Extraordinary Psylocke and Ms. Marvel Cosplay

0
0

These costumes by Valeriya Darkelf (Psylocke) and Anna Kathhrine (Ms. Marvel) are really well made. I've seen so many badly tailored version of these costumes. But Darkelf's and Kathhrine's costumes are very highly tailored — no gaps and no overstretched material.  With great lighting and photography by Eva, these cosplay photos look really great. Both these cosplayers are from Russia, which seems to be having a cosplay boom.

Frightening New Trailer for THE BABADOOK

"Don't let him in!"

IFC Midnight has released another full trailer for for their terrifying horror movie The Babadook. I loved this flick, and I can't wait to see it again. This is a movie that I'll enjoy showing people that have never seen it before, and I'll watch it as much as I have to. I'm going to have to throw this movie into the list of Halloween movies that I watch every year. Too bad this isn't coming out until after Halloween.

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her 'out of control' 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook' turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son's behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

The movie hits theaters and VOD on November 28th. You can read my review of the movie here.

This is the LEGO AT-AT " Friendly Pet Taxi Service" created by Tyler Sky. The build is obviously meant to entertain little girls, and now my kids want one. I've really got to stop showing them stuff like this that I find on the internet. The photos came along with the following caption:

After the Galactic Civil War Stephanie & Andrea picked up this Army surplus AT-AT for dirt cheap, and retro-fitted it as Heartlake City's latest Pet Taxi service.

INTERSTELLAR — 6 New Photos

Today we have six new photos from Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. These photos come from Empire via CBM. I'm not sure why they have a strange watermark, but it looks like they come from a mobile app. There is one really interesting-looking behind the scenes photo that looks like a piece of a space ship.

Interstellar lands in theaters November 7th (USA).

Rock Star-Lord's Look in Replica Jackets for Men and Women

0

I think we all walked out of Guardians of the Galaxy thinking one thing: Damn, I wish I had a jacket like Star-Lord’s. Okay, maybe that wasn’t our first thought, but Star-Lord’s jacket was pretty much amazing, and if you’re looking to cosplay the character — or just be as cool as him — the jacket is probably the hardest part of the costume to find. Luckily, our eagle-eyed friends at Fashionably Geek found these replicas from New American Jackets. They are vegan leather, and they are really well-cut. Even more amazing is the fact that they make a women’s version as well, so if you want to crossplay the character — or just be as cool as him — you don’t have to drown in a bulky, oversized coat. You can pick up the men's jacket here for $140, or the women's jacket here for $39. There's even free shipping.

2 GAME OF THRONES Stars Join PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES

Game-Of-Thrones-S4Ep7-Mockingbird-Review-Lena-Headey-as-Queen-Cersei-Lannister-looking-at-the-mountain.jpg

Game of Thrones stars Charles Dance and Lena Headey are the two latest actors to join the cast of the big screen adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. They join the previously cast Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcoate, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, Matt Smith, and Suki Waterhouse.

The story follows the tangled relationship between lovers from different social classes in 19th-century England, and things become even more overly complicated when there's an outbreak of zombies. The mashup book that the film is based on is absolutely ridiculous, and it should make for a very entertaining flick.

Screen Gems also recently acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the movie. Natalie Portman is a producer on the film, and it's being directed by Burr Steers.

1A4STUDIO has given us another entertaining 60-second animated speedrun retelling of a classic movie. In this one they tackle Stanley Kubrick's mind-bending sci-fi movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey. I always enjoy seeing what they come up with for these, and this one turned out really well.

DRACULA UNTOLD Featurette - A Look Inside

Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for the incredible looking film Dracula Untold. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about this project, but it seems to have the makings of a great movie. The featurette includes plenty of new footage along with the cast and crew talking about the story and characters.

The Gary Shore-directed movie stars Luke Evans, and it was inspired by the actual historical events that revolve around Vlad the Impaler. This movie, however, gives audiences a supernatural twist to the origin story of how Vlad became the legendary vampire Dracula.

The movie hits theaters on October 10th.

