PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR - Poster and Clip

DreamWorks Animation has released a new clip and poster for their upcoming new film The Penguins of Madagascar. The clip features the penguins being brought to the secret government organization North Wind Headquarters. I saw about 20 minutes of footage at Comic-Con this week, and the stuff I saw was absolutely hilarious. I was pleasantly surprised by what they showed off, and I think many of you will enjoy it as well.

Discover the secrets of the most entertaining and mysterious birds in the global espionage game: Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private now must join forces with the chic spy organization, the North Wind, led by Agent Classified (we could tell you his name, but then Š you know), voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine, voiced by John Malkovich, from taking over the world.

The movie comes out on November 26th, 2014.

WWE Studios has released a promo image of the evil leprechaun creature from their upcoming film Leprechaun: Origins. I guess even leprechauns need an origin story. The studio revealed the image at Comic-Con this week, and it doesn't look like any kind of leprechaun I've ever seen before. Personally, I think it looks kind of ridiculous.

The story centers on "two young couples who while backpacking through Ireland, discover a town’s chilling secret inside an old cabin at the edge of the woods." Of course the monstrous-looking leprechaun is going to put them through hell.

The movie was directed by Zach Lipovsky, and it stars Dylan Postl, who is also known as WWE wrestler “Hornswoggle.” Brendan Fletcher, Teach Grant, Andrew Dunbar, Stephanie Bennett, and Melissa Roxburgh also star.

The movie will be released on VOD and Digital HD platforms on August 26th, and Blu-ray and DVD on September 30th.

Warner Bros. has released the insanely badass trailer for George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road! Now you get to see what we all saw at Comic-Con for yourself, and it's freakin' incredible! I love the adrenaline-fueled action. The movie is basically a non-stop chase sequence that is full of jaw-dropping action! You guys are in for a real treat, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film of George Miller’s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise and is co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There’s Max (Tom Hardy), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos and Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

The movie will ride into theaters on May 15th, 2015!

Mondo released a new character poster for James Gunn's Guardians of the Glaxay featuring Drax. I came across the poster on CBM, but the artist of the piece wasn't listed, so I'm not sure who created it. It's still very cool looking though! I do have to say that everything I've seen of this character has been surprisingly awesome and funny.

The CW has debuted a great new promo for their upcoming Flash series that you can watch below. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled because it features a few fun Easter eggs that I think fans will enjoy.

The series comes from co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, who wrote the pilot episode with Geoff Johns, which was helmed by Arrow pilot director David Nutter. I watched the first episode of Flash last night at Comic-Con, and it looks like the CW has another great superhero hit on their hands. I thought the characters were great, and I can tell that it's going to be a really entertaining show to watch.

Grant Gustin stars as the hero, along with Candice Patton as Iris West, Jesse L. Martin as Iris’s father Detective West, Michelle Harrison as Barry’s mother Nora Allen, and many others, including John Wesley Shipp from the original The Flash TV series as Barry’s father.

The series will premiere on October 7th!

As promised, Lionsgate has released an official teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. This one is called "Our Leader the Mockingjay," and it actually shows some footage from the film. The studio has always done a great job marketing these movies, and it seems like this next chapter in the story is going to be good.

The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

The final two films were directed by Francis Lawrence from screenplays by Danny Strong and Peter Craig. The movie is based on the final novel in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

Lionsgate will release Part 1 on November 21st, 2014 and Part 2 will open on November 20th, 2015.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Props - Ultron Mark 1 and Cracked Cap Shield

Marvel has released photos of a couple of props from Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. These were on display at the Marvel booth at Comic-Con this weekend. The photo above features the Ultron Mark 1 that Ultron builds for himself. Just for clarification, Tony Stark is responsible for the creation of the Ultron A.I. only, not his first physical form. Ultron is the one that gives himself this crude physical form at first, and it looks creepy as hell!

The second image features Captain America's shield cracked to hell, which is a visual that we saw at the end of the awesome footage that was screened for the film at Comic-Con this weekend. To read our description of that footage click here, and to watch the Age of Ultron panel click here

Kevin Feige Discusses DOCTOR STRANGE in Marvel's Cinematic Universe

Another Marvel panel at Comic-Con has come and gone, and there was no mention of Doctor Strange. I was hoping that there would be a casting announcement, but it didn't happen. As of right now the list of potential actors who could join the film include Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, and most recently, Joaquin Pheonix

Thanks to /Film we have a little update on the film from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who talked about the character and what he will bring to their cinematic universe.

