alan-rickman-stars-in-this-fantastic-short-film-dust

I've got a really awesome short film for you to watch today called "Dust," which stars Alan Rickman and Jodie Whittaker. Rickman plays a man who follows a young girl and her mother to their house. What happens at the end of this film is a complete surprise. It has one of those endings that you don't see coming, and it's freakin' brilliant. I won't say anymore, just watch the short. Thanks to io9 for the tip!

This GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Concept Art Shows Very Different Designs

Concept artist Justin Sweet created this amazingly cool series of art for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movie. These are extremely different character designs than what we ended up seeing in the movie. These show a darker, more hardened version of what could have been. I love this set of art, and it would have been cool to see what these would have looked like on the big screen. Don't get me wrong, I love what the movie gave us, but I'm really happy that I got to see these alternate designs.

Thanks to io9!

Trailer for THE CONJURING Spin-Off Horror Film ANNABELLE

trailer-for-the-counjuring-spin-off-horror-film-annabelle

A lot of people that I've talked to have said that the Annabelle doll featured in The Conjuring was the scariest part of the movie. A ton of audience members felt the same way, which is why Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema decided to make a standalone spin-off film that focuses on the evil haunted doll.

The doll actually exists and is currently locked away in an occult museum in Connecticut. The doll is visited twice a month by a priest who blesses it. Why anyone would want to keep a doll like this around is beyond me. It looks like a wonderfully creepy film, though!

The supernatural thriller Annabelle begins before the evil was unleashed.

John Form has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia - a beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia’s delight with Annabelle doesn't last long.

On one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is now... Annabelle.

You can watch the previously released teaser trailer here. The James Wan-produced horror movie is set to be released on October 3rd. I won't lie… the last part of this trailer sent chills down my spine.

Documentary About the Fan-Made STAR WARS: DESPECIALIZED EDITION

Documentary for the Fan-Made STAR WARS: DESPECIALIZED EDITION

A couple days ago a rumor hit the internet that Disney and Lucasfilm were working on releasing the original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray. Who knows if that's really happening or not, but there's a huge Star Wars fan out there who isn't waiting around to see if it happens.

The fan goes by the name of Harmy, and he's currently in the process of developing his own version of the original trilogy. It's called Star Wars: Despecialized Edition, and he's making an attempt to take the original release that doesn't have all the new edits and special effects of the "Special Editions," and clean up the footage to make it better suited to high-resolution displays. He's also upgrading the sound! This documentary shows the multiple sources that he's using to make the film, and it's really quite spectacular to see the upgrades that he's made. As you'll see the stuff he's doing is incredibly noticeable.

One of the main things I love about this is how he points out the the “best possible” releases of the film that are available right now on Complete Saga Blu-ray are still ridiculously flawed. Watch the short doc and see for yourself! Thanks to Geeks Are Sexy for the tip!

Katie Holmes Is a Teacher Vigilante in MISS MEADOWS Trailer

Katie Holmes has taken on a film project and a role that is very different from anything that she has ever done. The movie is called Miss Meadows, and in it she plays a proper, cute, perky elementary school teacher who moonlights as a ruthless vigilante. I've always liked Holmes, and this definitely looks like an interesting project for her. I think it has potential to be really good, and it's a movie I'd go out to see. It will be fun to see Holmes kick some ass! Miss Meadows hits theaters on November 14th.

The 10 Best Improvised Scenes in Film

top-10-best-improvised-scenes-in-film

Even though scripts play an incredibly important part of the movie making process, sometimes a little improvisation is just what a movie scene needs to take it from good to great. CineFix has put together a fantastic video that highlights the 10 greatest improvised scenes in film history. I think they did a great job putting this together, and I can't think of anything that I would add to it. Check it out! I've included the list of films mentioned in the video below.

Bridesmaids (2011)
A lot of this movie was the talented comedic actresses in the cast going off book, but Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone’s “Air Marshall” exchange takes the cake.

Apocalypse Now (1979)
Marlon Brando’s performance as Col Kurtz was largely made up on the spot. And while we don’t endorse actors not learning their lines, we can’t fault what came of it in this instance…

Iron Man (2008)
Robert Downey, Jr surprised everyone in his comeback performance as Tony Stark. Everyone - because most of what he said wasn’t in the script.

