BATMAN V SUPERMAN Fan Art - Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

GeekTyrant reader Dave Paget sent this great looking piece of fan-made concept art to us featuring his vision of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I absolutely love what he's come up with, and I had to share it with you. This is what the artist had to say about it:

"Hello! Sometime ago, when rumors were spiraling around the internet about a possible Justice League of America movie being made, I did a design of what Wonder Woman could possibly look like.

"Well, the other day the first official photo of Superman was released for Dawn of Justice, and it inspired me to redesign my concept of Wonder Woman.

"Previously, I 'cast' Gina Carano as Wonder Woman because I thought she'd be a good fit. Warner Bros didn't accept my proposal (their choice I guess...) and cast Gal Gadot - גל גדות instead. However, I think Gadot is an interesting pick, and I'm really excited to see what she does with the role.

"Anyway, hope you all like the design.

"Cheers!"

Brandon Routh Joins ARROW as The Atom

Superman Returns star Brandon Routh will be playing another DC Comics superhero. The actor was recently cast in CW's Arrow series as Ray Palmer, a.k.a. The Atom.

The character is set to appear in the upcoming third season of the series. The news comes from TV Line, who reports that Palmer will serve as a love interest for Felicity Smoak. He will serve as the new head of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.

In case you're not familiar with the character, he's capable of shrinking to subatomic sizes, so he could run across one of Arrow's Arrows if he wanted too. Ray Palmer was created by Julius Schwartz, Gardner Fox, and Gil Kane in 1961. He's a member of the Justice League (and Teen Titans at one point). The Atom and Green Arrow also share a common villain in Deathstroke.

Batman Arkham Origins SDCC Exclusive Play Arts Figure Available for Pre-order

SDCC is almost upon us, and with that comes a load of exclusive goodies just for attendees of the show. Square Enix however did not want to leave anyone out in the cold, so even if you're not going to be at the show, you can still snag one of these sweet variants of the Arkham Origins-style Batman. Only 1,000 of these bad boys will be made, split between the show and online, so make sure to claim yours early.

I'm a big fan of the Play Arts line of heavily articulable figures, and this version comes with all the bells and whistles the line is known for. The biggest pluses are the articulated cape, and the included batarang and grapple gun, with a few interchangeable hands to boot. I can't get over how pretty that paint job is either, but anything can look fantastic in a photo, so I would love to see it in person to give it a final evaluation. You can order yours now (to ship in August) for $99.99.

Marvel just released an incredibly awesome new extended trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. It's packed full with never-before-seen footage that you're going to love. This flick looks so freakin' badass. I've also included a collection of 18 photos that were also released.

17 minutes of the film was recently screened tonight, and I've been seeing a ton of people raving about it on Twitter. Marvel has another big winner on their hands. The movie comes out on August 1st, and I couldn't be more stoked!

Microsoft has released a trailer for their upcoming release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. They call it the "Terminal" trailer, and it focuses on Master Chief's "friend."

The Master Chief Collection will be released on Xbox One, and it has over 100 multiplayer maps — every map made for Halo 1-4 in 1080p, 60fps on dedicated servers.

Also Included in the collection is Halo: Nightfall, an original live-action digital series that introduces a pivotal new character in Halo 5: Guardians. Then in December, the journey continues with the competitive multiplayer beta of Halo 5: Guardians, which will all lead up to the fall 2015 launch alongside the Halo TV series.

The collection will be released on November 11th.

X-MEN: DAY OF FUTURE PAST Extended Director's Cut Confirmed

X-Men: Days of Future Past producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed via Twitter that an extended director's cut of the film will be coming to Blu-ray later this year.

She also confirmed that some of the scenes that will be included in the cut will involve Anna Paquin's Rogue. Awhile back director Bryan Singer said the scenes she was in ended up on the cutting room floor.

Those scenes were said to include an entire action sequence in which Iceman, Magneto, and Professor X rescue Rogue from the sentinels. In another part of the movie she uses her powers to help keep Wolverine's mind in his younger body after he inadvertently injures Kitty. Other scenes that will most likely be included are other scenes with Mystique interacting with Beast and Wolverine, which is something we saw in the trailers for the movie.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was the best X-Men movie made to date, and I'll be looking forward to watching it again when it's released on Blu-ray!

Check out this sweet-ass poster art for Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 2. It was created by artist Joshua Budich for the Quentin vs Coen art show being held at the Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco.

