Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Jennifer Lopez's new psychological thriller The Boy Next Door. The movie was directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious), and the story explores a forbidden attraction between a teenage boy and an older woman that goes way too far.

We've seen this same story recycled over and over again in Hollywood over the years. It must be a formula that works for audiences. Since you've already seen this movie before, I'm sure you can figure out the entire plot of the film and how it's going to play out before you even see it.

Lopez plays a mother and teacher who recently separated from her husband. She sparks an inappropriate relationship with the teenage neighbor boy that goes to the school she teaches at. He's also a friend of her own son. When she tries to end the relationship, the kids starts to cause some major issues in her life. The boy is played by Ryan Guzman, and he's one of those actors that doesn't look like he belongs in high school at all.

The film also stars John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. It's set to be released on January 23rd.

Director Wes Anderson sure does have a beautiful way of setting up his shots for the movies he makes. I'm sure any fan of the director is very familiar with his style, and that he loves to shoot POV shots from several modes of transportation that he includes in his movies. Here's a great supercut created by Jaume R. Lloret that includes all of the POV vehicle shots from films such as The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Just yesterday we got our first real look at Paul Bettany's The Vision in Joss Whedon's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Today we bring you a piece of key character art for the character that comes from Sideshow Collectibles. It gives us an even better full body shot of the character. There are a lot more details from the costume design that you can see here, and I love it! The illustration will be used to help Sideshow create some collectible merchandise for the character which could be one of their 1/6th scale action figure or a statue.

Warner Bros. Wants a LEGION OF SUPERHEROES Movie

Warner Bros. Wants a LEGION OF SUPERHEROES Movie

With the massive success of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Warner Bros. is now looking to get into the space superhero action with DC Comics' own hero space team, Legion of Superheroes

According to sources at Latino-Review, "Warners is quietly sending out the DC comic book Legion Of Superheroes to screenwriters & their reps for takes. For non-industry folks, what that means is that screenwriters check out the comic book and come up for a movie idea involving the characters from that comic. Those writers then go to the studio to pitch their idea. The studio then hires the screenwriter they feel has the best idea or take for the film."

There's no word on whether Legion of Superheroes is part of the nine unannounced films that the studio is planning, or if it is another potential project recently added. Either way, Warners is obviously hoping to find the same kind of success that Marvel has found, they are just doing it a lot more slowly.

With the success of Guardians of the Galaxy I'm sure we're going to see a surge of space adventure movies in the next few years. Hopefully the market doesn't get crazy over-saturated. There are some that have already been in development for awhile such as Star Wars: Episode VII and the Avatar sequels. Marvel even has another one in the works with Inhumans. I'm curious to see what other projects pop up over the next few years.

I was never a big fan of Legion of Superheroes, but the comic was created by Otto Binder and the story is set in the 30th and 31st centuries. The Legion first made their appearance in Adventure Comics #247 which debuted in April of 1958.

The three founding members of the team include Cosmic Boy, whose power includes super-magnetism. He is able to manipulate, repel, and attract metal objects of different sizes. There's Saturn Girl, who can summon distant people, she can probe human, electronic, and animal minds. The character is also able to "push" weak minds, and even directly control others' thoughts and emotions. Then there's a guy named Lightning Lad, which is a silly name. He has the ability to generate electricity within his own body, and he is able to discharge the electricity in the form of potent lightning bolts.

There are many other characters who have been a part of the team over the years and could potentially be included in the movie. Some of those include Superboy, Chameleon Boy, Colossal Boy, Invisible Kid, Star Boy, Triplicate Girl, Phantom Girl, Supergirl, and more. These characters are definitely not as awesome as the Guardians of the Galaxy, but it will interesting to see how it turns out if it actually happens.

You've got to watch this spectacular CG animated short called Space cat Hob, which tells the story on an astronaut cat that crash lands on an alien planet. While there he tries to help some kind of alien bee creature, but ends up in a battle with a swarm of them!

The short is insanely entertaining and visually stunning. The film was directed by Loïc Bramoullé, and it's a fun concept that was executed superbly. Thanks to io9 for the tip, and enjoy the show!

