AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON – Drone Prop Photo

0
0

Twitter user @antman8o8 took this photo while leaving Comic-Con and it appears to be an Ultron Drone from Avengers: Age of Ultron. Obviously the Drones and Ultron will be CGI so this is probably used to reference lighting while on set. If you haven't see the full poster of Ultron Drones fighting the Avengers, make sure to check it out. Via Nailbiter111 at CBM.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will become sentient May 1st, 2015 (USA).

BATMAN ’66 and BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Mondo Posters

0

Here are a few Mondo posters for two classic Batman series, the ‘60s Batman television series and the ’90s cartoon Batman: The Animated Series. Unfortunately, all three have already sold out of their limited edition prints. I need a good place to cry… To the Batcave!

The ’66 Batman variant poster featuring Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo with thugs at their feet and the Rogues Gallery above them was created by Martin Ansin. We’ve featured many of Ansin’s Mondo prints over the years, including eye-catching designs for Tron and Tron: Legacy, Ender’s Game, and Iron Man 3.

The Batman: The Animated Series regular and variant prints featuring Harvey Dent, a.k.a. Two Face, were done by Phantom City Creative.

Rian Johnson Sort of Talks STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

0
0

On Saturday, director Rian Johnson Skyped in to join Filmspotting’s 500th episode. He is in San Francisco, working on Star Wars: Episode VIII — A New Hope for a Good Star Wars Movie (that’s the official subtitle, you hadn’t heard?), and he mostly didn’t say anything about the project, except, “I’m really excited about all the things I can’t tell you.”

While we were all overjoyed when Disney and LucasFilm hired the indie director to helm the second and third films in the new trilogy, it left some people scratching their heads. Before he was hired he seemed uninterested in doing it, so why did he take the job? “The thought of it made me so completely joyfully happy. I wanted to to play in this world, of literally the first movie my dad put me in the car to see,” he said.

And how did he get the job? “I can only assume it was a clerical error, like in the movie Brazil. There’s a Brian Johnson out there who is really mad.” Johnson is one of several talented young directors hired to develop new Star Wars stories, joining Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank, who are each developing standalone Star Wars movies. The studio is putting their faith in upcoming directors who initially found success outside of the studio system, rather than turning to the more staid members of the DGA. It’s a move that I find exciting.

Johnson directed indie breakouts Brick and Looper, as well as the sharp and inventive The Brothers Bloom, which is one of my favorite movies although it was a commercial flop. Hopefully he is allowed to bring his original, intelligent aesthetic to the Star Wars universe. Will he give us any hint as to what he has planned for the movie?

“With these films, I am trying to harken back to the original Star Wars… Christmas special. We do have Jefferson Starship.” Well, that’ll certainly be unexpected.

Watch the CONSTANTINE Trailer Shown at Comic-Con

Marvel may make the best comic book movies, but DC is smoking them on TV. DC Entertainment has four new shows premiering across three networks this fall (plus the return of Arrow), and having seen either the pilots or extended looks at all of them, I have to say, they all look pretty great. I’ve seen the least of Constantine, but I have little doubt that it is going to be a fun series. Matt Ryan plays the titular, um, hero… and he seems pretty much perfect for the part. It’s plenty freaky scary, and the supporting cast — which includes Harold Perrineau, Jeremy Davies, and Angélica Celaya — is great as well. Here’s the full-length trailer shown at Comic-Con so you can judge for yourself.

Constantine premieres on Friday, October 24 on NBC. Just in time for Halloween.

Superheroes Get Rockstar Makeovers

Everyone has a secret made up rockstar identity in their head, right? If you could play the actual guitar, not just air guitar, you know the name of your band, how you’d dress, the kind of music you’d play, which supermodels you’d date, etc. When I was seven, my fictional rockstar persona was lead singer of Emily and the Star Beamers. That has changed in the interceding years, but it’s still fun to think about when you are bored and stuck in line at the DMV.

It’s also fun to think about what superheroes might look like if they rocked out instead of (or maybe and also) kicked ass. Artist Andrés Moncayo thought about that in great detail and whipped up these amazing illustrations of what The Avengers and the Justice League might look like if they were bands. How perfect is rockstar Thor? Thor is basically the platonic ideal of long-haired metal. Since we know Hugh Jackman can sing, maybe the next Wolverine standalone film should see him form a band and rock this outfit. Also, Wonder Woman’s symbol as a massive chest tattoo? Yes. To all the things.

If you like these, you can pick up a prints here.

Thanks to GeekxGirls for the tip.

