GOTHAM Photo and Ben McKenzie Talks about his Character Jim Gordon

gotham-photo-and-ben-mckenzie-talks-about-his-character-jim-gordon

Gotham looks so damn good. I think it's going to be an incredible series. The show's star, Ben McKenzie, recently sat down for an interview with EW to talk about the Batman inspired show. He plays police Detective Jim Gordon story, who eventually becomes the Police Commissioner of Gotham. It will tell his story and the rise of the villains and heroes in Gotham. When asked about his character, McKenzie said:

"He’s a truly honest man. The last honest man in a city full of crooked people. It’s very tricky nowadays to play a true, honest-to-goodness hero. Everybody is so cynical of people’s intentions. What’s interesting about him is he comes into this city that he hasn’t lived in for two decades, since he was a kid, and has fresh eyes to a world he doesn’t actually know. He thinks he knows it, and his journey will be to figure out how to make it better both for Gotham and himself without completely [losing] the moral standing that he has. He’s not an anti-hero, he’s a true hero — but he will have to compromise."

At one point he's asked about how Gordon will maintain his ideals throughout the series, to which he replies:

"He won’t. And that’s one of the things we talked about very early on. This is not a Batman-from-the-’50s kind of show, with moral duality in black and white. In this world, everybody lives in the grey. Everybody is on the take. Everybody is compromised. There is no way he’ll emerge unscathed from that. How does he hold onto the thread of his mortality while getting things done?"

He went on to describe the character as a "flawed human being." Saying:

"He’s strong and smart and tough, but he’s going to make wrong decisions and trust the wrong people. And he has no out — he can’t put on a cape and fly off."

When I saw that Mckenzie was cast as Gordon I couldn't have been more thrilled. I watched him in both The OC and Southland. He's a hell of a talented actor, and he's perfect for the part.

Make sure to read the full interview over on EW.

Cosplayer Carla Croft created an amazingly fun Lara Croft cosplay outfit that brilliantly pays tribute to the very first Tomb Raider game. She has the polygon style face, pointy boobs and even the textured abs! It may not be the sexiest Lara Croft cosplay I've seen, but it's definitely one of the coolest.

Jason Momoa to Play Aquaman in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE?

There's a big rumor that has hit the internet from a reputable source that claims Game of Thrones and Conan actor Jason Momoa is set to play Aquaman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The news comes from Drew McWeeney of HitFix who doesn't screw around with this stuff. I believe he's one of those guys you can trust when it comes to this kind of news. He was the first to report the new Star Wars trilogy. Since the studio has yet to confirm, we'll treat it as a rumor for now. This is what he had to report:

"While Warner Bros. hasn't made that announcement officially yet, HitFix can confirm that he will be playing the part, and that Zack Snyder has already finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon."

Momoa was asked back in March about the rumors of him being cast in a DC superhero film at Detroit Motor City Comic Con in which he responded:

“I think it started when people said ‘What superhero would you play?’ And I’d say Batman and Superman, they’d be awesome together. Then people were like, ‘He’s in 'Batman vs. Superman!’ I’m like, I really like Lobo. ‘HE’S LOBO!!’ And then some asshole was like ‘He’s Aquaman!' And I’m like — what did you just call me? Where the fuck do you pull out Aquaman? Seriously… And then it shows up on the Internet. Not that it’s a bad rumor."

Just because he completely denied it there doesn't mean it's not true. You know how directors and actors like to play games with the fans. Remember when Snyder denied up and down that Zod wasn't going to be in Man of Steel? Then there was J.J. Abrams who kept saying that Khan wasn't going to be in Star Trek Into Darkness. We all know how those turned out.

This news could prove to be true or it could be false. Either way I'm sure one day Aquaman will see his day on the big screen, and I could easily see Momoa pulling it off. I know he's not the best actor in the world, but it's Aquaman, and Momoa seems like the kind of actor that could possibly pull it off. What do you think about the this rumor of Momoa taking on the role of Aquaman?

The CW has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for The Flash, and it includes more footage from the highly anticipated new superhero series. The video also includes an interview with the Tom Cavanagh, who plays Dr. Harrison Wens in the series, and he offers us a little background information on Barry Allen and his newfound superpowers.

After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.

The series is set to be released later this year!

Sneak Peek at Dystopian Series THE LOTTERY

$

It wasn’t too long ago that I was making fun of Lifetime’s predilection for terrible TV movies about terrible men. But, like seemingly every network (I’m looking at you, The CW), they’ve taken a hard turn into genre territory lately, greenlighting Witches of Eastwick and an Omen-inspired series from The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara. The network recently sent us a sneak peek of their upcoming series The Lottery, and it actually looks kind of great. It’s from Timothy J. Sexton, who scripted Children of Men, and it is a long form exploration of the same theme: all the women, everywhere, are infertile and have been for years. Here’s an official synopsis:

Set within a dystopian future driven by a global fertility crisis, The Lottery reveals a world staring down the barrel of impending extinction as women have mysteriously stopped bearing children. After years of research, Dr. Alison Lennon and her team remarkably create 100 viable embryos. To determine which women will carry the prized embryos to term, a national lottery is held and a battle over the control of the 100 embryos begins.

That sounds promising. Children of Men is one of the rare movies that is better than the book it's based on, but it gave short shrift to one of the book’s major themes, which was that whoever controls the miracle baby controls the future. It sounds like this series is going to tackle that head on.

The Lottery stars Marley Shelton, Michael Graziadei, David Alpay, Athena Karkanis, Yul Vazquez, Shelley Conn, and Martin Donovan. It premieres Sunday, July 20 on Lifetime.