Michael Douglas Will Not be Wearing an ANT-MAN Costume

For those of you hoping to see Michael Douglas dress up in an Ant-Man costume in the upcoming Marvel film… you're out of luck. Douglas will not be donning the superhero garb. He talked about the movie and costume in a recent interview with MTV saying:

"My costume will be hung up and Paul [Rudd] will be wearing it in good form."

He also talked about Paul Rudd's physic in the movie saying:

"Paul Rudd is ripped.  He’s been training and working out for this picture for a long time. He was so cut, that they had to soften his costume up, with all the built-in six-packs and all of that."

Douglas is playing Hank Pym in the movie, and even though we won't see him in costume, we might see a flashback sequence with a younger version of him in costume. I've been hearing there will be some fun flashback sequences in the movie.

The movie will hit theaters on July 17th, 2014!

TOP GUN 2 to be Scripted by Justin Marks

Justin Marks, the screenwriter behind films such as Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and Jon Favreau's upcoming Jungle Book movie has been hired by Paramount Pictures and Skydance to script Top Gun 2

The Jerry Bruckheimer production has been in slow development for years, but it looks like they are ready to try and move forward. Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role in the film as Maverick, and the story will focus on "the relevance of good old fashioned pilots in today’s high-tech, drone-centric war environment."

Tony Scott was set to direct the film before he passed away in 2012. The film he was developing was written by Peter Craig, who is the same guy who wrote Ben Affleck’s The Town

The only movie that I've seen from Marks is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, and it was terrible beyond belief. I'm honestly shocked that he still has a career after that. Not only did he write Jungle Book, but he also worked with Bruckheimer on a project called War Dogs, which centered around military dogs. He's also adapting the Vertigo comic Federal Bureau of Physics for Warner Bros. Hopefully these upcoming films are better than what he's done in the past.

He calls the series "Alphabet Attack," and they include illustrations inspired by Escape From New York, Star Trek, Robocop 2, Aliens, The Thing, Predator, Star Wars, Terminator, Blade Runner, and The Matrix. The artist has an insane wild style. The pieces are filled with adrenaline, and I absolutely love that. The artist described the series as follows:

"Each piece is titled after a letter of the alphabet, and themed by faves from science fiction, film, comics, and literature."

In honor of football season starting, the latest spot from Disney's Big Hero 6 is called "Are You Ready For Some Football." It features new footage of some of the other characters in action. Baymax is usually front and center for all the spots that have been released, so it's nice to see the studio mixing it up a bit.

With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who’s catapulted into the midst of a dangerous plot and must transform his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and a diverse group of friends into a band of high-tech heroes.

The movie is being directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, and it stars the voices of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, T.J. Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, James Cromwell, Alan Tudyk, and Daniel Henney. The awesome looking film will be released on November 7th, 2014

Dark Short Film About the Death of Childhood - VARMiNT

Once I started watching this short film I couldn't pull myself away from it. The short is called "VARMiNT," and it sucked me right into its dark, comedic, and disturbing world. It's a very clever, fresh, and unique story that was beautifully shot. The amazing film is NSFW, but it's worth watching when you have a chance. It's very different than anything I've seen recently. There may be some disturbing aspects, but it does carry a powerful massage about hate. Here's the synopsis:

The death of child-hood: VARMiNT follows a filthy 12 year-old feral boy, whose only link to his past are a pair of underpants and tattered baby blanket. Sleeping in trees, he fights to survive by scavenging nearby farms at night. When he becomes obsessed with the mechanical wonders of a local farmer’s tractor, survival could prove fatal.

The violent conclusion challenges lessons in adulthood, social conventions, and man’s thoughtless disposals of life.

The short was directed by Joel Knoernschild from a script written by Chris Schieffelin. I hope you like it!

Hayley Atwell's Captain America character, Agent Peggy Carter, was last seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Carter is also getting her own series, but we won't have to wait until that series premieres to see her again. It was revealed that she will be introduced into ABC's Marvel TV universe in the first episode of Season 2 of Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. I imagine it will be a flashback sequence of sorts showing the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s creation. But who knows, it was previously reported that the Peggy Carter series wouldn't show the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D. until Season 2 at the soonest. Here's a photo and synopsis for the episode, which is titled "Shadows":

“Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources. But that’s not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?”

