STEP UP: REVOLUTION - Funniest Trailer You'll See All Day

This first trailer for Step Up: Revolution is ridiculously hilarious! The trailer was released yesterday, and I avoided it like the plague. I wasn't even going to post it, but I ended up breaking down and watching it only to laugh my ass off. It's like a parody comedy film of the last three films that have been made, only it's not. This time it's all about protest art. Do they really expect us to take a movie like this seriously?

Here's the Synopsis:

STEP UP REVOLUTION is the next installment in the worldwide smash STEP UP franchise, which sets the dancing against the vibrant backdrop of Miami. EMILY (Kathryn McCormick) arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer and soon falls in love with SEAN (Ryan Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs, called "The Mob." When a wealthy business man threatens to develop The Mob's historic neighborhood and displace thousandsof people, Emily must band together with Sean and The Mob to turn their performance art into protest art, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.

As much as I enjoyed the ridiculousness of this trailer, I don't need to see the movie. I've seen enough. Check out the trailer and let us know if if make you want to get up and dance!

Updates on BLEECH, THE FLASH and JONNY QUEST

$

Dan Mazeau, the screenwriter of film adaptations of Bleech, The Flash and Johnny Quest recently recently did an interview with IFC in which he gave a little update on each of these projects. He starts off with his current project Bleech

I love ‘Bleach!’ ‘Bleach’ is awesome. It’s been a long process getting to write the script. Getting the rights from the Japanese company that owned them was a complicated process. But early on we set down with Tite Kubo the creator and the publisher of the series, and we had a long meeting, making sure we’re respectful to the property. Nobody wants to, well… Let’s just say that if you enjoyed [the live-action] ‘Dragonball Z’ movie, that’s great, but I thought it was a noble effort that ultimately didn’t succeed. That’s what we’re trying to avoid. We want to make sure this movie lives up to what the manga is.

I’m currently working on ‘Bleach’ and the idea is to set it in Japan and really be respectful to the source material,” he added. “It’s an amazing story. I’ve been shorthanding it as an ‘action-adventure Sixth Sense,’ but obviously on a bigger canvas than that. So I’m incredibly excited about that. It’s a good one.

I really hope it turns out as good as he says it will! This has the potential to be an incredible movie. As for The Flash and Jonny Quest the scripts are done and are just in the process of bringing together the talent to get it up on the big screen. Who knows how long that will take though. Mazeau briefly describes the Flash saying

It’s a matter of a lot of things coming together — the right story and the right filmmaker and the right sort of visual approach to Flash, because he can’t just be a guy who runs fast. That was important to me while I was writing my script. Fingers crossed, though — hopefully there will be some news soon.

Then he goes on to talk about Jonny Quest, which is currently in the process of trying to find a young actor to take on the role, of the classic adventurous Hanna-Barbara character. They obviously need someone who can handle the action-packed aspect of the film as well as the drama. What they need is a young Harrison Ford. Mazeau had this to say about his script,

It’s difficult for a movie to come together. You have to get the right pieces. One of the challenges with ‘Jonny Quest’ is that you have a lead who’s a young kid. The movie stars that are young kids are few and far between, but Dan Lin and the guys over at his production company are working on it and hopefully there will be something soon.

It’s a cool one, though. I think it’s something that could make for a real amazing movie if done right. ‘Jonny Quest’ combines all this amazing wish fulfillment as a kid, but also there’s real danger to it. There’s real weight to it. People die in the ‘Jonny Quest’ cartoons. I think ‘Spy Kids’ was fun, but it’s lighter than what ‘Jonny Quest’ would be. Making sure it has a little edge to it was important to me, and I know it was to Dan and the other producers, too.

Jonny Quest could turn out to be a really awesome movie. It sounds like it will end up being a fun adventure to bring to life on thebig screen. What do you think about what Mazeau had to say about these projects, and which one are you most excited for?

New Banner for Tim Burton's DARK SHADOWS

Here's a new banner for Tim Burton's new film Dark Shadows. The gothic vampire comedy stars Johnny DeppMichelle PfeiferEva Green, Bella Heathcote, Jonny Lee Miller, Gully McGrath, Jackie Earle Haley, Helena Bonham Carter, and Chloe Moretz. You can check out a couple sets of character posters for the film here and here if you want.

