David Fincher's GONE GIRL - 4 New Posters

The Huffington Post

Here are four posters for David Fincher's feature film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel Gone Girl, which stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. I love the creative and different ways that Fincher markets his movies. The four posters include evidence bags that offer up a few clues to the film's case of a missing wife. This movie looks great, and we'll be getting a new trailer for it later today.

GONE GIRL – directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn – unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

The movie also stars Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon, and David Clennon. The movie is set to be released on October 3rd.

the-walking-dead-season-5-teaser-trailer

AMC has released the first teaser trailer for The Walking Dead season 5. The clip doesn't really give us much, but it does show us that Carol, Tyreese, and Judith are all still together and on the road trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. As you can see by railroad tracks, it looks like they're still on their way to Terminus. We can only hope they don't fall into the trap, or Rick and his gang take care of those cannibalistic  jackasses before they get there. The series is set to return in October, and I hope that Carol and Tyreese can get Rick's daughter to him safely.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Fun Fake Leaked Footage

One of our readers sent in this entertaining fan-made video footage from the "set" of Star Wars: Episode VII. The video was created by Frank Wunderlich, and he is having a little fun with Star Wars fans. He basically turned the Frankfurt (Germany) airport, named FraPort, into StarPort. There are a ton of Imperial ships and vehicles for you to enjoy in a real world setting. Here's the note that came along with the video:

Looks like the Story of Star Wars plays on Earth too in the next Episode. I took these pictures on my Flight back from the States to Germany at the Frankfurt Airport. Seems like the biggest german airport plays a key role as an imperial starport in the new episode -- there have just been imperial forces at the scene. Maybe the Rebelboys hide in Berlin... :-D

New ROBOTECH Series Being Kickstarted

Robotech_Battlecry_by_UdonCrew.jpg

Harmony Gold announced over the weekend at Anime Con that they have plans to bring back the classic 1980s animated series Robotech. Back in 2008, Robotech creator Carl Macek had a new idea for a Robotech animated series called Robotech Academy. After working on the project in secret for two years, Macek unfortunately passed away before finishing it.

Harmony Gold is now looking to bring the unfinished project to life, and they are going to do it will all of the notes, outlines, and scripts that Macek put together when he was working on it. They are funding the project through Kickstarter, and they are asking for $500,000 to produce a 22-minute pilot episode.

$500,000 sounds like a lot of money for a 22-minute pilot episode, but it will cover the complete design and production costs. Any funds that are raised beyond the original goal will go directly into developing more episodes. Those future episodes will cost less to produce because they will already have all of the setting art, mecha models, and character designs that can be reused to create other episodes.

Kotaku had a chance to interview the director of the series, Tommy Yune, and he had some information on the series.

"Robotech Academy takes place near the end of the second generation of Robotech—in the time and setting of the aborted TV series Robotech II: The Sentinels. However, as Yune was quick to explain, the series won't be following the Sentinels storyline nor the first-generation characters. “Carl's idea—because the story [of the Sentinels] had already been played out in novels and comic books—was to explore this 'universe' but with a new set of characters.

"Thus, Robotech Academy follows the children of the original generation of heroes—the best and brightest humanity has to offer—as they attend the Robotech Academy, located far from the front. But with the future of the Robotech Expeditionary Force all gathered in one place (both in personnel and technology), the Academy turns out to be an inviting target—especially once the Academy ends up trapped in deep space, far from where it's supposed to be."

Yune goes on to explain that we will see some familiar faces in the show as well:

“We'll have cross generational characters; but because it's in a different timeframe within the Robotech universe, some of them will look different—some will be significantly older and some of them will be younger.”

As for the villains in the story, they are described as "a mysterious splinter group of the second generation's Robotech Masters known as the 'Children of Zor.'" They are also planning on using brand new mecha designs that will "act as a sort of missing link to connect the franchise's three distinct transforming robot designs."

This series sounds like it could be freakin' awesome, and I hope that they can raise the money they need to make it happen. I grew up watching Robotech, and the fact that there's a chance we could see a new series is amazing! For more information click here, and you can go to their Kickstarter page here

There's just something about cheaply made Halloween costumes that is really creepy. Here's a set of Guardians of the Galaxy costumes that will be released for this coming Halloween. These things are just crazy nightmarish-looking costumes, and they have a serial killer vibe to them. Especially the Rocket Raccoon costume. You could build a horror movie around that thing!

10 Fun Facts About FORREST GUMP

0

Forrest-gump-original.jpg

It's been 20 years since Forrest Gump was released in theaters. The movie went on to win Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Director for Robert Zemeckis and Best Screenplay. It's one of the most universally loved movies ever made, but at the same time it has also been listed as one of the most overrated. I personally love the film, and I pop it in the dvd player to watch it at least once a year.