This next season will feature several new guest actors including Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird, Kyle MacLachlan as Skye’s father, Brian Patrick Wade as Carl "Crusher" Creel, aka the Absorbing Man, B.J. Britt as Agent Antoine Triplett, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrian Pasdar as Brigadier General Glenn Talbot, Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie, Patton Oswalt as Agent Billy Koenig, Lucy Lawless as Isabelle "Izzy" Hartley, Wilmer Calderon as Idaho, Reed Diamond as Daniel Whitehall, Brian Patrick Wade as Carl Creel, Matthew Glave as Roger Browning, Simon Kassianides as Sunil Bakshi, and Raquel Gardner as Carla Talbot.

Season 2 of Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to premiere on September 23rd.

10 Fun Facts about THE NEVERENDING STORY

10-fun-facts-about-the-neverending-story

The Neverending Story is a movie that I grew up loving, and I recently realized that I've never really heard any stories about the film's development. Usually when a person spends as much time online as I do, you come across all kinds of interesting facts and trivia about the movies we love, but this isn't one of them. I haven't come across much about this movie, so I thought I'd point out a few fun facts that you maybe haven't heard before. The only bit of trivia I knew about it before I looked up this stuff was the first bit of information below:

  • During the first Ivory Tower scene when the group of Fantasians are gathered together, if you look very closely you will see characters such as Yoda, Mickey Mouse, Chewbacca, C3PO, The Ewoks, ET and Gumby. Here's a photo pointing them out:
10-fun-facts-about-the-neverending-story2
  • The original Auryn from the film hangs in a glass display in Steven Spielberg's office.
  • Noah Hathaway, they actor who played Atreyu, almost lost an eye during the scene were he fights the wolf Gmork. Apparently one of the claws on Gmork's giant paws struck him in the face by his eye. The wolf robot was also so heavy that the actor lost his breath when he was hit to the ground by it. They only did one shot of this because of the risk of being seriously injured.

  • Ever wonder what name Bastian screams out the window to save fantasia? According to the book, it was "Moonchild", but of course it has often been debated over what he actually says.
  • The Night Hob curses in the opening scene where the Rockbiter is running down its path. This profanity is often dubbed over by the grumble of the Rockbiter's scooter, so that it can be shown as a children's film.
  • Tami Stronach, who played the Child Empress, lost both of her front teeth right before they started filming so they made her fake teeth. Those teeth caused her to lisp until she learned to compensate for them. (I thought she was the most beautiful thing in the world when I saw this movie as a kid.)
  • Falkor is actually a 43-foot long motorized creature with 6,000 plastic scales and pink feather-fur. His head is three feet tall and long, and has a long tongue in the mouth. If you ever find yourself in Bavaria Filmplatz Munich, Germany you can "ride" on Falcor's back where the film was shot there.
  • The author of the book Michael Ende wasn't happy with the film's version of his story, so he didn't want his name placed in the opening credits. A small credit appears at the end.
  • There were two scenes from the book that were in the script but ended up being cut out due to the limitations of special effects at the time. The first was the initial appearance of Falcor, where Atreyu rescues him from Ygramul the Many, which is a swarm of poisonous wasps taking the form of a giant spider. This was at the point where Bastian's scream being heard by the characters in the book was to have taken place. It also helped explain  why Atreyu and Falcor are later seen being given medicine by the Gnomes. The second scene involved Atreyu and Falcor encountering the Wind Giants, which were giant creatures made of clouds. This was re-edited into their close encounter with the Nothing before Atreyu falls into the sea. I would actually love to see this movie remade now, because the story could fully be realized with the visual effects that can now be accomplished.
  • The movie was filmed in Germany during the hottest summer it had in 25 years. It was so hot one of the statues of the Ivory Tower actually melted. On other days the crew were forced to shut down production because the blue backgrounds for the matte work wouldn't work properly.

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 May Not be Chris Evans' Last Marvel Film After All

captain-america-3-may-not-be-chris-evans-last-marvel-film-after-all

There's been a lot of talk about Chris Evans being done portraying Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America after Captain America 3. The actor sparked this discussion himself when he said that he's going to take a break from acting when his contract with Marvel is done and take up directing. The Russo brothers also recently said that Captain America 3 will wrap up the Steve Rogers storyline.

