The cast for Marvel's Daredevil series seems to be coming together nicely, and today we've learned that one of the stars of The Mighty Ducks, Elden Henson, has been cast in the show. He will be joining Charlie Cox, Rosario Dawson, and Vincent D'Onofrio, who is playing the crime boss Kingpin.

According to to The Wrap, Henson is expected to play the best friend of Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil (Cox), Foggy Nelson. Here's some information on the character thanks to Marvel:

"Franklin P. Nelson, nicknamed 'Foggy,' is the son of Rosalind 'Razor' Sharpe, a ruthless attorney who deserted her husband not long after their son was born. Nelson rarely saw his mother during his youth, instead being raised by his father and stepmother. Nevertheless, his mother's career motivated him to study pre-Law at State University, where he quickly befriended his roommate, Matt Murdock, whom he eventually followed to Columbia University and Harvard Law School. Murdock, despite his blindness, occasionally used his physical skills to protect Nelson from campus bullies. Nelson did not realize that Murdock possessed enhanced senses which he would eventually use as the costumed hero Daredevil. Nelson was temporarily placed into the witness protection program after faking his death."

Henson played Bash Brother Fulton Reed in The Mighty Ducks franchise, and went on to co-star in films such as She's All That, Cast Away, The Butterfly Effect, The Mighty, and O and was last seen in the movie Jobs. He will also be seen in the upcoming movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. Daredevil will start shooting soon in New York.

Bart is Kaneda in Fan Made AKIRA and SIMPSONS Couch Gag

I hope the producers of The Simpsons see this because this Akira style couch gag needs to happen now! Bart rides into the living room as Kaneda riding the character's iconic motorcycle. It would be amazing to watch Bart ride around through a Neo-Tokyo-inspired Springfield.

The short animation was inspired by the Bartkira project, where artists reimagine pages from the Akira manga with characters from The Simpsons. This one was created by animator Stephen Loveluck.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Introduce PROJECT GREENLIGHT Season 4

ben-afflect-and-matt-damon-introduce-project-greenlight-season-4

Project Greenlight is coming back to HBO for a fourth season, and the cable network has released the first promo. It features Ben Affleck and Matt Damon introducing the new season and what they are looking to do with it. It's also fun to see them joke around about not having any better ideas over the past decade.

Project Greenlight was stared back in 2001, and it was developed as a way to help get first-time filmmakers the budget and promotion needed to make a feature film. The show was on HBO for two seasons where it spawned films such as Stolen Summer and The Battle of Shaker Heights. The show was then moved to Bravo in 2005, and thats where the movie Feast was developed.

I was a big supporter of the show while it was still on TV, and I think it's great that Project Greenlight is back to help more first-time filmmakers. They’re asking filmmakers for a three-minute video submission, created in nearly any format imaginable. If you want to enter all you have to do is click here.

Trailer for the Zombie Comedy LIFE AFTER BETH with Aubrey Plaza

trailer-fo-the-zombie-comedy-life-after-beth-with-aubrey-plaza

This is the first trailer trailer for the zombie rom com Life After Beth, which stars Aubrey Plaza and Dane DeHaan. I had a chance to see the movie at Sundance earlier this year, and it's very entertaining and definitely worth watching.

The story follows Zack (DeHaan), whose girlfriend Beth dies and comes back to life. Zack uses the opportunity as a second chance to show her how much he loves and wants her. She seems fine at first, but slowly starts to rot and turn into a zombie. While this is all happening, Zack is still trying to work things out and keep it together.

It's a really fun and clever concept that was executed perfectly. The movie also stars Anna Kendrick, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, and Cheryl Hines.  Here's a more detailed synopsis:

Zach is devastated by the unexpected death of his girlfriend, Beth. When she miraculously comes back to life, Zach takes full advantage of the opportunity to experience all the things he regretted not doing when she was alive. However, the newly returned Beth isn’t quite the way he remembered her, and before long, Zach’s world takes a turn for the worse.

