Sigourney Weaver has joined Liam Neeson and Felicity Jones in a fantasy film called A Monster Calls, which is based on Patrick Ness’ award-winning children's novel.

The film is being directed by Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible), and the story follows "a young boy who attempts to deal with bullying at the hands of his classmates, and his mother's terminal illness, by escaping into a fantastical world through the guidance of a tree monster."

Weaver will play the boy’s grandmother, Jones is playing the boys mother, and Neeson is playing the monster. I really like the concept of the story, and the cast they've brought together to bring it to life so far is fantastic. The movie is set to be released in October 2016.

FX has renewed Guillermo del Toro's vampire drama The Strain for a second season. It comes with a 13-episode order, and it will premiere in 2015.

We are 6-weeks into the first season's 13-episode run, and so far it's been great! I've been enjoying the series, and I think that it will get even better over time. FX CEO John Landgraf had this to say in a statement:

“We’ve never had any doubts about The Strain. Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more.”

Del Toro, who directed the pilot episode and co-wrote the books with Chuck Hogan, added,

"I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus! Working with Carlton, Chuck and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes — the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species."

Cuse went on to say,

"I am grateful for all the blood, sweat and tears (but mostly blood) given to the project by all involved, and I could not be more excited to continue telling this epic story."

They've all been do a great job with the series, and I'm excited to see where they'll take the story in Season 2.

CineFix has reimagined Robert Rodriguez's first Sin City film as a classic video game for their 8-Bit Cinema series. The movie would have made a fun video game. I really enjoy these videos, and they make me wish a lot of these movies they give the 8-Bit treatment to had actual playable versions of these games.

Mark Wahlberg in Talks to Star in DEEPWATER HORIZON

Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star in a new thriller from Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment called Deepwater Horizon. The film will be based on the BP oil rig explosion that took place off the Gulf of Mexico back in 2010. The explosion caused the largest accidental oil spill in human history and was the biggest environmental disaster in U.S. history.

The story will be adapted from a New York Times article called “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour,” which "highlights the courage of those who worked on the oil rig when it blew, killing 11 and injuring 16 others."

According to Deadline, Wahlberg would take on the role of the No. 2 manager on the oil rig, and the film will give audiences an account of what happened behind-the-scenes in the 48 hours leading up to and the day of the disastrous explosion. "It revisits the acts of heroism that followed in trying to rescue men in the water, stories not known to the general public." Wahlberg seems like the perfect actor for a role like this.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing the film, and they are looking to start production in late spring/early summer. It should make for a great movie.

Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis stars in the latest Homemade Movie from CineFix, which features the horrifying transformation scene from the classic film American Werewolf in London. You can tell they had a ton of fun making this video and love the homemade effects used to bring the scene to life. What brings this video full circle in the fact that Max's dad John Landis was the director of the the original movie. I also included comparison and behind-the-scenes videos.

Extended TV Spot for the Horror Film OUIJA

Universal Pictures has released an extended TV spot for their horror film Ouija, which follows a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. I guess this is the kind of stuff that happens when you mess with the devil and his minions.

I always thought that a movie centered around a Ouija board could make for a really cool horror movie. I have yet to see a good one, though, and this Michael Bay-produced film doesn't look like it's going to be very good either. It's just another wasted opportunity to make a terrifying Ouija board movie.

The film was directed by Stiles White, and it stars Olivia Cooke, Douglas Smith, Bianca Santos, Daren Kagasoff, Vivis Colombetti, Ana Coto, and Erin Moriarty. The movie is set to be released on October 24th.

This amazingly detailed steampunk LEGO AT-AT from Star Wars was created by LEGO Artist markus19840420 for the MOC Madness competition called Steam Wars. He only had seven days to build the AT-AT Walker, and I’m thoroughly impressed by what he came up with in such a short period of time. This is so good looking that it should be a real LEGO play set that we can buy.

