new-trailer-for-denzel-washingtons-the-equalizer

We've got another trailer for Denzel Washington's vigilante movie The Equalizer for you to watch. I enjoy watching action thrillers like this, and it looks like Washington gives a fierce performance. The actor plays a hardcore character named Robert McCall who helps a young woman, played by Chloe Moretz, gain her freedom. In the process he takes down the entire Russian mob. Washington is such a great actor, and it's great that he teamed up with his Training Day director, Antoine Fuqua, to bring us this film. Here's the synopsis:

"In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer."

The film also stars Melissa Leo, Martin Csokas, and Bill Pullman. It will be released in theaters on September 26th.

Tom Hiddleston to Play Hank Williams in I SAW THE LIGHT

Marvel movie star Tom Hiddleston has been cast as country music legend Hank Williams in a biopic called I Saw the Light. The movie will be directed by Marc Abraham from a script he wrote. The movie is based on book Hank Williams: The Biography written by Colin Escott, George Merritt, and William MacEwan

Williams was born in 1929 in Alabama, and at 10 years of age he taught himself to play the guitar by watching other guitarists. He put together his first band when he was 14 and that led to an incredible yet short life. He really broke out into the musical scene during the post-World War II era with the song "Move It on Over." After struggling with alcoholism he died at age 29 of heart failure.

According to Variety, producers have also picked up the rights from Sony ATV for Williams’ songs such as "Your Cheatin’ Heart" and "Hey Good Lookin’." The film will go into production in October in Louisiana.

Hiddleston is a great actor, and he really looks the part. This will be a solid project for him to work on, and as a fan of the actor I'll be looking forward to see his performance.

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION - 2 New Posters and International Trailer

optimus-prime-and-grimlock-featured-on-poster-for-transformers-age-of-extinction

Two new posters have been released for Transformers: Age of Extinction. The first features Optimus Prime and Grimlock looking like they're determined to kick some ass. The second is an international poster that shows Prime engulfed in flames. I've included a new international trailer for the movie as well!

Judging from the trailers that have been released for the movie, Prime and Grimlock are going to make for a great, dynamic team, and they are sure to cause all kinds of destruction fighting bad guys. I really hope that Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots don't just come into the picture at the end of the movie. I want them to play a good solid part in the story. It's set to be released on June 27th!

Will JUSTICE LEAGUE Include Martian Manhunter, Max Lord, and Darkseid?

The Wrap's Jeff Sneider has reported more potential news from Zack Snyder's Justice League movie. He seems to have come across some information that suggests Martian Manhunter, Max Lord, and Darkseid will be in the movie.

This isn't the first time we've heard a couple of these names, as both Manhunter and Darkseid have been previously been rumored to be in the film. Apparently Darkseid will be the main villain in the story. This is the first time I've heard Max Lord attached to the project, though. The news comes from an agency grid that Sneider tweeted that you can see below:

What's interesting about this is that Warner Bros. superhero movie screenwriter David S. Goyer went off on Manhunter and criticized him, saying:

"He can't be f***ing called the Martian Manhunter because that's goofy. He can be called Manhunter… The whole deal with Martian Manhunter is he's an alien living amongst us… So he comes down to Earth and decides, unlike Superman who already exists in the world now, that he's just going to be a homicide detective…"

Maybe this was just a ploy to throw fans off. One thing we do know is that come Comic-Con in July a lot of the answers the questionx we have will be revealed. Rumors will be confirmed or denied. I'm curious to see how this all plays out.

This report follows the recent superhero movie line-up rumor that involves Shazam, Sandman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern.

Boba Fett Definitely Doesn't Look as Cool with His Helmet Off

Here's a behind the scenes photo from the set of Star Wars: Episode VI - The Return of the Jedi featuring Boba Fett without his helmet. The photo has completely ruined my vision of what Fett actually looks like under the helmet. He is the least badass person they could have gotten to put on that costume. I'm not really sure, but there's a chance that that could be Frank Oz. I included another behind the scenes shot from the same movie below. I don't think it is, and I couldn't find any information that Oz ever stood in as Boba Fett. All I know is that now, every time I see Boba Fett I'm going to think that of that face behind the mask. Thanks to Kristian Odland for the tip!

Updated Information: This is Don Bies, who is one of two ILM employee's that played Fett while George Lucas was shooting the special edition films. The guy was obviously still clearing living in the 70s with that mustache and glasses. Thanks to GT reader Brian Moman for the insight!

