20th Century Fox has released three new TV spots, five character posters, and a new clip from their awesome looking adventure film The Maze Runner. I'm normally not a fan of all these young adult novels being adapted into movies, but this one actually looks really good.

When Thomas (O'Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape.

The film stars Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Will Poulter. It's set to be released on September 19th!

Neil Gaiman's HANSEL & GRETEL to Get Big Screen Treatment

Neil Gaiman has written his own version of the classic Grimm fairytale Hansel & Gretel. It hasn't even been published yet, but the feature film rights have already been acquired. They were picked up by Juliet Blake, who recently teamed up with Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey to produce the wonderful film The Hundred-Foot Journey.

The beautifully gloomy artwork you see here was done for the book by artist Lorenzo Mattotti, and it has been described as "a stunning book capturing the terror and longing found in the classic fairy tale: at once as familiar as a dream and as evocative as a nightmare".

I would love to see an animated film in this dark style of art, but the plan is to do it live-action, which is fine. Gaiman had this to say in a statement:

"I’m thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us. For me, retelling Hansel and Gretel was a way of telling an old tale in a way that made it immediate and true, and about us, now. It reminds us of how paper thin civilization really is. It’s about hunger, and about families."

The book will be published in the U.S. by Toon Books on October 28th, and in the UK by Bloomsbury on December 11th. I'm a fan of Gaiman's work so I'll definitely be picking up a copy, and, of course, I'm looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out!

We have another trailer for Horrible Bosses 2 for you to watch, and it's pretty damn hilarious. There's actually a good chance this sequel could be better than the first film. I just really like the whole kidnapping angle they went with, and the addition of Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz takes things up a notch. Pine is featured heavily in this new trailer, and the guy shows off his fun comedic skills. He definitely makes a great addition to the already awesome cast that also includes Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis.

Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick (Bateman), Dale (Day) and Kurt (Sudeikis) decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor's adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.

The movie is set to be released on November 26th, and it will bring the laughs.

AMC has released three new photos from The Walking Dead Season 5. They feature Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) looking like they are ready to take on the world. Then we have a couple more with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) looking like a badass. The series returns on October 12th, and I'm sure this next season is going to take these characters into even darker places.

Marvel Superheroes Help Bullied Kids in Comic Variant Covers

As you know, bullying has become a very big issue for kids. My kids recently started school and the bullying has already begun. It's a hurtful part of life that will probably never go away, so we just need to do the best we can to deal with the situations that arise and use them as learning opportunities.

This October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and Marvel has enlisted the help of a few artists and superheroes to support the cause in a series a variant comic book covers. They include the Hulk, Captain America, Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot.

Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief of Marvel Comics, had this to say in a statement:

"The center of Marvel’s storytelling history is the eternal struggle between good and evil, with many of its greatest Super Heroes having to contend with -- and rise above -- bullying, in all its forms. We are proud to join forces with STOMP Out Bullying on its important bullying prevention awareness mission. We hope that all our fans take a moment this month to educate themselves on the need to stop bullying among our youth by checking out the free resources STOMP Out Bullying has to offer.”

Honest Trailers Helped Shape CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

In a recent interview with ColliderCaptain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo talked about some interesting aspects about their development of the movie. One of the more interesting and cool aspects about what they discussed though is how the Honest Trailers web-series from Screen Junkies helped them in shaping the movie into the awesomeness that it is.

A couple of weeks ago, Screen Junkies released an Honest Trailer for The Winter Solider, and they admitted that the movie was actually really freakin' good. Their team had to nitpick to actually find something to complain about. When the directors were asked how they felt about that Honest Trailer, Joe responded:

"Flattered and amused. What’s so funny is that I’m an avid honest trailer watcher.  I love it, it cracks me up. So I think we talked about it in the commentary we used to sit in the room and go, 'this is not going to end up in an honest trailer. This logic isn’t sound enough yet.'  We literally tried to Honest Trailer proof the movie.  Because what Honest Trailers really is, and I’ll say litmus test again, is 'how sound is the logic in your film? How ridiculous are the buys that you’re asking the audience to make?' So we would just comb through the script over and over again and go, 'how do we shore up this logic? How do we shore up this logic?' So it was a very helpful exercise for us.'

I loved that they did everything they could to Honest Trailer proof the movie, and succeeded in doing it. One of the things that was brought up by a lot of fans that wasn't pointed out in the Honest Trailer was how Captain America got his shield back after falling from the Helicarrier. When that was brought up in the conversation Joe said:

"Out of the Potomac?  He’s got a homing beacon on it, it’s very small (laughs).  Clearly he’s had issues with losing it in the past."

As for any deleted scenes in the movie, it turns out there weren't that many. Anthony had this to say about why there wasn't a lot of footage left on the cutting room floor:

"We come from sort of do-it-yourself independent filmmaking so we’re very smart on a producing level about where we spend our money and how we spend our money, and we just wanted to make sure everything we did was gonna end up onscreen so we worked very hard to have a tight script. So by the time we got to shooting—our shooting script is remarkably similar to the final edit of the movie."