Sneak Peek for DOOMED! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's THE FANTASTIC FOUR

new-trailer-for-doomed-the-untold-story-of-roger-cormans-the-fantastic-four

A a three and a half minute sneak peek has been released for the documentary DOOMED! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four. The film tells the story of producer Roger Corman's attempt to bring The Fantastic Four to the big screen in 1994. Over the years, the film has gained a cult following from a bootlegged version of the movie that leaked.

For the longest time we've heard that the only motivation behind this Fantastic Four movie was so that the studio could keep the rights, but there's more to it than that. As you'll see in the trailer, the cast and crew really did try to make the best possible movie they could for under a million dollars.

Marty Langford is directing the documentary, and it looks like it's going to be packed full of interesting information that we never knew. I like that there is a trend of people making documentaries about these failed movie productions, and I hope we see more of them.

Here's an explanation of why the documentary was made. Below that is the sneak peek that gives you a taste of what the doc will entail.

There are 336 names in the end crawl credits of the 1994 film, ‘The Fantastic Four’.  And though owners of the bootleg version of the film may appreciate them, the artists and craftspeople who created the movie have never been properly recognized.

And that’s too bad.

‘The Fantastic Four’ has never been viewed legally by anyone in the world, other than those directly involved in the production. The negative presumably sits, to this day, on some shelf in some facility, both gathering dust and fated to become it.

So – what are we going to do about that?

For starters, we have interview commitments from EVERY principal cast and crew member. And based on the pre-interviews we’ve conducted, this documentary is going to be explosive!

-When did the cast and crew discover the film would be shelved?
-What changed from script to production based on character rights (just who *is* The Jeweler?), budget, and time constraints?
-How much control did Marvel wield over the movie? Before it was made and after it was shelved?
-Is a legitimate release still possible?
-Who are today’s A-list actors who auditioned but didn’t make the cut?

For the first time in over 20 years, the TRUE account of this controversial cult classic will be revealed!

And it’s a hell of a story.

There's no word on when the doc will be released, but it will be hitting film festivals soon.

Trailer for Nicolas Cage's Period Action Film OUTCAST

The trailer for Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen's upcoming fantasy action film Outcast has been released, and it actually looks good, which is something I haven't said about a Cage film in a very long time. On top of that, it seems like I haven't seen Christensen in a movie forever, so it's good to see that he found something to do. It doesn't look like the greatest movie in history, but it should provide some solid entertainment.

The film is set in 12th century China, and it follows a mysterious warrior who teams up with the daughter and son of a deposed Chinese emperor to defeat their cruel uncle, who wants them dead.

The movie was directed by stunt pro Nick Powell, who worked on films such as The Bourne Identity and Resident Evil: Retribution. There are a few really cool-looking shots in the trailer, and it looks like he did a decent job of bringing this story to life. Thanks to Deadline for the trailer.

Frank Miller on Christopher Nolan's DARK KNIGHT Trilogy

During an interview with Playboy, legendary comic book writer Frank Miller talked about what he thought of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. Miller is the writer of some incredible comics book stories such as Ronin, Daredevil: Born Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, and 300. The Dark Knight Returns is one of my favorite comics of all time.

It's really interesting to read what Miller thinks about the movies that were based on characters that he's written for over the years. I was really surprised to learn that he has never watched any Batman movie all the way through. Here's an excerpt from the interview where he also addresses the Daredevil and Elektra films, as well as his love for Batman and his hate for Superman.

PLAYBOY: There’s a consensus that Daredevil and Elektra, two movies adapted from comics you wrote, were lousy. Do you agree with that opinion?

MILLER: When people come out with movies about characters I’ve worked on, I always hate them. I have my own ideas about what the characters are like. I mean, I can’t watch a Batman movie. I’ve seen pieces of them, but I generally think, No, that’s not him. And I walk out of the theater before it’s over.

PLAYBOY: Does that include the Christopher Nolan Batman movies?

MILLER: It includes all of them. I’m not condemning what he does. I don’t even understand it, except that he seems to think he owns the title Dark Knight. [laughs] He’s about 20 years too late for that. It’s been used.