Zoe Saldana Gives Update on AVATAR Sequels

0
0

If you’re looking for any new story information on James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels, you might as well go digging in your backyard for unobtainium. Cameron’s follow ups to the highest grossing movie of all time are still shrouded in secrecy, but star Zoe Saldana was able to offer a small update on where the writer-director is on his scripts and the approximate time it will take them to shoot the three sequels back-to-back.

While promoting Guardians of the Galaxy, Saldana told the Daily Mirror:

"James Cameron is still working on the final drafts of the script and then everyone in the cast will get the call. We're going to be shooting mainly in Los Angeles and that will make things easier for me since I live there. Because we're doing the sequels back-to-back and it's going to take at least eight or nine months or more to finish the (three) films."

Considering that much of the filming will take place on motion-capture stages, eight or nine months for three films actually seems longer than I would have imagined. Especially considering the fact that it only took Peter Jackson under a year and a half for principal photography for the Lord of The Rings trilogy, which was filmed on location in New Zealand — pick up shoots were done for each film, but that’s still amazing. The Avatar sequels will also be shooting partially in New Zealand, and perhaps it's the underwater mo-cap sequences that have been talked about that will prove especially time consuming.

Along with Saldana, Sam Worthington, and Stephen Lang will be reprising their roles, with Sigourney Weaver also returning to the cast in a different role. Avatar 2 is slated for a December 2016 release, followed by Avatar 3 in December 2017, and Avatar 4 sometime in 2018.

Animated BATMAN and BEAR ROBIN Short

0

"Batman & Bear Robin" is a short by Bigmouth Audio. It's a what if scenario that plays out in hilarious fashion. At only 15 second this short is... short. The friendly-looking character design of Batman and the Bear Robin make this seem like it's for kids, but the violence says otherwise. Thanks to IO9 for finding this year-old gem.

Simon Pegg Addresses STAR WARS Rumors, Gives a Clue?

0
0

Actor Simon Pegg addressed rumors that he will be in Star Wars: Episode VII. Pegg is known to be a huge Star Wars fan, has worked on three films directed by J.J. Abrams, and has been seen on the Episode VII set by Benedict Cumberbatch

Vulture interviewed Pegg and reports:

Regarding Benedict Cumberbatch’s recent comments about you being on the set of Star Wars, are you in the next movie?
Yes, Benedict said something at Comic-Con and on MTV.

Yes ...
Well, J.J. uses me in different roles, and we’re good friends. I feel like my face in Star Wars would pop people out of the movie. Look, I love Star Wars, and I don’t want people to watch and go, Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face. The film is cleverly cast with these amazing, unknown actors.

So, you’re not in the movie?
[Smiles.] Of course, I visited the set. It’s amazing, and I love Star Wars. I want to see everything happening. It looks wonderful, and you need to believe those characters. Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.

As we know that Andy Serkis will be a CGI character,  perhaps Pegg will too. No need to worry about his face if he's an alien. Maybe this is overthinking a simple answer, or maybe it's a clue from a geek known to give clever answers.

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES - 4k Trailer and Ultra Hi-Res Stills

If the title change from There and Back Again to The Battle of the Five Armies wasn’t indication enough that director Peter Jackson plans to end The Hobbit trilogy with a bang, the teaser trailer that was screened during Warner Bros’ Comic-Con panel and that was released yesterday will surely win over those who have been less than impressed with the previous two films. If you have the display to support it, you can now watch the teaser in glorious 4k resolution. Warner Bros. has also released (via: Collider) uncompressed stills from the trailer that allow you to see every pore on Martin Freeman’s face, no magic ring necessary.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters December 17th.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The Governator: A Tale of Failed Collaboration Between Stan Lee and Arnold Schwarzenegger

0
0

The year was 2011. Arnold Schwarzenegger had just ended his eight year stint as Governor of California and was now free to pursue his love of acting once again. Upon exiting office, everyone wanted a piece of his action. People were already clamoring for Arnold Terminator and Predator movies, as both franchises had struggled in his absence. These projects were quickly brushed aside, because one man wanted to bring back Schwarzenegger in a way the world had never seen before. The hype was huge, media circuses gathered trying to get an interview with this incredible team up no one saw coming. Stan Lee was bound and determined to make Schwarzenegger a superhero.

The Governator was going to be a new superhero based on Schwarzenegger's real life. With the help of his real life family, a closet of super suits, and a kid by the name of Zeke Muckerberg (not to be confused with Gill Mates or Jteve Mobs), Arnold fights crime. Together they fight the Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons, or the GIRLIE men, to save the day. The whole thing sounds like a bad Robert Smigel cartoon, but I assure you it’s very real. So real, in fact, that a trailer was released to tease the cartoon show based on the comic.