The show opened on Saturday, July 5th, and the art will remain on display until July 26th. If you want to buy some of the art, online sales begin July 8th, here

I loved the Kill Bill movies, and I would love to see Tarantino make another sequel one day. He's talked about it in the past, but the last we heard it didn't sound like Vol. 3 would go down.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn released another photo from his highly anticipated Marvel film. This one features his brother Sean Gunn in the role of Kraglin. According to Gunn, he is the first mate of Yondu (Michael Rooker) in the Ravagers. He definitely looks like a badass character. Hopefully we get to see a full image of Yondu soon!

Check out this brilliantly entertaining piece of mashup art that combines Game of Thrones with Studio Ghibli's animated classic My Neighbor Totoro. If you take a closer look at the Iron Throne, you will see that it's actually made out of umbrellas, which I thought was hilarious. The art was posted by @gen_ghibli, and I hope you enjoy it!

JURASSIC WORLD - First Supposed Photo of a Velociraptor

The photo above recently surfaced online, and apparently it's our first look at one of the animatronic Velociraptor's that will be used in director Collin Trevorrow's Jurassic World. The photo came with the following caption:

This is an actual Velociraptor for the upcoming film Jurassic World! #jurassicworld #dinosaur #universalstudios #StevenSpielberg #Velociraptor #HYPE

There's not real way to confirm its authenticity at this point, but it looks like it could be the real deal. Legacy Effects is the group that is currently working on the animatronic Dinosaurs in the movie, and they are based in California, where the photo above was supposedly taken.

Jurassic World will be released in theaters June 12th, 2015. Whether this is part of the movie or not, these Velocirators will be back in the franchise to wreak havoc!

72-Minute Trailer for the Longest Movie Ever Made - AMBIANCE

0

72-minute-trailer-for-the-longest-movie-ever-made.jpg

A trailer has been released for the longest movie ever made. The movie is called Ambiancé, and it's a 720-hour long film. That's 30 days. The trailer for the film alone is 72-minutes long.

The movie comes from Swedish filmmaker and artist Anders Weberg, and he is looking to premiere it in 2020. The trailer is described as follows:

In the piece Ambiancé space and time is intertwined into a surreal dream-like journey beyond places and is an abstract nonlinear narrative summary of the artist’s time spent with the moving image . A sort of memoir movie . (Film memoir ) . This in the visual expression that is constantly characterized the work throughout the artists career.

This whole thing seems like such an insane idea. Who in the world (other than the artist, and maybe some of his friends) is going to sit down for 30 days and watch this movie? It just seems maddening to me. Would any of you do it? Hell! Are any of you even going to watch the trailer?!

Growing Up Geek - My Introduction to Video Games

0

models 013.jpg

I have spent a lot of my youth and adult life playing video games. It amazes me how far video game technology has come. As I said in my first Growing Up Geek post, I was born the same month and year that Space Invaders came out. It wasn't until I was 5 years old that I got my first taste of video game awesomeness, though.

It was 1983, and it was a time when I was hanging out with my Grandpa a lot. He watched me while my mom and dad worked. There was a little cafe that had recently opened up near his house, and one morning he took me out to breakfast there.

The name of the place is Ogie's, and it's still there today. I remember walking in through the front door and passing by this big, weird-shaped box with a TV in it. From the moment I saw it, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. This game was Pac-Man, and as I sat there eating my chocolate donut for breakfast and drinking my hot chocolate, I just stared at the box with the colorful yellow character and ghosts.

I finally asked my grandpa what it was, and he told me it was a video playing machine. I'm sure I gave him a very perplexed look, and he asked me if I wanted to play it. I was thinking to myself "I can play this thing? How in the world do I do that!?" Of course I said yes, and he reached into his pocket and gave me a couple of quarters.

I took them, got up, and sheepishly walked over to the game as my grandpa sat there to finish his food. As I walked up to the thing I looked up, and it just seemed so huge and intimidating. I could barely see the screen. A waitress came over with a little box to stand on and said to me, "Here you go, sweetie." I stood up on the box and said thank you.

The screen was full of color and I watched in awe as this little yellow circle was eating dots in a maze and being chased by ghosts. I grabbed the joystick for the first time and fidgeted with it for a bit as I watched the game do its thing. I looked down and saw two little slots in the machine and then I looked at the quarters my grandpa had given me. I used my brilliant common sense and put the quarter in the slot. The game made a little "balloink" sound, then I saw a button and pushed it.