But, it doesn't sound like Evans is ready to give up the shield just yet. In a recent interview with MTV, the actor was asked about Captain America 3 being his last outing as the superhero, to which he replied:

"Who's handing off the shield? Don't take my job from me prematurely dude. I'm sure it'll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character."

That doesn't sound like a guy ready move on from the Marvel universe to me. It sounds like there's a good chance he could stick around for at least another film or two after Cap 3. Maybe they won't be solo films, but I think he'll be back. He then goes on to talk about what he loves about the Marvel cinematic universe saying:

"It's this giant web of plot, where everything is connected to everything else… that's the beautiful thing and especially for the fanboys who understand these plotlines. With Cap 3, we're going to continue this excitement… Marvel doesn't disappoint. Whatever you're hoping for, you're probably going to get."

Evans has made for a great Captain America, and I'm happy to hear that the third film likely won't be the last that we see of him. Marvel obviously has an ultimate goal for the character, and I'm excited to see where they take him.

New GOTHAM Promos for The Penguin and Fish Mooney

A couple new character promos have been released for FOX's highly anticipated new series Gotham. They are basically featurettes that include footage and interviews with the cast and crew of the show as they talk about certain characters. The first promo focuses on Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, played by Robin Lord Taylor. The second focuses on Jada Pinkett Smith's character Fish Mooney.

Gotham is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), Gotham follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

The series is set to premiere on FOX on September 22nd, and I think fans are going to love it.

Exclusive Clip from A&E’s EPIC INK - Cthulhu

In this exclusive bonus clip from Epic Ink, Max (and his mom) comes to Area 51 Tattoo in search of a tattoo of Cthulhu, the mythic beast dreamed up by H.P. Lovecraft, who described him as “a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind.”  Yikes. Max was in good hands, though. Area 51 specializes in pop culture tattoos, and Josh Bodwell, the artist who did this piece, is not just a geek trivia king, he is also a “licensed LucasFilm tattooist” (Did you guys know that was a thing? I didn’t know that was a thing).

It turned out pretty well, and I have to say, Max’s mom reacted way better than mine would have. The GeekTyrant crew is strangely uninked given our demographics and occupations, but we are always on the lookout for cool ink when we go to cons, and this piece definitely qualifies. Here is what Bodwell said about designing the tattoo.

“I wanted to capture the horror aspect of H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu but I also felt there's a sci-fi element to the creature as well so I opted for brighter tones than you'd typically expect from a 'horror' tattoo. I wanted to also give it the illusion of scale within his environment so I added more fine details to the foreground and allowed the image to appear 'softer' towards the background to give it depth of field. I had a lot of freedom from the client and a lot of freedom on the design since Cthulhu's image is left up to the reader's imagination.  Overall it took me about 6.5 hours and I'm stoked on the final result!”

You can see more awesome geek tattoos on Epic Ink, which airs on Wednesdays at 10:30 pm ET/PT on A&E.

Even though Godzilla was hardly in the movie, and Bryan Cranston wasn't in it as long as we hoped, I still thought Godzilla was a great movie that provided fun entertainment. I like how director Gareth Edwards handled the story. Screen Junkies has delivered an Honest Trailer for the film that does a funny job of tearing it apart though! Even if you liked the movie you can't really argue with the points they make. Enjoy!

David Fincher and James Ellroy Team Up for HBO Noir Drama

Director David Fincher and crime novelist James Ellroy, who wrote The Black Dahlia, have teamed up to develop a new noir crime drama for HBO. It's about time these two talents came together to bring us something. I always thought they should develop something together.

Fincher was actually developing a film adaptation of The Black Dahlia before Zodiac came along and stole the director from it. The news comes from The Playlist who reports that “Fincher and Ellroy are talking to HBO, and planning a noir-ish crime show set in L.A., in a similar 1950s milieu (like Ellroy’s L.A. Confidential).”

It'll be great to see a series like this from these two talents. Ellroy is a fantastic writer full of all kinds of crazy, interesting information about the history of crime in Los Angeles, and Fincher is one of the best directors working today. They will make beautiful TV together.
