Robots Performing Beatles Invokes Inspiration

$

Joining the ranks of robot musical greatness this week comes this amazing little video titled The Hubos Come Together. Watch it and continue reading below.

Watching this actually inspired the completion of a half-baked idea I've had for awhile. For the longest time I've thought a mockumentary about the future would be an awesome idea and I think I found the perfect subject matter to tackle it! We live in a world where music is heavily produced as is, but what if we reach a point where machines are actually the ones making music?

Former amputees guitarists with mechanical arms, smart computers with bass/techno rhythm algorhytms, to a human Simon who finds his match in a robot Garfunkel, all would be really intriguing to me. The whole movie could be focused on the beginning of robot rock and the battle between those for and against the mechanical integration into a truly human art. When I envision the movie I think of some weird crossover between This is Spinal Tap  and Ever Since The World Ended

I dunno just a thought I had would be cool in an industry that's dying for fresh ideas. Can you see my vision? Sound interesting?

Earlier today we showed you ten pretty cool wallpaper images of The Avengers, giving us a up close detailed look at the the faces of our favorite heroes. The Hulk was by far my favorite. Thanks to Toys R Us we now have a dozen more high resolution wallpaper art for you to check out. Some of these designs are familiar, but these seem a lot more detailed than some of the other promo art we've seen.

There's so much Avengers stuff being released for the upcoming movie, and you'd thing we'd get tired of it by now. But I'm not, maybe you are, but I think they've been pumping out a great deal of awesome stuff.

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION - New Image of Storm Shadow

Here's the latest image released from Jon Chu's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, featuring Byung-Hun Lee as Storm Shadow... without the mask. Looks like he got into a situation where he had to ditch his badass samuria sword for a big gun and a human shield. It's my understanding that both Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes (Ray Park) are going to have a much larger role in this next movie, which is something I can't complain about. That's what the fans want to see!

Here's the Synopsis:

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

The movie comes out on June 29th, 2012, four days after my birthday. I want Paramount Pictures and Jon Chu to give me a great G.I. Joe movie for my birthday.

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard may have found his next feature film. THR reports that the Battleship star is in talks to star in Hidden, a horror thriller being written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer. The film is being produced by Roy Lee, Mason Novick, and Lawrence Grey, and John Middleton and Sebastian Aloi will executive produce.

Not much is known about the plot at this time, but the script is described "as an elevated horror-thriller about a family hiding in a bomb shelter after escaping a mysterious outbreak." Filming is slated to begin later this year. There are no other cast members announced at this time, but we will keep you posted when news is available.

Skarsgard will next be seen in Battleship, and has three other films coming out this year - The East, Disconnect, and What Maisie KnewI am sure that True Blood will not be on for too many more seasons, so it will be interesting to see how Skarsgard's film career move to the next level.
Do you think that Skarsgard is better suited for TV or films?

Watch the trailer here if you have not already seen it.

The new Woody Woodpecker film from Illumination and Universal is gaining steam. Deadline reports that John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky have been hired to write the script. This classic character first appeared in 1940.

The writers have a good background for this type of film. Their animated credits include the Mike Judge series creations Beavis And Butt-Head and King of The Hill. They also scripted the Will Ferrell-Jon Heder figure skating comedy Blades of Glory

The entire time I have been writing this piece, I have not been able to get Woody's laugh out of my head. I am sure that after seeing this film I will have an even harder time. Do you that that Woody Woodpecker is annoying or fun?

Robert Downey Jr. To Star in THE JUDGE

Warner Bros. is currently developing a new dramedy for Robert Downey Jr. to star in called The Judge. The studio just brought on Bill Dubuque to write a new draft of the script for director David Dobkin (The Change Up, Wedding Crashers). In case you were wondering, the original script was first written by Nick Schenk (Gran Torino).

Deadline says that the drama centers on "a big-city lawyer who returns home after the death of his mother to learn that his estranged father, a judge, is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before."

Downey Jr. is not only going to star in the film, but he'll be producing it alongside his wife, Susan Downey. The next film we'll see Downey Jr. in is The highly anticipated superhero film The Avengers, the next movie he'll start shooting is Iron Man 3. There's also a big possibility that he'll take on the role of Gepetto in Tim Burton's Pinocchio.

I love that the actor has made this massively huge comeback. He's incredibly fun to watch in the films he stars in, and this seems like a great project for him.

8-Bit Nintendo Box Art for Alfred Hitchcock Classics

Here's a great series of 8-bit style Nintendo box art featuring three of Alfred Hitchcock's classic movies, Psycho, The Birds, and North By Northwest. These are incredibly fun designs, and I wish these movie games actually existed! I bet they'd be awesome. The illustrations were created by Joe Spiotto for for an upcoming show at Gallery 1988, Suspense & Gallows Humor: A Tribute to the All-Time Greatest. Here's a note from the artist:

Alfred Hitchcock was a true master. His work was so chilling and visually captivating, there are many options for an artist to interpret his work, which is why i'm so excited for this show! Below is my contribution.

In the 80's Nintendo was a dominant force to be reckoned with. Had Hitchcock been just a few years behind I'm almost certain that Nintendo would have jumped on the chance to make video-game adaptations of some of his most iconic films. I'm almost certain that their game boxes would have looked a little something like this:

What other movies would you like to see get a classic Nintendo box art make over?