The Jazz Singer (1927)
Al Jolson’s improvised dialogue pretty much invented the entire concept of talking in movies. Think about that.

Caddyshack (1980)
Bill Murray’s been giving improvised performances his whole career, but his hilarious ad libbed “Cinderella Story” on the golf course made Caddyshack the movie it is today.

Goodfellas (1990)
The “Funny How?” exchange between Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta was a genius bit of collaboration between Joe Pesci and Martin Scorsese - and no one else in the scene.

The Breakfast Club (1985)
The climactic scene in which the teenagers finally bond over how they came to where they were was based entirely on the actors’ knowledge of the characters. And it worked.

This is Spinal Tap (1984)
It goes to 11.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)
The home invasion scene never came together, until Malcolm McDowell was given reign to improvise on the next take. His brutal song-and-dance number makes this one of the most chilling scenes in movie history.

Robin Williams
From “GOOOOD Morning Vietnam” to Night at the Museum, Robin Williams was master of improv, and his riffs enriched every role he ever inhabited. We’ll miss his unique voice for years to come.

Harry Potter Spin-off FANTASTIC BEASTS to be Directed by Franchise Director David Yates

The director of the last four Harry Potter movies, David Yates, is coming back to direct the spin-off film that Warner Bros. has planned called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The studio announced the new Harry Potter universe project last September, and J.K. Rowling is currently writing the screenplay for it. The story will be a trilogy set seven decades before Harry Potter’s adventure ever begins, and it's based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name and will follow the adventures of its author, Newt Scamander. When talking about the film, Rowling said,

“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.”

The news of Yates involvement comes from Variety, who makes a point of saying no deal has been made, but insiders confirm both sides are in negotiations. Sources also confirm the director has agreed to make the film. The studio obviously wanted to go with someone who was familiar with the franchise. They were also in talks with Alfonso Cuaron, who helmed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but he ultimately passed on it.

Yates is currently directing Tarzan, which will be in production until November. After that he'll start developing Fantastic Beasts. The first film in the planned trilogy is scheduled to hit theaters on November 18th, 2016.

NBC Developing THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE as a TV Series

NBC and producers John Wells and Arnold Kopelson are set to develop a TV series based on the 1997 feature film The Devil’s Advocate. The network has committed to a pilot that will be written by Matt Venne (Bag Of Bones, The Exorcism Of Molly Harley).

The series will center on a public defender who joins a law firm that is run by the Devil himself. In the film, the young lawyer was played by Keanu Reeves, and Al Pachino played his boss. Don't expect them to reprise their roles in the series, of course NBC will recast them.

I thought the movie was really good, and I think a TV series based on it and the book it was adapted from has a lot of potential.

Marvel Heroes' Height Comparison Chart

HalloweenCostumes.com released this fun chart that give us the size comparisons of several popular Marvel superheroes. It was created by illustrator Kate Willaert, and it's really a great reference to have. I think a lot of people forget just how short Wolverine is since Hugh Jackman plays the character in the movies.

Ken Jeong Sets out to Kill David Hasselhoff in New Comedy

Ken Jeong (The Hangover, Community) has signed on to star in a comedy currently known as Untitled Celebrity Death Pool. In it, he will play a nightclub owner who is in debt to a loan shark, so he sets out to win his long-running celebrity death pool by killing his chosen celebrity... David Hasselhoff.

What makes this even more awesome is the fact that Hasselhoff himself is also on board to co-star in the film. He's also producing it with WWE Studios President Michael Luisi and Hyde Park’s Amritraj, Michele Berk, Patrick Hughes, and Warren Zide.

If you didn't think this news could get any better, you are wrong, because Hulk Hogan also signed on for a role! This film seems like it will be full of cameos, but the actors mentioned here are the only ones that have been revealed so far.

The movie will be directed by Diary Of A Mad Black Woman helmer Darren Grant from a spec script by Peter Hoare. This sounds like it has potential to be a ridiculously entertaining movie.

Chris Pratt Dresses Up as Star-Lord and Goes to Children's Hospital

Chris Pratt previously admitted to taking his Star-Lord costume from the Guardians of the Galaxy set. His plan was to use the costume to bring some joy to the lives of kids who are in the hospital. Pratt doesn't just talk the talk, but he walks the walk as well. He took what he said he would do and put it into action.

