Will Even More Heroes Appear in BATMAN V SUPERMAN?!

will-even-more-heroes-appear-in-batman-v-superman-social.jpg

There has been a lot of information leaking out recently regarding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Yesterday, along with our our first look at a hardened looking Superman, a few more villains were revealed as well. Now thanks to Badass Digest, we have some new details to share with you regarding more heroes being included in the story. If you don't want to know who these additional characters are, then stop reading now.

After the news about the villains broke from El Mayimbe from Latino-Review, Badass Digest had this bit of information to add. Apparently they have seen the same script that El Mayimbe has read, and he lists more characters that could end up in the movie.

"I trust El Mayimbe's network and the other information he has beyond this script, but something about the actual script itself - whether it be the errors or the cascading fan-service (Kord Industries, Jason Todd, a Shuster Street in Metropolis, Kyle Rayner, Carrie Kelley, Thanagar, mentioning Hob's Bay, the President is named Diane Nelson, who just happens to be the president of DC Entertainment) or the fact that tonally it is nothing like Man of Steel  (Themyscira has an embassy in Metropolis!) forces me to remain humbly skeptical. If this is the script then Warner Bros has learned some lessons from their last couple of movies, although I worry the sheer weight of fan service in this script could crush the film."

It would be really interesting to see if and how they actually incorporate these characters into the story. It would makes sense to see Jason Todd in the film, as an earlier report indicated that the Joker would be "mentioned when a particularly important event in Batman’s backstory is referenced." A lot of people took that to mean the death of Todd, who was Batman's second Robin and later became Red Hood.

It also seems like it would make sense to see Carrie Kelley in the story as Zack Snyder has talked about his love for Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns repeatedly. It's not impossible to think that it couldn't happen.

Kyle Rayner is definitely an interesting and off the wall choice though. I wouldn't have seen that coming at all. Rayner is the Green Lantern character of the 90's and early 2000s. Maybe they decided to cut out Hal Jordan after Ryan Reynolds' movie flopped. It would be interesting to see if they actually ended up including Rayner in Justice League.

What are your thoughts on these latest Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice rumors?

Stan Lee Rants about Long Movie Credits

Screen Shot 2014-07-03 at 6.04.04 PM.png

Stan Lee is not a big fan of movie credits. In his latest Stan's Rants episode, the legendary superhero creator complains about sitting through the extra 15-minutes of credits at the end of a movie. Lee apparently doesn't want the talented people who work on these movies to be recognized for their labors. He makes it very clear that he doesn't give a shit about any of you people who work on bringing these movies to life for our entertainment. Lee does realize that he doesn't have to sit through the credits of a movie, doesn't he?

10 Great Fireworks Scenes from Movies

10-great-fireworks-scenes-from-movies

Happy 4th of July everyone! It's not hard to imagine that my favorite part about this holiday is the fireworks! I love lighting them up and watching them go off. I even attempted to make my own at one point… I'll never do that again. As a tribute to this patriotic American holiday celebrating our independence, I've put together a top 10 list of great fireworks scenes from the movies.

The Sandlot

This is by far one of the most American 4th of July scenes ever put on film. You've got a group of kids playing baseball in the 1950s on the 4th of July.

An American Tail

Behold, the Giant Mouse of Minsk! This scene is both thrilling and incredibly scary. It's such a cool fireworks scene though.

To Catch a Thief

Alfred Hitchcock was a filmmaking genius, and this scene features fireworks going on in the background as Cary Grant and Grace Kelly are making sparks of their own.

V For Vendetta

I absolutely loved the scene where Natalie Portman and Stephen Rea watch as Parliament is destroyed by an explosives-filled train. It's not necessarily fireworks at first but they do come.

Return of the Jedi

A series of fireworks light up the sky as the Rebel Alliance celebrate their victory against Imperial Forces. That definitely calls for a celebration!

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

I just wish fireworks like this actually existed! That would so much freakin' fun. It looks like Bilbo Baggins had the best birthdays.

Revenge of the Pink Panther

In one of the most climatic scenes of the film, Clouseau is chased into a fireworks warehouse. During the sequence, the fireworks are set off and the explosions cause all kinds of awesome and fun chaos.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

It was such a fun moment when the Weasley twins came flying in, firing off magic fireworks to distract the evil hag Miss Umbridge. I just wanted her to die.

