Warner Bros. Adapting MONSTRUMOLOGIST for the Big Screen

Warner Bros. has picked up the screen rights to a supernatural horror book series by Rick Yancey called The Monstrumologist. That book is just one of a four-part series, and the other books include The Curse of the Wendigo, The Isle of Blood, and The Final Descent.

The story centers on "Dr. Pellinore Warthrop and his assistant Will Henry. Will is an orphan under the care of Dr. Warthrop, who studies dangerous creatures and monsters. The story is set in 1888, when a nightmarish specimen is carted to the monstrumologist’s home — a vicious man-eating creature without a head."

I've never read any of these books, but that sounds like a really awesome story that has potential to be an awesome film. The studio has hired screenwriter Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) to write the script.

Ronan the Accuser Featured in New Photo from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

A new photo of Ronan the Accuser from Guardians of the Galaxy has surfaced online, and he's looking like a villain with purpose. The character is being played by Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), and it seems like he's perfect for the part. The guy is a crazy talented actor, and I hope that his character will live to see another day in a future Marvel movie. I'm interested in seeing more of this character and how closely his story in the movie will follow the comic storyline. We'll know everything we need to know when the movie is released on August 1st.

Artist Andy Fairhurst created three pieces of amazing fan art for classic films such as Back to the Future, E.T., and Labyrinth. He calls the art series “Nerd’s Eye View,” and as you can see, each image gives us 'bird's-eye view' of a certain scene from each film. This is a great concept and I hope you like them!

International Trailer for DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Universal Pictures has released an international trailer for Dumb and Dumber To. It starts out exactly like the first trailer that was released, but halfway through you'll find that they've included some more ridiculous new footage. I want to be excited for this new movie, but I'm not quite there yet. I'll still see it though because I loved the first one! There's a chance it will be funnier than what I'm expecting. I just hope they don't keep recycling jokes from the first one. The movie is set to be released in theaters on November 14th.

New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY TV Spot and Preview Video

Entertainment Tonight has released an awkward new preview for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It gives a little introduction to the main characters in the movie, and what's funny about it is how they try to explain the characters to people who aren't familiar with them. They do this by comparing them to Marvel characters that have already been introduced to the cinematic universe. I think it is hilarious that they compare Rocket Raccoon to Iron Man. To make it worth your while, though, they also throw in some new footage. I've also included an extended TV spot that is much more enjoyable.

Batman Vs Joker in Tribute Fan Art from Jeff Victor

As a tribute to the 25th anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman, artist Jeff Victor created this fun and whacky illustration of Batman and Joker. This is what the artist had to say about it:

"Wow, I simply can't believe it's been 25 years since Tim Burton's Batman flick came out. I remember it had a massive impact on me at the time, to say the least. It got me heavily interested in superhero toys and comic books, which I still love to this day. While I adored the Superman films, this one hit at just the right time in my adolescent development, as I started to crave something a little more mature than Adam West and Burt Ward's antics. I couldn't let the day go by without acknowledging this milestone somehow."

Turturro Wants to Make BIG LEBOWSKI Spin-Off

john-turturro-planning-big-lebowski-spin-off-film-for-jesus

How can anyone who has seen the Coen Brother's The Big Lebowski forget John Turturro's character Jesus? He is The Dude's arch nemesis on the bowling alley, and he was quite the funny character. The guy is nuts, and John Goodman's high strung Walter Sobchak character described him perfectly in the film when he said:

"He's a sex offender with a record. He did six months in Chino for exposing himself to an 8-year-old. When he moved to Hollywood he had to go door-to-door to tell everyone he was a pederast."

Turns out that Turturro wants to make a spin-off film based around this vulgarly confident, purple tracksuit wearing character! Last year, Ethan Coen said that Turturro pitched him the idea, but it wasn't something they were planning on making. Turturro has become a pretty decent filmmaker himself over the years, so if he wanted to direct it himself, I'm sure he could pull it off.

Turturro recently talked about the project at the Taormina Film Festival, and he says that he hopes to shoot it as early as next year. He then added, "If I can get the permission I need, I'd really like to return to that role."

It would definitely make for a very interesting movie. I would love to see it happen. I included a video interview below of the actor with Q with Jian Ghomeshi discussing his crazy character. He talks about being able to go "really far out" and said he would have to calibrate that character accordingly if the character was going to have more screen time.

There's no information on what the plot of his film would be, but one thing we know for sure is, "Nobody f**ks with the Jesus."