Dark Shadows arrives in theaters on May 11th, 2012. I liked what I've seen in the trailers and TV spots that have been released, and I think the movie is going to end up being pretty good!

Here's the Synopsis:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

CHILD'S PLAY Reboot and Spinoff In The Works!

Chucky may be headed back to the big screen! Moviehole reports that there are two Child's Play projects in the works, a remake and a spin-off. The news was revealed during a panel at The Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, North Carolina. The horror and sci-fi convention had a Child's Play reunion panel.

The spin-off project is called Revenge of Chucky, and would involve Chucky’s immediate family. The panel featured Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif and Chris Sarandon. During the panel, Dourif confirmed that "he’s involved in both projects but has not seen a script for the remake yet."

There has been talk of a remake/reboot for several years by Don Mancini and David Kirschner. It will be written and directed by Mancini, and is planned as "a darker and scarier retelling of the original film, but one that will offer new twists and turns."

I enjoyed the first film, but the sequels (like many horror films) went down the tubes. A remake that is done by Mancini is one I would be interested in seeing.

Encouraging Update on ANT-MAN Movie and AVENGERS Sequels

$

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently offered an update on the long-awaited Edgar Wright scripted film adaptation of Marvel's Ant-Man. During the conference he said that the movie was closest its ever been to being made. It's crazy to think the the movie has been in active development for over five years.

It’s somewhere. I’ll just say it’s closer than it’s ever been in its long maybe eight year history, and I usually e-mail Edgar every two or three days and over those eight years its got further away and closer… we are now closer than we’ve ever been. So I hope it will come together shortly.

The movie's eventually going to happen, it's only a matter of time before it does. I just hope after all of this time in preparing and waiting for it, it turns out to be the awesome movie we are all hoping for. Feige went on the talk about the sequel to The Avengers and the possibility of working the Civil War story-line into future installments.

You can obviously see that in the decades and decades of Avengers comics prior to the Civil War event, the conflict between the characters, the differences in world views of all the characters, that led up to what happened in Civil War, certainly that’s in this movie, you can see how different Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are in a great way. In this movie the question is are they going to be able to stop fighting each other long enough to fight the bad guy. Civil War would someday be a great crossover eve but here it’s more in the character interactions than a direct easter egg.

I thing that would be awesome. I'm excited for all future Marvel movies, and even though I haven't seen The Avengers yet, I'm excited as hell to see what the sequel would end up being like.

Here's a one-of-a-kind awesome Star Wars wedding band inspired by the Lightsaber. The ring was designed by Homer Liwag who is taking geek jewelry to a badass new level of cool. Unfortunately, as it's a one-of-a-kind, you probably won't be able to get one. I guess if you really want it you can make your own, or pay someone to make it for you. RAMPAGE Game Adaptation gets a Screenwriter

$

New Line Cinema has hired screenwriter Ryan Engle to write the the upcoming feature film adaptation of the classic 1980's video game Rampage. The studio is hoping to take this franchise and turn it into a epic film on a small budget.

For those of you who haven't played the video game it revolves around three human characters who mutate into giant monsters that includes a giant Godzilla lizard, a werewolf and a King Kong gorilla. The three go on a rampage destroying big cities while fight off the military, and of course eating people. I loved playing this game growing up, I played it all the time, but I never beat it. It seemed like there was just an endless pit of levels, but it was so much fun!

There really isn't much to the story. There's a couple other giant monster movies in the works such as Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim and of course Gareth Edwards Gozilla reboot. It will be interesting to see how this compares to those other films. I'm not really expecting it to be a great film, but I hope it at least ends up being entertaining.

Engle is an upcoming screenwriter who worked with director Louis Leterrier on a rewrite of his film A Killing on Carnival Row. He also wrote a script for a thriller called On a Clear Day that got him noticed. The Black List script is currently being developed for director Jaume Collet-Sera (Unknown).

Do you have ideas for the film you'd like to throw out?