BACK TO THE FUTURE — Opening Scene Documentary by Jamie Benning

Jamie Benning has been creating what he calls "Filmumentaries" which are "making of" documentaries about films. Thanks to First Showing, we have the newest one about the opening scene in Back To The Future. In it, he interviews special effects supervisor Kevin Pike. The iconic long take that opens the film is broken down, and some fun facts are shared. This is only part one of a larger project. If it follows the format of Benning's previous documentaries the whole thing should be a couple hours long.

Make sure to checkout Benning's other documentaries about the Star Wars trilogy, Jaws, and Raiders of The Lost Ark.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD and XV - Moving In The Right Direction

Square-Enix had a nice showing at TGS this year, and to top it off, it was actually from its biggest (in name, not necessarily in sales recently) franchise, Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, the remaster of the Japan only PSP game, is looking sharp, and features a nation at war feel that Final Fantasy XIII only scratched the surface of. If you've been keeping up with the XIII universe, there will be some recognizable lore, but Type-0's premise is much more intriguing. I love games and movies alike that center on a small band of heroes or soldiers that face impossible odds, i.e. Magnificent 7, The Dirty Dozen, The Untouchables, and Harry Potter — you know, when Voldemort  attacked Hogwarts and all the students stood against him? Maybe that is a stretch, but oh well.

Here is the official synopsis.

Step into the fray as Class Zero, a group of fourteen students from an elite military academy whose country is attacked by an aggressive neighboring Empire. Using the powerful abilities and magic of all fourteen characters in fast-paced action RPG combat, players must face the brutality and injustices of war to uncover the secrets of its genesis.

Peep the trailer above for a closer look, but for me it hits all the right notes. I just hope it controls and plays up to par with its visuals.

screenshots__2_.jpg
screenshots__3_.jpg

Speaking of visuals, Square-Enix had another ace up its sleeve, and announced that Type-0 will be shipping with a playable demo of the long gestating Final Fantasy XV, and lord is it beautiful. The fact that the game exists in playable form at all is surprising enough, but the trailer they dropped as well as the extended TGS footage was very impressive. Two years ago, Square-Enix gave the project over to Hajime Tabata, and since then it has maintained its initial identity while finally nearing completion.

Kotaku recently ran a fantastic interview with the director where he touched on a few things. XV definitely has a feel of its own, much different than the recent entries, in that it focuses on four companions that travel the world together. While there will be an overarching story, impossibly epic in scope I'm sure, the game is more focused on what you do on your way there than past games. You can see some of that in the trailer, as the four individuals travel in their slick Batman car, and marvel at the sights around them. It's a far cry from the narrow pathways of XIII. Add to that a Kingdom Hearts-esque combat system and you have a great deal of potential. In the interview, Tabata also touched on his aspirations for the game and what Final Fantasy used to mean to a console generation.

"Before I joined Square Enix, I always looked at Final Fantasy games as the benchmark for game consoles," Tabata said. "Each new game showed what was possible on video game hardware."
"If we don't do something that people think is amazing, it's meaningless," Tabata said. "If we don't do something that's challenging, it's also meaningless."

Final Fantasy has never shied away from doing something different, but ever since Final Fantasy X, the franchise hasn't given off that same sense of awe that it used to. XV is the first time I've felt that in quite awhile, and while the stakes are as high as the hype, I truly hope this is the return to form the series needs.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is slated for release on March 17th 2015 on Xbox One and PS4. The release for Final Fantasy XV is TBA, but will be also on Xbox One and PS4.

Scatch 'n Sniff Harley Quinn Cover Art Set

DC Comics is releasing a series of scratch 'n sniff comic covers for Harley Quinn Annual #1. They will come with four different scents that include leather, suntan lotion, pizza and a “mystery smell," which is called "cannabisylocibe 7-A," which is basically weed. That smell is only available in the U.S. because of customs issues.

They released two of four covers, the piece of art above was created by Ant Lucia. The other illustration included below comes from Conner Mounts. Both of them are fantastic pieces.

IGN spoke with the book writer Jimmy Palmiotti, who described the story.