New PREDATOR Reboot Is Actually a Sequel

We recently learned that Shane Black is set to write and produce a new Predator movie for 20th Century Fox. It was initially reported that this would be a franchise reboot, but that isn't what's actually happening.

According to Collider, Black and his co-writer Fred Dekker will actually be developing and "envisioning" an "inventive sequel." The site got that information from the director himself. He went on to explain to them:

“As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway, why start over, when you’ve got all this rich mythology yet to mine?”

Black said that he doesn’t care for reboots in general, and that they can “really get behind inventive sequels" and that they like "the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button."

The filmmaker is having "a blast" writing the screenplay for the movie with Dekker. In case you didn't know, the two worked together on classic '80s film Monster Squad, which makes this team up and Predator project even more awesome.

I'm relieved to hear that this will be a sequel and not a reboot. I was fine either way with Black on board the project, but this bit of news makes me even happier about it. It's going to be great to see what they come up with!

Here's an amusing pop art series created by artist Greg Guillemin that he calls  "The Secret Life of Heroes." They feature characters such as Catwoman, Superman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Batman, Harley Quinn, Wolverine, and a few other well-know pop culture characters. They are portrayed in the middle of doing all kinds of things that we normally don't see them do. Enjoy!

Akiva Goldsman Set to Direct Horror Film STEPHANIE

Screenwriter and director Akiva Goldsman is about to take on a new film project called Stephanie. This will be a horror movie that tells the story of a little girl with "unworldly abilities who was abandoned before a man and a woman show up claiming to be her parents, thereby interrupting her mysterious world."

The last film that Goldsman directed was Winter's Tale, which is a film I haven't seen. It didn't really look that good to me to be honest. But Goldsman is a talented, Academy Award winning screenwriter who has written some pretty incredible scripts in his career. Some of those include A Beautiful Mind; Cinderella Man; I, Robot; The Da Vinci Code; and for some reason he also wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Can't win 'em all, I guess.

Goldsman isn't new to the world of horror as he was the executive producer on Paranormal Activity 2, 3 and 4. Stephanie sounds like it has potential. Hopefully he is able to give horror fans something scary.

X-Men Movie Characters' Looks Compared to Cartoon Series

Just because… here's a set of visuals that compares the looks of the movie X-Men characters with the character designs from the classic 1990s animated series. These were put together by X-Men In Your Face, and were found on Geexgirls. It's pretty interesting to look at the same characters from these two properties side by side.

Two more TV spots have surfaced for Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction, and they offer up a bit of new footage for your viewing enjoyment. There will be early screenings of the movie starting tonight, and I'm ready to watch it! As long as it manages to bring the action packed entertainment, I'll be happy. If there's finally a great story to be told, that will be a plus.

Check out this amazing series of fan-made poster art created for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Each one incorporates a logo for each of the Justice League members on various landscapes. Those characters include Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Aquaman. The art was created by DeviantArt user jixustudios, who had this to say:

"The last time I was on a plane, I took a ton of photos, hoping I could stitch them together for some nice semi-panoramic aerial shots. And for the most part, they turned out pretty well, but then I envisioned passing iconic images embedded in the landscapes I was passing and thus, started working on this image series. I have a few more done and that I’m working on, but I wanted to wait till I had at least the trinity done before posting any of the series, so here’s the main Justice League set."

Sam Raimi Looking to Direct Afghanistan War Film THE OUTPOST

Sam Raimi is looking to make a film that is very different than anything he's ever done before. The director is mostly known for his horror and superhero movies like Evil Dead and Spider-Man. He's now looking to take on a Afghanistan set war drama called The Outpost

The movie will be based on Jake Tapper's bestselling book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor. Oscar nominated screenwriters Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) have teamed up with the filmmaker to adapt the novel into a screenplay.

The story centers on "the defense of a remote U.S. camp in Eastern Afghanistan by 53 American soldiers as it was overrun by up to four hundred Taliban fighters. The intense and deadly day-long clash resulted in multiple citations including Medals of Honor to two recipients, the first time America’s highest military award has been given to two living soldiers for the same battle since 1968."

Raimi, who last directed Oz The Great and Powerful, had this to say in a statement:

The Outpost is an epic story of bravery, courage, and sacrifice of our men in uniform, and is absolutely a picture meant for the big screen. I’m honored to be a part of it.”

As a huge fan and supporter of Raimi's work, I couldn't be more excited that he is taking on this project. It's really great that he's stepping outside of the stuff he is accustomed to doing and trying something new and different to tell a story he's passionate about. There's no doubt in my mind that if he directs this, he'll give us an incredible movie.

