Gripping Trailer for Ryan Reynolds' THE CAPTIVE

gripping-trailer-for-ryan-reynolds-captive

Ryan Reynolds has a new psychological thriller coming out called The Captive, and it looks like it's going to be a very intense movie. It was directed by Atom Egoyan (Chloe, The Devil's Knot), and it also stars Scott Speedman, Mireille Enos, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, Alexia Fast, and Bruce Greenwood

The story follows Matthew (Reynolds) and Tina (Enos), "a couple torn apart by the circumstances behind the mysterious disappearance of their daughter, who seems to be alive in captivity eight years later with her unknown location being broadcast online, leaving officials perplexed as they attempt to find her."

There's no official release date set yet.

Great Animated Short - THE TERRIBLE THING OF ALPHA-9!

Screen Shot 2014-07-10 at 4.40.10 PM.png

I came across this very entertaining animated short for you to watch called The Terrible Thing of Alpha-9! It was created by Jake Armstrong for his graduation film project. The story follows a space bounty-hunter who travels to a distant planet to kill a terrible monster. Things don't go as smoothly as the bounty hunter would have hoped. The short was made back in 2009, but has just recently found its way online. It is done in a fun and loose style of animation, and I enjoyed the cartoony yet dark character designs. I absolutely loved the ending of this!

Darren Lynn Bousman to Direct Sci-Fi Action Film APEX

Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman is set to direct an indie sci-fi action movie called Apex. Bousman has made some interesting films in his career outside of the Saw movies, and they consist of Repo: The Genetic Opera, 11-11-11, and The Devil's Carnival. He has a unique style, and this should be an interesting project for him.

The news comes from THR who describe the project as "Predator meets Call of Duty." And the plot tells the story of "a Special Ops team, sent to obtain a WMD from North Korea, that is transported to another world. The team then finds themselves pitted against a dangerous alien race."

James E. Cavanaugh came up with the idea and wrote the screenplay "with an eye on current scientific trends in physics and biology."

Bousman said that it's “a love letter to the sci-fi films I grew up watching with my dad such as Alien, Predator, Enemy Mine, Tremors. But I also want it to have the more modern feel of some of the recent video games I am currently playing, like Halo and Call of Duty. This can be a balls-to-the-walls action fantasy and it’s franchise-able outside of the movie universe. There is a whole world to explore with Apex.”

It sounds like it could be really cool! Producers are looking to show off some key art and alien designs at this year’s Comic-Con.

It's A Superhero Beach Party! Art by Julian Totino Tedesco

This amusing illustration comes from artist Julian Totino Tedesco. It was created for Tampa Bay Comic-Con, and it features several superheroes throwing a massive beach party, and several other iconic pop culture characters were invited. There's a lot of funny stuff going on in the image, my favorite is Batman fully dressed in black standing in the shade with Alfred handing him a drink. He must be miserable.

Bryan Singer Looking to Direct Image Comics' THE AGE OF HEROES

X-Men director Bryan Singer is currently developing X-Men: Apocalypse for 20th Century Fox. He's expected to direct the film regardless of the sexual abuse scandal and lawsuit. But who knows what will happen if things go badly for him.

Fox President of Production Emma Watts told THR, "Right now we are totally at the outlining phase [on X-Men: Apocalypse]. But nothing would make me happier than if it all worked out. It's always been the intention for [Bryan] to do it."

So if it doesn't "all work out" does that mean Singer won't be directing X-Men: Apocalypse? I guess we'll have to wait and see how this all plays out. Singer is already prepping a new project for him to take on if Apocalypse doesn't work out, or as something he can do after. The Tracking Board is reporting that Singer and his production company, Bad Hat Harry Productions, have picked up the rights to the 1990s Image Comics series The Age of Heroes. They've also hired Alex Hollister to write the script.

Here is some story information for Age of Heroes:

When the gods were born, they remade the world in the image of their dreams. This was known as the Age of Gods. When man was created along with other races of beings, fantastic cities were raised, insane magics were forged and unimaginable wars were fought, as the gods battled for supremacy over all creation. This was known as the Age of Wonders. When the gods fled and man was left to make his way in a world full of monsters and arcane magic, some rose up to right wrongs and create justice. This was known as The Age of Heroes.

Seven misfits and outcasts were brought together by fate. They are presented with a problem the gods themselves can't solve. For the gods are no longer in the world. They are Drake, the blind bard. Conor, a one-armed sell sword. Glinda the weaver. Mael, knight of the burning crystal. Wex, a Dalen monk. Luko and Aerwyn, clever thieves. The actions of these seven will usher in a new age. The Age of Heroes.

There's a Tumblr I stumbled across recently called It's Better With Batman, and it features images from movies, TV, and video games with Batman photoshopped into them. It's spectacularly amusing. I've posted a few of them for you to check out here, but make sure to visit the blog where there are a lot more great pictures.

