Check out this adorable video featuring a young Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint as they go through the audition process together for Harry Potter. It's so weird seeing them again at such a young age. They were perfectly cast in their roles, and it was cool watching them grow up on the big screen. I haven't watched the first couple of Potter films in years. Maybe I'll revisit them soon.

We have a fantastic trailer for Edgar Ramirez's new film The Liberator for you to check out today. It tells a fascinating story that is sure to make for a solidly good movie. The story centers on Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco, or Bolívar as he was known. He was one of the most influential military leaders and freedom fighters in Latin America's clash for independence from colonial Spanish rule. Bolívar lived from 1783 to 1830, and this movie is a biopic that tells his story. I'm not really that familiar with Ramirez, but it looks like he gives a hell of performance in this feature. Here's the synopsis:

"Edgar Ramirez stars as Bolivar, one of the key figures in Latin America’s struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire. The film is told from the viewpoint of Bolívar, following his quests and epic military campaigns, which covered twice the territory Alexander the Great conquered, and his vision to unify South America."

The movie is set to be released on August 22nd.

Movie Time Travel Debunked by Scientists

There are a ton of movies that deal with time travel, and most of them are really great. When it comes to time travel in these stories, it doesn't really matter if it's possible or not, it's all about the imagination and wonder of it all.

The Screen Junkies wondered how far away from time travel technology we are, so they enlisted the expertise of University of Southern California physicist Dr. Clifford Johnson and JPL NASA scientist Christina Heinlein. They got them to break down the physics of time travel in films such as Back to the Future, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Planet of the Apes, X-Men: Days of the Future Past, Edge of Tomorrow, and even some TV shows like Quantum Leap

Even if time travel isn't really possible, it still makes for an entertaining plot point in the movies!

While we continue to wait for a US release date for Terry Gilliam's particularly kooky-looking film, The Zero Theorem, we have a new international trailer for you to watch! It's always fun watching Gilliam's bizarre movies, he always manages to surprise me. This movie has been a long time coming.

The film stars Christoph Waltz as "an eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence – or the lack thereof -once and for all. However, it is only once he experiences the power of love and desire that he is able to understand his very reason for being."

The movie is sure to be yet another wild ride from the filmmaker. It also stars Matt Damon, Tilda Swinton, David Thewlis, Melanie Thierry, and Lucas Hedges. Enjoy the trailer!

Frozen was one of the biggest Disney animated movies ever, and it seemed like everyone loved it. You can leave it to the bums over at CinemaSins to give us all of the reasons why the movie sucked, though.

"Someone said we don't do animated movies. That's only true in that, until today, we hadn't done one… yet. Today, of course, that all changes, as we finally do your damned bidding (demanding) and go looking for sins in Disney's icy sensation, Frozen. Surprise, surprise… in movie about a magical ice princess, we found a few sins."

If you enjoy watching CinemaSins get really picky about movies and tear them apart, then here ya go!

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Set Footage with Thor, Captain America and Tony Stark

Some video footage from the set of Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron has surfaced online thanks to Cinema Blend. It gives us a look at Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, with Chris Hemsworth as Thor calling down lightening from the sky. It also gives us a brief glimpse at some recruits training for what might be a part of the Avengers initiative that Tony Stark is bankrolling. This is mostly likely the organization that will be taking the place of S.H.I.E.L.D. I like the Captain America blue color of the recruits outfits. I hope Agent Coulson returns to the Marvel cinematic universe in Age of Ultron. The movie is set to be released in theaters on May 1st, 2015!

Harrison Ford's STAR WARS Injury Was Worse Than I Thought

Han-Solo.jpg

The Millennium Falcon really did a number on Harrison Ford. Last week the actor's ankle was injured on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII by the door of the famous hunk of junk. I figured he just sprained his ankle or something and that he'd be back on set in no time. It seems like that's not the case at all.

According to THR the actor actually broke his ankle, and he will be out for eight weeks! That sucks ass, as they've only been shooting for a month. Shooting will still continue in his absence, and Episode VII is still expected to be released on December 18th, 2015.

After all the Millennium Falcon and Han Solo have been through together the ship decided to finally break him. I guess it was bound to happen after all those years together. It's just one more reason for Ford to hate on the Star Wars franchise.