E! reports that Pratt coordinated an event with Marvel and Children's Miracle Network Hospital to provide a special screening of Guardians of the Galaxy for an audience who may have not been able to see it due to their illnesses. They screened the film yesterday for the patients, families, and staff of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. As you can see in the photos, Pratt also came out in-character to spend time with the kids afterwards as Star-Lord.

The photo above was released by the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and it shows the actor dressed up as Star-Lord and hanging out with the kids. He spent three hours, playing with the them, taking photos, signing autographs, and giving out movie-themed toys.

In the photo below Pratt is seen playing with Dylan "Lego Kid" Prunty whose Make-A-Wish wish was for a LEGO replica of the hospital, which can be seen in the background. Pratt reportedly reenacted scenes from The LEGO Movie with Prunty, and also signed some of Prunty's prized swag.

It's kind of hard not to get a little choked up as I write this. Pratt is truly a stand-up guy.

Steven Spielberg to Develop MINORITY REPORT as TV Series

steven-spielberg-to-develop-minority-report-as-tv-series

Minority Report is one of my favorite Steven Spielberg movies, and I'm kind of exited to tell you that the filmmaker will be bringing his 2002 sci-fi story to the small screen. The news comes from The Wrap, who also reports that the series will be written by Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein and produced by Amblin Television.

The story is based on a futuristic story written by Philip K. Dick, and the film starred Tom Cruise as the head of “PreCrime,” which is a special police unit that uses three "precogs” to identify and arrest murderers before they commit their crimes. Cruise's character is forced to go on the run when he's accused of a future murder.

The report says that the weekly series will likely "focus on the elite PreCrime unit, with Spielberg expected to target a name actor for the lead, just as he did with Halle Berry on CBS’ sci-fi series Extant."

There have been a ton of movies that have been getting TV adaptations, and most of them have turned out great. Fargo is one of the best that I've seen. I actually enjoy it more than I did the film, and I loved the film. I can see Minority Report making a very cool engaging series.

There's no information yet on what network the series will land on, but I'm sure it won't have any issues finding a home. It will be interesting to see who they bring in to star in the series, but I hope it's a solid actor — it's Spielberg, the guy can probably get whoever he wants.

Spielberg is currently prepping his untitled Cold War thriller starring Tom Hanks and from there he'll develop his adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG. After that he's expected to put some focus on the development of the Minority Report TV series. As for Borenstein, he is also writing Skull Island for Legendary Pictures.

Trailer for the Sci-Fi Western YOUNG ONES with Michael Shannon

This sci-fi wester called Young Ones looks like an incredible film. The movie is set in near the future where water is very scarce. A teenage boy sets out on a journey to protect his family and survive. The film comes from writer and director Jake Paltrow, and it's "told in three chapters, which inventively layers Greek tragedy over an ethereal narrative that’s steeped deeply in the values of the American West."

Not only does it have a great story, but it has an amazing cast, as well, that includes Michael Shannon, Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. I'm really excited about this movie, and you can read the synopsis for it below:

YOUNG ONES is set in a near future when water has become the most precious and dwindling resource on the planet, one that dictates everything from the macro of political policy to the detailed micro of interpersonal family and romantic relationships. The land has withered into something wretched. The dust has settled on a lonely, barren planet. The hardened survivors of the loss of Earth’s precious resources scrape and struggle. Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) lives on this harsh frontier with his children, Jerome (Kodi Smit McPhee)and Mary (Elle Fanning). He defends his farm from bandits, works the supply routes, and hopes to rejuvenate the soil. But Mary's boyfriend, Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult), has grander designs. He wants Ernest's land for himself, and will go to any length to get it. From writer/director Jake Paltrow comes a futuristic western, told in three chapters, which inventively layers Greek tragedy over an ethereal narrative that’s steeped deeply in the values of the American West.

Young Ones hits theaters on October 17th 2014.