JOHN CARTER DVD/Blu-Ray Art Revealed

Though it had no release date scheduled, Walt Disney Pictures has already released the DVD/Blu-Ray/Blu-Ray 3D art for one of their most NOTABLE films so far this year, Andrew Stanton's John Carter.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. This project started in animation and it took an animation director to bring it to life. Stanton may not get all the praise that fellow Pixar alumni Brad Bird got for his live-action debut, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but he does his best here even though the heart of his animated films aren’t here. Another thing that doesn’t help is that there are times in the film where it gets slow and expositional. Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins both contribute fine performances. Although his character is featured prominently in the trailers and TV spots, Willem Dafoe’s Tars Tarkas, although a very good use of performance capture, is hardly in the film at all; though he does offer the film a lot of humor. One of the highlights of the film is John Carter’s alien pet companion, Woola. He is just so darn cute that you can’t help but smile when you see him.

The bonus features on the Blu-Ray include:

- Disney Second Screen

- 360 Degrees of John Carter

- Deleted Scene with Optional Commentary by Andrew Stanton

- Barsoom Bloopers

- 100 Years in the Making

- Audio Commentary with the Filmmakers

The Blu-Ray 3D features all of the above features, the Blu-Ray, the DVD and a Digital Copy of the Film. I don't have a clue when this movie comes out, but I will definitely purchase it on Blu-Ray. Perhaps, like in the film, John Carter will soon have another life...

HARD CANDY Director David Slade to take on HANNIBAL Series

David Slade, the director of films such as Hard Candy, 30 Day of Night, and Twilight: Eclipse has been brought on board to executive produce and direct NBC's new thriller series Hannibal. This isn't the first series that Slade has worked on, he's also directed episodes of Awake and Breaking Bad.

Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, upcoming Mockingbird Lane) is set tp write and produce the show. Hugh Dancy has been cast in the role of the young FBI agent Will Graham. No casting has been done for the lead role of Hannibal Lecter, but I imagine there will be an announcement soon.

The show is based on Thomas Harris’ best-selling novel Red Dragon. The story will follow Graham "as he tries to solve a series of murders and enlists the help of brilliant psychiatrist Dr. Lecter — unaware the good doctor is secretly a cannibalistic killer." NBC has ordered ordered 13 episodes for the first season.

This has the potential to be an incredible new series, and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I think Slade is a talented director, and that he's a perfect fit for a series like this.

Agent Coulson has Captain America "Man Crush" in THE AVENGERS

$

0

According to The Avengers director Joss Whedon the releationship between Agent Coulson and Captain America is the funniest relationship in the movie. He expalins this relationship, and how the scenes bewtween these two character are some of his favorite scenes in the movie.

Coulson is the face of S.H.I.E.L.D in a way that Nick Fury isn’t. Nick Fury stays in the background pulling the strings, while Coulson is the guy in the trenches alongside ‘The Avengers.’ His relationship with Steve Rogers is one of my favorites. There are so many characters in this film with a dry wit, so I wanted to find some other dynamic Coulson could have with Captain America and it hit me, ‘Oh my god, he’s a fan boy!’ Giving him a man crush on Captain America not only lent itself to some of the funniest scenes, but also established the type of relationship they had, which led to the whole trading card run in the scene, which is possibly my favorite thing in the movie.

What a brilliantly hilarious idea! I can easily see Coulson having a hard fanboy "man crush" on Steve Rogers! It really fits his character perfectly, and there's no doubt that it brought an awesomely fun dynamic to the movie. Greg Clark, who plays Coulson in the Marvel films, had this to say about his character,

What I love about Coulson is how he has evolved from what seemed like an annoying bureaucrat pestering Tony Stark for an interview in ‘Iron Man.’ As the Marvel film universe has expanded it’s been a great thrill to see him become a much more formidable force who’s kind of hiding in plain sight. Every time I get a Marvel script, I’m very excited to find out what new layers to his character and duties are revealed and it certainly has culminated with ‘The Avengers,’ where he is heavily involved with trying to pull the team together.

The Avengers initiative has not necessarily been accepted by the World Security Council and is looked at with some great suspicion. The Super Heroes are viewed as dangerous and uncontrollable and I don’t think anybody, including Nick Fury, is fully convinced yet that The Hulk and Thor are good people to have around, based on what has gone down in the past. So in the time leading up to The Avengers, a major focus of S.H.I.E.L.D. is about developing the Tesseract and finding out a way to harness and use its vast power.

Everything I've seen and heard about this movie is flat out fantastic. I have no doubt that it will deliver the fans everything we want and hope to see. After this movie, Joss Whedon will be one of the most sought out film directors in Hollywood.