I freakin' love this illustration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters as zombies! It was created by Charlie Layton and this is what he had to say about the piece:

"Some Nuclear Ninja Turtles. I've wanted to make this for a long time and illustrating it was way more fun than I was expecting."

It definitely turned out to be a really entertaining piece, and If you want to buy a shirt with this design on it or a print, just click here

Frank Grillo Cast in THE RAID Remake

In a recent interview with Captain America: The Winter Solider co-star, Frank Grillo, he confirmed that he will be in The Raid remake currently in development. Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) is set to direct the film, and last month Grillo was named as being one of a few actors that the director wanted in the film. The other actors on that list included Luke Evans, Anthony Mackie, and Ethan Hawke. Those other names have yet to be confirmed though. Grillo seems extremely confident that he can kick ass in the movie, and this is what he had to say in the interview with We Got This Covered,

"What people don’t know is that I’m a black belt in jiu jitsu, which I’ve been for 20 years, and I’ve been boxing since I’ve been 15 years old – those are things that come natural to me. Believe it or not, I just got hired to do [the remake of] The Raid… I loved [the original]… we’ve got to do this justice. It’s a fanboy favorite."

Well, it's going to be pretty awesome to see Grillo in action and showing off his skills. He's got some big shoes to film, but 20 years is a lot of experience, and I'm sure he could pull off some pretty badass movies. I like Grillo as an actor, and since this unwanted remake is moving forward anyway, the least I can do is hope it will be decent. I know it won't be as good as the original, but there's a good chance that it will at least be entertaining.

We Might Actually See a New MIGHTY DUCKS Movie

Disney's The Mighty Ducks was one of the sports film franchises I really enjoyed watching when I was growing up. It got me into hockey, which is one of the few sports that I truly have fun with. I don't need to see another Mighty Ducks movie anytime soon, but if it happened I'd definitely watch it!

Time recently did a profile on the Mighty Ducks trilogy for its 20th anniversary and they interviewed several members of the cast and crew about the films. During the discussion Joshua Jackson said he'd lace up again if it happened, and producer Jordan Kerner revealed that he has had a few meeting with the studio over the years about bringing the franchise back to life. Here's what he had to say:

"There have been a number of times that we have discussed with the studio the idea of either bringing it back and bringing it back possibly with one or two of the guys who are now in their thirties as the coaches, and having a few more of them be their friends in their lives and having the kids come back. And I’ve been pitched a story two or three times. It hasn’t been the right story yet, but the idea of doing that is something Steve and I have talked about and actually Disney and I have talked about. So I’m not going to fuel the rumor mill that it’s going to happen, but I’m saying to you that the studio said to us, 'We’d be interested if you come to us with the right story.'"

I'm sure they could come up with a solid story that the studio would like if they wanted to. There's obviously a chance that one day a new movie could happen, and I think it'd be cool if it did. The more I think about it the more I would like to revisit some of these characters as adults. It's always fun to think about revisiting old movie characters from films that we grew up watching.

I bet if Disney actually did develop a new Mighty Ducks feature, they would make a great financial return. It's one of those franchises that I think still has a huge fan base.

Second Red Band Trailer for LET’S BE COPS

It’s good to see Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. break away from their roles as struggling pals who get caught up in ridiculous situations on New Girl to star in a movie as… well, struggling pals who get caught up in ridiculous situations. The two actors are taking their proven comedic chemistry to the big screen in Let’s Be Cops, an action-comedy that follows two friends who dress as police officers for a costume party and get mixed up with real life mobsters and dirty detectives.

The movie comes from director Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door) and also stars Rob Riggle, Keegan-Michael Key, and Nina Dobrev. Every single trailer released so far has been loaded with laughs, and this new red band trailer is no exception. The green band trailer currently running in theaters always gets an amazing reaction from the audience. This second red band trailer thankfully isn’t as raunchy as the first, and it features some great new scenes.

Let’s Be Cops hits theaters August 13th.