Deadline

Here's our first look at Tom Hardy playing twins in a new film currently in production called Legend. The period gangster movie sees Hardy step into dual roles as the infamous Kray twins Ronnie and Reggie. He looks really great as both of these characters, and it's going to be really interesting to see how he portrays each of them.

As we previously reported, the story will follow the "tortured and unique relationship between gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, the identical twin brothers infamous for their criminal exploits in London during the 1950s and 1960s." Some of the other elements that the story will tackle include "notorious gangster Jack 'the Hat' McVitie, who was murdered by Reginald in 1967 - politician Lord Boothby, and the brothers’ nemesis in the police force, DS Leonard 'Nipper' Read, who made it his life’s ambition to put the Krays behind bars."

5 Geeky Things We’re Buying Our Dads This Week

Father’s Day is on Sunday, and if you’re still scrambling to find the perfect gift, here are our best suggestions.

Blade Runner Whiskey Glass

Let your dad relax after a long day like the badass he is. This hand-made crystal tumbler is exactly the same as the one Rick Deckard used in the classic sci-fi noir Blade Runner. [Firebox]

Tactical Barbecue Gift Pack

Dads all think they are masters of the grill. They rarely are, but that doesn’t stop them from spending an inordinate amount of time preparing to burn your burger. This S.W.A.T. style barbecue set matches his intensity for the grill. As a bonus, it includes a tool for that other timeless “Dad’s in charge” food, pizza. [ThinkGeek]

9-in-1 Emergency Tool Kit

Nothing says, “I have faith in you, Dad,” like a multi-tool designed to fight off a zombie horde. With this he can chop down a tree, bash in some brains, bury your neighbor, and then open one of the cans of chili you scavenged. [Amazon]

Iron Throne Replica

Treat your dad like the king he is and put this at the head of the dining table. Sure, you may have to mortgage your house to afford it, but think of all the sacrifices he’s made for you along the way. [Firebox]

Fitbit Flex

You love your dad, and you want him around for a long time. But look at what he’s been up to. Drinking, eating charred red meat and pizza, fighting zombies, and playing the game of thrones. None of those activities scream longevity. So get him a Fitbit to let him know you want him to stick around. Oh, and would it kill you to call him once in awhile? [Amazon]

Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a new documentary being released by Paramount Pictures. It takes fans through the humble beginnings of the Ninja Turtles all the way to the successful global phenomenon that it has become. The studio has released a short trailer for it that you can check out below.

The doc was started in 2008 by three hardcore fans: Isaac Elliott-Fisher, Mark Hussey, and Randall Lobb. They spent the next five years years shooting the doc in their spare time in-between their day jobs. They managed to land interviews with TMNT creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, as well as Steve Barron, who was director of the original live action Turtles movie. They also talked to Brian Henson, who worked on the creation of the costumes for the original movie.

Turtle Power looks like a must watch for any true TMNT fan. It will be released on August 12th on DVD and Digital HD. Thanks to THR for the tip.

Simon Pegg Talks about Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN Exit

As you know, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are best pals, and at one point Pegg was even rumored to be a part of the Ant-Man movie because of the photo above. Nothing ever materialized from that rumor though. No one really saw all this Ant-Man drama coming, it was completely unexpected for the fans, and a lot of them were pissed. In a recent interview with Pegg, he weighs in on his friend's departure from the project saying:

"I Feel lucky that I got to read Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s Ant-Man script… Daring, fun, funny, and hugely exciting; shame we won't see it."

He further explained:

"I think it’s a terrible shame. I get why perhaps it’s happened. Maybe they want a particular thing in line with a particular other thing, but if you hire a director who has a particular vision, you’ve got to expect him or her to make a such and such film. An Edgar Wright film. That’s what that script was and it was interesting. The characters had a real journey. I can’t really say too much about it because obviously it’s not my thing, but it’s their loss."

Marvel let go of a great director, but like I've said before, the studio is going to get the movie they want, and they weren't willing to compromise their vision for Wright's. You can watch the video interview below from Sky Movies.

Idris Elba plays a hardcore criminal in his new drama thriller No Good Deed. Elba is known for his roles inThe Wire, Marvel's Thor franchise, and Pacific Rim. This looks like an intense film, and Elba gives a really aggressive performance.