All of a sudden I was thrust into action! I took the joystick and panickedly started moving the joystick around, eating dots and trying to avoid the villainous ghosts. At one point I ate one of the big dots, and the ghosts turned blue and ran away from me. I didn't understand what that meant at first, but through trial and error I learned pretty quickly. I died pretty quickly as well.

After I died, I quickly inserted the second quarter and played again. I was better the second time around, I stayed alive a little bit longer, and I was hooked. After the second game ended I turned around to find my grandpa standing behind me smiling. He said it was time to go, so we left. All I wanted to do was play again, and I talked my grandpa's ear off about it on the way home.

The next day, guess what happened? My grandpa took me to the same place, handed me four quarters, and let me play the game again. He took me here all the time for a couple of years and during that time I became a Pac-Man master! I freakin' love that game, and whenever I see it I have to play it.

I recently went to that place again while I was visiting where I grew up, and it really took me back. Pac-Man has since been replaced by one of those money eating claw machines. There's obviously have very special place in my heart for Pac-Man. It was the only game I knew about for years until one year I went to Disneyland where they had an arcade full of awesome games!

When we got back from the trip my cousin and I found an arcade right across the street from where I had been playing Pac-Man all those years.

Pac-Man is the game that brought me into the gaming world, and I've been a fan of playing video games ever since. What was your first video game experience!?

Harley Quinn Goes to Comic-Con in One-Shot Comic Book

HARLEYSD_Cv1_SDCCvar.2.jpg

DC Comics is releasing a special one-shot comic book issue that features Harley Quinn invading San Diego Comic-Con. The title of the comic is called Harley Quinn Invades Comic-Con International: San Diego. Here's the description of the comic, and the adventure that Quinn will be on while at the epic geek convention:

Our favorite little troublemaker, Harley Quinn, takes on Comic-Con International: San Diego in this over the top issue! She’ll have to battle long lines, crazy crowds and the dread con crud, all in the quest to get her own comic book published!

The comic also will include Arrow star Stephen Amell. According to TV Guide, his cameo is one of many Easter eggs that will be packed into the book.

The comic was written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner and the art in it comes from various artists. Here's what Connor had to say in an interview:

"Harley and her freak show friends get a booth at Comic-Con. Harley to come along to help them out [and] wherever she goes, mayhem ensues, and that's what happens at Comic-Con. More mayhem than the usual."

Palmiotti continues saying:

"We've been going to Comic-Con for over 20 years and we tried to put in all the positive stuff. We wanted to celebrate Comic-Con rather than go after it. Because that's a whole different book altogether."

They go on to reveal that Harley herself is an amateur comic illustrator. Palimiotti explains:

"She has a comic strip that she wants to show off at the Con to see if anyone's interested in hiring her to draw it. It features a character Harley made up called Hurl Girl, a superhero whose power is to throw up."

We all know that Quinn is batshit insane, and that's why we love her. Conner had this to say about her character:

"She's out of her mind, so anything goes. There's nothing we can think up that's too crazy for Harley, and that's the best thing. We'll think of something absolutely insane and, [realize] oh yeah, we can do that with Harley."

It almost sounds like they are turning Harley Quinn into a Deadpool type character. The two would definitely make a great couple!

The comic goes on sale Wednesday, July 16th at comic book shops and will be available digitally at readdcentertainment.com and via the DC Comics app, the iBookstore, Nook Store, and Kindle Store.

3 Posters for EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS with Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton

20th Century Fox has released three posters for Ridley Scott's biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, which tells the story of the prophet Moses. The posters feature Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Ramsses, and he sure does look weird in the role. After having seen these posters, it doesn't look like Edgerton is right for the part. He doesn't look Egyptian at all. I'll wait until I see the trailer, but it looks like it could be a distraction in the film… for me at least. I just don't want to sit there watching the movie thinking that he looks weird the whole time. I'm sure it will be fine! Scott knows what he's doing, right?

The movie is set to be released on December 12th. You can expect to see the first trailer soon.

10 Best Prison Break Movies and Scenes

0
0

Who doesn't love a good prison break? I was thinking about it recently and realized some of my favorite movies involve prison breaks. This year alone there were two movies that I saw that featured brilliant prison break scenes. If I ever get thrown into jail, the first thing I'm going to do is start plotting my escape! I'll want a good story to tell people.

