Shortly after Kevin Smith's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, A24 released the first trailer for his horror film Tusk. This is very different from anything I've seen from Smith before, and I'm not sure what to think about it, but it definitely has my attention. It looks like a terrible nightmare!

The movie stars Justin Long as a journalist on a mission. He finds the story of a lifetime in a man named Mr. Howe (Michael Parks), who's a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses. Here's an official synopsis:

When his best friend and podcast co-host goes missing in the backwoods of Canada, a young guy joins forces with his friend's girlfriend to search for him.

Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez also star in the flick. Tusk comes to theaters on September 19th.

Daniel Radcliffe's HORNS Has a New Full Trailer

Another trailer has been released for Daniel Radcliffe's jacked-up looking supernatural thriller Horns. The film is an adaptation of Joe Hill's novel of the same name, and judging by the trailers I've seen, it looks like a great flick. I think the concept is great, and the new trailer gives us a little more insight into what this movie is about.

Radcliffe plays a character named Ig Perrish, who is the "lead suspect in the violent rape and killing of his girlfriend. Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his head. Their power drives people to confess sins and give in to selfish impulses -- an effective tool in his quest to discover the circumstances of his girlfriend's death and for exacting revenge. The dark fantasy explores why bad things happen to good people and what the loss of true love can do to a man."

The movie was directed by Alexandre Aja (Piranha), and it will be released in theaters on October 31st.

STAR WARS REBELS - Extended Comic-Con Trailer and Clips

Screen Shot 2014-07-26 at 2.11.34 AM.png

Disney released a new extended trailer and a couple of clips for their upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels. I am not the first to jump on board any kind of animated series, but this one is starting to grow on me.

If you are not aware, Rebels tells the story of the events that takes place between Episode III and Episode IV. There is a new cast of characters as well as some classics. In this new preview you will see cameos of R2-D2 and C3PO. Lando Calrissian will also make an appearance every once in a while throughout the first season.

This new trailer also gives a glimpse at the villain, The Inquisitor. It has been said that he is not a Sith, so that leaves what he really is open to interpretation for the time being.

If you want to find out what is really going on, then I suggest you tune into Disney XD this fall.

First Look at Mark Hamill in KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE

We got to see some extremely fun new footage from Matthew Vaughn's upcoming spy thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service. The footage included a ridiculously action-packed scene that involved a secret agent trying to interrogate a character in the film played by Mark Hamill (Star Wars). It was really cool to see Hamill up on the big screen again. It got me even more excited to see him in Star Wars: Episode VII

Unfortunately, the clip hasn't been released online yet, but we do have a photo of Hamill with the films' star Colin Firth, who's obviously not very happy with him. I've included a few other photos for you to check out as well.

The movie also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, and Taron Egerton. The story is based on the comic book by Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). It tells the story of "a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency's ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius."

To check out the first trailer for the film and some additional photos click here. The movie is set to be released on October 24th!

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Comic-Con Footage Description

batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice-comic-con-footage-description

I was really hoping that Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder would surprise fans in Comic-Con's Hall H with footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Guess what?! They did, and it was freakin' badass! All at once the 6,000 fans in Hall H had an intense geek frenzy of awesomeness. I have no idea when they will release this footage, but here's a description of what we saw.

The short clip starts off with Batman on a rooftop in the full armor style suit from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. He has glowing eyes, and it's pouring rain. He's standing next to the bat signal which he turns on, shining the light into the night sky. The bat logo is reminiscent of the one from Miller’s classic comic. The camera slowly pans up to the sky to reveal the the light is shining on Superman, who is looking down at Batman, pissed off, with red glowing eyes. Then it ends.

It's hard to convey the greatness of this trailer, but I can tell you that everyone in Hall H cheered at the top of their lungs when it was over. It gave me some major goosebumps! I hope that some day soon you will get to see this scene for yourself, because it will blow you away. Even if you're not excited for the movie right now, when you see this you will be.

The Thing from the FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Revealed?

Apparently the above photo is from the set of Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot. The photos leaked out from Justified Films, but the tweet with the photo has since been taken down. This is definitely a pretty cool design, but not a final one. I came across the photo at CBM, who says that this is most likely a set sculpt that visual effects crews use for lighting references when they go back and insert the finally character in the movie digitally.

I thought for sure Fox would show something off from this movie during their panel at Comic-Con, but unfortunately they didn't. We have this to tide us over until something official is released, though. There's no confirmation that this is actually from the movie but it came with the following hashtags:

Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder have released the first official image of actress Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it's hard to deny that she looks badass. That costume she's wearing is pretty spectacular. I wasn't very optimistic when she was cast in the movie, but maybe there's a chance that she'll be awesome. I can't wait to see her in action.