So, basic plot line: Arnold leaves office, robots attack, and California is in shambles. Arnold uses a not-Green Lantern ring to get in his not-Terminator suit to ride his not-Tron light cycle to fight not-Decepticons. Oh yeah, and he has a bionic eye and that’s completely true to the life of Arnold Schwarzenegger, you’ve seen it in his movies. To be honest, many people thought this was a joke as Entertainment Weekly broke the news on April Fools Day. That should have been a sign for Stan Lee to quit while he was regarded the master of pranks, but the media circus continued.

Lee was serious about this project. How serious was he? They featured the announcement on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. He had a comic, cartoon, video game, and animated 3D movie already in development for the project. He paid not only The Black Eyed Peas for the use of their song “Pump It” but also Larry King to appear in a three second clip for the pilot episode of the new show. So with all the money Lee put into this project, what happened?

About a month later Lee backed out due to shocking claims that Schwarzenegger had cheated on his wife Maria Shriver. Apparently the steroid allegations and rampant past sexual misconduct were no big deal to Mr. Lee at the time of the announcement, but this was unforgivable. That being said, it probably would have been in bad taste to air as early episodes focused on Arnold being a “good husband” and going on vacations with his family on the heels of an announcement he had another family with a staff member and was supporting them financially.

Outside of the lovely magazine cover, and that three minute trailer, no public footage of The Governator exists on the web. It's likely for the best, as it would’ve been an uncomfortable smear on the life of an otherwise well respected comic guru and just flat out awful.

Mondo's Comic-Con GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Posters Will Break Your Heart

Guardians of the Galaxy by Tyler Stout

Guardians of the Galaxy by Tyler Stout

With Comic-Con happening last weekend and Guardians of the Galaxy opening this weekend, it was a perfect synergistic convergence for Mondo to whip up some Guardians of the Galaxy posters to sell at Comic-Con. Unfortunately, these are already sold out, but we can still look at them longingly and imagine how great it would be if we could be together. Not like that. Like on a wall. In a room that I am in… Anyway. There are posters for the whole team, each individual Guardian, and everyone’s favorite sentient tree-illegally altered anthropomorphic raccoon bromance, Grocket. Or Raccoot. We haven’t come up with their shipping name yet. My personal favorite is the Drax poster, but the artwork for Groot really captures his gentle character.

THE AVENGERS — 8-Bit Cinema

0

This 8-bit (and a little 16 bit) retelling of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is my favorite installment of CineFix’s 8-Bit Cinema series so far. They cover every squabble leading up to the Battle of New York and even recreate the spectacular single take tracking shot that showcases the superhero team’s ability to work together.

If you didn’t get a chance to see the footage screened from Avengers: Age of Ultron at Marvel's Comic-Con panel this past weekend — there were only around 7,000 of us in there, so chances are you didn’t — this video lets you relive some of the best parts of the first movie to whet your appetite for the sequel. You can also read our description of the footage here.

Meet Baymax in This Brief BIG HERO 6 TV Spot

0
0

We are all excited for Disney's Big Hero 6 , which looks really fun. The second TV spot for the movie is out, and it doesn't really tell us much. Instead of giving away the plot and action, it introduces us to the big, doughy, "robotic synthformer" Baymax. It isn't much of an introduction as the spot clocks in at a mere 17 seconds, but it is enough to pique your interest.

Big Hero 6 is based on the Marvel comics and follows "robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery."

The movie hits theaters on November 7, and I wish it would open earlier, if only because it would be hilarious to see a million little kids dressed as Baymax for Halloween.

Harley Quinn and Tank Girl Mashup Art

Loud, irreverent, dangerous, and sexy could be descriptors for both Harley Quinn and Tank Girl. Artist Valhalla Halvorson has created a mashup of both of these interesting characters. This art is also available on a T-shirt and in a variety of colors.