Imitating what Dr. Frankenstein did with his monster, writer/director Jeff Baena assembles disparate parts of his film into a new whole and jolts fresh life into it. By fusing elements of a young love story and a zombie movie, he concocts a wickedly funny and shockingly poignant film. With its killer soundtrack and all-star cast, including Aubrey Plaza, whose distinctive delivery has never been used to greater effect, and Dane DeHaan, who perfectly embodies the suffering of a young man with a broken heart and a rotting girlfriend, Life After Beth will leave you dying to see it again.

Life After Beth premieres on DirecTV July 17th and will then get a limited theatrical release starting August 15th. You can read my review here.

Comical GREMLINS Reunion Photo

Empire Magazine has released a sneak peek photo from their Gremlins reunion photo shoot. As you can see, they must have had a blast doing this. It's awesome to see those insane evil Gremlins causing chaos. This was such a fun movie for me to watch when I was growing up regardless of the fact that it was actually kind of terrifying. This was a truly dark film for a kid to watch, but it was so awesome! This is a movie I need to revisit soon with my own kids. They still have yet to see it.

Stephen King's BIG DRIVER Will be a Lifetime Movie

I never thought that I'd see the Lifetime network develop a Stephen King movie, but they are. It's called Big Driver, and it will star Maria Bello (A History of Violence). The story seems to fit in with some of the other TV movies that the network has aired over the years... thrillers about women who want revenge.

Big Driver was published in 2010 as part of King’s short story collection Full Dark, No Stars. It revolves around a successful mystery novelist, who will be played by Bello, devastated after a brutal attack and hell bent on revenge.

I'm a huge fan of King, and this is a solid story, so it looks like I'm going to have to tune into Lifetime, which I never do, to watch the movie.

Here's a more detailed description of the story:

Tess is a successful cozy mystery writer who has a speaking engagement at a library inChicopee, Massachusetts. After the event, the librarian who had invited her, Ramona Norville, tells Tess to avoid Interstate 84. She gives Tess the directions to Stagg Road, a presumably safer shortcut to Tess' home in Connecticut. However, on the shortcut, Tess'Ford Expedition rolls over nail-studded pieces of wood which lie across the road, giving her a flat tire. The incident happens by an abandoned Esso gas station.

Shortly afterwards, a big man in a pickup offers to assist Tess. At first, the trucker seems to be eager to help, but he soon darkens. Tess realizes that the driver had set out the road hazard. He knocks Tess out and proceeds to brutally rape and beat her, before finally choking her to unconsciousness. She later wakes up and feigns death as he stashes her body in a culvert and drives away. After the man has left, Tess escapes, but sees several other murdered women, all victims of the same man, lying dead in the pipe. Tess escapes to try and find some help, but as she walks, she worries that the attack will create a scandal. She believes that people would write that she was "asking for it", and her name as an author would be dragged through the mud. She decides that she cannot mentally endure another trauma, and instead goes home without telling anyone.

Later, she uses the detective skills she acquired while writing her novels to find her rapist, who turns out to be "Little Driver".

Captain America and Black Widow Assemble for This Fantastic Cosplay

As a self-pronounced Captain America fan, anytime good cosplay comes my way I pounce, like a panther. Actually, if I were being truthful, more like an energized Garfield, only stopping along the way if food is involved. Wow, this derailed rather quickly.

Self esteem issues aside, this wonderful cosplay features not only Cap (modeled by Dan Ridge) but everyone's favorite superspy Black Widow (modeled by Alyson Pearson). As far as the costumes themselves, these are two of the most accurate I've seen, and I can't help but be jealous that I don't have that shield. The photos were taken by the marvelous team at WeNeals Photography and Retouching, and you can view several photos from the shoot below. They are all worth checking out, but my favorite is the just for fun shot behind the shield (the very last one in the post). If you like what you see make sure to check out their pages for more of their work. You can find Dan's Facebook page here and Alyson's Deviant Art page here.