“Yeah, the basic story is Poison Ivy has been thrown in Arkham Asylum, and Harley gets word that she’s in there and decides that she’s going to break her out. So the smells kind of work within the story. Since we have the whole breakout and why Ivy was brought there in the first place, and then we have a lot of different sequences, the cool thing about the story is that it kind of goes off to little places here and there. Although John Timms is drawing the book — we have a bunch of artists drawing doing different scenes in the book, and it actually makes sense to the story we’re presenting. So like Harley usually is, it’s a very crazy story that makes sense in her head and hopefully to the readers.”

I think it's awesome DC is bringing back Scratch 'n Sniff. They aren't calling it that though, they are calling it "Rub-and-Smell."

Impressive Proof of Concept Sci-Fi Action Short - ENVOY

You've got to check out this incredible sci-fi short film called "Envoy." This thing not only looks awesome, but it seems like it has a compelling story. The short is being used as a proof of concept for full-length feature film. It was directed by David Weinstein, who says that it's a "love-letter to many of the classic action-adventure and science fiction films of the ’80s & ’90s."

The story has an Iron Giant kind of feel to it, as the story centers on a young boy who comes across a giant robot. The two share a little moment together before the military comes in to take out the robot. The design of the robot is really cool, and I'd love to see this get picked up by a studio because it's pretty damn impressive.

DUMB AND DUMBER TO - Extended TV Spot

It's been 20 years since we last saw Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Llyod (Jim Carrey) up on the big screen. I never thought we'd see a sequel with these two actors reprising their crazy roles, but here they are, and I hope they can bring the laughs along with them. I thought the first movie was hilarious, and it looks like they've recycled a few of jokes from that movie for this sequel.

Universal Pictures has released an extended TV spot for the movie, which follows Harry and Lloyd as they hit the road again to find Harry's illegitimate daughter for a kidney transplant.

The movie will be released on November 14th.

Last week we learned that FOX is moving forward with a live-action Deadpool movie, which fans like us seem to be very excited about. The Deadpool related news continues with the reveal of Sideshow Collectibles' awesome 1/6th scale Deadpool figure that is a must-own for any fan of the character. As you might expect, the detail on this thing is incredible. It's everything you could ever want from a Deadpool figure. Here's a description with all the details:

Decked out in his iconic hand-tailored red and black costume, super-studly Wade Wilson comes with two handsome portraits and tons of goodies, including long and short stabbing weapons, two bitchin’ pistols, a Whoop Ass-ault rifle, and Big Boomin’ Balls.

Famous for his over-the-top personality, Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth can fully express himself with multiple swap-out hand gestures and plug-in word bubble accessories, customizable with explicit thoughts and witty words. All we have to say is, “You’re welcome, mankind.”

The Sideshow exclusive version of the figure also comes with a flying Deadpool zombie head! The figure is priced at $229.99, and you can pre-order one starting today. I want one of these so bad, but that price is pretty steep.

Disney's BIG HERO 6 Has a Radical New Full Trailer

disneys-big-hero-6-has-a-radical-new-full-trailer

Disney has released a new full trailer for their animated superhero action film Big Hero 6, and it's the best trailer they've released so far. It features a ton of new footage that includes the rest of the superhero team that plays a part in the story, more of the chaos-causing villain, and a major plot point that kickstarts the story. I also included a new TV spot.

The film follows a brilliant robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada, "who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city."

Everything that I've seen and heard about this movie has been amazing, and this very well could end up on my list of favorite animated films. We'll find out how good this movie really is when it's released on November 7th.

Artist Cameron K Lewis created this illustration inspired by Steven Spielberg's classic Peter Pan film Hook. I watched the movie recently with my kids and found myself getting a little choked up as I watched Robin Williams brilliantly play the part of Peter. This poster is a wonderful tribute to the classic film.

Tomorrow, September 26th, verified users of WATCHDisneyXD.com will be able to watch Star Wars Rebels one week early using the WATCH Disney XD app for smartphones, tablets, and smart or connected TVs.