PLAYBOY: Nolan’s last two Batman movies each grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Does any of that money make its way to you?

MILLER: No. If money’s owed me, I wouldn’t put it on him or any other author. To be sitting here whining and mewling and puking about that sort of thing…let other people do that.

PLAYBOY: A lot of Dark Knight readers think you love Batman and hate Superman. Any truth to that?

MILLER: The Dark Knight series is all from Batman’s point of view. But if you look at Dark Knight 2, you’ll see a Superman who’s much calmer than the one in the first Dark Knight. Batman and Superman are dead opposites. I love Superman. Do I love Batman more? They’re not people. They’re only lines on paper.

I spent a lot of time back in the day playing GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64. The game is based on the movie that starred Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. The actor was recently a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and during the show, Fallon fulfilled his dream of playing GoldenEye 007 on the N64 with Brosnan. It is actually really fun watching these two guys play the game. I would love a chance to play GoldenEye 007 with Brosnan!

Jaimie Foxx Was Approached to Play LUKE CAGE

During an interview with IGN, Jaimie Foxx revealed that he was approached to play Luke Cage. He also discussed his superhero fandom and where it spawned from. He also talks about why Spider-Man is his favorite superhero.

As for Luke Cage, all he says is that he was approached to play him back in the day but that it didn't work out at the time. I really like the idea of Foxx as Cage. I think he would still be an awesome choice for the role.

Marvel is currently moving forward with Luke Cage as a series on Netflix, but if that series is a hit, I guess there is always a chance the character could find his way to the big screen, he just most likely won't be played by Foxx. The actor has also been wanting to play Spawn for Todd McFarlane for years, and hopefully one day that happens. You can watch the interview below.

DEAD RISING Movie Adaptation Has a Director

A couple of months ago Legendary Pictures announced that they would be developing a digital feature adaptation of the hit zombie video game Dead Rising. The film is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers), and they've hired Leprechaun: Origins director Zach Lipovsky to helm the project.

The story takes place during a massive zombie outbreak. "When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy."

It's basically every zombie movie rolled into one. I love zombie movies, so more zombie stuff doesn't bother me. I've also enjoyed playing this game, and it could make for a great and entertaining flick if it's done right.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy producer Tim Carter wrote the script for the 90 minute movie, and it will premiere exclusively on Crackle in the US and will also be distributed internationally in both episodic and feature format by Content Media Corp. Dead Rising will also be released on SVOD, DVD, VOD, and TV after its run on Crackle.

How Heavy Is Thor's Hammer?

how-heavy-is-thors-hammer

According to versions of Marvel Comics and the Thor movie, the hammer of Thor, Mjölnir, was forged within the heart of a dying star, and it is composed of a metal called Uru, which is only found in Asgard.

So just how heavy is Mjölnir? The Uru version is said to weigh 42.3 pounds, but does it really? We all know that the only person who can possess the hammer and power of Thor is someone who is deemed worthy. The enchantment that was placed on the Hammer by Odin prevents other people from using it. Is that really the case though? Or is it made of material just too damn heavy to lift without some sort of god-like strength?

We have a great video from Vsauce3 to share with you today that explores the science behind the weight of Thor's Hammer, and how just dropping it could cause global destruction.

Creepy Teaser Trailer Hammer's THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH

Hammer has released a fantastically eerie trailer for their upcoming horror sequel The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death. The movie tells a different story with a new cast that includes Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Helen McCrory (Skyfall), and Phoebe Fox (Switch). Daniel Radcliffe's character is not a part of this story, but the creepy old house is! I really liked the first movie, and I'm sure the sequel will be just as good. Here's a description of the story:

England, 1941. With London in the midst of the blitz, two teachers evacuate a group of schoolchildren to the abandoned Eel Marsh House. Seeking safety from the bombs in the remote coastal location, the group instead find themselves facing an evil far more frightening when their arrival awakens the Woman in Black.

The film will be released in UK on February 13th, 2015, but doesn't have distribution in the United States yet.
