New Line Cinema is in the process of developing a spin-off film for the creepy-ass horror movie The Conjuring. It's called Annabelle, and it is set to be released in theaters on October 24th.

The story will center on the haunted doll that audiences were introduced to into James Wan's The Conjuring. The doll currently resides in the collection of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

The film is being directed by John Leonetti, the cinematographer of The Conjuring. The script for the film was written by Gary Dauberman, and it stars Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), Ward Horton, and Alfre Woodard.

All I can hope for is that the horror movie will be just as dark and creepy as the film that spawned it.

Gearbox Releases First Trailer for BATTLEBORN

The new IP from Borderlands developer Gearbox was announced via Game Informer, and is the cover story for the month, but even if you're not a subscriber you can still peep the announcement trailer down below (I know, I'm a giver). The game is a first person shooter that tries to blend some of the leveling and ability trees of Mobas with a team based shooter. The game sticks out with its slick and stylized art and its interesting (to say the least) cast of heroes. I'm not a huge fan of first person shooters, but being able to control that sick looking samurai or the tough elven ranger might be just the thing to lure me over. There's no mention of a release date yet, but the game will be coming out for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

J.K. Rowling Writes New HARRY POTTER Story

jk-rowling-writes-new-harry-potter-story

It's been seven long years since J.K. Rowling wrote the final book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Well, fans will be happy to hear that the wizard is back in an all new story, and he's all grown up.

The story was posted on Pottermore this morning, where it can be read in its entirety. It centers on a 34-year-old Harry Potter, and it takes place in the Patagonian Desert for the Quidditch World Cup. You'll also be happy to hear that Ron, Hermione, Neville, and Luna are all there in attendance with him! It also includes The Daily Prophet‘s Rita Skeeter, who continues to give commentary on the group of friends. The story is actually written up as a gossip column by Skeeter. She spots Potter and his pals in the VIP section of the Quidditch match, and she obviously still doesn't care for them. But, her article does offer some updates on the characters that you might be interested in reading.

The story "offers a snapshot of the current lives of the former Hogwarts friends, as well as a tantalizing glimpse into the next generation." I've included a little information from the story on a few characters mentioned below.

The article describes Potter as having "threads of silver" in his black hair, and he also has a mysterious cut over his cheekbone. Skeeter speculates that the cut has been inflicted on him as part of his career as an Auror, or a wizard trained to apprehend dark wizards.

Ron's ginger hair "appears to be thinning slightly,” and he has left his job as an Auror after two years to help George manage Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.

Hermione is now the Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and will of course rise even higher in her career.  She's still married to Ron.

Luna doesn't seem to have changed much and is described as being "delightfully eccentric.” She has married Rolf Scamander, described as the “swarthy” grandson of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them author Newt Scamander. Oh! And they have twin sons.

As for Neville Longbottom, he lives above the Leaky Cauldron in London, and is married to Hannah Abbott. He’s fittingly an Herbology professor at Hogwarts. His wife has had Healer training and is trying to get the Matron job at Hogwarts.

To find out more just read the story! It was actually kind of cool revisiting these characters again, and seeing where they are in their lives.

First Official Look at Michael Rooker's Yondu from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

first-official-look-at-michael-rookers-yondu-from-guardians-of-the-galaxy

I've been waiting to see the first official look at Michael Rooker as the character Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy, and here it is! This was a very quick glmipse of the character that was thrown in to the most recent extended trailer that was released.

In the comics, Yondu is one of the four founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. His right hand was replaced with a bionic device, and he was a game hunter in a primitive tribe of humanoid beings native to the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun's solar system. Along with his superb athletic skills, he also has mental powers.

I'm not quite sure how he'll be portrayed in this movie yet, or how big of a role he will play, but he sure looks like he could be an awesome character! Rooker is perfect for this role, and I love the look!

First Photos from PUNK'S DEAD: SLC PUNK 2

Liberty Spike Productions has released eight photos from director James Merendino's new film Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2. The film was successfully crowd funded through IndieGoGo, and it's awesome to see this movie taking shape! I'm a huge fan of the original 1990s film, which over the years has become a cult classic. It's going to be really awesome to be able to revisit some of these characters.

The photos include a huge mosh pit, Bob's ravaged headstone, Hannah Marks as Penny, Ben Schnetzer as Ross, Michael Goorjian returning as Heroin Bob, and more. Devon Sawa will reprise his role and Til Schweiger is rumored to be returning as well.

The story will revolve around a new character, who happens to be the child of Heroin Bob and Trish. Merendino went into a little more detail in a previous interview saying, “It’s about him interacting in this world with a much sharper point of view than even Stevo. He’s sort of a goth kid. He’s not mired by having to say he’s a punk rocker. I don’t know what else to say. I could give away more spoilers but then who’s gonna want to see the movie?”

I imagine the movie will end up premiering at the Sundance Film Festival next year. The first movie opened up the festival in 1999, so it would be a fitting return.

Artist Jim Mahfood took the already wild designs from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, and took them to a new level with the illustration he did here. The artist definitely had some fun playing around with these characters and created some very unique looking character designs. Thanks to Comics Alliance for the tip!

Disney Developing Live-Action DUMBO Movie

$

dumbo-1941-05-g.jpg

Disney is developing a live-action feature film adaptation of Dumbo, and you know how I know it's going to suck? Because it's being written by Ehren Kruger, who worked on all those terrible Transformers movie scripts. I'm not sure who could watch those Transformers movies and be like, "Wow! We've got hire the writer of this to write our movie!" Justin Springer is producing the film and he has worked on bringing films such as Tron: Legacy and Oblivion to life.

