George Lucas Dies While Shooting THE PHANTOM MENACE

It's with a heavy heart that I bring you the devastating news that Star Wars creator George Lucas has passed away. He was 52 years old and in the middle of shooting the first film in his new epic prequel trilogy Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. According to the report he was killed by a CGI explosion that accidently went off on the set of the film.

The films production will not continue without Lucas, so we will never really know what exactly he was planning for us with the incredible highly anticipated new trilogy. There's no doubt that it would have ended up being another Lucas sci-fi masterpiece.

Lucas has forever changed the way movie will be made, and he'll be missed. It's sad to think about all of the movies that we will never see. On top of his Star Wars prequel trilogy, we'll never know if he was planning another Indiana Jones film, or any other original films, which is something he's been talking about doing. There's so much movie awesomeness that could have been.

That being said he'll always be remembered for the incredible movies that he did create such as the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies. These movies will go down history of some of the greatest films ever made.

It really awful that this had to happen. It's an incredibly sad day, and our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends. If there's anything you'd like to say about Lucas and his brilliant work please feel free to post your thoughts in the comment section below.

This is obviously an APRIL FOOLS joke that was written all in the name of fun. It takes us back in time to the year 1997 while Lucas was shooting The Phantom Menace, and how we might have reacted if he had died while shooting it. This was a time when we all thought he was he was still the man that could do no wrong. The Phantom Menace changed all of our opinions about him really fast.

Disney/Pixar and Marvel Announce A New HOWARD THE DUCK Movie

Walt Disney Pictures, in association with Pixar Animation Studios and Marvel Studios, has announced its first major animated venture into the Marvel Universe: Howard the Duck, to be directed by Academy Award-winner Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc. and Up). Michael Chabon (John Carter) and Academy Award-nominee Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, upcoming Phineas and Ferb) have been hired to write the film. Most fans revile the original 1986 film featuring Lea Thompson and Jeffrey Jones, though this version is said to not have any ties towards it. "If it wasn't for the financial trouble following the aftermath of Howard the Duck, Pixar might never have been sold to Steve Jobs and become what it is today," said Docter. "In that spirit, we feel it's only fitting for us to come back to Howard." Disney notoriously threatened legal action against Marvel for Howard's resemblance to Donald Duck; it seems, after Marvel was bought out by Disney, that all has been forgiven. The voice cast announced with the project features Seth Rogen as Howard, Katy Perry as Beverly Switzler and Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson. Rogen said in a statement, "Growing up, 'Howard the Duck' was one of my all-time favorite comic book characters. To play him now in a Pixar movie is beyond my wildest dreams. Howard the Duck is gonna be a really wild and wacky adventure." The film is scheduled for a late 2014 release date. Is Pixar ready to create the world that Howard never made?

Don't lay an egg, folks! Of course, this is an April Fools' joke! Granted, I'd love to see Disney/Pixar and Marvel make a movie together, but definitely not Howard the Duck. I've seen the original, and yeah, it's not that good (but not unwatchable). That story about how the movie helped lead to Pixar being bought is actually true. Who says you can't learn something on April Fools' Day? This was just some fun and I hope you enjoyed it. HAPPY APRIL FOOLS!!!

Seth MacFarlane's TED - Theatrical Trailer

A couple of days ago we brought you the vulgar and hilarious red-band trailer for Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane's first feature film comedy, Ted. Today we give you the theatrical green-band trailer, which is actually in my opinion a better cut trailer, without the redbandness. It gives you a little background on how Ted came into existence, and it offers up a bunch of new footage. My favorite part of the trailer is the end. I won't spoil it for you, so just watch it.

Here's the Synopsis:

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brings his boundary-pushing brand of humor to the big screen for the first time as writer, director and voice star of Ted. In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish...and has refused to leave his side ever since.

The movie stars Mark WahlbergMila Kunis,Giovanni RibisiJessica StroupJoel McHalePatrick WarburtonLaura VandervoortRalph Garman, and it opens up July 13th, 2012. I'm looking forward to seeing it! I think it looks like it's going to be a great comedy! Watch the trailer and let us know what you think!

Movie Poster For Oliver Stone's SAVAGES

Here is the official poster for Oliver Stone's Savages, which is based on Don Winslow's novel of the same name. Shane Salerno, Winslow and Stone penned the screenplay for the drama that stars Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch, and Demian Bichir

Click the poster above for the hi-res version. The first trailer will arrive Thursday, and the film itself is scheduled for July.