Just for contrast I've included the original Tank Girl art that inspired Halvorson's mashup. There are lots of great details that were translated over into Harley Quinn's style. Via: Geek Alerts.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: Roundup — Interview, Photos, and Featurette

Guardians of The Galaxy is coming out this weekend and we are currently experiencing what's called a "media blitz." At this point you've already made up your mind about watching it, so instead of doing three separate posts I thought, why not combine three into one? We have a couple behind the scenes photos via director James Gunn's Instagram account, a video featurette about Rocket and Groot, and an interview with Karen Gillan

Vulture talks to Gillan about playing Nebula and shaving her head:

What was it like to shave it all off for Guardians of the Galaxy?
I laughed hysterically when they got rid of it. Like, it was scary, but mainly funny. Then I fell asleep for two hours afterward, which was really weird. It felt very strange waking up without it. I couldn’t touch my head for awhile because I was freaked out by it.
You play the deadly assassin Nebula in the film. Was it worth going bald to play her?
Oh, yeah! I’d never played a bad guy before, and this character was particularly fun because she slopes in and out of things and she’s completely sadistic. She’s got a very interesting sisterly relationship with Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana. There’s a lot of bitter jealousy going on there. I also get to put men in headlocks, which is something I aspired to, frankly.
Superhero movies are usually a boys' club. Did you feel that way here?
No, I never thought of it that way. Zoe and I had so, so much to do. Nebula and Gamora are really strong females. They’re not just talking about the men the whole time, which is a very common thing, for women to just be there to advance the plot of the men. It wasn’t like that at all. That was something our director James Gunn was very aware of, just fleshing out these female characters. Zoe and I were like, Thank God! [Laughs] We also happen to have the film’s most epic fight sequence.

Watch Guardians of The Galaxy is weekend it a very fun and funny movie.

9 Minimalist Movie Posters Made from Colored Paper Cards

Colorplan Stone + Bright Red by GF Smith as Alien

Regardless of what the studios are putting out, the movie poster is a booming art form these days, and a lot of artists call their work minimalist. Some are, some are less so, but it’s an interesting design exercise, paring a movie down to its most basic elements and making a compelling and recognizable image of it. Taking things about 10,000 steps further is Spanish design firm Atipo. Their series of miniature ultra-minimalist movie posters is so stripped down you may not know what film the poster is “advertising” unless you’ve already seen it. The 15 pieces in Papers for Characters consist of a sheet (or two) of paper of varying weight/color/texture that has been manipulated or altered by hand. It was created to promote a “paper gallery” website for minke. Look through and see if you can guess the movie without checking the title. You can find the rest of the series here.

Bruce Campbell Confirms He Will Star in EVIL DEAD Series

0
0

This past weekend, during a surprise panel for the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us that Sam Raimi is producing, Raimi also announced that he is currently writing an Evil Dead TV series with his brother Ivan and franchise star Bruce Campbell. To what extent Campbell would be involved in the show was unclear, but yesterday the actor confirmed that he will indeed star in the new series.

Campbell tweeted the following response to a fan’s comment:

There’s still no word on how or if this series will tie in with Army of Darkness 2 and/or the sequel to the 2013 Evil Dead reboot, which featured a post-credits cameo from Campbell (to read the latest updates on those projects, click here) or what will come first, if those films are still in the pipeline at all. Raimi has enough clout in Hollywood to make pretty much any project he wants, which makes it all the more puzzling that it has taken so long to continue the saga that launched his and Campbell’s careers. With most of the daring and provocative storytelling now being done on TV anyway, perhaps Raimi and co. figure they can give hungry fans continuous years of Evil Dead as a series, rather than a movie every couple decades.

ASSASSIN'S CREED: UNITY — Exhilarating Master Assassin Trailer

Ubisoft has released a new Assassin’s Creed: Unity trailer. It's a pre-rendered video that is more of a short story than trailer. The atmosphere is very cinematic and I could watch a whole movie done in this quality and style.

Via Ubisoft:

Soon after the Revolution, Paris lives its darkest hours: The Terror. During that anarchic and violent era, thousands of heads have rolled. Nobles, priests, peasants; men or women: no one is safe from a horrific end at the hands of the dreaded Guillotine.
Watch Arno in a race against the clock to save a prisoner and would be victim from a grisly end. But is this mysterious would be guillotine victim friend… or foe?

I've played every Assassin’s Creed game and this newest one looks to be a huge leap above previous iterations. Assassin’s Creed: Unity comes to PlayStaion 4 and Xbox One October 28th.

Spider-Man and Wolverine Art by Chris Stevens

It’s no secret that some of the most amazing art is being done on computers. It’s incredibly difficult to tell what’s been hand painted and what has been crafted in the realm of zeros and ones. In the hands of a skilled artist it doesn’t really matter, but it is always nice to see someone bust out the oils and mix some colors. Artist Chris Stevens does just that for these Marvel themed pieces featuring Spider-Man, The Green Goblin, and Wolverine. The art is oils on masonite, and you can see more of the artist's paintings and sketches here.