The Pros and Cons of SCORPION

the-pros-and-cons-of-scorpion

CBS premiered the pilot episode of their newest procedural, Scorpion, at Comic-Con on Thursday, and it might be worth checking out. I haven’t quite decided yet. Let’s go through the pros and cons together.

The show follows the usual structure of a CBS procedural — a group of specialized people are working against the clock to solve a problem that they are uniquely qualified to solve. Many of them have tragic backstories. Okay, so on CSI there is no clock, but Without a Trace, Person of Interest, and that serial killer one all have/had some element of working quickly to save someone. CON

Scorpion’s twist on the concept — that this team is made up of  super geniuses who basically don’t have any social skills — has been done a few times before. CON

However, the show’s other conceit — that this is based on the true life of Walter O’Brien, the man with the fourth highest IQ ever measured — is maybe interesting. PRO

This is the show’s central concept: Walter O’Brien is a super genius who was taken/used by the US Government as a child and is now trying to run a (failing) shop of super genius helper dudes when a crisis leads his G-Man former handler to seek his help. Also, there is a single mother waitress who joins the team. NEUTRAL

The real life O’Brien seems to think this show will function as some sort of outreach to the “mentally enabled,” which is weird. PRO

He also says things like, “If I had emotions, I would have anxiety,” and when someone asked if Walter will have a super-genius nemesis on the show, he said, “Real life answer: Not anymore.” PRO

Elyes Gabel plays Walter O’Brien on the show and is perfectly adequate, even somewhat charming in a difficult role. How do you forge an emotional connection with the audience when you're playing someone with no emotions? PRO

Walter’s G-man handler is played by Robert Patrick. PRO

They have a shared tragic backstory. CON

In the pilot Patrick crashes a car like he’s a lineman blocking for a quarterback. PRO

Katharine McPhee is the female lead. CON

As Paige the waitress/genius wrangler, McPhee is supposed to help the geniuses understand normal emotional humans. But as we’ve seen from her work on Smash, the only emotions she is capable of are “whiny,” “entitled,” and “mopey.” CON

McPhee is supposed to be all no-nonsense/common sense solution girl, but she has no idea that her son is a genius and thinks he is “challenged” but has apparently never had him tested/receive any services, even though he is presumably in a public school where teachers definitely would have pushed for an evaluation, which likely would have included an IQ test. CON

Gabel does a Sherlock-style cold read of McPhee, and she tells him he’s wrong and basically calls him a dick. PRO

At one point when Gabel and Patrick are discussing a plan that would allow two passenger jets to crash but save many many many more people, and McPhee says, “Normal people save everyone!” Which, no, they don’t. Normal people don’t save shit, McPhee. CON

Aside from McPhee’s dialogue, which is often terrible, the writing is clever and fun. PRO

Eddie Kaye Thomas is a super-genius psychologist (Psychiatrist?) who can read people so well he’s practically a psychic, and yet he chooses to wear a porkpie hat. CON

He is, however, one of the more interesting supporting cast members. NEUTRAL

The girl super genius, a mechanical engineer played by Jadyn Wong, is abrasive without being charming or endearing in any way. PRO

Ari Stidham plays the requisite OCD mathematician and seems kind of sweet, although he also seems a bit like the poor man’s Rich Sommers. NEUTRAL

Remember how Numbers would have animated graphics breaking down the complex mathematical concepts for a much-dumber-than-the-characters audience? That was cool, but this show doesn’t do that. NEUTRAL

The pilot was directed by Justin Lin, and it seems like the show will have a cool action element in addition to the thinky genius pacing back and forth. PRO

Lin sort of maybe told McPhee that she was kind of bad at acting. PRO

The producing team includes the recently split but uber-successful Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. PRO

The climax of the pilot was a totally implausible but convincing enough stunt involving a jumbo jet and a Ferrari. PRO

In the title cards the name of the show is rendered as </scorpion> which makes me think that this show will end with a a traumatic brain injury that leaves Walter with merely an above average intellect. PRO

The verdict: If you ignore the cliched premise and Katherine McPhee, it’s almost all pros. We'll give it a three episode tryout before we set a season record.

Scorpion premieres Monday, September 22 on CBS.

During the Marvel Television panel at Comic-Con yesterday a teaser trailer was shown for their second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It features Patton Oswalt, who will be coming back as Agent Koenig. The teaser hints at a new team member — Barbara Morse, aka Mockingbird.

A member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers in the comics, Mockingbird was first created by Gerry Conway and Barry Smith and introduced in Astonishing Tales #6 in 1971. Though she doesn't have any super powers, she was injected with an experimental serum that gave her enhanced strength and speed. The character also became romantically involved with Hawkeye in the source material.