Official Synopsis:

Three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone returns to the screen with the ferocious thriller Savages, featuring the all-star ensemble cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. The film is based on Don Winslow’s best-selling crime novel that was named one of The New York Times' Top 10 Books of 2010.

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon—with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)—wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

Savages arrives in theaters on July 6! Stone is a fantastic director, but lately he has lost some of his momentum. I am hoping that this will have the same feel as films like Natural Born Killers. Are you looking forward to seeing Oliver Stone's latest film?

Trailer for BACK TO SPACE-CON - Doc Based on the Early Days of Sci-Fi Conventions

Sci-Fi geek conventions aren't what they used to be. They used to be small and intimate; now most of them are big media-saturated events that everyone, even non-geeks, want to be a part of. It's become a mainstream business. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy the hell out of going to these events! I think they're incredibly fun and exciting, but I would have loved to experience the early days of these conventions when no one but the true geeks really cared.

Here's the trailer to a fun looking documentary called Back to Space-Con that takes us back into to these early vintage fanboy and fangirl events. The doc takes you on a journey to some of the earliest conventions such as The Red Hour Festival, which is an early Star Trek con.

Here's the Synopsis:

This feature-length documentary film tells the story of the 1970′s Bay Area Sci-Fi conventions called Space-Con. Told by the original organizers and fans. Includes celebrity interviews, costume contests and over 40 minutes of rare convention footage. See the Federation Trading Post in Berkeley and very first Star Trek convention in San Francisco. A real treat for any Star Trek or Star Wars fan. Film stars Bob Wilkins, John Stanley, Ernie Fosselius, and many more.

The doc is currently available on DVD, and you can buy it at November Fire. Check out the trailer below, and let us know if you've ever been to one of these early conventions. What are your general thoughts on conventions now?

For today's piece of Geek Art I bring you a radical CG Batman Viking design created by CGHUB artist Jaco. I think it's a fun character design. I could see Batman kicking ass as a medieval Viking. Maybe that should be the next movie idea.

Gary Ross Might Not Direct THE HUNGER GAMES Sequel

$

It looks like there's a chance that director Gary Ross won't be back to direct The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. Why? you ask. Money. Yeah, the film has so far brought in more that $363 million dollars, but Lionsgate isn't willing to give the director a significant raise, which is what he's asking for. He made $3 million to write and direct the first film, and I think he should get a decent raise, especially after the movie performed so freakin' well at the box office. I think he deserves it.

The next film is currently being prepped, a script has been written by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire), and they need to get the movie into production soon, as they've already set the release date for the sequel for November of 2013. If they don't get the movie into production soon, Fox will nab the film's star Jennifer Lawrence for the sequel to X-Men: First Class. If that happens, Catching Fire will most definitely be put on hold, so they need to lock down a director pretty fast.

They might as well just sign up Ross and pay him what he's asking for, or at least near the amount he's asking for. He's a solid investment. He proved he could handle the material and made a hell of a great movie that a lot of the fans enjoyed. Inside sources tell THR,

Ultimately, it will be difficult, and yet everybody will do the sane thing, which is to work it out. Everybody will end up unhappy in their own way. It's just the nature of the beast.

It sounds like they are going to try and work things out, but if Ross doesn't come back I don't think he's going to have a problem finding another movie to direct. Do you think Lionsgate should pay the director more money to direct the sequel, or would you like to see someone else take on the challenge of bringing it to life on the big screen?

Last month a t-shirt design contest for The Dark Knight Rises was announced. The designs are being judged by Warner Bros., and the top 3 finalists will be sent to director Christopher Nolan who will make the final decision. The top prize is $3,500 and 12 shirts (from the website) of their choice.

I've included a bunch of the designs here that have been submitted. There's a ton more to check out, and you'll be able to place your own vote if you want on the official site. Some of these are actually very cool! Look over the designs and place your vote!

TOTAL RECALL - Behind the Scenes with Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale

Entertainment Tonight has released a little behind the scenes look at one of this summer's coolest looking movies Total Recall. I didn't think I would be excited about this, but I don't know how you can't be after watching the first trailer! It looks great!

The video embedded below includes some behind the scenes footage as well as interviews with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel. Basically, they're just completely hyping up the awesomeness of the movie.

Here's the Official Synopsis:

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) whom he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) – there is no one Quaid can trust, except possibly a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) working for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy). The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate. The film is directed by Len Wiseman. The screenplay is by Kurt Wimmer and Mark Bomback and the screen story is by Ronald Shusett & Dan O'Bannon and Jon Povill. The producers are Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe.

