Kevin Smith's TUSK - 2 Clips and New Poster

kevin-smiths-tusk-has-2-clips-and-new-poster

Two new clips and a poster have been released for Kevin Smith's crazy horror-comedy Tusk. The film tells a chilling tale about an American podcaster (Justin Long) who goes to Canada to interview an old man with an incredible past (Michael Parks). That old man wants to turn poor Long into a walrus. I just can't get over the plot of this movie, it's just so far out left field and so damn sinister. You can hear Smith talk about how the idea for this movie came about in a featurette here.

Wallace (Long) co-hosts a popular podcast with his pal Teddy (Haley Joel Osment), focusing on cruel, mocking cringe humour as part of their mission to keep it “real and raunchy.” After his trip to Winnipeg to interview the “Kill Bill Kid” — a teen whose unfortunate samurai-sword video has gone viral — comes up empty, Wallace decides to make the trip worth his while and find a good story north of the forty-ninth parallel. A handwritten flyer he finds in a bar bathroom leads him to a grizzled old swab (Michael Parks) full of tall tales to share from his life of adventure at sea — and this is where Wallace’s voyage to the Great White North descends into straight-up madness.

The movie hits theaters on September 19th!

Rocket Raccoon and Groot have grown immensely in popularity since Guardians of the Galaxy was released. With all of the love they are getting hopefully, one day, Marvel will consider making a Rocket and Groot standalone film. DeviantArt user Rob Jenx created this high-octane illustration of the two characters doing what they do best.

New Trailer for Robert Downey Jr.'s THE JUDGE

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall's upcoming film The Judge. The movie may not include any superheroes, but it has an incredible cast and seems like it has a strong story. This has been a passion project for Downey, and it's awesome that he was able to get it made.

Downey plays a big city lawyer named Hank Palmer, who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, who happens to be the town’s judge (Duvall), is suspected of murder. He sets out on a journey to discover the truth, and along the way he reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.

I like these sentimental kind of stories. The David Dobkin-directed movie also co-stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Vera Farmiga, Dax Shephard, Billy Bob Thornton, Melissa Leo, Leighton Meester, and Denis O’Hare. The movie is set to be released on October 10th.

Whether you believe it or not, the zombie apocalypse will happen, and you're going to want to be prepared for the bloody madness. Let's face it, you won't be able to survive without a lunchbox to hold food and ammo in. So there's no better lunch box than one specifically made just for the occasion. The box is available on Think Geek for only $9.99, and here's the description they offer up:

The zombies are coming and they're hungry for your brains. Or maybe that growling is your tummy, and it's really YOU who are hungry. And not for brains, silly, but for lunch (unless, of course, your lunch involves brains). When you're hungry like the undead and your stomach threatens to punch your face, what you need to grab is your Zombie Ammo Lunchbox!

Each Zombie Ammo Lunchbox looks like standard issue tactical gear for an official Zombie Emergency Response organization. But open up the top, and it's ready to hold all your goodies. Use it for your lunch, as a sewing kit, for emergency conventions provisions, and all sorts of other fun things. What do we keep in our Zombie Ammo Lunchbox? Let's see: sandwich, cheesy poofs, two napkins, and a rocket launcher. Just kidding - the rocket launcher is only a spoon for our pudding cup.

A new photo of the Batmobile has surfaced from the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This one comes from Autoblog's Twitter feed, and it offers us a different point of view of Batman's badass urban assault vehicle. I know not everyone is on board with this thing, but I think it's going to look so damn cool on the big screen. I've included a video as well.

“Laugh it up fuzzball.”

Funko’s adorable Chewbacca figure finally adds some validity to Han Solo’s searing insult to his Millennium Falcon co-pilot. The seven and a half foot Wookiee looks just like a fuzzball when he's miniaturized as a 6-inch plush.

Funko will be releasing the figure in November as part of their Fabrikations line of plush figures. However, you can pre-order it now at Entertainment Earth. Thanks to GeekAlerts for the find.

Ed Helms' VACATION Starts Shooting and Chevy Chase is Back!