Trailer for Netflix's Original Anime Series KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA

trailer-for-netflixs-original-anime-series-knights-of-sidonia

Netflix has released the first trailer for their awesome looking new original series Knights of Sidonia. The dystopian anime is based on the popular manga series of the same name, and the story follows Nagate, "a low-born youth in a society of genetically engineered refugees who escaped the destruction of Earth one thousand years earlier and now occupy the massive ship Sidonia. When Nagate's talent as a pilot is revealed he becomes one of Sidonia's elite defenders against the Guana, shapeshifting aliens bent on eliminating humans from existence."

The epic looking series has 12 episodes, and they will all be released when the series premieres July 4th. I've been watching a lot of anime recently. I've found that these shows are better than a lot of what we are seeing on TV in the states. I'll definitely be logging in to Netflix to watch this show!

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Fan Poster and More Possible Plot Details

star-wars-episode-vii-fan-poster-and-more-possible-plot-details

Let's star this out with this really cool piece of fan-made poster art for Star Wars: Episode VII. It was created by @HUSDESIGN, and I love the tone and vibe that it radiates.

As for the plot of the film, a few more SPOILER-filled rumors have surfaced. If you don't want to know anything about the movie then don't read ahead. If you've already read all of the other rumors, go ahead and keep reading.

According to AICN, Han Solo is basically the main character of Episode VII, and he will be "leading a galaxy-wide search party for Luke Skywalker."

It was previously rumored that Skywalker has been out and about trying to stop the Sith from being resurrected. I guess he was gone long enough and his friends need him back for something. Or maybe they are going out to find him to help him complete his mission.

There's also some additional information on the roles that John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are playing. The following info comes from MakingStarWars, who says that Boyega’s character is an imperial trooper or pilot named Thomas. Apparently he is shot down over Tatooine and injured from the crash. There he meets a character named Rachel played by Ridley, and starts to realize that he’s on the wrong side of things and begins Jedi training. Here's how the site describes it:

"Rachel rescues him from the wreckage and the elements of the sandy planet. Over the course of their 'unlikely pairing,'  Thomas sees the reality of the universe and he defects from the side of the villains and decides to help Rachel for saving his life. However, things are not easy for the character because unlike most of the rebels we’ve met in the series, none were traitors, they were always on the side of right from the beginning. However, it appears Rachel and Thomas have an innocent flirtation in their first film with hints at romance in the future episode."

There's so many rumors going around it's hard to tell what's real and what isn't. I personally believe there's a little bit of truth in everything leaking out at this point.

Guillermo del Toro Announces PACIFIC RIM 2 and Animated Series

Guillermo del Toro has released a video in which he announces Pacific Rim 2 is officially moving forward, and that he is also developing an animated series for the franchise! The sequel was bound to happen. Since the first movie was released there was talk of a sequel, and that talk never stopped. Now the sequel is officially moving forward, and he's working on it with screenwriter Zak Penn. I also love that he's developing an animated series! That's could be really awesome. According to THR it will be released on April 7, 2017. In a recent interview with BuzzFeed the director had to say about the sequel:

"The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast."

This is all great news for Pac Rim fans! That first movie was absurdly fun, and I can't wait to see what Del Toro has in store for the sequel. You can watch his video announcement below.

New Rainy Photo from CONSTANTINE Series

A new photo has been released promoting NBC's upcoming series Constantine. It features a familiar gloomy image of the title character, who is played by Matt Ryan, standing in the rain. It came along with the caption, "It's not too late for Constantine to save his soul." The show looks ridiculously good, and Ryan seems like the perfect guy for this role. The series is set to premiere on October 24th!

Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all. The cast also includes Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford. Writer Daniel Cerone (“The Mentalist,” “Dexter”) serves as executive producer with David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “The Dark Knight Rises”). “Constantine” is produced from Bonanza Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Crazy Trailer for INTO THE STORM - Tornados Everywhere!

into-the-storm .jpg

The latest trailer for the upcoming movie Into the Storm shows the terrifying and devastating effects of tornados. I'm glad I don't live in an area that is subject to these monstrous tornados. The movie looks incredibly intense, and I have to see it. We haven't seen a decent tornado movie since Twister, and l don't care what anyone says, I loved Twister. And No! Sharknado doesn't count. This looks like it will be an entertaining popcorn flick.

The movie was directed by Steven Quale (Avatar - second unit), and it stars Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead). The story focuses on a small town that is hit by one of the most chaotic storms ever. Here's a more detailed synopsis:

In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of the most furious twisters they’ve ever seen. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most seek shelter; others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs and courageous townspeople, the movie throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.

Into the Storm also stars Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Arlen Escarpeta, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress, Jeremy Sumpter, Kyle Davis and Jon Reep. It opens in theaters on August 8th.

First Look at BIG HERO 6 Baymax Toys from Bandai

Disney Consumer Products is already showing off their toys for their highly anticipated animated film Big Hero 6.  The movie is based on a comic book from Marvel. The toys will come from Bandai, and this is our first look at the action figure for the character Baymax. I've also included a video so you can hear the sounds and see the flashing lights. Toys aren't as cool as they used to be, but this looks like something a lot of kids will have fun playing with.

We'll be seeing a lot more Big Hero 6 merchandise as the release date of November 7th, 2014 approaches. If you're going to San Diego Comic-Con this year, you can expect to see a booth dedicated to the film. Thanks to Stitch Kingdom.

Jon Favreau on Edgar Wright Leaving ANT-MAN

favreau-downey-jr-jon-favreau-wants-robert-downey-jr-back-for-iron-man-4.jpeg

Just in case you were wondering what Iron Man director Jon Favreau thinks about Edgar Wright and Marvel going their separate way on Ant-Man, here's what he had to say in an interview with Shortlist:

"Edgar’s a dear friend of mine – I was so looking forward to his version of Ant-Man. All Edgar’s films have been studio films, it’s not like he’s never made one before. I think he’s been used to a situation where he can have tremendous creative say around his story and casting, and Marvel has built an entire franchise around their style of telling stories. I know both parties well, and I respect his decision to see that he wasn’t going to be fulfilled in the process. That’s all I can really say."

Favreau is the man who played a very big role in launching the Marvel cinematic universe with Iron Man. Without what he created, who knows what we could have ended up with? I just think his opinion matters when it comes to what happens with this Marvel movie. When asked if Iron Man was a gamble for him and the studio he said:

"The model was the Fantastic Four films with Fox. You were expected to spend a certain amount of money that would make you a certain amount of money back as long as the effects are good. They wanted to figure out a way to get the movie to audiences for a price. I think by casting Iron Man the way we did, it classed the brand up. It allowed us to bring a certain humorous tone that had been lost from, say, the Bond franchise. With Daniel Craig, those movies gained a harder edge, meaning there was definitely room for a new humorous cad adventurer. That archetype had not been filled in a long time. Through Iron Man, Marvel found its tone and voice, but nothing was expected of it. And then the success came, and then there was pressure to continue that brand, and that’s where it becomes more challenging."

I think we're all happy Marvel found that success. The filmmaker has since moved on to make some other great movies like Chef, and he is currently prepping to shoot The Jungle Book for Disney. When asked if he would be taking inspiration from the original Rudyard Kipling story, or the sixties Disney film, this was his reply:

"Kipling is the basis, because he nailed the mythology – getting back to the ancient myths that we see everywhere – like in Star Wars. But the ’67 animated film has wonderful tone and characters that we can hopefully recombine with Kipling, so it has a Disney feel to it. It’s a great way to use technology to tell the story in a way that hasn’t been done before. We can use computer graphics to tell a story that will go around the world. You can give a personal flavor to something that’s big, as long as you don’t jeopardize people’s ability to make money from it."