The cast of the show includes Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 will premiere on September 23rd.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD - 4 New Character Posters and Footage Description

Warner Bros. showed off the first footage from George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road today, and it was exciting as hell. I loved what I saw in the footage shown, and it really brought back that same feeling I had when I saw the original film for the first time. I was really blown away by the footage, and it definitely gives Michael Bay a run for his money in terms of action, because this thing looks batshit insane! The studio has since released four new character posters for the extremely cool looking film featuring Tom Hardy as Max, Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult as Nux, and Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe.

The footage starts with Max standing next to his car as a two-headed lizard runs toward him that he steps on. Max says in a voiceover, "My name is Max. My world is fire and blood." That's followed by a montage of several different crazy awesome-looking cars and motorcycles in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Max gets kidnapped and is being driven through the desert with a crazy metal mask on his face. He is then rescued at one point by Furiosa, and it all leads to an amazingly jaw-dropping chase sequence through a series of powerful sand tornadoes that cause absolute chaos. At the end the following tagline pops up... "The world belongs to the Mad."

The movie will be released on May 15th, 2015!

King Kong Prequel Film SKULL ISLAND and GODZILLA 2 Announced

Legendary Pictures was at San Diego Comic-Con today presenting several of their upcoming film projects. During the presentation, Legendary CEO Thomas Tull confirmed earlier reports that Gareth Edwards would be coming back to direct Godzilla 2. The lineup of monsters we will see in future installments of the franchise were also revealed in a fun video presentation from Project Monarch. Those additional monsters include Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. The crowd got pretty damn excited about these monsters coming in to join Godzilla. Edwards will start working on the project as soon as he's finished directing his Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm.

At the end of the panel, Legendary had a big surprise for attendees. The studio ended the panel with a teaser for a film called Skull Island, which will tell an origin story of another great beast... King Kong. The teaser takes us through the island and ends with King Kong standing up through the tree's beating on his chest and letting out a roar. The reveal was kind of anti-climatic, but it was still cool to see that they are making another King Kong flick.

I think it's safe to say that somewhere down the line King Kong and Godzilla will meet on the big screen again. Skull Island will be released on November 4th, 2016.

WARCRAFT Motion Logo and Trailer Description - SDCC 2014

Director Duncan Jones presented som incredible footage at Comic-Con today for Legendary Pictures' upcoming movie Warcraft. The film is currently deep in post-production, and there's still a ton of work that needs to be done to finish the film, but that didn't stop them from showing off a short teaser to get the fans at Comic-Con pumped up to see the movie.

The footage that was shown included narration from two leaders from different clans, the human side and the orc side. What's interesting about this is that neither one seems like a villain. It shows that the movie will be an origin story of sorts that will examine the events and characters that lead to the conflict between the two races, and we'll see it from both of their perspectives — similar to how they portrayed the warring sides in Dawn of Planet of the Apes.

The human leader is played by Travis Fimmel, and in the teaser, through narration, he explains that he has spent more time protecting his king rather than his son. He asks himself if that makes him honorable or a fool. The footage then cuts to the orc leader, who wonders about the things that he has sacrificed in his life in order to protect his people. He talks about his home being destroyed and asks himself the question, “Is war the only way?”

The footage showed off a lot of the various settings of the story, which are extremely detailed and very colorful. The costumes, the weapons, and the overall look of the film is very cool. Of course, it also teased some brief action sequences of humans fighting orcs, including Ben Foster’s mage character awesomely powering up. There's also a great shot at the end showing Fimmel’s character flying in on a giant eagle into battle..

There's still a lot of visual effects work to be done, and the stuff we saw wasn't 100% polished, but I see the potential and it is spectacular. Fans are going to love this!

The movie hits theaters on March 11th, 2016. I've included the motion title sequence for the movie that was released below.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Comic-Con Footage Description

avengers-age-of-ultron-comic-con-footage-description

After waiting over twelve hours in line to make it to the Marvel panel at Comic-Con and waiting all day in Hall H, we were blessed with many things. It all culminating with the trailer of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The majority of the heroes were present for the panel and even though their banter was witty and entertaining, nothing compared to the trailer that we were shown.

The footage starts with the Avengers hanging out in the Stark penthouse drinking and trying to lift Thor's hammer. Tony asks, Whoever picks it up is the king of Asgard? Thor says, Yes. Tony tries to lift it, and when he can't tells the gang that he'll be right back. When he does come back he's armed with an Iron Man glove that has miniature rockets on it. Of course, it doesn't work. He even tries do it with Rhodey and his War Machine glove, and it doesn't budge. Hawkeye and Bruce Banner try with no luck. When Steve Rogers tries he moves it just a little, causing a look of concern on Thor's face, but no one else seems to notice. After everyone cracks a few jokes, you hear the voice of Ultron saying… "“The path to peace … is with your extinction.” He then breaks through the door looking beat to crap out of the Avengers and calls them killers. When he is done speaking four Ultron clones come busting through the wall and attack!