I came up with a list of ten movies that included kick-ass prison break scenes. No matter what kind of prision a person is in, I imagine it's hell. Sure, some are worse than others, but I imagine anyone that ever been thrown in one can't wait to get out. There is a point for many of these characters where they ain't got nothin' to loose, so escaping become their only option. If I ever do have to break out of a prison these movies will be my guide in coming up with a plan.

The Shawshank Redemption - 1994

Of course this movie is going to be on the list! It's not only one of the greatest movies ever, it's also one of the best executed and most surprising prison breaks ever put on film. I remember how gleefully shocked I was when the ending came the first time I saw this movie. It made the whole message of hope so much more meaningful. It was just so powerful.

Escape from Alcatraz - 1979

This Clint Eastwood movie is a favorite of mine. I've always been fascinated by Alcatraz and the story of how Frank Morris escaped. Most of the movie is spent planning and preparing for the escape and watching them actually perform the prison break is so cool. It took some balls for these guys to try to escape, so I'd like to think that they actually made it.

The Great Escape - 1963

This fantastic Steve McQueen film told the story to a group of World War II POWs tunneling out of a prison camp. This was a thrilling action-packed adventure movie that is worth watching if you haven't seen it yet.

Cool Hand Luke - 1967

"What we’ve got here is failure to communicate…" Like the title suggests, this is a really cool movie. It stars Paul Newman as a decorated war veteran doing time in a chain-gang prison. He puts up with a lot of shit their with its sadistic officers, and because he escapes multiple times he is idolised by the other prisoners.

Escape from New York - 1981

Snake Plissken is one of the most badass antiheroes in the movies. The character is sent into to New York's Manahatten Island, which was turned into a maximum security prison that holds the worst of the worst, to break out the President of the United States, who was captured by the prisoners. He has 24 hours to complete the task, and it's an entertaining adventure!

Watchmen - 2009

"None of you seem to understand… I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!" One of my favorite parts of this movie is when Rorschach is put in prison. I came to fear and respect that character even more during his time there. Nite Owl and Silk Spectre II go in to get him out, and it turned out to be one hell of a cool prison break.

Papillon - 1973

This was a really different and trippy kind of movie. It stars Steve McQueen as a criminal who is exiled to the infamous prison colony on Devil's Island in French Guiana. This film chronicles all of the escape attempts of the main character over his 14-year sentence. The transformation McQueen's character makes throughout the movie is haunting.

Midnight Express - 1978

This movie scarred me. It was an ultra-violent movie that told the true story of how US citizen Billy Hayes was thrown into a Turkish prison after being caught smuggling drugs out of Istanbul. His stay in this prison makes all of these other movies look like a kids playground. The scene in which he escapes with pure luck is so freakin' intense. The movie will make you never want to smuggle drugs out of a foreign country.

X-Men: Days of Future Past -2014

I know almost all of you will agree that the best scene of this movie is when Quicksilver broke Magneto out of prison. It was simply stunning in every way. I was so disappointed that Quicksilver wasn't in the movie more after that. The movie was great, but let's be honest… it was all downhill after that prison escape.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 2014

The prison escape scene in this Wes Anderson film is hands down the most entertaining one that I've ever seen. It was just so amazingly fun and well thought out. This isn't just one of my favorite movie prison escapes all time, it also might just be one of my all time favorite movie scenes ever.

Marvel Brings on Two New Writers for ANT-MAN

marvel-brings-on-two-new-writers-for-ant-man

According to our friends at Latino-Review, Marvel has hired two new writers to rewrite the script most recently revised by Adam McKay. Those two screenwriters are Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer. They are production writers, which means that they will be on the set of the film while it's shooting in Atlanta. So they will constantly be working on the script and making revisions during production.

This really isn't a big issue as it is a common practice in the movie business. There's a good chance that these two guys won't even get any screen credit. That will be up to the Writer's Guild arbitration committee.

Ferrari and Barrer broke into the business out of NYU with a 2010 Black List script they wrote called Die In A Gunfight. They also worked on a draft of a big screen adaptation of Sabrina The Teenage Witch for Sony. According to the site, it was that Sabrina script that impressed Marvel, and they went on to offer them the Ant-Man writing gig.

Universal Pictures has released a nearly 4-minute long clip from The Purge: Anarchy. It's an intense scene in which Frank Grillo's character encounters a mother and daughter in need of help. He is originally out for revenge, but he makes a very dangerous decision here that changes his whole course for the night.

The scene also features several of the other characters in the story played by Jack Conley, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, Zoe Soul, Justina Machado, and John Beasley. The movie is set to be released on July 18th.