  • With every transition of Forrest's age, one thing remains the same- in the first scene of each transition he wears a blue plaid shirt.
  • When Forrest gets up to talk at the Vietnam rally in Washington, the microphone plug is pulled and you cannot hear him. According to Tom Hanks, he says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
  • When Forrest first learns to play ping-pong in the infirmary, he is told the trick is to "keep his eye on the ball" by another soldier. After that moment, whenever he is shown playing ping-pong, he never blinks.
  • The line, "My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump," was ad libbed by Tom Hanks while filming the scene and director Robert Zemeckis liked it so much that he decided to keep it in.
  • Every still picture of Forrest during this film shows Tom Hanks with his eyes closed.
  • Bill Murray, John Travolta and Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest Gump. Demi Moore and Nicole Kidman turned down the role of Jenny Curran. David Alan Grier, Ice Cube and Dave Chappelle turned down the role of Bubba.
  • The running scene was inspired by an actual event. In 1982, Louis Michael Figueroa, aged 16, ran from New Jersey to San Francisco for the American Cancer Society, unknowingly inspiring a line for Forrest Gump's famous run on the silver screen. "I just put one foot in front of the other," it goes. "When I get tired I sleep. When I get hungry I eat. When I have to go to the bathroom, I go."
  • Kurt Russell has said that he did the voice of Elvis Presley (uncredited) in the film.
  • Jenny's last name, Curran, is never said in the film. The only places you can find it are on the back of an envelope that Forrest mailed to Jenny while he was in Vietnam, on her mailbox when she is a child, and on the letters that are returned to him in the hospital.
  • Tom Hanks wasn't paid for the film. Instead he took percentage points which ultimately netted him in the region of $40 million.

A second great trailer has been released for David Fincher's Gone Girl, and knowing Fincher's work, this is going to be an incredibly well-made film that tells a very intense story. The movie stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as a seemingly perfect husband and wife who find themselves on opposite ends of an intense murder mystery. Nick (Affleck) is accused of killing his wife Amy (Pike) after she goes missing. Nick swears that he didn't do it, but as the story goes on the mystery and clues start to unravel, and the truth of what happened begins to reveal itself.

The movie also has a fantastic supporting cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Emily Ratajkowski, Casey Wilson, Boyd Holbrook, and Scoot McNairy. Here's the synopsis:

The film is set to open in theaters on October 3rd.

ANIMANIACS Creator Takes on Fairy Tales with THE 7D

Tom Ruegger is the creator of classic 1990s animated series such as Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Pinky and the Brain. For those of you who are fans of these shows, you'll be happy to learn that he has developed a new series for Disney Junior called The 7D that he hopes will capture the same fun spirit of the awesome shows he previously worked on.

As the title suggests, The 7D is about the adventures of the Seven Dwarfs, "30 years or so before their fateful run-in with Snow White. Living in the Enchanted Forest in the kingdom of Jollywood under the rule of Queen Delightful, the dwarfs are the area’s 'most trusted' heroes, righting the wrongs that arise and often thwarting the plans of evil-doers when the queen calls for help."

In a recent interview with the LA Times Ruegger said:

“I was very intrigued about taking these classic personalities that are so important to the company’s foundation and carefully nurturing them so that we didn’t do something too completely blasphemous.

“We realize that this is a fairly radical approach to them, but one thing that I realized about it is that it’s so different from the original that people might forgive us.

"There weren’t really many channels totally focused on kids when we made ‘Animaniacs’ and ‘Pinky and the Brain.’ As we went along on ‘The 7D,’ the folks at Disney Junior encouraged us to make something that Mom and Dad can get a laugh at."

That's what I was hoping for with this series. One thing I loved so much about Animaniacs is that it was something that both kids and adults enjoyed. When I watched it as a kid I loved it for its whacky craziness, as I got older and rewatched those episodes I realized that there were a lot of hilarious adult themes that flew over my head.

The report goes on to give a few more details on the series, one of which includes the addition of a newlywed couple and 7D villains Hildy and Grim Gloom. They will be a magical duo who want to take over the kingdom. Ruegger explained:

“I don’t know why I thought it was such a funny idea … but they’re newlyweds that are sort of hipsters in the way they dress. Jollywood is sort of a starter kingdom, so they need to conquer it and show off their stuff.”

Some of the voice cast includes Jay Leno as the Crystal Ball, Whoopi Goldberg as the Magic Mirror, and Kelly Osbourne as Hildy. This sounds like it could be a really great show and something I'll be able to enjoy with my kids.