The story follows Terri (Taraji P. Henson), "a devoted wife and mother of two, who lives an ideal life that takes a dramatic turn when her home and children are threatened by Colin (Elba), a charming stranger who smooth-talks his way into her house, claiming car trouble. The unexpected invitation leaves her and her family terrorized and fighting for survival."

In honor of the tenth anniversary of Mean Girls, the gang over at Cinefix has given the film the 8-Bit Cinema treatment. It takes viewers on a quest to survive high school. I actually really enjoyed Mean Girls when it came out. It was a decently made film. It helped spark the careers of Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried, and lead to Lindsey Lohan's downfall.

Review: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 is an Incredible Adventure!

review-how-to-train-your-dragon-2-is-an-incredible-adventure

I’m going to start off by saying I really liked the original How to Train Your Dragon. It was a fun and whimsical romp through a uniquely painted environment. But while I liked the first movie, I fell head-over-heels, madly in LOVE with How to Train Your Dragon 2! I went into the theater skeptical that the sequel would be able to  live up to the first one, but from start to finish I was entertained for a huge variety of reasons. Now, let’s get into some of those reasons, shall we?

Let’s talk characters. I don’t know if it was letting writer Dean DeBlois fully take the helm on the sequel (he co-directed the first film), or perhaps including the writer of the original children’s book, Cressida Cowell put her touch on it, but it was SO well written. I loved the way the characters interacted with each other, whether it was cracking jokes that hit me square in the funny bone, or heart-warming moments that had me choking back tears so I wasn’t the dude in his mid-twenties crying in a theater full of children. I haven’t seen an animated film that so accurately hit emotions quite like this in a very long time. (Your move Pixar!) And these characters are put through the ringer. Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his pals face incredible peril, and you truly feel these fun characters get beaten down before they stand back up. That makes the upward movement later in the movie feel so much more rewarding.

But what are great characters without an amazing story? Not sure, but luckily we won’t have to find out from How to Train Your Dragon 2, because the plot is great! The stakes are insurmountably higher in the second movie. No longer are we just trying to convince dear old, stubborn dad that dragons “ain’t so bad." The fate of the entire world lays in the balance. And that world expands SO much further than the little village of Berk this time around. As Hiccup states in the beginning of the movie, with Vikings on the backs of dragons, the world just got a whole lot bigger. I’m happy it did, because this is a world I’m happy to come back to again and again to explore. And explore it we do!

All in all, How to Train Your Dragon 2 isn’t just a good kids movie, it is a fantastic adventure! An adventure that is going to hurt my wallet, because I know I’m going to be going back to the theater just to relive it. This movie is well worth seeing, and toss in the extra few bucks to see it in IMAX, because each frame of it is breathtakingly colorful and engaging.

GAME OF THRONES Writer Hired for MAGIC: THE GATHERING Movie

Game of Thrones writer and producer Bryan Cogman has been hired by 20th Century Fox to take on the script for their big screen adaptation of Magic: The Gathering. He will work alongside producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men, Fantastic Four) in developing the story.

They have such a huge fantasy world to play with, and the studio hopes to turn it into an epic franchise like The Lord of the Rings. The fantasy based card game was introduced in 1993, and it includes several races of humans and creatures that vary in strength. The players use special weapons and spells with these characters to battle each other.

I haven't played this game since high school, but I had a great time playing when I did. Hopefully they develop a great movie, and turn it into a successful franchise that fans will enjoy. Hiring Cogman on to help in the process is definitely a step in the right direction.

Julie Newmar Catwoman Maquette is Purrrrfect

Ahh puns, they are indeed a wonderful thing.

While there were 3 different actresses who played the femme fatale known as Catwoman on the 1966 Batman series, most people associate the part with Julie Newmar, and rightfully so (though I do look back on the Eartha Kitt time fondly). She embraced the over-the-topness of it all and looked gorgeous while doing it.

Turns out the guys and gals at Tweeterhead are also huge fans of the show, hence we have this gorgeous Catwoman Maquette as a result, and it truly is beautiful. The Maquette bears an uncanny resemblance to the brunette beauty and comes in at 11.5 inches high, complete with an Egyptian style cat statue propping her up. If you head to their official site you can put in an order for the exclusive emerald edition as well, which features the emerald green jewel instead of the normal diamond colored version. Tweeterhead really outdid themselves, and if you feel the same way you can pre-order yours now and can expect it to land on your doorstep sometime this August.