I'm not the biggest fan of Dumbo. It might just be my least favorite of all the classic Disney animated movies. It's so damn depressing. The original film tells the story of a baby circus elephant who is made fun of for his big ears. His mother steps in to protect him at one point and is locked up for it. Dumbo ends up on the road with a circus and he has a mouse as his companion, who makes the elephant believe in the idea that with the help of a magic feather, he can fly.

According to THR, "the new take involves the adaptation of the original movie while adding a unique family story that parallels Dumbo's story. Also, the studio believes that because of the current state of CG technology, live-action movies featuring a soaring pachyderm (or any animal for that matter) are viable."

Disney is also developing live-action adaptations of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and a sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Next thing you know, we'll be getting a live-action adaptation of The Great Mouse Detective

Anyone out there excited for a live-action Dumbo movie being written by one of the guys who wrote Transformers

Striking Trailer for EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS

The first trailer for Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings has been released. The film tells the epic biblical story of Moses, who led the Israelites out of Egypt into the Sinai desert and to their Promised Land. Moses is played by Christian Bale in the film, which also stars Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver, and of course, Ben Kingsley

I wasn't sure what I would think about this movie, but judging from this first trailer it looks really good. As you'll see, it's got everything that we love about the films that Scott makes. I especially love the visuals.

The film is set to be released on December 12th.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Shooting in IMAX

Looks like J.J. Abrams has been shooting some scenes from Star Wars: Episode VII in IMAX. Bad Robot tweeted the above photo featuring an IMAX camera shooting the sand dunes of Tatooine. We knew the movie would be released in IMAX, what we didn't know is that it would actually be shot in the epic format.

I truly enjoy watching movies that have been shot in the full IMAX format. To me that is way better than 3D could ever be. I'm really happy to see that the next Star Wars film is getting in on the IMAX action! I'm looking forward to the day when I will once again be completely engulfed in this awesome sci-fi fantasy universe.

Warner Bros. Bringing MAD MAX and THE HOBBIT to Comic-Con 2014

Warner Bros. Bringing MAD MAX and THE HOBBIT to Comic-Con 2014

The last couple of years Warner Bros. has put on incredibly entertaining Comic-Con panel events for their films. The studio has announced that this year they will be bringing The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Jupiter Ascending to the massive geek convention. The studio announced that the panel will take place on Saturday, July 26th.

You may have noticed that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is not a part of the lineup, which is crazy to me! The only thing I can think is that the studio will surprise fans with Zack Snyder, who will show us some footage. I'll be shocked if they don't show anything — this is the crowd that's going to want to see it!

Director Peter Jackson will be there to talk about the third and final installment in The Hobbit franchise. Director George Miller will also be in attendance to show off the first footage from Mad Max, which stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. The studio also plans on showing off some new footage from the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending, which no one seems to really care about.

Warner Bros. will also host a fan screening of their upcoming tornado thriller Into the Storm, directed by Steven Quale. The screening will take place on Wednesday, July 23th at 10 p.m. at the Gaslamp Theatre.

DC Entertainment will also be celebrating Batman’s 75th year with all-star panel appearances by Batman talent as well as a rare display at the DC Entertainment booth of some of the famous costumes from the films worn by actors such as Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, and Michael Keaton.

Ridley Scott to Make a New Bible Film Based on King David

Caravaggio-David-With-Goliaths-Head.jpg

Yesterday the first trailer for Ridley Scott's Moses film Exodus: Gods and Kings was released, and it looks pretty damn good. The director isn't done with adapting Bible stories, though. According to Variety he's looking to adapt the story of King David for the big screen.

20th Century Fox has hired Jonathan Stokes to write the screenplay for the film, which is tentatively titled David.  The movie is inspired by the character from the "David and Goliath tale and [focuses] on the King of Israel. Though the plot is under wraps, it’s likely that the film would focus on the king’s reign post-Goliath."

As of right now Scott is only set to produce, but he's also looking to direct it as well. He is currently prepping to direct The Martian, starring Matt Damon, as well as the Prometheus sequel. I imagine the studio will wait until Scott's schedule frees up so he can direct the movie if it's something he would like to do.

The bible really is full of amazing stories that would make for great movies. He's picking the most popular ones, but there are other stories in there that would make even better films.

Okay, I hate to admit this, but this new full trailer for Sharknado 2: The Second One actually made me laugh. I've been against this stupid-ass sequel from the beginning, but this is the first thing I've seen that I actually thought was amusing. I seriously hate the fact that this actually put a smile on my face because I just didn't want to like this damn thing! Damn the SyFy Channel, and damn myself!

A freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites - and only Fin and April can save the Big Apple.

The series premieres on Wednesday, July 30th at 9/8c. I have also included a featurette below the trailer.

AMC is once again bringing The Walking Dead to San Diego Comic-Con! This will be the fourth year that the zombies have invaded the massive geek gathering.

The cast and crew will appear at the panel, which is set to take place on Friday, July 25th in the gloriously huge Hall H from 12:20-1:20pm.

They will, of course, be talking about the highly anticipated fifth season which is currently shooting, so you can bet your ass that they will have some footage to show off.

Panelists will include cast members Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman, Michael Cudlitz, executive producer and showrunner Scott Gimple, Executive Producers Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert and special effects make-up supervisor and executive producer Greg Nicotero. Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick will moderate the panel.

Autographs to follow from 1:50-2:50 PM in booth # 4237. Then there will be a Walking Dead amusement event that will take place offsite. Its called Walking Dead Escape, and participants play “survivors” dashing through a ‘Zombie infected Evacuation Zone” at Petco Park, while being chased by zombies.

The photo above is from the first season of the show, during happier times.