Are you ready for some Bat-metal?! This extremely hardcore animated music video was created by YouTube user ArhyBES, and it features Batman being all kinds of insane. The video is wild, crazy, and contains some foul language. So it might not be considered safe for work. The song is by Deathlok, and it's called "Face Fisted." I love the cartoony, over-exaggerated facial expressions.

Kevin Smith Shares His STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Set Visit Experience

Last week, Kevin Smith posted a tearful photo of himself after visiting the set of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. You can tell the guy had one of the greatest experiences of his life. Well, during a Q&A at the Neuchatel International Film Festival in Switzerland, the filmmaker shared some really cool things about that experience.

There's a video of him talking about it below, and it starts at the 35:00 min. mark. I've included a few excerpts that you can read below if you can't watch the video. In this first part he talks about watching some filming:

"What I saw, I absolutely loved. It was tactile — it was real. It wasn’t a series of fucking green screens and blue screens in which later a bunch of digital characters would be added. IT was there, it was happening. I saw old friends who I haven’t seen since my childhood, who aren’t really friends, but I love them more than some of my fucking relatives. I saw uniforms, I saw artillery I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I saw them shooting an actual sequence in a set that was real. I walked across the set, there were explosions. And it looked like a shot right out of a Star Wars movie."

I don't know about you, but it sounds like we might be seeing some Stormtroopers in action! There were a lot of little hints buried in that comment. You just have to read between the lines.  He goes on to discuss what it was like seeing the Millennium Falcon:

"He turns the lights on and there is the Millennium Falcon from my childhood. Now the ship outside looks like a movie set, but the inside, fully replicated, fully built. The guy told me, they took two blueprints: Star Wars and Empire, because the cockpit in Empire was bigger than the cockpit in Star Wars. So they went somewhere between the two. So he takes me over and I’m just looking at it. You look at it from the outside and you can still see inside. I don’t presume we’re going aboard or anything, and then Morgan (JJ’s assistant) says 'You ready to go up' I said (excitedly) 'We can go on it?!'

"As I walked up that ramp I realized that the something that was missing from those other movies (the prequels) and its now in these movies. And its not the obvious like hey the Millennium Falcon or hey the characters that we know are returning. Its something else entirely — he’s building a tactile world, a world you can touch. And he's replicating with all the love of someone who has the world’s greatest collection of Star Wars figures. And when you walk on that set man, I don’t know how else to describe it except thusly: you use another pop culture reference to describe this pop culture phenomenon. Its like the field of dreams, the Kevin Costner movie. And if JJ builds it, we’re all going to come hard, because its amazing. It looks fantastic. So anyone out there wondering if he's going to pull it off, he's pulling it off. He showed me cut scenes, he showed me sequences, images, pictures. I cried and I hugged that guy. And I’m sure as I was crying and hugging on him that he was thinking 'time is money' because they're making a movie. But he got it. He was very flattered. And I was like 'Honestly dude, you’re doing it. You’re making my childhood again.  You’re doing our Star Wars. What I saw, blew me away.'"

How freakin' cool is that? Hearing this stuff just gets me even more stoked for this movie, and I didn't think it was possible to get anymore excited that this is actually happening! Check out the video below where he talks about even more Star Wars greatness. Thanks to /Film for the tip!

Calvin and Hobbes are two of the greatest characters ever created. I've enjoyed reading the comics for years. I still pull out the books every now and then and read through them for inspiration and encouragement. They do a great job of getting me pumped up to write! Anyway, here's an awesome piece of fan art by Charles Paul Wilson III that features these two awesome characters taking on a closet monster. He calls it "The Stuff of Legend," and it totally is!

Must Watch Trailer for Creature Short LESSONS LEARNED

For those of you who are fans of films such as The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, you'll love what this teaser trailer for a short film has to offer. The 15-minute short is called Lessons Learned, and it was written and directed by Toby Froud. For those of you not familiar with that name, he was the baby actor whose character was abducted by David Bowie in Labyrinth. Now he's all grown up and wants to make movies. His dad, Brian Froud, was the conceptual artist for both The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, so it looks like he's following in his dads footsteps. The project was Kickstarted last year, and he made it in conjunction with Heather Henson's puppet company Ibex Puppetry.

The fantasy film features a unique cast of puppet creatures, and the story follows "a young boy who receives an intriguing birthday gift from his grandfather.  It is a gift that will stay with him for the rest of his life."