Awesome new Image of CAPTAIN AMERICA - Sequel Coming in 2014

Completely missing the perfect opportunity to announce yesterday, "CAP 2 COMING IN EXACTLY 2 YEARS!", Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have released a press release that have broken through the mystery of the 2014 Marvel movies that has been running for months. Captain America 2, starring Chris Evans, will arrive in theaters on April 4th, 2014. The film has no director at the moment, though it's expected that original Captain America director Joe Johnston will not return as he's just signed to do a thriller titled Not Safe For Work; though Johnston has expressed more interest in making a Winter Soldier film and explain what happened to Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).

The press release confirms that the film will take place in the 21st Century. As Nick Fury is mentioned by name, it's expected to co-star Samuel L. Jackson. The screenwriters of the first film have revealed an interest in having '40s flashback scenes. So far, there only remains one mystery Marvel movie set to be released May 16th, 2014. Personally, I'm hoping for Disney to try a character who HASN'T been on-screen before like Dr. Strange and have something that they can publicize their name on without any legal ramifications (PARAMOUNT). Are you excited to see Captain America return to the big screen in his next feature adventure?

PROMETHEUS - 5 Great New Images

Here are five new images that have been released for Ridley Scott's sci-fi Alien prequel Prometheus. It's exciting to see Scott doing sci-fi again, and I really hope he starts to do more of it. It's been so long since he's touched the genre, but from the looks of Prometheus it seems like he's still got the touch of creative greatness. I would love to see Prometheus take the genre to a whole new level just like Alien did.

Here's the Synopsis:

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.

Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Do you think Prometheus will be a game changer?

David Gordon Green's SUSPIRIA Remake Gaining Steam

David Gordon Green's (Pineapple Express) remake of Dario Argento's 1977 horror classic, Suspiria, has begun to gain some steam. Deadline reports that the long-planned project has been started searching for the actress to take on the role of Suzie in the film.

Chris Gebert and Gordon Green penned the script about "a young American student who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a series of brutal murders, she learns that the academy is a front for something way more sinister than education."

Crime Scene Pictures, and the team that brought Hotel Rwanda and I Am Love are producing the remake. They are currently in post production on another remake, Gambit, as well as preproduction on the Joe Lynch-directed Kate Hudson-starrer Everly

I finally watched the original last year at the recommendation of Venkman, and was haunted by the eerie music and imagery for days. The original is a true horror classic and I am interested to see how this project turns out.

Do you think David Gordon Green can do a good job of directing this film?

Another Die Hard Inspired White House Movie to be Developed by Antoine Fuqua

Last week is was announced that Roland Emmerich was in negotiations to direct a new action thriller called White House Down. The idea was picked up by James Vanderbilt for $3 million dollars, and is described as being Die Hard in the White House. Now it's being reported that yet another action thriller that takes place in the White House is being developed. The movie is called Olympus Has Fallen, and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua is in talks to direct it. This movie has also been described as being Die Hard in the White House.

Nu Image/Millennium put the movie on the fast track to production after Sony Pictures announced their plans for a similar movie. I'll be honest... someone just needs to back out and shelve the project because making two movie that are basically going to be the exact same thing is kind of ridiculous. I'll also remind you that Jack Bauer already went up against terrorists in the White House.

Olympus Has Fallen actually has the advantage here as Gerard Butler is already attached to star in the film as an unlikely Secret Service agent trying to stop terrorists who have taken over the White House. I'm not the biggest Emmerich fan, so if I had to chose one of these movies to see, it's going to be Olympus has Fallen. Which one would you chose?

We've got fifteen new images from Joss Whedon's The Avengers for you to check out! I wonder if these images are part of a new trailer yet to be released. This movie is going to kick all kinds of ass!

Gary Ross Officially Not Directing HUNGER GAMES Sequel CATCHING FIRE

$

Earlier we reported that Gary Ross was not going to direct The Hunger Games sequel, Catchiing Fire. Ross and Lionsgate have officially confirmed the news in respective press releases.

Here is what Ross had to say in his press release:

Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire. As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.

I loved making The Hunger Games – it was the happiest experience of my professional life. Lionsgate was supportive of me in a manner that few directors ever experience in a franchise: they empowered me to make the film I wanted to make and backed the movie in a way that requires no explanation beyond the remarkable results. And contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic. They have also been very understanding of me through this difficult decision.

I also cannot say enough about the people I worked with: Producer Nina Jacobson, a great collaborator and a true friend; the brilliant Suzanne Collins, who entrusted us with her most amazing and important story; the gifted and remarkable Jennifer Lawrence whose performance exceeded my wildest expectations, and the rest of the incredible cast, whom I am proud to call my friends.

To the fans I want to say thank you for your support your faith, your enthusiasm and your trust. Hard as this may be to understand I am trying to keep that trust with you. Thank you all. It’s been a wonderful experience.

Lionsgate had remained hopeful that Ross would return for the second film, even up through Easter weekend. Here is what Lionsgate had to say about Ross' departure:

We’re very sorry that Gary Ross has chosen not to direct Catching Fire. We were really looking forward to making the movie with him. He did an incredible job on the first film and we are grateful for his work. This will not be the end of our relationship, as we consider Ross to be part of the Lionsgate family and look forward to working with him in the future.

Twilight changed directors after the first film and it did even better at the box office. I am wondering if Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment may have wanted to bring in some fresh blood to helm the sequel? The Harry Potter films were helmed by various directors, some turned out better than others, but all were awesome.

Do you think that Ross' official departure from the sequel will hurt or help this movie franchise?