"Doctor Strange is a classic Marvel origin story, because he’s got one of the best origins ever. And it is our opportunity to take a left turn into the supernatural.

"Now, what is the definition of “supernatural”? It varies. We like the idea of playing with alternate dimensions. [Doctor] Strange, in a very [Steve] Ditko, crazy astro-trip way, traveling through dimensions and traveling through other realms is something we think is very cool. And playing with perceptions of reality.

"I just watched the Neil deGrasse Tyson Cosmos series, which is amazing, and which may as well be an acid trip. It may as well be Doc Strange! It is a mind-bending [series], all based in physics and based in quantum mechanics, and we’re going to play a lot with the notion of that as an explanation for how the sorcerers do what they do."

I love this character, and I'm very excited to see what other sorcerer characters he introduces into their universe because Strange isn't going to be the only one. They are opening up the world to a whole breed of superheroes, super villains and superpowers.

A poster has been released for Samuel L Jackson's ive-action film adaptation of Yasuomi Umetsu's 1998 anime, Kite. This looks like a great movie and a fun adaptation. If you haven't seen the trailer for it yet, click here to check it out!

The live action version was directed by Ralph Ziman, and it follows a young orphaned schoolgirl named Sawa "living in a failed state, post-financial collapse, where the corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When her father, a cop, is slain by someone dirty inside the force, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of her father’s ex-partner."

The movie also stars India Eisley, Callan McAuliffe, Cleo Rinkwest, Russel Savadier, Keci Eatock, Matthew Van Leeve, and Jaco Muller. The movie will be released on October 10th, 2014, and it looks like a really fun adaptation. Thanks to IGN for the poster.

FOX offered fans a sneak peek of their upcoming Simpsons and Family Guy crossover episode at Comic-Con over the weekend, and that 5-minutes of footage has been released online for you to watch now.

The episode is called “The Simpsons Guy,” and the story follows the Griffins, who accidentally end up in Springfield where Peter Griffin "makes the acute observation that everyone around here looks like they have hepatitis.”

The episode looks absolutely hilarious, and it's set to air on September 28th!

iZOMBIE Is a Witty, Original Take on the Zombie Psychic Detective Genre

$

It is usually a bad sign when a network cancels a pilot screening near the last minute. If you read the Comic-Con schedule, you would have thought that the first episode of iZombie screened twice. It didn’t, but the extended first look and the producers’ explanation soothed my qualms. Apparently they're recasting a few roles and doing some reshoots, and they aren’t showing the pilot anywhere until that is done, but what we did see of the show was pretty fantastic. Not being recast were series stars Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, and David Anders, along with executive producers Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright, who were all on hand to talk about the show and take audience questions. Who is getting fired? They didn’t say, but on Veronica Mars, Thomas recast the dog after the pilot, so maybe history is repeating itself.

Here’s the concept: Based on a comic book by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, iZombie follows Liv, a promising medical resident who goes to a boat party and turns into a zombie. And though she manages to hide it, it disrupts her life and leaves her a little bit adrift. Okay, a lot adrift. She breaks up with her fiancé, quits her prestigious residency and transfers to the morgue (which I think makes her a pathologist), and lets a raging case of mid-twenties ennui set in. Then one day in the morgue she eats the brain of a murder victim and discovers that she absorbs the memories, skills, and personality traits of the people whose brains she eats. So she is forced to pretend to be psychic and help the cops solve the crime. Obviously.

The CW actually approached Thomas and Ruggiero with the comics and asked them to create the network’s next big female star, and they’ve found a live one with McIver. The New Zealander is warm and engaging and funny, and very very very pretty. I mean, it’s the CW, so everyone is pretty, but McIver stands out, even on that network. The rest of the characters (with apparently a couple of exceptions) are really well cast — funny and sharp and good-looking. Kohli, who plays Liv’s boss and confidant, is particularly great. If there is any justice (and there isn’t), he should be a breakout star.