I'm very fond of the Vacation comedy franchise. Those movies just make me laugh. Chevy Chase is brilliant as Clark Griswold, and I'm excited to report that he will be reprising his role in Ed Helms' upcoming sequel, and he'll be joined by Beverly D'Angelo. We heard rumors that they would come back and reprise their roles, but there was never any confirmation until we got a press release saying that the sequel has started production.

Christina Applegate, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlie Day are also set to star. Helms will star as Rusty Griswold, Applegate plays Rusty’s wife Debbie, Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins play their kids, Hemsworth plays Rusty’s hotshot brother-in-law Stone Crandall, and Day will play a river rafting guide. Leslie Mann is also currently in talks to play Rusty’s sister Audrey.

The movie is being directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who also wrote the script for the comedy. The story follows Rusty, who surprises his wife and kids by taking them on a cross-country road trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World. I guess he's looking to relive the adventure from the first movie.

Hopefully this sequel will deliver the laughs. Here's the full press release:

The next generation of Griswolds is at it again. Shooting has begun in Georgia on New Line Cinema’s “Vacation,” starring Ed Helms (“The Hangover” films) and Christina Applegate (the “Anchorman” films) on the road for another ill-fated adventure. The film marks Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s directorial debut.

Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World.

Rounding out the cast are Chris Hemsworth (the “Thor” films) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; Charlie Day (the “Horrible Bosses” films), who plays a river rafting guide; and Skyler Gisondo (“Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,” “Hard Sell”) and Steele Stebbins (“A Haunted House 2”), who play Rusty’s sons, James and Kevin. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the classic “Vacation” comedies.

Goldstein & Daley (“Horrible Bosses,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”) wrote the script, based on characters created by John Hughes. David Dobkin (upcoming “The Judge,” “Wedding Crashers”) and Chris Bender (“We’re the Millers,” upcoming “Horrible Bosses 2”) are producing, with Marc S. Fischer serving as executive producer.

The directors’ behind-the-scenes creative team also includes director of photography Barry Peterson (the “Jump Street” films, “We’re the Millers”), production designer Barry Robison (“Wedding Crashers,” “Pitch Perfect”), and costume designer Debra McGuire (“Ted”).

“Vacation” is a New Line Cinema presentation and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

Adorable Pink Stormtrooper Cosplay

My 6-year-old little girl went from wanting to be Princess Leia from Star Wars for Halloween to a pink Stormtrooper because of this charming cosplay photo that I showed her. The photo was posted by Tom Butler on Twitter and it came with the caption, "Parenting done right." Now I have to either figure out how to make this, or a have to talk my kid back into wanting to be Princess Leia again.

This looks like it's an upgraded version of a pink Stormtrooper photo we shared about a year ago.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 Has a New Title and Release Date

Paramount Pictures has decided to call the fifth chapter in the Paranormal Activity franchise Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. You know what that means, we'll be getting found footage footage from the dimension of ghoooooooosts (I wrote that in my sarcastic spooky voice).

The movie was originally just supposed to be called Paranormal Activity 5. It was going to be released on October 25th, 2015, but that's been changed up too. Now the film will hit theaters on March 13th, 2015, which is a Friday the 13th weekend. I guess that makes up for it not being released on Halloween.

The news comes from Variety who says that it "sounds like this haunted house tale is being treated like a spin-off instead of a direct sequel." There's no information on what the story will be, but the title gives you a hint.

I've actually enjoyed watching the films of this franchise. They've gotten progressively worse since the first movie, but they're still fun horror flicks.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKING JAY - PART 1 Trailer Recut as a Romantic Comedy

The trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 dropped a couple of days ago, and it did a great job of showing how high the stakes are now that the games have literally been shattered forever. The franchise has been insanely profitable, and this new film is sure to bring audiences out in droves. But what about people who “might not be interested in a movie about teenagers murdering each other”? With those people in mind, Jimmy Kimmel Live has recut the trailer as a cheesy romantic comedy called Cupid’s Arrow.

