The Flash is the exciting new DC Comics show on The CW. It stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and shows the origin story of The Flash. In video interviews, Gustin and Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells) talk about their characters. We also have ten photos from the pilot and seven photos the feature the cast in front of grey and white backgrounds. Because The Flash and Arrow are in a connected world, there will be many opportunities for crossovers. Source: CBM.

Lil MacGuffins Art Series Is Winsome and Charming

The NOC List - Mission: Impossible

The NOC List - Mission: Impossible

Artist and illustrator Truck Torrence, who goes by the moniker 100% Soft, has a show on at Bottleneck Gallery, and it is cute and fun. The show is called Lil' MacGuffins and focuses on movie MacGuffins — you know, those objects that everyone in the movie is trying to get their hands on, which drives the plot. Alfred Hitchcock is credited with coining the term, although it may have actually come from screenwriter Angus MacPhail. Whoever did the naming, Torrence has chosen ten of his favorites and illustrated them in his own, inimitable style, which is cartoony and adorable. I love that he did the black and white movies in greyscale.

You can head over to Bottleneck Gallery’s website to buy prints of any of these. Unfortunately, if you buy a print of The NOC List, it won’t be animated. You can’t print gifs. Yet. Check out the 100% Soft website to see more of his work.

SUICIDE SQUAD Movie Could Be Directed by David Ayer

There are several DC Comic films that have been set for release by Warner Bros. through 2020. Not all of the films have been announced yet, but it looks like one of them has been revealed. That movie is Suicide Squad, and Variety reports that End of Watch director David Ayer is the studio's top choice to direct it.

Ayer has a talent for making dark, edgy, and gritty movies, and Suicide Squad would be an awesome flick for him to develop. The project has been sitting around for awhile and we first reported on it five years ago. Dan Lin is producing the movie from a script written by Justin Marks.

The Suicide Squad was introduced in 1959, and it focused on a team of supervillains who were given a second chance by the government for redemption. There's one catch though, they are sent out on deadly missions that will likely end up getting them killed.

This should make for a great movie, and I hope Ayer really does direct it. The next film that Ayer has coming out is the World War II war film Fury, which looks incredible.

Zack Snyder Slow Motion Supercut

Zack Snyder is a polarizing director, one of the reasons people tend to love and hate him is his use of slow motion. Jaume R. Lloret has created a supercut of many of Snyder's greatest slow motion moments. We had no slow-mo moments in Man of Steel, but I'm really hoping there are some in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

We've posted Lloret's previous supercuts that are a must watch, Every Death in Quentin Tarantino's Films, Wes Anderson's POV from Vehicles, and Edgar Wright's Dramatic Close-Ups

STAR WARS Writer to Adapt Mark Millar's STARLIGHT

Gary Whitta, the writer of one of the new standalone Star Wars film, has been hired to adapt Mark Millar's comic book series Starlight for the big screen. Millar is the same guy who brought us Wanted and Kick-Ass.

The story centers on a space hero named Duke McQueen, "who saved the universe four decades ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. But years later, after he's settled down and grown up, he's recruited for one last adventure."

The ongoing comic series was released in March, and it seems like it has the potential to be a great movie. I love the concept! Simon Kinberg, who helped develop X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, is set to produce.

The Star Wars script that Whitta is currently writing is the one that will be directed by Gareth Edwards.

Six New Clips from GOTHAM

six-new-clips-from-gotham

Fox has released six new clips from the pilot episode of Gotham. They give you a much better taste of what the series is going to give Batman fans. Having seen the pilot episode, I think this is going to be a very successful series.

Gotham traces the rise of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") and starring Ben McKenzie ("Southland," "The O.C."), Jada Pinkett Smith ("Hawthorne," "Collateral") and Donal Logue ("Vikings," "Sons of Anarchy"), Gotham follows one cop, destined for greatness, as he navigates a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

The series is set to premiere on Monday, September 22nd.

Stephen Colbert Pitches Prince Hawkcat Film at Comic-Con in Cosplay

Not only did Stephen Colbert moderate the panel for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies this year at Comic-Con, but he also went around trying to pitch a movie of his own. He dressed up as a character named Prince Hawkcat, and it's really cool to see the fans get excited about his costume even though they've never heard of Prince Hawkcat before. The funniest part about the video though is listening to Colbert come up with the fake film pitches. At one point it looks like he almost starts to bust up laughing.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. — Dramatic Season 2 Poster

Marvel has released a dramatic red and black poster for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I hope it's a clue of things to come. The second season looks like it's going to be a bit darker in tone than the previous. The light and rompy first season seemed to have undercut the whole being secret spies thing. I would really love if they stole the Alias playbook for spy drama.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns this Tuesday, September 23rd at 9pm on ABC.

8-Bit Video Game Parkour Run

Redbull released a video featuring freerunner Jason Paul doing an awesome parkour run on  a classic 8-bit video game style set up. It also comes complete with 8-bit sound effects, which completes the viewing experience. Here's a description that was provided:

The Set-Up in which Jason Paul and Team Farang are performing their run is simply awesome. The scenery is built in the look and feel of a 2D video game and reminds of legendary arcade games. Jason Paul needs to find the way out of a Maya temple, has to fight Ninjas before he finds his way over sketchy roof tops to the spot of the big show down: The fight against the final opponent, the end boss. Game over! Winner: Jason Paul.

I'd love to do this kind of stuff, which is why I'm actually learning how to do it with the help of a friend of mine. I don't think I'll ever be as good as what you'll see in the video, but I'll still be able to do some cool stuff.