If you haven't seen Chef yet, you really need to. The Jungle Book is set to be released on October 9th, 2015. I wonder if Favreau will ever come back to Marvel and direct another movie for them.

DRACULA UNTOLD Trailer - This Movie Looks Awesome

The first trailer for Luke Evans' Dracula Untold has been unleashed, and it looks really freakin' good. I am actually surprised by how good this movie looks. I just wasn't expecting this. It looks like it tells a solid story, and the visuals are stunning. I'm excited for this!

The film is directed by Gary Shore, and it gives us an alternate origin story of Vlad the Impaler and the road he takes to transforming into the legendary vampire Dracula. It looks like it was also inspired by the actual historical events that revolve around Vlad.

Dracula: Untold also stars Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger). It will be released on October 17th.

Concept Art for Ron Howard's THE DARK TOWER

Hopefully, one day, Ron Howard's feature film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower epic will happen. The project isn't completely dead yet, but it seems like it's just kind of sitting around not going anywhere at the moment. While we wait for some good news though, concept artist Gregory Hill released some great illustrations that he did for the movie. The designs are for various locations in the story such as Devar Toi, Tull, The Dogan, The Manni Village, A Harrier Near The Speaking Ring, The Thinny, Tull, and The Speaking Ring. There are also two videos that give us a fly through look at the town of Tull.

Frank Darabont in Talks to Direct THE HUNTSMAN

2410_D016_00153.jpg

I love the films of Frank Darabont. The guy knows how to tell an amazing story. I'm just not sure about this possible next project of his. THR is reporting the the director is currently in talks with Universal Pictures to direct a movie called The Huntsman, which is described as a spin-off movie of Snow White and The Huntsman. Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are expected to reprise their roles in the film. Kristin Stewart however will not be coming back, and I can't see anyone complaining about that.

The only thing I liked about the first movie was Theron's performance. She was awesome, but the film itself as a whole was terribly disappointing. I was so unimpressed that I have no interest in seeing another film set in that world. Even with Darabont directing, the idea of it still doesn't do anything for me. It seems like one of those big budget studio movies that the filmmaker is just doing for the money. I could be wrong! But this is one of those kinds of cookie cutter studio films that I never thought I'd see Darabont do.

In case you forgot, Darabont is the man who brought us The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and most recently, 2007's The Mist. Since then he has worked on The Walking Dead.

It would be a pleasant surprise if he was able to turn this Hunstman franchise into something incredible. I just think there's a better project out there for him to develop.

DOCTOR WHO Will Not Have a Panel at Comic-Con 2014

pc1.jpg

Worst Comic-Con news ever. BBC America has announced that there will NOT be a Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. I'm incredibly disappointed by this news. I know a lot of Doctor Who fans that go to Comic-Con just to see the Doctor Who panel. It looks like the line for Hall H is going to be a lot shorter the Sunday that it would have taken place.

In case you're wondering why they pulled out, it's because of the Doctor Who world tour that will be taking place. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will appear together for the first time in the U.S. when they arrive in New York City on August 14th. Why can't they show up a month earlier at Comic-Con?! That's where all their fans will be gathering! it doesn't make any sense to me that they would skip out on the biggest geek event of the year. It's not the first time this has happened though. They dropped out of the con back in 2010.

Doctor Who will still have a presence at the BBC America booth, and there will be activities around the convention, as well as an offsite fan meet up for the 50th Anniversary. It's still a major bummer that there will be no panel for the fans to attend. I was really looking forward to it this year with the new Doctor and all.

You've got to watch this insanely impressive fan-made trailer for a Warhammer 40,000 movie. It's called The Lord Inquisitor, and it focuses on the space marines known as Grey Knights. The trailer was created and directed by Erasmus Brosdau with the use of CG animation, and what he came up with is absolutely amazing. If this was a real movie, I'd be very excited about watching it. Even if you're not familiar with Warhammer you're still sure to enjoy this trailer.
