we'd see Twin Peaks return like this, but it is, and it's so cool! I can't wait to see what these characters are up to after all these years.

All of HARRY POTTER Summarized In Massive Comic Strip

Harry Potter is one of the most amazingly well-crafted stories of all time. It's a whole world that was fully conceived by J. K. Rowling. Not since Lord of The Rings has a book series become an utter cultural phenomenon. It's left a mark on a whole generation who grew up reading, and then watching, the story of Harry Potter unfold.

Artist Lucy Knisley has summarized the epic seven book series in a a gigantic one sheet comic strip. Each book is visually summed up in two rows with about ten to twelve panels per row. This is clearly the work of a superfan. I can't even imagine how long it would take to do this.

At the time of writing, the artist's website seems to be down. So I'm not sure if prints of this work are available.

FANTASTIC FOUR Updates - Containment Suits and X-Men Crossover

$

I have a couple little updates regarding Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot to share with you today. One of them is about the suits that the characters will wear in the movie. The other addresses the notion of possibly seeing a crossover with Fantastic Four and X-Men. While talking to Good Morning America, Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan said,

"It's a new look. We are all in containment suits. It's gritty. It's a gritty film. The costume process definitely took some time to get in and out of that thing, especially since I was bulking up. It was a little more snug during filming. We got through it man. It was a process, but we did it. It was hard work. I'm really excited about it, everyone is really happy. We worked hard for three months, put a lot of time into it. The script is very grounded and relatable to everybody, as much as you can. You really get a chance to grow with these characters. It's an origin story. You get to discover these abilities. These disabilities rather and grow with them."

I'd love to see what these containment suits look like. I'm sure Trank and his team of concept artists came up with something really cool. A lot of fans seem to be turned off by what they've heard about this movie, but I will remain optimistic. I want it to be cool!

In a separate interview with ComicBook.comX-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg talked about the possibility of the Fantastic Four crossing over with the X-Men films.

"I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, and I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there’s some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility."

Nothing is official or set in stone, but it seems like they would do it if they could find a way to make it work. Jordan plays Johnny Storm in the movie, while Miles Teller is Reed Richards, Kate Mara is Sue Storm, Jamie Bell is Ben Grimm, and Toby Kebbell is playing Victor Von Doom. The Fantastic Four is set to be released on August 7th, 2015.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 5 Will Take the Group to the City

We're in for a really crazy ride when The Walking Dead Season 5 returns to AMC on October 12th. We don't know exactly where this next season is going to take these characters or what they are going to have to go through, but thanks to producer Gale Anne Hurd, we do know that it will take the group back to the city environment.

Hurd recently told EW that Season 5 will be more of an urban setting, and will feature a place ominously known as The City Of The Dead.

"The show has spent a lot of time in primarily rural settings. But you’re never going to find the cure to the zombie apocalypse in the sticks. Now with them embarking on a mission, they have to reenter what we call the City of the Dead."

Hurd goes on to say that the stakes will be raised due to the new situations these characters find themselves in, saying,

"There are many cities of the dead that they’ll have to encounter to complete their mission. So not only does it make it more difficult because of the number of walkers, but also there are more hiding places in which human antagonists can lurk. So, however stiff and difficult the stakes have been up until this season, now they’ve been raised even further."

The mission is obviously to get the character Eugene Porter to Washington D.C. to help find a cure for the zombie epidemic that plagues the world. This will be the first time in a long time that a city will be featured in the series. I am so excited for this show to return!

Chainsaw artist Griffon Ramsey sculpted the character Groot from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy out of a piece of wood. The result is stunning! I love seeing all the different talents that people have to offer the world, and it's so cool that someone thought chainsaw sculpting would be a great way to express themselves. I especially like it when they use those talents to create geeky art like this. We have a video showing the artist creating Groot from a block of wood, and this is what she says about it:

"Watch me sculpt Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy using chainsaws and get to know a little more about my background in this video. It was such a fun piece to make, in spite of the challenges that arose during the process."

BATMAN V SUPERMAN — Ben Affleck Talks About Zack Snyder's Visual Talent

Ben Affleck was interviewed by the The Inquirer while promoting David Fincher's Gone Girl. Questions obviously veered to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Affleck shared a few bits of info.

Affleck on working with Zack Snyder:

"Zack has more energy than anybody I know. He works as hard as anybody. He’s in the gym in the morning and storyboards every single shot, which is a huge amount of work. So everybody knows what’s going on. He’s got enormous visual talent. I stand there and he sets up shots. We do the blocking and…I see a shot from Zack and I think, I never would have thought of that.
"He is so visually inventive so that’s quite pleasant. Action movies take a lot of days and involve a lot of stunts and visual effects—that combination and the story has its own challenges but I’m enjoying it.
"What I’ve learned from Zack in the movie are the cutting-edge visual effects—what we’re able to do now and how you integrate that into a story. He’s very gifted."

Being a talented director himself, I wonder how much Affleck is learning from directors like Snyder and Fincher. Rumor is that Affleck will direct and star in The Batman solo film in 2019.

I doubt Fincher would ever do a superhero film, but if he did, what hero would you like to see him do? My vote would be Spawn.