We hear a voiceover of Ultron and see destruction throughout the world. What's interesting is that it seems like our heroes become divided, and start to face off against each other.

It cuts to a close up of Tony Stark saying, "I always knew that it would end this way." We then see Stark facing off with Hulk in the hulkbuster suit, and it's freakin' amazing! There are some more scenes of carnage, and then they show Hulk and Ironman clash.

In the end after a shot of the title we see Tony Stark looking at hundreds of Ultrons broken on the ground as well as Captain's shield ripped in half and all of the Avengers lying lifeless on the ground.

That's where it ended, and the crowd went wild!

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Writer to Script JUSTICE LEAGUE

Apparently, Warner Bros. liked what the screenwriter of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did so much that they want to hire him to write Justice League as well. The writer's name is Chris Terrio, and he also wrote Ben Affleck's Argo, which had a fantastic script. The guy is obviously talented, and it gives me hope that Batman v Superman will be much better than Man of Steel. After the footage that I saw yesterday my excitement level for this film has shot up tremendously.

If makes complete sense that they would want to hire him, especially since he's already engulfed himself in that DC cinematic universe. He knows the characters, settings, and story, and he basically helped in the process of developing this universe.

FOX has released a movie-style trailer for their upcoming Batman-inspired series Gotham, and it's packed full of lots of fun Easter eggs that fans will enjoy. I got to watch the pilot episode last night, and I absolutely loved it! The first episode was incredibly well made, and this series is going to be spectacular. The penguin definitely steals the show in the pilot. It's going to give fans of this world a really fun ride.

Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.

The series is set to premiere September 22nd on FOX.

Ra's al Ghul Introduced in New Trailer for ARROW

Yesterday the DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV announced that the main villain of Arrow season 3 will be Ra's al Ghul! They've been talking about him for awhile now, and he'll finally make his appearance. They even released a new trailer teasing the villain.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim talked about the character in an interview with THR.

"It really happened very organically in the sense that we had this notion that in episode 16 we were going to reveal that Malcolm Merlyn was trained by the League of Assassins and that's because that's because of the comic book. We were like, you know what we're going to do? We're going to get away with a little reference about a guy in Nanda Parbat who changed his life. That was just the beginning."

They started teasing the character in the season two episode Broken Dolls, and Guggenheim explained,

"We just slowly started creeping towards it and creeping towards it. Then discussions started happening with DC and then Superman-Batman started happening getting into clearer focus," he said. "The character seemed to be available as far as not being used in the movies. It was a very, very organic progression. That was what was fun for us, just how natural it happened."

He went on to discuss what they are planning on doing with the character.

"We have a really clever way of doing Ra's this year that is true to the comic-book origins but different from the way Ra's was portrayed in the Nolan movies. You don't want to compete withBatman Begins, even though we've always said Batman Begins was a big influence on us. We really wanted our Ra's to be very different — at least our own Arrow-ified version."

Arrow has been an awesome show to watch, and the inclusion of Ra's al Ghul is very exciting. I'm sure they'll handle the character with care, and do their best to make fans happy.

Guillermo del Toro Says JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Will Be Separate from Other DC Projects

guillermo-del-toro-says-justice-league-dark-will-be-separate-from-other-dc-projects1

During a interview with Guillermo del Toro at Comic-Con SHH asked the director about the Justice League Dark project that he's been developing. He was asked if this would connect with any of the other DC properties currently in development, like Constantine or Sandman. This was what he said,

“I’m still working on it. Sandman doesn’t figure in the Dark Universe. We have Deadman, we have the Demon, we have Swamp Thing, we have Zatana, we have Constantine, but DC and Warners have been very clear that they are trying to keep those properties separate so when the time comes they can unite them, once they know they’re quantifiable. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern… everyone eventually will come together. Right now, they’re allowing us independence.”

When it comes to the Constantine TV series that's coming out and how that figures into the equation he said,

“No, I had that conversation when the Constantine show was pitched. I said, ‘Do I have to have continuity with that?’ and they said, ‘No, feel free to continue the way you’re going.”

He added, “Swamp Thing for me is my favorite superhero of all times. I always like the monsters." That comment led him into talking about the Hulk, "I love the Hulk,“ which was followed by an update on the Hulk TV series that he was working on with Marvel. Unfortunately, he says that the show has been cancelled, and he thinks the reasoning behind is because they were having so much success with Mark Ruffalo’s version of the character in the movies.

That tells me that maybe they are actually planning that solo Hulk film that fans have been hoping for.