Doctor Who's Matt Smith Joins PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has landed another fun role in a movie. THR is reporting that the actor has joined the cast of the feature film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

This film has been in development for years, but it's finally set to start shooting on September 24th. Burr Steers (17 Again) is directing the film, which also stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, and Douglas Booth

The book is an expanded version of the Jane Austen classic, and the film will tell the story of Liz Bennett, a woman on a quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the dead into vicious killers. Smith will play a character named Mr. Collins, "a parson who is on the lookout for a wife and proposes to Bennett."

Smith recently wrapped production on Terminator: Genisys, and he makes his U.S. acting debut in Ryan Gosling's upcoming film Lost River

The Films of David Fincher Video Tribute

David Fincher is one of my favorite directors of all time. He has given us films such as The Game, Se7en, Zodiac, Fight Club, The Social Network, Panic Room, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, andThe Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He directed Alien 3 too, but that wasn't his fault. The guy just has such a slick style. As a tribute to the films that he's made, Daniel Silva edited together several clips from the movies to highlight his creativity. Watching a video like this really helps you see what defines Fincher as a director and the uniqueness of his work. His next film is Gone Girl, which stars Ben Affleck and opens on September 23rd.

Killer Croc Could be Introduced to the World of GOTHAM

There's a great big world of awesomeness to play with in FOX's new Batman inspired series Gotham. The Batman universe is huge, and there are so many characters that can be used in the world to help drive the story forward. In the pilot episode alone they introduce classic characters like The Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. They will also be teasing the Joker throughout the run of the series and eventually introduce him. I'm sure they'll bring even more characters into this world. In a recent interview with Female FirstGotham showrunner Bruno Heller revealed that Killer Croc could be in the cards. When asked about the library of characters they have to work with, this is what he said:

"We haven't excluded anyone from the mix potentially, but generally what we're looking at is characters where there is some drama or a story behind how they got to be the way they are."

I think there's a lot of drama and story behind most of the characters in the Batverse. Just don't expect to see any of them suiting up in costume or using any superpowers. Heller explains:

"We're looking for characters who live in the real world of Gotham as opposed to the even more super real world of Metropolis if you like. It's not about super powers, it's about super will, if you like. We veer towards those characters who are interesting as people, rather than interesting for their particular power or their particular gimmick or their costume."

There are still some unique characters, though, that they may not dismiss. One of those characters is Killer Croc. Here's what he had to say about that:

"There are certainly characters that would be very difficult to put on the screen. That crocodile guy [Killer Croc] is a tough one - although we may go there..."

I hope they do go there! Killer Croc is such an intense villain, and I'd love to see how they treated the character in this series. He's not the only one though, it would also be cool to see Clayface, Scarecrow, The Mad Hatter, The Ventriloquist, Deadshot; the list goes on.

SPAWN: THE RECALL — Fan-Made Short Film

Over the years we've seen lots of fan films for lots of different comic book characters, but Todd McFarlane's Spawn isn't one we see too often. This short film is called "Spawn: The Recall," and it was directed by Michael Paris. It's pretty good for a fan made film and it has a couple of cool visuals. It's not the greatest short film in the world but I thought it'd be something that our readers would be interested in seeing. Here's a synopsis:

SPAWN : THE RECALL is the story of a former witch and her son, who try to live a normal life away from the darkness.  While they're shopping in a supermarket, the child suddenly disappears. She starts looking for him, freaked out knowing evil forces are still lurking. A security guard comes to her help but while they are checking on the surveillance cameras, something happens. She can sense it, they are here...

Enjoy the show.

Chris Hemsworth Set to Star in I'LL NEVER GET OUT OF THIS WORLD ALIVE

Certain aspects of Hank Williams' life have caught the eyes of two brothers from the world of Asgard. Tom Hiddleston (Loki) is set to play Hank Williams in a biopic called I Saw the Light. Now Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is set to star in and produce a movie that revolves around the life of Williams' doctor, Doc Ebersole. The country singer must be popular is Asgard.

The movie is based on the novel by Steve Earle called I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive, and Benjamin Grayson will make his directorial debut with the indie film from a script that he wrote. Grayson was an assistant to Kenneth Branagh on the Thor production.

The story follows Toby “Doc” Ebersole, "who's haunted by the ghost of Hank Williams following his involvement in the country singer's mysterious death in 1953."