Manhattan

This classic scene from the opening of the film is absolutely beautiful. The fireworks work perfectly with the amazing musical score. This scene always made me happy.

Mary Poppins

To bust up the Chimney Sweeping gang from dancing and singing on the rooftops, the Admiral shoots a canon full of fireworks at them.

A lot of people, including myself, have been wondering when we will see the first trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies. Well, director Peter Jackson took to Facebook and addressed that question, saying:

Thank you all for your responses to my posting about Lorri and Damien’s book. Of course, many of you asked about the Hobbit Trailer. So, yes - there will be a Hobbit Trailer. But like the previous two years, it’s not going to be released until around Oct. The complex VFX work required to produce the battle shots we’re all wanting to see are simply not far enough along yet.

However...yesterday I finished work on a Teaser Trailer and that has just been delivered to Warner Bros. So no doubt this Teaser Trailer will be making it’s way into the world sometime soon…

Cheers,

Peter J

So it sounds like we will get a teaser "soon" and a full trailer this October! So fans have that to look forward to! Jackson also released the behind the scenes photo above.

Two Grown Men Have an All Out Battle With Toys in TOY WARS

Here's a hilariously action-packed short film for you to watch called Toy Wars. It features two grown men who use an armory of kids toys in an epic battle to the death.  The video was created by Andrew McMurry, and it will certainly entertain you from beginning to end. This is the kind of stuff I do almost on a daily basis, it's just not as deadly or intense.

Wonder Woman Gets a New Creative Team - Welcome Mr. and Mrs. Finch

While every creative team change irks some and brings joy to others, it is necessary to let someone else take the wheel from time to time. Wonder Woman has had writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang at the helm for three years now, and with their time coming to a close, DC has announced who will be taking over the book for the (hopefully) considerable future. Starting in November, that will be writer Meredith Finch and artist David Finch

Meredith hasn't really worked in mainstream superhero books before, with her only previous comic work being Tales From Oz by Zenescope. Most people are familiar with David's work, especially his more prominent covers for the big two over the last 5 to 6 years, and you can see his first completed image from the upcoming arc above. David Finch can draw, there is no doubt about that, and the image above is gorgeous, but I do hope that the book will contain a less sexualized version of the character overall, as we've been spoiled by Cliff Chiang's sexy yet powerful version of the character over the last 3 years. It's important that the character maintains that, but I have high hopes team Finch can deliver.

As for the story, while I attempted to hop on board Azzarello's mythology centered tale, I just couldn't get invested. Meredith's approach will be a bit more superhero centered, spotlighting her relationships and involvement with the Justice League, and showing her importance in the big three. While her current relationship with Superman will be part of that, it will not be the main crux of the book, as DC already has another book built around that very same thing. It's a tall order, as many talented writers have tried to establish why she is so important, and to solidify her role in the DC trinity, but hopefully this will be the one that sticks.

10 Tips for How to Fix the Horror Genre in Hollywood - Video

The Shining (1980).png

The movie horror genre is one of my favorites. I've enjoyed watching horror movie ever since I was kid. You can read through a list of horror movies that freaked me out when I was a young tike, right here. It's hard to scare me these days when it comes to horror movies. The last one that really got me was The Conjuring. In my opinion, director James Wan is one of the only directors out there right now that knows how to make a solid scary movie. There is a certain formula to these kinds of films that Hollywood tends to recycle, but it's ok to change things up and try something new. Cinema Sins released a video called How to Fix the Horror Movie Genre in 10 Steps, and they make some really good points. Check out the video below, and let us know if there are any suggestions you would add to the list.

Penn & Teller are one of my favorite acts to see in Las Vegas. I've seen them three times and I'm always entertained. One of my favorite parts of their show that I've seen is a speech and magic trick that is built around our American freedom. I thought this would make for the perfect 4th of July post on GeekTyrant. Enjoy!