Jon Hamm to Join Richard Linklater's INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET Remake

0

01_Jon_284.jpg

Mad Men star Jon Hamm is looking to join the remake of the 1964 Don Knotts film, The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Other actors in talks to come on board include Kevin Hart, Danny McBride, Sarah Silverman, Josh Gad, and comedy duo Key & Peele. If cast they will join Zach Galifianakis.

The movie is being directed by Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, After Midnight) from a script based on the novel by Theodore Pratt. Warner Bros. has been trying to get this movie made for the last 20 years, and it looks like it's finally coming together.

The original story followed "an everyman who is transformed into a fish and goes on to fight Nazis." In this new version, Galifianakis is expected to play Larry Limpet, "a bearded beach bum trying to save the fish population. When he's turned into a fish, Limpet sets out on an adventure to save his town and the sea world, learning valuable lessons along the way."

Sounds like it could be just as silly as the original movie. Linklater is a great filmmaker though, and I'm sure he'll do some fun things with it.

Wow! Some People Actually Think Steven Spielberg Killed a Triceratops!?

jurassic_park_steven_spielberg_triceratops.png

Sometimes people shockingly surprise me. A photo of director Steven Spielberg sitting in front of an animatronic dinosaur popped up on Facebook. The photo is obviously from the set of Jurassic Park, but that didn't stop people on Facebook from getting pissed off at him for killing the poor fake Triceratops. Can you believe that!? This is what the guy who posted the picture said in his caption:

"Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a Triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man."

I have no words for this, I just laughed a lot. Check out the Facebook to read more funny comments. Thanks to Geekologie for the tip!

The Weinstein Company has released a music video for Jeff Bridges' feature film adaptation of The Giver. It features a new song by OneRepublic called "Ordinary Human," and it includes new footage from the fantastic looking film.

The movie was directed by Phillip Noyce and it also stars Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgård, Katie Holmes, Odeya Rush, and Taylor Swift.

The haunting story of The Giver centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry's beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

The movie will be released in theaters on August 15th.

Check out Batgirl's Fabulous New Uniform

check-out-batgirls-fabulous-new-uniform

Batgirl has an all new look, and a cool new uniform to fight crime in. I personally love it, and it's going to be great when we start seeing cosplayers sporting it in real life. The design comes from comic illustrator Babs Tarr who is making her mainstream comic debut with Batgirl.

The new comic writing team consists of Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher, who worked on Batman Inc. and Wednesday Comics. Barbara Gordon's new adventure begins with Batgirl #35, and it will reevaluate her life in a big way.

Stewart talked about the direction they are taking the character with MTV saying:

"She's leaving it all behind her. We really wanted to make this a book with a light tone, of fun and adventure and mystery, and let the rest of the Bat-family deal with the darkness. She's got problems, and conflict, and enemies to fight, but our priority was to make this a really fun, rollicking read."

Barbara ends up moving to a trendy hip part of Gotham City, and there she will focus on going to graduate school. She will still go out and solve mysteries and fight villains, but she will also go out and have some fun.

Fletcher then adds that the new take "mixes the best elements of Veronica Mars and Girls, with a dash of Sherlock thrown in for good measure." Sounds like fun to me.

"We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!"

Sony Pictures has released a trailer for the 30th anniversary re-release of the classic 1984 movie Ghostbusters. The movie will have a one-week engagement, and will be shown in more than 700 theaters nationwide beginning August 29th. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I couldn't be more excited to watch it on the big screen again. The last time I saw this movie in theaters is when it was first released back in the 80s when I was 5 years old. My kids love this movie too, so it will be fun to take them to see it on the big screen.

DC fans-get ready for a superhero Saturday night, designed specifically for you! For the first time ever at Comic-Con, Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment will present a three-hour event in Hall H featuring some of DC Comics's greatest characters. Kicking off the exclusive evening is the world premiere public screening of the highly anticipated new drama seriesGotham, allowing fans their first trip into the dangerous and compelling world of the iconic city. This will be the only screening of Gotham at Comic-Con, and it will be followed by a screening of the complete pilot episode of new action-drama The Flash, as well as exclusive video presentations of returning hit Arrow and new thriller Constantine. Cast and producers from all four series will make special appearances on stage throughout the night, with the festivities to be hosted by Oliver Queen himself -- Arrow star Stephen Amell.

Gotham - Before there was Batman, there was Gotham. With a reputation synonymous with law and order, Commissioner James Gordon is one of the crime world's greatest foes. Everyone knows the name. But what is known of Gordon's rise from rookie detective to police commissioner? And what did it take to navigate the layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world's most iconic villains-the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? Gotham is the origin story of the great DC Comics supervillains and vigilantes, revealing a new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), this one-hour drama follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the genesis of one of the most popular superheroes of our time. The series stars Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.), Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy, Vikings), Sean Pertwee (Elementary), Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead), Erin Richards (Being Human), David Mazouz (Touch),Camren Bicondova, Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice), Cory Michael Smith (Carol), Victoria Cartagena (The Good Wife), Andrew Stewart-Jones (Person of Interest), and Jada Pinkett Smith (The Matrix films), and is executive produced by Heller, Danny Cannon(Nikita), and John Stephens (Gossip Girl). From Warner Bros. Television, Gothampremieres this fall, Mondays at 8/7c on FOX.