5 Biggest MORTAL KOMBAT Movie Missteps

Top 5 MORTAL KOMBAT Movie Missteps

I don’t know about you, but E3 got me SUPER stoked to slap Mortal Kombat X into my PS4 next year! In my excitement I went back and watched one of the few video game movies that actually encompasses the feel of the original material. That movie? You guessed it, New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat! Well, despite having a lot of input from original game creators Ed Boon and John Tobias, there are a few things in the film that aren’t quite canon, so here is my list of the five biggest things they did differently than the original storyline for the games. I am not including parts from the rebooted timeline, however, since the movie wasn’t based on that timeline. (Also, we’re only gonna talk about the first Mortal Kombat movie, because Annihilation got so much wrong this article would have to be printed in hardback…)

#5 — Liu Kang’s Origins

top-5-mortal-kombat-movie-missteps

While the film got a good portion of Liu Kang’s back-story correct, they missed a few pretty major points. For starters, in the game series Liu Kang doesn’t have a younger brother, nor does he leave his life behind. He, for the most part, fully-embraces his destiny to be the defender of Earthrealm. But I suppose coming back to face his destiny in order to avenge his dead brother does have more depth to it than, “it was his destiny to do so, so he did.” Also it helps establish how much of a dick Shang Tsung is.

#4 — Kano: The Thug from Down Unda

top-5-mortal-kombat-movie-missteps1

This is actually a fun example of something non-canon becoming changed. When the movie came out the games actually portrayed Kano as an American-Japanese expat and feared leader of the Black Dragon crime syndicate. But the late, great Trevor Goddard portrayed him as an unusual Cockney-English character that American audiences mistook for Australian. So for every game going forward, Kano’s backstory and eventually voice-actors changed to Australian. He was also portrayed as slovenly and kind of a bumbling idiot. Luckily that didn’t really carry over into the games, because I’ve always seen Kano as kind of a shady bad-ass! I mean the dude rips people’s hearts clean out of their chest with his bare hands. How much of a clown can he really be? The gritty “re-imagining” Mortal Kombat: Legacy created for Machinima definitely got that shady bad-ass feeling right.

#3 — Reptile is LITERALLY a reptile

top-5-mortal-kombat-movie-missteps2

I’m not sure HOW this decision was made. I mean it’s not like the writer, Kevin Droney, didn’t know anything about the game. Like I said, most of it is spot-on! Maybe the studio just wanted an excuse to put a SUPER mid-’90s CGI monster in the flick. And funnily enough, this is another case of a weird change becoming canon. Because in later iterations of the game, namely in the PS2 era, there are versions of Reptile as an actual lizard-creature who wears ninja garb and stands upright. (I personally much prefer the regular ninja renditions.) I am glad that when Reptile finally faces off with Liu Kang he magically possesses a dead body and BECOMES a ninja. Because watching Robin Shou wriggle around with a fake monster for the whole fight would have been super lame!

#2 — Man, that Raiden guy sure is sassy!

top-5-mortal-kombat-movie-missteps3

Now don’t get me wrong, I thought Christopher Lambert freakin’ ROCKED IT as Raiden. He is even billed first on the cast list on IMDB! And he was leaps and bounds better than Dexter’s Dad in Annihilation. But in the series, Raiden is very stoic and all-knowing. He is a god, for crying out loud! He alone is in charge of keeping the forces of Outworld at bay! Eventually he even becomes an Elder God! (Complete with spooky glowing red eyes.) But I guess it was 1995 and “sassy guy in charge” was pretty popular. Gotta sell those movie tickets some how! Now go zap some people you big sassy goon!

#1 — Scorpion’s Living Serpent Spear

top-5-mortal-kombat-movie-missteps4

And here we have another example of the studio saying, “CGI is HUGE right now! Make that evil ninja-dude’s spear thing a snake!” In absolutely EVERY version of every Mortal Kombat ever, both before and after the movie, Scorpion’s Serpent Spear is a ninja Kunai on the end of a rope. Now maybe this is just me nitpicking because Hanzo Hasashi, the betrayed and murdered ninja turned avenging specter, Scorpion is not just my favorite character from the series, but one of my all time favorite video game characters EVER! Throughout the series Scorpion has maintained a consistent level of BAD. ASS. The CG for the spear was pretty cool when I was a kid, but since it was so expensive to do something like that back in the day, it turns into a gimmick in the movie. A vehicle to use the famous Ed Boon “GET OVER HERE!” audio clip. The fluid movements of Scorpion and his spear are part of what makes his fighting style so uniquely cool! Ugh… sorry folks. Sorry, I just… I love Scorpion so much.