MALL Trailer - Directorial Debut of Linkin Park's Joe Hahn

Joseph Hahn is mostly known for his creative work as the beat master for the band Linkin Park. He's also directed several of the band's music videos. The guy is crazy talented and I know he's been trying to direct a feature film for years. I'm happy to report that it's finally happened for him and he just made a distribution deal for it.

The movie is called Mall, and it's based on Eric Bogosian's 2001 novel of the same name. The story revolves around "five disaffected suburbanites whose lives come together at a shopping mall following a seemingly random shooting."  This looks like a solid movie. We actually have a trailer for it for you to check out below, and an international poster that I found above. Apparently, the film was already released in France.

Paragon Pictures picked up North American rights to the feature which stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Gina Gershon, Cameron Monaghan, Peter Stormare, and James Frecheville.

Malcom’s done with his life. Only the noise of Crystal Meth gives him a reason to keep going – everything else it has long regardless. Equipped with a bag full of weapons and self-made bombs, he makes his way to the nearby mall to really stir things up. On his personal war campaign, he not only changes his life radically, but also the fate of other people who are in the wrong place at the same time: a teenager whose favorite pastime is smoking pot in his dreary existence, a housewife, where their best days have been left behind, a greedy businessman whose only desire is to increase his wealth and a depressed pervert.

I went to high school with Hahn. We were in the same art class together and we did pole vaulting on the track-and-field team. He's a great guy and an amazing multi-talented artist, and it's so cool to see him find success in everything he's done. I couldn't be happier for him.

Hahn most recently directed the music video for “New Divide,” the Linkin Park track that appears in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and the band’s latest music video for “Until It’s Gone” from their current album The Hunting Party.

I'm excited to see how his first feature film turns out!

It's a trilogy folks! For those seeing these for the first time, I'm a huge fan of these calligraphy art prints by Mycks Art Studio. This series has featured a who's who of Mass Effect characters — you can catch the others in the set here and here. I love the implementation of ink blots and vibrant splashes of color into their more recent pieces, but the originals are no slouch either. The newest entries include Zaeed (who is by far my favorite of this set), Miranda, Edi, Saren, Matriarch Benezia , Anderson, Samara, Jacob, and Grunt. If you're interested you can grab yourselves a print or two at their Etsy store, where each one will run you around $12.00. Is there another franchise you would like to see them cover? Assassin's Creed, or maybe Mario? Let us know in the comments.

Jason Sudeikis in Talks to Join Heist Comedy with Galifianakis, WIlson, and Wiig

$

Jason Sudeikis is in talks to join Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, and Kristen Wiig in a heist comedy to be directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). Sudeikis has worked with all three of the other stars before, appearing with Wilson in Hall Pass and Galifianakis in The Campaign. He worked with Wiig for several years on SNL and was visibly emotional when she bid her farewell to the show. The project, which used to be called Loomis Fargo, is based on an original screenplay by Emily Spivey, but a new script was written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. There is no title at the moment.

The script is based on the true story of a disgruntled armored car driver who stole nearly $20 million from his company’s vault. When his comrades double-cross him, he is left alone and on the run, and his thoughts turn toward revenge.

There is no word on what part Sudeikis would play, but the story sounds like it will make for a good movie. The film’s producers include Lorne Michaels and Danny McBride, so there is a ton of great comedy talent attached. I would love to see Hess apply his quirky, offbeat style to a story with a little more structure than his previous films, and a heist film might be perfect for that. All things considered, I am pretty excited to see what the talented group of people can bring us.

Joe Carnahan Will Direct FIVE AGAINST A BULLET for Sony Pictures

joe-carnahan-will-direct-five-against-a-bullet-for-sony-pictures-social.jpg

A-Team director Joe Carnahan is set to rewrite and direct a new action movie for Sony Pictures called Five Against A Bullet. According to THR, the project has kind of been sitting around gathering dust for several years, and during that time several people have come on and off the project. Bruce Willis was one actor that was looking to star in the picture, but it's not clear on if it's something he'd still be interested in doing.

The story centers on a "Mexican politician who, after his father is killed by a drug cartel, hires the five best bodyguards from around the world to protect him through a contentious election."

This sounds like the perfect project for Carnahan to develop. His energetic directing style would translate perfectly to a story like this. The other films he has directed include Narc, Smokin’ Aces, and The Grey