When asked if they were holding anything back Joe said:

"That’s all we got. And we feel bad about those scenes because you can make the argument that those four minutes of footage should have stayed in the movie.  But we’re hard on our material. We’re really hard on it.  We like propulsive pacing. We just want to make sure it’s as tight as possible."

There's no way you could do an interview with these guys and not ask about Captain America 3, and this is what Joe teased,

"If you go in my office on the floor, there’s quite a few books in there.  And in fact one of them, which would be a huge spoiler for Cap 3,  I [was just in my office] the other day and I was like, 'why did I leave this out?' You could walk in there and blow the whole thing. We review the compendiums and go back over books, there’s stuff you haven’t read for years. As we kind of comb through the books you go, 'I remember when I was a kid I loved this.'  And then you put a Post-It note in there to remind yourself of cool lines, cool frames, cool tone, you know. I’m sure I have a big Post-It on the famous France line from The Ultimates. It’s all that. It’s all of the iconic moments."

I'm confident that these two directors are going to give fans a spectacular third Captain America film. I love this character, and I'm glad that he's in good hands.

GAME OF THRONES Title Sequence in the Style of Saul Bass

The opening title sequence for HBO's Game of Thrones has been reimagined in the style of legendary graphic designer Saul Bass. The artist worked on several movies throughout his career, both on posters and title designs. A lot of his most famous work came from the 1960s, and you'll see his style from the era in this video. It was created by Milan Vuckovic, and it's really well done. Now I just want to see what a 1960s version of the actual show would look like!

Some of you might be disappointed to hear that Liam Neeson will not reprise his role as Ra's al Ghul in Arrow even though he recently told MTV that he'd gladly play the character again. When asked if he’d reprise the character he gave an overwhelmingly positive answer.

"I would, in a heartbeat, if it came my way, yeah. Very much so."

The CW didn't take advantage of that opportunity, though. Instead they cast an actor by the name of Matt Nable. He's a rugby player who became an actor, and he's starred in films such as Riddick and Killer Elite. The news was announced by the show's star Stephen Amell.

Ra's al Ghul was teased for the first time for Arrow at San Diego Comic-Con in July. You can see that tease here

Arrow is a great series, and it's fun to watch the story and characters expand. It will be interesting to see how they utilize this villainous character in the story they are telling.

First Image of THE SIMPSONS and FUTURAMA Crossover

Homer and Bender face-off in the first image that has been released for The Simpsons and Futurama crossover episode. Futurama was cancelled last year, but it will be brought back to life at least one more time.

Creator of both series, Matt Groening, had this to say in a statement to EW, "That was a really tough one to negotiate, because I had to talk to myself." Simpsons executive producer Al Jean added,

"They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters. We’re always looking for things that are compatible with us, and I thought, ‘Well, what’s more compatible?’ We do a joke, actually, about how similar Bender and Homer look. Like, they just erased Homer’s hair."

According to the report, the episode is called "Simpsorama," and it's a "Terminator-esque story that involves Bart blowing his nose on a sandwich that he places in a time capsule. When that mixes with Milhouse’s rabbit’s foot and some radioactive ooze, it creates a global catastrophe in the future, prompting Bender to travel back in time to kill Bart and prevent this mega-mess.

The opening opening credits will be a Simpsonized tweak of the Futurama title sequence and it will  feature the tagline: "a show out of ideas teams up with a show out of episodes."
The episode will also reunite the Futurama voice cast of Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, Tress MacNeille, and Maurice LaMarche

The episode is set to premiere on November 9th.

THE WALKING DEAD Companion Series Gets a Pilot Order at AMC

Last year, news broke that Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was developing a companion series for The Walking Dead. There haven't been many details about the project, but today we've learned that AMC has officially greenlit a pilot.

The new series will be set in the same post-apocalyptic world of zombies, but it will feature a whole new group of characters that reside in a different location. AMC President Charlie Collier had this to say in a statement::

“Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world. In fact, beyond requests for zombie cameos, it’s the question I get asked the most. Obviously, we all take our stewardship of the original franchise incredibly seriously and we, along with Robert, Gale, David and now Dave, are all proceeding with extreme care in order to ensure that we are offering fans something truly compelling, engaging and distinct. We’re thrilled to be taking this next step with these remarkable partners.”

Dave Erickson (Marco Polo) co-created the spinoff series and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, and he will serve as an executive producer and showrunner.

It will be really interesting to see what challenges other people are facing in another part of the world… wherever that may be.

Here's a superhero infographic that some of you might find interesting. It's called Marvel Vs. DC Costume Clash, and it compares the superhero suits worn in each universe.

A team of people from Fractl asked 1,000 people who they think has the best costume between two similar characters from each universe. Here are the results from a few of their match-ups:

  • A resounding 85% favored the Joker’s costume over the Green Goblin
  • Mr. Fantastic stretched way past Plastic Man to win over our respondents
  • The Avengers barely beat the Justice League

They also analyzed popular heroes and villains from either side based on their costume colors, hair length and color, and capes. The results of the information gathered were turned into the infographic below. Look it over and let us know what you think of the survey results!