The obvious comparison to Veronica Mars is somewhat apt. The creative team is the same, which means the aesthetic is similar. There is a voiceover, and McIver even sounds a bit like Kristen Bell. It’s hard not to think of the show as “Veronica Mars is a zombie in her mid-20s,” especially given the crime solving aspect. However, the setting of the show is very different, and the focus is less on the hell of the high school class divide and more about the struggle of finding yourself in your twenties. It’s so hard, you guys. Also, while Liv has had a trauma, she hasn’t been through the dumping, best friend’s murder, paternal persecution, social abandonment, maternal abandonment, and rape that Veronica went through, so she isn’t so misanthropic. Thomas thinks the show is more Buffy the Vampire Slayer than Veronica Mars. But fans of Thomas’ previous shows will be glad to note that the pilot does prominently feature one Mars alum, and the villain’s name is Blaine DeBeers, as in Roman DeBeers, Martin Starr’s character on Party Down. They might be related.

Fans of the zombie genre are probably wondering what kind of zombie Liv is if she can keep her friends and family in the dark about her status, and the answer is, a different one. She’s not a fast zombie a la 28 Days Later, or a slow zombie a la The Walking Dead, or even a super old school voodoo zombie. She’s not going to decay. She’s mostly just pale, a bit listless and desensitized, and in need of regular brains or she gets dumber and meaner. If she goes too long, she’ll go a bit Hulk-smash to get them (although, since iZombie is a DC property, you’ll never hear that reference on the show). Also, although there will be fights with other zombies, this show is never going to be as gory as something like The Walking Dead. But it is a playful, original take on a few old tropes.

iZombie went from barely on my radar to the top of my most-anticipated new shows. I’m a bit worried that The CW lists it as “Coming Soon” without a specific premiere date, but hopefully they’re just waiting on the reshoots to formalize its planned release. When it does air, you should check it out.

ANT-MAN Panel Video and Footage Description - SDCC 2014

Marvel came, and Marvel conquered. Hall H was in a frenzy in the moments leading up to the Marvel Comic-Con panel. Fans who had camped out for as much as two days were chanting the studio’s name, doing the wave, and speculating what big announcements would be made. Sadly, there were no new movie titles announced, just a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which is set for July 28th, 2017. Marvel’s focus was on their 2015 releases, which are Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man. The Avengers panel didn’t disappoint, and you can watch it in its entirety here and read a description of the footage that was shown here. While the Ant-Man panel didn’t have as much to show since they don’t start filming until August 18th, they had plenty to discuss and even put some footage together to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

The Ant-Man panel consisted of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige; director Peyton Reed, who replaced Edgar Wright; Paul Rudd, who will be playing Scott Lang; Michael Douglas, who will play Hank Pym; Evangeline Lilly, whose appearance on the panel finally confirmed her long rumored role as Pym’s daughter “Hope Pym” (Hope Van Dyne in the comics); and Corey Stoll, who takes on the role of Darren Cross, the villain of the film who will become Yellowjacket. You can watch the full panel below, in which they talk about their roles and what you can expect from the film. We obviously aren't allowed to film the footage that they screened, but below the panel I've written a description of the clip.

As stated above, Ant-Man doesn’t begin filming for another two and a half weeks, but they did put together “a little something” using visual effects tests and voiceovers provided by Douglas and Rudd. The footage starts with a tracking shot through a lab as we hear Hank Pym counseling Scott Lang, who is unsure of whether or not he can be a “superhero.” Pym scoffs at the mention of superheroes saying, “Superheroes, what a goddamn joke!” As the camera winds through the lab it reveals the Ant-Man helmet sitting on a desk. The voiceovers continue, and though Lang is still reluctant, Pym assures him that it’s only a “small job.” We then cut to an exterior night shot with a miniaturized Lang running on a rooftop in the Ant-Man suit. Lang is communicating with Pym, and saying that he has “it” — it possibly being the suit itself, or something else that he has stolen. Lang is being pursued by something and tries to escape by hopping aboard a flying ant. His helmet appears to be malfunctioning, though, with sparks flying off the side, and he is unable to properly mount the flying ant.

Pym tells Lang that he has to put his trust in the helmet and tells him to jump. Lang jumps off the side of the building and the flying ant swoops in and catches him. The footage ends with Lang successfully making his escape on the back of the flying ant.

The rooftop sequence appeared to be entirely CG. The effects were all there, but it lacked polish, and the dialogue seemed slightly disconnected from the onscreen action. Edgar Wright’s test footage that was screened in previous years was never officially released in its entirety. So barring some blu-ray extras, I’m not sure if fans will ever get to see this footage again.

Ant-Man is slated for release on July 17th, 2015.

Penguins of Madagascar had a really good panel at Comic-Con. I had zero interest in the movie until I saw several long clips that had me and all of Hall H laughing. The inclusion of Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich just makes the movie a must see. The hilarious sneak peek footage is exclusive to Comic-Con, but Cumberbatch and Malkovich have a funny dynamic on the panel.