The title of the book and movie were taken from a 1952 song Williams co-wrote, and it happens to be the last single released during his lifetime. Here's a full description of the book that gives you a better idea of the story:

Doc Ebersole lives with the ghost of Hank Williams—not just in the figurative sense, not just because he was one of the last people to see him alive, and not just because he is rumored to have given Hank the final morphine dose that killed him.

In 1963, ten years after Hank's death, Doc himself is wracked by addiction. Having lost his license to practice medicine, his morphine habit isn't as easy to support as it used to be. So he lives in a rented room in the red-light district on the south side of San Antonio, performing abortions and patching up the odd knife or gunshot wound. But when Graciela, a young Mexican immigrant, appears in the neighborhood in search of Doc's services, miraculous things begin to happen. Graciela sustains a wound on her wrist that never heals, yet she heals others with the touch of her hand. Everyone she meets is transformed for the better, except, maybe, for Hank's angry ghost — who isn't at all pleased to see Doc doing well.

This sounds like it will be a decent project for Hemsworth to take on. It's a project that will certainly help flex and expand his acting abilities and talents.

Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods was such an insanely fun horror movie. As a tribute to that film, artist Alex Pardee created an incredibly cool poster that any fan of the film would love. It's called "The Zoology Department," and it features a ton of the various monsters and creatures that reside under the cabin in the woods. I love this illustration, and here is the information on how you can get one:

JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS CHRONICLES Animated Miniseries Coming from Bruce Timm

justice-league-gods-monsters-chronicles-animated-miniseries-coming-from-bruce-timm

Warner Bros. and Machinima are collaborating on a new DC Comics animated miniseries called Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles. It will be developed by animation producers Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett, who both worked on Batman: The Animated Series and several other DC animated series and movies.

The series is based on an original animated film that Timm is also an executive producer on called Justice League: Gods and Monsters. That movie will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment later in 2015. The Chronicles series will focus on alternate versions of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The press release we received offers the following description:

Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles explores a newly conceived reality in the DC Universe where Justice League members Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are much darker versions of the Super Heroes that people think they know. The episodes are expected to debut on Machinima in spring 2015, weeks before the launch of the film.

This has the potential to be something really freakin' cool, and I'm intrigued to see how it turns out. Here is some more information and quotes from the talent involved from the press release provided.

“Ever since we announced the Warner Bros. strategic investment, we have been looking for a new and exciting way to tap into the company’s unmatched content. With 'Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles," Machinima will be the very first place fans can experience a new vision for DC Comics’ beloved Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman characters. In addition, we have built a first-of-its-kind package for brands to engage with these characters to reach Machinima's elusive audience,” said Chad Gutstein, Machinma’s CEO.

"Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles" marks the first project from Warner Bros.’ newly formed digital content production unit, headed up by Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series.

Sam Register said: “We couldn’t be happier to be announcing our first new digital series today, and we’re even more excited that it’s a collaboration with such accomplished storytellers as Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett, who have been responsible for some of the most innovative and creative DC Universe projects. We can’t wait for fans to have a chance to see the world they have created when 'Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles' debuts on Machinima next year.”

“We are committed to delivering DC Entertainment’s extensive line-up of world-class characters and stories to audiences across all platforms and formats,” stated DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson. “'Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles' is an exciting opportunity to bring alternate versions of DC Comics’ iconic Justice League characters to Machinima, and we look forward to bringing this new animated shortform series to life with our partners across Warner Bros.”

"Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles" explores a newly conceived reality in the DC Universe where Justice League members Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are much darker versions of the Super Heroes that people think they know. The episodes are expected to debut on Machinima in spring 2015, weeks before the launch of the film.

Vin Diesel's Auditions As Other Famous Movie Trees

Vin Diesel did some interesting things to breathe life into the extraterrestrial tree-like creature Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. The actor really went the extra mile to voice the character, recording countless takes of Groot’s extremely limited dialogue in several different languages. He even did some recordings while wearing stilts in order to “feel what it felt like to be a seven and a half foot tree.” But did you know he’s been preparing his whole career to take on this role? Screen Junkies has uncovered many of the “auditions” Diesel did for other famous trees before finally landing the role of Groot.