Justin Lin In Talks to Direct TRUE DETECTIVE Season 2 Episodes

True Detective creator Nic PIzzolatto is deep in the process on developing the series' second season for HBO. We've got an update on the series from Deadline saying that Fast and Furious director Justin Lin is in talks to direct at least two episodes of the highly anticipated season.

The entire first season was directed by Cary Fukunaga, and he won an Emmy Award for his work on it. This time around the cable network is going to switch it up and bring on multiple directors to develop the series. Lin is a decent choice, he's not the greatest director in the world, but taking on a series like this would be a good exercise for him that will help him in his directing craft.

The second season will be set in California and focus on the investigation of a corrupt city manager who gets murdered amidst a potential groundbreaking transportation deal.

There's no casting set in stone yet, but some of the names that have been rumored include Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn, and Elisabeth Moss. In case you missed it, here's some previously released story information on Season 2:

The second season of True Detective will follow the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who's found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it. They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought.

Caspar's 52-year-old corpse is found on a lonely stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur — satanic symbols etched on his chest. It turns out he had a penchant for rough sex and may have been involved in the occult.

Vaughn is in talks to play Frank Semyon, a former thug-turned-businessman who's working with a local mayor and his political cohorts to spearhead the construction of a high-speed railway system that links Southern California to Northern California in order to reap financial gains from federal grants and land purchases.

[Elisabeth Moss] Moss, who recently played a small-town cop in the similarly themed, “Top of the Lake,” is being eyed to play Ani Bezzerides, a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol.

Farrell is nearing a deal to play Ray Velcoro, who has been damaged by years of turmoil in both his personal and professional lives.

Kitsch is angling for the role of Paul Woodrugh, a handsome, 28-year-old military veteran who has seen his own share of violence and destruction. Forbes, who starred on the first season of The Killing, has been rumored for a part on True Detective, and it's possible she could play either Farrell's ex-wife (a survivor of sexual assault) or Vaughn's charming but mercurial wife.

Lionsgate has released a new "rebel" poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and it features the back of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence). It looks like she's wearing a pretty cool outfit to fight in, as well. I like the nice touch of the Mockingjay wings that her arrows lay between. I imagine we'll get a front view of this image for a poster in the near future.

The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

The Francis Lawrence-directed film hits theaters on November 21st.

Artsist James White has created a very cool set of art that was inspired by geek culture type movies, toys, comics, and TV. We've got art here for Guardians of the Galaxy, Predator, He-Man, The Iron Giant, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars, and more. The art was part of the Celescapes art show at the Bottleneck Gallery. Here's a note from the artist:

"So here is the full spread of all 15 original pieces I created for the show, inspired by the beautiful painted backgrounds of cartoons I watched as a kid. Scooby-Doo, Superfriends, Spider-man, Masters of the Universe… if you don’t know what I’m talking about please dig up some old episodes and scope those backgrounds. Wonderful stuff. So for this show, I wanted the background to be brought to the foreground."

Five New Photos from Kevin Smith's Horror Film TUSK

five-new-photos-from-kevin-smiths-horror-film-tusk

So I just found out that Haley Joel Osment's mom is a teacher at the school my kids go to, and that little tidbit of pointless trivia leads us to the new film that Haley Joel Osment co-stars in, Tusk. The film was directed by Kevin Smith, and boy oh boy does it look interesting. The story stars Michael Parks as a man who is trying to turn another guy played by Justin Long into a freakin' walrus.

We've already seen a disturbing teaser trailer for the movie that you can watch here, and today we have five new photos from the film for you to take a gander at. They feature all of the actors from the movie that were listed above. Poor Justin Long looks like shit. It makes sense as the guy is being put through absolute hell. Johnny Depp also plays a part in the story, but we've seen nothing of him yet.

Here's the full synopsis for the jacked-up looking film that is sure to entertain:

In the twenty years since his influential debut feature, Clerks, Kevin Smith has established himself as a singular voice in the American indie landscape with his wry observations of disaffected youth culture. With his 2011 horror film, Red State, and his new film, Tusk, Smith reinvents himself by bringing his comedic chops to a new, disturbing milieu.

Wallace (Justin Long) co-hosts a popular podcast with his pal Teddy (Haley Joel Osment), focusing on cruel, mocking cringe humour as part of their mission to keep it “real and raunchy.” After his trip to Winnipeg to interview the “Kill Bill Kid” — a teen whose unfortunate samurai-sword video has gone viral — comes up empty, Wallace decides to make the trip worth his while and find a good story north of the forty-ninth parallel. A handwritten flyer he finds in a bar bathroom leads him to a grizzled old swab (Michael Parks) full of tall tales to share from his life of adventure at sea — and this is where Wallace’s voyage to the Great White North descends into straight-up madness.

Smith has always been an expert at easy banter and snappy jokes, but with Tusk he brings his distinctive sensibility to a whole new dimension of terror and the bizarre.

Be warned: even as it deftly delivers on its outlandish and outrageous concept, the film is also aboot how Americans view Canada — so check your patriotic fervour at the door and prepare for a barrage of Canuck jokes and a steaming-hot double-double of strange.