Guillermo del Toro Drops out of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Project

Guillermo del Toro has dropped out as the director of Emma Watson's live-action Beauty and the Beast film project. According to Deadline he had other commitments to focus on, but he will still be a producer on the film that he wrote the script for. It's sad to see Del Toro go, but maybe he has bigger and better things to attend to. As long as Watson is still on board to star I'll be looking forward to it. This is what the director said about it in a previous interview,

"It's one of those landmarks, one of those holy grails, and I really hope to do it. We're just starting the process. It's a movie that you have to make in the next few years for Emma to be perfect for the part. I think she is the perfect character to do that movie."

Warner Bros. has already started the hunt for a new director. With Del Toro still involved with the production, I'm sure they'll hire someone solid to bring the story to life.

Artist Dan Mora came up with these super slick character redesigns for Batman and Nightwing. I've gotta say ,though… Batman's gloves are an interesting choice. They don't match the rest of the outfit. Regardless of that, the design is still really cool.

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe to Star in Shane Black's THE NICE GUYS

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black is currently developing a film noir project with producer Joel Silver called The Nice Guys. They are looking to cast Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe to star alongside each other in the movie. Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but if they can land the actors you can bet your ass they will.

The story is set in smoggy 1970s Los Angeles, and it "follows Jackson Healy (muscle-for-hire, recovering alcoholic) and Holland March (private eye, practicing alcoholic), who are brought together by the suicide of a fading porn star. However, the dead girl's aunt is convinced she saw her niece alive and well after the highly publicized incident. March needs money, takes the case, and within days, it's blossomed into a far-reaching murder conspiracy, bizarrely rooted in smog and the U.S. auto industry."

The script was written years ago by Black and Anthony Bagarozzi, but it didn't really go anywhere until now. It would be great if Crowe and Gosling signed on. They're both incredible actors, and they've both starred in noir movies. Crowe did L.A. Confidential \, and Gosling was in Gangster Squad

I love film noir, so this is a project I'll definitely be keeping my eye on.

STAR WARS Inspired R2-D2 Can Cooler

This R2-D2 can cooler is the perfect thing to keep your drinks cold during the blazing hot summer. It's available for purchase on Think Geek for $7.99, and this is the product description:

"It's difficult to think of a character in the Star Wars universe who was more useful than R2-D2. Princess Leia relied on him to bring her pleas of help to Obi-Wan. Luke Skywalker relied on him to help pilot his X-wing and ultimately destroy the first Death Star. Even Queen Amidala depended on R2 to repair her ship's shields while running the Trade Federation's blockade of Naboo. Now, you, too, can rely on this trusty droid... to keep your favorite beverages cool! And believe us, R2 knows a thing or two about cold. If the -60° standard of Hoth's nights weren't cold enough, the vacuum of space would surely give this epic droid knowledge of chilling out. Seriously, this R2-D2 Can Cooler is the only civilized way to keep your beverages frosty like Hoth on while chilling on the sands of Tatooine."

Cameron Crowe Developing TV Series for Bad Robot Called ROADIES

Cameron Crowe doing a TV Series?! Sign me up, I'm already sold. According to Nikki Finke, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production company is going to announce a TV pilot for a Showtime series created by Crowe. The filmmaker is best known for movies such as Say Anything, Almost Famous, and Jerry Maguire.

I've really enjoyed most of the films that he has made over the years, and this series he's developing sounds fantastic. It’s described as an "ensemble comedy set during a U.S. rock tour." The title they are currently going with is Roadies, but there's a chance that could change. Crowe is set to direct the pilot before the end of the year, and this will be his first time taking on a TV show. I love the initial concept of the series, and I can't wait to watch it!

His next film comes out this Christmas. It's an untitled romantic comedy film starring Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, and Bill Murray.

This Father's Day my brothers and I will gather around the TV with our dad and watch the season finale of Game of Thrones. In celebration of Father's Day, HBO released a great Game of Thrones promo. I know we've all had issues with our dads at one time or another, but if he hasn't accused you of murder and sentenced you to death, you should consider your relationship with him great! The video points out several scenes from the series highlighting all of the terrible father figures.

G.I. JOE Director Jon Chu to Direct NOW YOU SEE ME 2

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M Chu is already done shooting his Jem and the Holograms adaptation, and now it looks like he's ready to take on the world of magic. According to The Wrap he is the frontrunner to helm Now You See Me 2 for Summit Entertainment.

The first film was directed by Louis Leterrier, and regardless of how ridiculous it was I really had a great time watching it. I was hoping that we'd get a sequel, so it's good to see that it's moving forward. The movie made more than $350 million worldwide.

The first movie follows an FBI agent and an Interpol detective as they track a team of illusionists (The Four Horsemen) who pull off bank heists during their performances and give their audiences the money.

Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Mark Ruffalo are all expected to return. I don't see how they could make it without them. It will be fun to see where they take the story and get some more insight into the underground magician society they were brought into.

Sarah Paulson Reveals Her Role in AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW

American Horror Story: Freak Show is the fourth season of the Ryan Murphy created series, and it's currently in production. This season is set in the 1950s and follows a one of the last remaining freak shows in the country. Series star Sarah Paulson has revealed the characters that she will be portraying this time around.

As you can see in the photo she will be playing a two headed woman. One of the characters is named Bette and the other is Dot. It's so hard to predict what this next season will entail and what is in store for her character. Anything can happen with this series. It's so damn erratic, which is why I love it so much. One of the few things we do know is that Jessica Lang will be playing a German expat, who will be managing the freak show. I've also heard rumors of a killer clown.

The show will star Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, and Emma Roberts, all of whom should be playing other performers in the series. Michael Chiklis will also have a role as Peters' character's dad.