Disney Casts Pete in PETE'S DRAGON Remake

It was announced last year that Disney would be remaking their classic live-action animated hybrid film, Pete's Dragon. The production has taken a step forward today with the casting of a young actor named Oakes Fegley who will play Pete in the story. They've also cast Oona Laurence, who will play Pete's friend.

David Lowery (Them Bodies Saints) is set to direct from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks. According to Variety, the story will be a reinvention of the 1977 film, and it will obviously revolve around Pete and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be a dragon. The first movie was also a musical, but this new film won't include that musical aspect. With the technology we have today to bring these fantasy creatures to life, I'm curious to see what the design will look like for the dragon.

I haven't watched Pete's Dragon since I was a little kid. I can barely remember it, so maybe it's time I sit down and watch it with the kids. Just in case you need a little refresher, I included a trailer.

Revealing Synopsis and New Promo for WALKING DEAD Season 5

$

AMC has posted a plot synopsis for the upcoming fifth season of The Walking Dead. It recaps where Season 4 left off, and teases that there is a “hopeful prospect of a cure” and that the “true motives of the people of Terminus” will be revealed throughout this next season. Below the synopsis I’ve also included a new promo that was also released called “Hunt,” which counsels to hunt or be hunted. More importantly, it features a slow-mo shot of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) taking care of some business with some massive firearms. It’ll give you goosebumps, I promise.

Season 5 will premiere on Sunday, October 12 at 9/8c.

Season 4 of The Walking Dead ended with Rick and the group outgunned, outnumbered, and trapped in a train car awaiting a grim fate.
Season 5 picks up shortly thereafter. What follows is a story that weaves the true motives of the people of Terminus with the hopeful prospect of a cure in Washington, D.C., the fate of the group’s lost comrades, as well as new locales, new conflicts, and new obstacles in keeping the group together and staying alive.
Stories will break apart and intersect. The characters will find love and hate. Peace and conflict. Contentment and terror. And, in the quest to find a permanent, safe place to call home, one question will haunt them:
After all they’ve seen, all they’ve done, all they’ve sacrificed, lost, and held on to no matter what the cost…
Who do they become?

"Where Are They Now" is an amusing yet depressing 6-minute short created by Steve Cuts. It gives us a glimpse at the sad and pathetic lives that some of our favorite classic cartoon characters are living long after the spotlight has faded on them. Some of these character include Roger Rabbit and his wife Jessica, He-man, Donald Duck, The Smurfs, Super Mario, Thundercats, Carebears, and more. Who would have thought that it would have gotten so bad for these characters?

The CW has released two new TV spots for their superhero series The Flash. There seems to be a bit of new footage featured in the spots. I saw a screening of the pilot episode, which I thought was great. There are so many directions they can take this show, and I'm excited to see where it goes. The series will premiere on October 7th.

Artist JC Richard created this stunning illustration that pays tribute to Steven Spielberg's and George Lucas's classic Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. The piece is called "The Map Room," and it depicts one of the most pivotal moments in the story where Indiana discovers the location of the Ark. I included the clip of the scene for you to watch below. This movie is so damn good.

New TV Spot for GONE GIRL - "Hello, Amy"

We have a new TV spot for David Fincher's murder mystery thriller Gone Girl for you to watch today. I really like the dark and moody tone of Fincher films, and he definitely brought it for Gone Girl. Ben Affleck stars in the film and it looks like he gives a great performance. I'm normally not a fan of Affleck's acting, but I like what I've seen from him in these trailers. In a recent interview with THR, Fincher said that one of the reasons why he cast Affleck was because of his smile.

"You cast movies based on critical scenes. In Gone Girl there’s a smile the guy has to give when the local press asks him to stand next to a poster of his missing wife. I flipped through Google Images and found about 50 shots of Affleck giving that kind of smile in public situations. You look at them and know he’s trying to make people comfortable in the moment, but by doing that he’s making himself vulnerable to people having other perceptions about him."

Yes, Fincher is a Google stalker. I thought it was interesting, though, that that was one of the main aspects he was looking for in an actor. Here's the synopsis:

On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

The movie will be released in theaters on October 3rd.

FARGO Writer to Script a Universal Monster Movie

$

The screenwriter of the amazing Fargo series on FX, Noah Hawley, is apparently writing one of Universal Picture's monster horror films. There are no details on which monster he'll be working on. In Deadline's report, it just says, “Hawley, while readying another season of Fargo, is separately scripting an untitled project at Universal that will be part of that studio’s classic monster franchise push.”

The studio is hoping to build a cinematic universe with these monsters. Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are currently developing a plan to relaunch the studio’s classic monsters starting with the Mummy, which Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote for Kurtzman to direct. That movie will be released on June 24th, 2016. According to Kurtzman, some of the monsters will get their own movie, but other monsters will appear in other films, as secondary characters. They just need to figure out how to balance that out.

As a huge fan of the original Universal monsters, I'm really exited to see how these films turn out, but they better not screw them up! It is comforting to know that they got a great screenwriter to take on one of them. That Fargo series was brilliantly scripted.

Here's a previously released synopsis for the Mummy:

A legend that has endured since the dawn of man is reborn in THE MUMMY, Universal Pictures’ all-new epic action-adventure. THE MUMMY is conceived with dramatic intensity by an imaginative creative team led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producers Roberto Orci, Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious series, Wanted) and Sean Daniel (The Mummy trilogy, The Best Man series). Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, and Bobby Cohen executive produces.