I'm completely sold on this movie, and I can't wait to see it in theaters on August 3rd, 2012. Do you like the trailer for this film? Does it look better than what you expected it to be?

Abigail Breslin Cast in Horror Film HAUNTER

$

Zombieland co-star Abigail Breslin is to star in director Vincenzo Natali's (Splice) new horror movie,Haunter, being produced by Copperheart Entertainment.

In the film, Breslin will play the ghost of a dead teenage girl, who died along with her family in 1986. The film is described as "a reverse ghost story" that "follows Lisa, a ghost who is "trapped in their house together and unable to move on, Lisa must reach out from beyond the grave to help her present-day, living counterpart avoid the same fate she suffered."

Shooting starts later on this month in Toronto. Breslin is a great young actress, but Natali is hit and miss for me. I like Cube but hated Splice; it was just poorly written and directed. Hopefully this new horror movie will be better. What do you think of Natali's previous work?

Universal Planning to Reboot THE MUMMY Again

$

Universal Pictures is taking their classic Mummy franchise and rebooting the hell out of it again. The studio has hired Jon Spaiht to write the script for the film. He was one of the writers that worked on Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi film Prometheus. The producer of the Brendan Fraser films, Sean Daniels, will once again help in bringing The Mummy back to the big screen.

I didn't really care for Stephen Sommer's 1999 version of the film, but it was very successful, as was its two sequels. All together they brought in over a billion dollars, so of course the studio wants to get back in business with the living dead. The screenwriter has this to say about the project,

I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with 'Prometheus': to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before.

I'd love to see a movie with an idea I've never seen before! But, it's the Mummy, we pretty much know what we're going to get. it will just be wrapped in a different packed. It's hard to tell if Spaiht being on this project is a good thing. He not only worked on Prometheus, but he also is writing World War Robot, and another untitled sci-fi script for producer Jerry Bruckheimer. He was also on Variety's list of top 10 screenwriters to watch in 2012. Unfortunately he also wrote that utterly awful alien invasion movie The Darkest Hour,

What do you think about The Mummy getting another reboot?

Villains Cast in A GOOD DAY TO DAY HARD

Director John Moore has cast his two villains in his upcoming film A Good Day to Die Hard. Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others) and newcomer Yulia Snigir have officially signed on to join Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney in 20th Century Fox's action packed sequel.

The scripts for the film was written by Skip Woods. The story is set in Russia and it follows the continuing adventures  of John McClane, this time his estranged son Jack is coming along for the ride. The "duo team up to keep each other alive and protect the world from imminent disaster."

Variety reports that Koch will play a character named Komorov, and Snigir will play Irina. Both of them are villainous roles. I don't know much about either of these actors, so we'll find out soon enough where there talents lie. But, they look like villains!

The fifth installment of the action franchise is set to be released on release on February 14th, 2013. Are you excited about this new Die Hard film? I just hope it doesn't go ridiculously over the top like the last one.

I really enjoyed that recent superhero movie Chronicle, it was a bit silly but it entertaining the hell out of me. It also had some pretty solid special effects for such a low budget film, they really did a lot with what they had. We've got a awesome behind the scenes video that you can watch that shows you want went into to making these effects so cool. I loved the flying scenes in this movie, it made flying feel real, like anyone could do it. There was something natural about it.

I enjoy watching behind the scenes movie stuff like this, especially on how certain visual effects were achieved in a film. If you like this kind of stuff as well or you're just curious, then you've got to watch these!

Researchers have been racking their brains as of late with squirrels and their activities i09 reports. Apparently they found out that squirrels are capable of dodging rattlesnakes by heating up their tale and wiggling it around, and they are having a hell of a time wondering why this happens. In an effort to fully understand, they've constructed robosquirrels to take on real life cobras so they can better study this phenomena. The video they feature is pretty cool, but I decided to spice things up a bit for more action.

Watch TOTAL RECALL Trailer with Director Commentary

A few days ago Sony Pictures unleashed a fantastic trailer for the Len Wiseman directed Total Recall reboot, and I think it's safe to say it blew a lot of us away. I know I wasn't expecting what I saw, but I loved it! It turned out being completely different than what I was imagining, and I have no complaints.

The director of the film sat down with MTV to give full commentary breakdown of the trailer. It adds a little bit of insight in how things were done and why. One of the more awesome aspects of the film he talks about is how he used cameras on computer rigs moving at 35 miles an hour to capture that incredibly badass fight sequence in the trailer.

The movie comes out August 3rd, 2012. Enjoy the trailer commentary!