Like many of you, I grew up watching these fantasy creature films, and it's awesome to see this filmmaking style being resurrected for this film production. I'm excited to see how this turns out! Thanks to io9 for the tip!

Your Favorite Game Characters Reimagined in Badass Art Series

That's a face only a mother could love, and if we're being honest, I'm not even sure about that. It's just one of many reimaginings that artist Sylvain Sarrailh has come up with, but at least in this case Bowser got more threatening. In Kirby's case, he went from adorable pink puff ball to Krang's second cousin. Sarrailh also took on characters like Sonic, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Angry Birds, and plenty more, which you can find in his Deviant Art gallery. If you like what you see, make sure to check out his other non-game related work. The Tomb Raider-ish Dora the Explorer is fantastic.

HERCULES TV Spot - "Do I Look Afraid"

0

Hercules New Picture.jpg

Whenever I hear a line like, "Do I look afraid?" I can't help but think there's a lot of insecurity inside the person that is saying it. Even if it is coming from the son of Zeus. A new TV spot has been released for Dwayne Johnson and Brett Ratner's Hercules. It's got a few new bits of footage but nothing that is going to get me excited to see this movie.

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend. Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

I do wish there was a Hercules movie that I could be excited about. I love the legend of Hercules! But, this just isn't doing it. It doesn't seem like it's doing it for anyone else either, which is kind of a shame because Johnson put a lot of time and effort into this movie.

We've got a collection of concept art that was created for Hugh Jackman's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which, as you all know, was a terrible movie. The following illustrations come from Evan Shipard, and they show us a movie that looked like it would have been awesome. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES in Action in Pizza Hut Spot

Here's a little cross promotion TV spot for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pizza Hut. In it you see the Turtles break into a Pizza Hut restaurant so that they can make their own pizza. I never took the Ninja Turtles as thieves, but Pizza Hut must be ok with people breaking in, making messes, and stealing their food.

I'm not a big fan of Pizza Hut, and I'd like to think that the Ninja Turtles have better taste than that. Thanks to THR for the head ups.

GOTHAM Creators Discuss Their Vision of Batman's Backstory

Gotham_pilot_Gotham_Cemetery_0498.jpg

Gotham is coming, and I'm so freakin' excited to see just exactly what is in store for us. The trailers have been awesome, the reviews for the pilot have been extremely positive, and now I just want to see it for myself!

In a recent interview with IGN, the show’s executive producers, Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, talked about the what they've come up with and go into detail about their version of Batman's history. Heller wrote the pilot episode and is also serving as showrunner, and Cannon directed it.

Here's what Cannon said about their take on the world and setting:

"It was daunting at first, because you're following three masterpieces. So I settled with the fact that -- what we talked about when we first pitched this was, '20 years before Batman.' A world that's starting to see a corrupt city rotting from the inside. It reminded us of New York in the late '70s and early '80s. That was our first meeting, and we kind of spring-boarded off of that. Luckily, that's uncharted territory. Hopefully in the atmospherics of Gotham we created a romantic, gothic, Dickensian kind of world."

Heller went on to talk about the big cast of characters in the series:

"Yeah, yeah. And there's still a lot of characters, as you know, to be introduced. I mean, a lot of the technical job is, again, it's getting back to why it's such a great world to live in. There are so many stories to tell, so many great characters. If you don't see the character that you love in that episode, you'll see it him in the next one -- because it's a tapestry. We have to tell so many different stories. The fun of it is in finding the storyline you like, but then there's a lot of other stuff going on."

When discussing Bruce Wayne's part of the story, Heller said:

"Well, it's really about telling the true story of how someone might become the Batman. The psychological truth of that is that he'd be a lot more damaged and a lot more traumatized and a lot more strange than some visions of how that character would be. It's a dark character, and it's a character under pressure. So to that degree, as much as I hate to say it, he's not a fun character, as you might imagine. It's not a tale of triumph. It's a tale of redemption."

They were then asked about their influences on creating the show, whether is came from comic books or other places, and this is what Cannon said:

"You know, I read everything, and you reach that point where you have to make it your own. DC were very supportive in that too, because they know when they've done things badly and when they've done things well. So far, what they've done well has just far outweighed, but you have to make these things your own. At some point, you have to plunge in and go, 'All right, hate me or... hate me. [Laughs] I've got to make this my own.'"

Heller added:

"My take on it is it's a bit like Greek mythology. There's a thousand stories. They all contradict themselves to a degree, but that's the beauty of it -- telling stories about characters that are larger than any one story. So that makes it much easier."

It seems like this show came together very nicely, and they've created something that is going to stick around for a long time. I really hope that they get to tell the entire story they set out to tell.