You also have to be on one of the supported providers: AT&T U-verse, COX, Charter, Dish, Verizon FiOS, Xfinity, and more. I'm on Time Warner Cable, which does not have access to WATCH Disney XD, which I'm pretty bummed about.

Star Wars Rebels will be available for everyone else (including me) on Disney XD October 3 at 9:00 p.m., ET/PT.

John Malkovich as the Joker, Marilyn Monroe, and More

Malkovich, Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich. Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich? Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich! You get what I’m saying, right?

According to Spike Jonze’s film Being John Malkovich, if John Malkovich enters the mind of John Malkovich, well, all he’d see and hear is Malkovich. Commercial photographer Sandro Miller can offer you half that experience with his art series “Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to Photographic,” sans the magic portal.

Collaborating with the actor himself, Miller pays homage to the photographers who influenced him with this photo series that places Malkovich into classic images. The photo tributes are superbly executed recreations that are oddly and increasingly fascinating yet totally fun. We’ve included some of our favorites above and below (I'm now fully convinced Malkovich would make an amazing Joker), and you can check out the whole exhibit and get pricing here. (Hat tip: MTV)

ARROW and THE FLASH Creator Talks Costumes and That Comic Book Feeling

0
0

On Arrow, Oliver Queen’s costume has evolved over time. He only traded in his smudgy, smoky guyliner for a mask near the end of the second season. The show has also slowly introduced more dramatic, over the top villains, moving from a secret cabal of corrupt businessmen (and women) in the first season to Deathstroke and Mirakuru serum in the second. Sort of spin-off The Flash won’t be taking things so slowly, although the pilot does leave plenty of room for things to develop. Greg Berlanti, who executive produces both shows, spoke to reporters at a roundtable at San Diego Comic Con in July about the show about allowing the stories and looks room to progress while still making things recognizable to fans. He was asked specifically about Smallville’s aversion to Superman’s costume. Here is what he said,

"For me, I feel like it's weird. You want the characters to be like you read! Even if they aren't there yet, sometimes I think if you're doing an origin story and they're not all the way there -- like our suit here isn't what it's going to be and Arrow isn't Green Arrow yet, we've sort of said that -- but in this day and age, especially when they can go to the movies or download a film where the character is in a suit and you're dealing with the competition not just against your show but actually against all the superheroes that are out there in the universe that people can see, that are live action, you want I think the most true version of that.
“So even though because in TV you can spread it out over a long period it may not be as realized as it is at the end of the series, we still want enough of it at the outset that it doesn't feel like, ‘Wait a second, I'm watching a show about Ambush Bug but he doesn't look like Ambush Bug!’”

Elsewhere in the interview, Berlanti said that he wants to evoke the feeling of the comic, even for non-comic book fans.

“The most successful version of it is, when I get to the end of it if my mom, my dad, my sister -- if people who didn't read the comics the way that I did -- watch the episode and they get the same feeling that I got when I would read the comic books, then I've done my job right.
“So it means we can make changes in terms of elements of the character but at the core, they have to have the experience that I got when I read Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

A reporter chimed in, “Interesting choice of title…”

“Well, no, because that was where he died, you know? And so I cried. I was 13 in a flea market, reading the comic books and sitting there crying, you know? He was that kind of character, that he could elicit that kind of emotion.”

Berlanti finished up by explaining why he thinks some hero stories are better suited to TV than to films.

“Anyway, in TV we do have more time to do more -- it's novelistic. Look at Game of Thrones, right? That's the wonderful thing about television right now is that it can go in all these wonderful directions at the same time and both The Flash and Arrow to me were things I thought, ‘I would almost enjoy that more in a series because of all the other things I'd want to include, than to have to do nine movies to have that kind of stuff.’
“In particular, Arrow was an origin story and we can show him on that island for five years, you know? A movie can't do that -- it would be 20 minutes of the film and it would be really tight and cramped in.”

The Flash will run across your screens on October 7, and Arrow returns on October 8. They are two of the shows I am most excited about this fall. The Flash's pilot is really fantastic, and I can’t wait for all of you to see it.