The Flash - From the Arrow creative team of executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter, The Flash is a fast-paced superhero drama that follows the high-speed adventures of the Fastest Man Alive. Written by Berlanti, Kreisberg, and DC Entertainment's chief creative officer Geoff Johns, the action drama follows Central City police scientist Barry Allen, an everyday guy with the heart of a hero and the genuine desire to help others. Standing still emotionally since the day his mother was murdered (and his father unjustly jailed for the crime), Barry was taken in as a child by the investigating Detective West and raised in a cop's home alongside West's super-smart daughter (and Barry's dream girl), Iris. But when an unexpected and devastating accident at the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator facility strikes Barry, he finds himself suddenly charged with the incredible power to move at super speeds. While Barry has always been a hero in his soul, his newfound powers have finally given him the ability to act like one. With a winning personality and a smile on his face, Barry Allen-aka The Flash-is finally moving forward in life...very, very fast! The series stars Grant Gustin (Arrow), Candice Patton (The Game),Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries), Danielle Panabaker (Necessary Roughness), Carolos Valdes (on Broadway: Once), with Tom Cavanagh (Ed), and Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order). From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, The Flash premieres this fall on Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.

Constantine - John Constantine is a man waging war against the forces of darkness -from both within himself and the outside world. An irreverent, working-class con man and occult expert, he's an experienced exorcist and demonologist with an extensive list of supernatural contacts, each with their own paranormal talents and abilities. Following the aftermath of a tragic incident, Constantine has voluntarily checked himself into an asylum and sworn off investigating matters of the supernatural, but when a cryptic message calls him out to reluctantly resume his old life, he finds himself saving the life of a young woman whom he's never met but is connected to in a very important way. With dark forces gathering power in the world, Constantine allies himself with Manny, a rogue warrior angel, and his giant childhood protector, Chas-the only friend who's managed to stay alive. Based on characters published by DC Entertainment, Constantine reflects the lore of the fan-favorite comic, combining noirish storytelling with the evolving mythology of John Constantine, a morally challenged character who doesn't come down on the side of either good or evil...but ultimately might be the only thing defending us against the dark forces from beyond. The series stars Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior),Harold Perrineau (Lost), and Charles Halford (True Detective) and is executive produced by Daniel Cerone (Dexter) and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy). From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television,Constantine will air Fridays at 10/9c on NBC, premiering October 24.

Reese Witherspoon goes on an extraordinary journey in her new film Wild. The movie comes from Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée. It is based on a memoir by Cheryl Strayed, who went on a 1000-mile Pacific Crest Trail after her mom died and her marriage ended. The film looks great, and Witherspoon is sure to give a solid performance. Here's a synopsis:

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

The movie will be released on December 5th.

Steven Soderbergh Will Direct Full Second Season of THE KNICK

Cinemax has yet to premiere Steven Soderbergh's new TV series The Knick, but the cable network has already renewed it for a second season. The series stars Clive Owen and is set in downtown New York in 1900, and it focuses "on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics."

Soderbergh talked to Variety about the series and revealed that he will return as director and direct all 10-episodes of season 2.

"I’m going to do all 10 — you’re seeing a trend now of … a sense that there’s a positive aspect to having a visual language that’s very specific and very unified throughout the show. It’s not only creatively satisfying, but also, practically speaking, better … in terms of economics … we schedule it like a film."

I love that he's coming back to direct the series. I love his directing style, and I'm glad he hasn't completely retired. Hell, he's directing 20 hours of entertainment! The director continues:

"11 months ago, I did not think I’d be sitting here talking about 10 hours of material that is behind us and 10 hours in front of us, but I had a very similar reaction to the one Clive had when I read the first script … I knew that, as the first person who got to take a look at it, the second person who was going to see it would say yes. My whole life, I’ve moved in any direction that I felt was going to engage me and excite me."

I'm incredibly excited about this series. I've been fascinated about the history of medicine for a long time, and the show looks absolutely incredible.

George R.R. Martin Gives a Big "F-You" to His Fans

A short 3-second video of A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R. Martin, was released in which he gives his fans the finger and says "F**k you to those people." This is in response to a question where he is asked about what he thinks of his fans who are demanding that he hurry up and finish the series. The reason for this is because a lot of fans thinks he's going to die before he does. I'd say his response is completely appropriate. He'll finish it when he finishes it. Here's the full quote that you don't hear in the video:

“I find that question, you know, pretty offensive, frankly, when people start speculating about my death and my health,” Martin said, adding “so f**k you to those people.”

Thanks to Technabob for the heads up!