Red Band Trailer for SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR

$

0

There is a new red-band trailer for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and I am not totally sure why it’s a red-band trailer. I guess it’s because Eva Green is naked a few times, but she’s in silhouette, so it’s not like you can actually see any of her bits. And yes, there are several scenes of Jessica Alba stripping, but she is still the most modest stripper in human history, so… I don’t know. If you work at a place that lets you watch atmospheric gangster types hold guns and angst all over the screen while the women around them wear little to nothing, then it might be safe for work?

The sequel opens on August 22, and the massive cast also includes Mickey Rourke, Josh Brolin, Powers Boothe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Dennis Haysbert, Martin Csokas, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Chung, Jamie King, Alexa Vega, Julia Garner, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Christopher Lloyd, Stacy Keach, and Jude Ciccolella. It was directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez. By now you should pretty much know whether you’re going to see it or not.

10 Creepy Dolls in Horror Movies

$
0
0

Dolls can be scary as hell. My family has had a creepy-ass doll lying arounds for years, and we use that thing to scare the living shit out of each other. We will hide it in places where the victim would least suspect it. We've gotten some good scares and hilarious laughs with that thing. It's terrifying! I passed by that doll in the garage today and it inspired me to write up a top 10 list of creepiest dolls in movies.

Jigsaw

(Saw)

This jacked-up tricycle-riding doll is a very bad premonition. This is something you'd never want to come across for real because it means pain is coming. It offers the person watching it nothing but bad news. Even though the doll is never actually referred to as Billy in the movies, it was reportedly known behind the scenes as the Billy Doll.

Fats the ventriloquist dummy

(Magic)

This movie made me give up my dream of wanting to become a ventriloquist. Anthony Hopkins starred in Magic as the ventriloquist who is at the mercy of his own freaky doll. At the same time he's trying to spark up a little romance with a high school fling. This was definitely an interesting psychological thriller.

Suzie

(May)

"If you can't find a friend, make one." Yeah, that might not be the best thing to do. This movie is packed full of all kinds of insanity that includes homicidal impulses and cannibalism. The eeriest part about this movie, though, is May's relationship with her doll Suzie. This movie was full of awkward, uncomfortable moments.

The Clown Doll

(Poltergeist)

I freakin' hate this thing. After seeing Poltergeist for the first time when I was a kid, I knew I would never like clowns again. It didn't have a lot of screen time in the movie, but it sure made a hell of an impression when it tried to kill that little kid!

All the dolls

(Dolls)

This movie is just completely full of dolls that you would never ever want to find lurking around in your home. The dolls in this movie are possessed by immortal souls cursed by witches and forced to pay for their crimes by being imprisoned in these toys. So, of course, they go around killing people in the most brutal ways.

Blade

(Puppet Master)

Just the look of this things face is enough to give a person nightmares. That vicious smirk on his face gives him a homicidal look of death. Apparently the look is modeled after David Schmoeller’s muse, actor Klaus Kinski, and the resemblance is ridiculous.

Billy

(Dead Silence)

“Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. And if you see her, do not scream, or she’ll rip your tongue out at the seam.”

Director James Wan has a talent for bringing nightmarish dolls to life in his films. Before he took on Annabelle, he made a movie that was packed full of horrifying ventriloquist dolls. Billy was the creepiest out of all of them. Those eyes just looked like they wanted to destroy you.

Dolly Dearest

(Dolly Dearest)

This is a horrible, horrible, horrible doll! This nasty little jerk was responsible for a series of terrible accidents that caused the family an undeserved amount of grief. It's never a good thing when toys come to life when they are taken over by a malicious spirt hellbent on chaos.

Annabelle

(The Conjuring)

This doll has to be on the list because, well, it's freaking terrifying! This thing is based on a real haunted doll that actually exists. It was one of the scariest aspects of the movie even though it wasn't a main part of the story. That doll was just always brooding in the back of my mind throughout the film. It definitely made an impact on the audience.

Zuni Doll

(Trilogy of Terror)

This thing is an absolute maniac! The first time I saw this thing I couldn't help but laugh, but it's still a pretty creepy design. The doll is a misshapen aboriginal warrior equipped with razor sharp teeth and a spear. It came along with a scroll claiming that the doll contains the actual spirit of a Zuni hunter named "He Who Kills." The doll comes to life and attacks its owner.