Trailer for the Revenge Thriller IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE with Stellan Skarsgård

Stellan Skarsgård (Thor, The Avengers) stars in an upcoming Norwegian revenge thriller called In Order of Disappearance. This looks like a great movie. For as dark as it looks, they still manage to throw in some comedic elements. The movie was directed by Norwegian filmmaker Hans Petter Moland (Comrade Pedersen, A Somewhat Gentle Man) from a script by Kim Fupz Aakeson. Here's a description of the story:

Introverted and hard-working snow plow driver Nils (Stellan Skarsgard) has just been named Citizen of The Year, when he receives news that his son has died of a heroin overdose. Disbelieving the official report, Nils soon uncovers evidence of the young man’s murder—a victim in a turf war between the local crime boss, known as "The Count", and his Serbian rivals. Armed with heavy machinery and a good dose of beginner’s luck, Nils embarks upon a quest for revenge that soon escalates into a full-blown underworld gang war, with the body count spiralling ever higher and higher.

The film premiered in Berlin and opens in the UK this fall, but has yet to get a US release date.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Gives SANDMAN Movie Update

0
0

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is easily one of the busiest and most talented young actors working in Hollywood, and he's been branching out in other aspects of the business. On top of acting, he's currently running his HitRECord web project, he made his directorial debut with Don Jon, and he was an executive producer on Looper. He's now looking at developing the long awaited big-screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman, which he is looking to star in and direct.

In a recent interview with Moviefone, Gordon-Levitt gave an update on the film saying that he's been working on the script with David Goyer and Gaiman. He explains,

"It's a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan Batman movies. It's really exciting. There's not a script yet, we're still kind of working it out because it's such a complicated adaptation because Sandman wasn't written as novels. Sin City was written as a novel. Sandman is 75 episodic issues. There's a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt Sandman for the past 20 years….You know, we're still in the middle of it, so I don't want to make any claims, but I think we've got the right ideas."

I can only imagine how hard it is for these guys to come up with the right story to make the fans happy, but I think they have a great team of talent working on it, and if anyone can pull it off, it's these guys. They also recently brought in screenwriter Jack Thorne, who recently adapted Nick Hornby's dark comedic novel A Long Way Down, to help draft Sandman's new screenplay.

Obviously the project is still very far away from becoming a reality as they don't even have a script yet. The project won't even get a greenlight from Warner Bros. until that is done.

The Sandman comic series was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. But, it wasn't until Neil Gaiman came along and wrote the series that it really became popular. The 75+ issue comic arc ran from January of 1989 to March of 1996. The studio has been trying to get a movie made since as far back as 1996.

The story focuses on Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreaming, a deity who personifies dreams. Gaiman also introduced the Endless, a group of powerful brothers and sisters named Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire, and Delirium (as well as Dream).

Modern Style Trailer for 1990s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

GT reader Jared Kaplan sent us this modern style trailer that he cut together for the classic 1990s version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched this movie recently, and it was so much better that what I remembered. Maybe because the most recent TMNT movie sucked so bad. The original film had such a solid story and the character development was great. The movie was also really dark, and I love that about it. If you haven't seen this movie in awhile, maybe this trailer will get you to watch it again.

Akiva Goldsman to Write Script for THE RING 3D

akiva-goldsman-to-write-script-for-the-ring-3d

About a month ago it was announced that Paramount Pictures would be making a third installment of The Ring, hiring F. Javier Gutiérrez to direct it. We've now learned that the studio is in talks with Academy Award winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to write a new draft of the script for the movie, which according to Deadline will be called The Ring 3D

As much as I've enjoyed this horror franchise, I can't help but roll my eyes at that stupid-ass title. I don't really care the the movie is going to be in 3D, almost everything is these days, so that's not surprising. But throwing it in the title is just ridiculous.

There are no details on the story yet, but I'm sure it will involve Samara terrorizing a new generation of people with the video tape of death. Goldsman is obviously an incredibly talented screenwriter, and I'm not surprised that he would be interested in taking on a project like this, as he's also a producer on the Paranormal Activity films. I guess he has got some good ideas for it. Regardless of the title, this could turn out to be a solid horror film.

Watch Robin Williams Voice Genie for Disney's ALADDIN

Robin Williams truly was a comedic genius, and you get to see some of that genius shine through in this old featurette that was released for Disney's Aladdin. It focuses on the voice performances of the film, and near the end of it you get to see how they got Williams on board to star in the film, and you get to see him in action perfecting this amazing character he brought to life. Williams put a ton of energy into this performance, and you'll see him jumping around and having a lot of fun in his sound booth. Everything he did translated perfectly for the big screen. In my opinion, Genie is the most entertaining character that Disney ever dreamed up.