Valuable Lessons Learned from Michael Bay's "Bayham"

Love him or hate him, director Michael Bay is here to stay. A lot of his movies may suck, but they make an ass-load of money, and he does have a certain style that you can't deny. Even James Cameron has said that he “studied [Bay's] films and reverse-engineered his shooting style.”

Bay has made some really cool films in his career, one of my favorites being The Rock, but his Transformers movies have been very disappointing.  Tony Zhou put together an interesting video essay called Michael Bay - What is Bayham? In it, he breaks down the director's craft.

"There are filmmakers we love and then there’s Michael Bay. Even if you dislike him (as I do), Bay has something valuable to teach us about visual perception. This is an exploration of “Bayhem” — his style of camera movement, composition and editing that creates something overblown, dynamic and distinct."

Do you think Bay has some strengths as a filmmaker?

BTS Photos for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY with Rocket, Groot and Star-Lord

We've got a few more cool behind the scenes photos for you to check out from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy. These feature pre-CGI versions of Groot, Rocket Raccoon and Chris Pratt sporting his Star-Lord helmet. What's cool about these is that they show you how Groot and Rocket were brought to life on the set of the film for the actors and crew to work with. It's always interesting to see how people work with animated characters that aren't really there. I was also informed that the stand in for Rocket Raccoon is Sean Gunn, who is director James Gunn's little brother.

Here's a couple of fantastic pieces of pop culture art from Craig Drake featuring Indiana Jones and Elektra. I really enjoy Darke's style of art, and you can see more of his work that we've posted right here. The art is obviously inspired by the popular 1980s artist Patrick Nagel.

"I see into your soul, Doctor!"

The BBC has released an excitingly explosive new promo trailer for Doctor Who season 8! It features Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor having some major technical difficulties with the TARDIS as a menacing Dalek is threatening him through a voice-over narration. These promo videos have been very dark and edgy. It's going to be interesting to see how it translates to the new series.

Paramount Pictures has released a new TV spot for Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebsman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I still haven't warmed up to the new look of the turtles, but you know what? The movie is probably still going to be really fun to watch. There's no way it can be as bad as Transformers: Age of Extinction… right? The Ninja Turtles will battle Shredder on August 8th!

This is the most random photoshopped version of Ben Affeck's Batman that I've seen. He has been reimagined in a Hello Kitty Batsuit. This might be kind of old, but I just came across it, so I thought I'd share it with you just in case any of you missed it too.

"You're a good looking girl, you should try to be more nice to people."

Marvel has released two new TV spots for Guardians of the Galaxy, and they both contain some awesome new footage that you're going to want to see! One of the spots includes the classic song "Cherry Bomb," which is why I used it in the title. I absolutely love the musical selections used for the marketing of this film! The highly anticipated Marvel film hits theaters on August 1st!

1980s Movie Child Actor Art

There's a lot of extremely talented young actors that came out of the 1980s. Some of these actors include Michael J. Fox, Ethan Hawk, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, River Phoenix and more. Artist Sam Gilbey created cool portrait as a tribute to many of these actors. I loved the 80s, I wasn't a big fan of the fashion or hair, but the 80s pumped out some pretty incredible movies, and I can't imagine a world without them.

Two Actors Cast in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

two-actors-cast-in-star-wars-episode-vii

LucasFilm has announced that two new actors have joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. The two actors attended an open casting call for the roles. According to the report, the casting calls spanned 11 cities across the US and UK and over 37,000 hopefuls attended. On top of that, over 30,000 people submitted applications online.

Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen landed the roles. According to the report, Clarke is an "American actress studying in Glasgow, UK, who has both stage and screen acting experience and is soon to be seen in her first feature, The Moon and the Sun (to be released in 2015)." As for Andersen, he is a British skilled practitioner of parkour, and recently demonstrated that badass skill in a Spider-Man ad for Sony.

Producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement:

"The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film."

I really do like that Abrams and Lucasfilm cast a bunch of relatively unknown actors in the film. I think it will make what they are doing with the story and characters that much more meaningful. The two new actors will join the previously cast Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, and Max von Sydow.

They also made a statement regarding Ford's injury, saying that he's "doing well and is looking forward to returning to the set soon." Shooting remains on track and will wrap up in the fall with the film scheduled for release on December 18th, 2015.