What do you think of the list? Like it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments. What did I miss that REALLY threw you off from the movie? Also, be sure to check out me trying to convince people the Mortal Kombat series is more amazing than Street Fighter in GeekTyrant VS! Lastly, I leave you with a picture of me dressed as Scorpion, just so you know my love is real…

Keanu Reeves Replaces Daniel Craig in THE WHOLE TRUTH

Daniel Craig was set to star in a courtroom drama called The Whole Truth, but unexpectedly had to drop out four days before shooting began. Deadline is now reporting that Keanu Reeves has come in to take his place. This will be quite a different role for Reeves than the kinds of films we're used to seeing him in. Lately he's been doing a lot of genre films dealing mostly with martial arts, which is something he obviously has had a passion for since The Matrix

The actor will play a defense attorney who "fights to get his teenage client acquitted of murdering his wealthy father." He will join the previously cast Renee Zellweger, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), and Gabriel Basso (Super 8, Kings of Summer).

This isn't the first time Reeves has played an attorney, he also played one in The Devil's Advocate. I really do like Reeves as an actor, and it's good to see him take on a part like this that breaks free from the norm he's accustomed to . The movie will be directed by Courtney Hunt from a script written by Nicholas Kazan. The film will shoot in New Orleans after the Fourth of July weekend.

People-vs-George-Lucas-2-Poster.jpg

Now that George Lucas has sold the rights to Lucasfilm and his Star Wars franchise to Disney, director Alexandre O. Philippe is making a sequel to his 2010 documentary The People Vs. George Lucas. The first film examined the relationship between fans and the legendary Star Wars creator after the the prequels were released and the majority of his fans were pissed off. The sequel basically asks the question, "What does the future of Star Wars look like without George Lucas?"

The producers of the project just announced the production of The People vs. George Lucas Episode II, released a poster, and set the release date for December 2015. That's the same month and year that Star Wars Episode VII comes out. Here's the official announcement with the synopsis:

We are proud to announce THE PEOPLE vs GEORGE LUCAS – EPISODE II is now officially in production, and slated for a December 2015 worldwide release.

In keeping with the tradition of our enormously popular original film, this participatory documentary is now open for submissions to fans around the world. Rants, opinions, parodies, fan films, images, songs, and creative speculations about STAR WARS – EPISODE VII are encouraged, and can be submitted directly via our website: pvg2.com

SYNOPSIS:

There is a great disturbance in the world of STAR WARS fandom.

While many seem delighted that George Lucas finally handed over the reins, and excited about the future of the franchise; others are worried about the Disneyfication of the galaxy far, far away that has defined their childhood.

THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS – EPISODE II will draw the curtain on the examination of the most complex relationship between a creator and his fans in the world of popular culture, asking the question: what does the future of STAR WARS look like without George Lucas?

The first doc was great, and I'll definitely watch the sequel.

Marvel pulled out an old letter from 1963 that Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin wrote to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The letter was in regards to Fantastic Four #17, and he praises the issue saying it's "greater than great." He then went on to say it's "absolutely stupendous, the ultimate, utmost!" When you read this letter, keep in mind that Martin was around the age of 14 or 15 when he wrote it. The guy definitely has a way with words, and he was destined to be a great writer.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Takes Place 10 Years After DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg haven't really been very shy about talking about the next installment of the X-Men franchise. Whenever they're asked about it they go ahead and reveal little bits of information, and we've got a new one for you today. During a recent podcast Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, Kinberg revealed that X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in 1983, which is ten years after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

We knew that the story would most likely take place in the 1980s, but this information gives us an exact date. The movie will also introduce and explore different characters at different ages during that timeframe. It was previously revealed that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will all be back to reprise their roles, and that we might also see Gambit and Nightcrawler as well. It's also been confirmed by Kinberg that we'll see younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.

I grew up in the 80s, so it's going to be fun to see that era brought to life like on the big screen in the form of an X-Men movie. X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016.
