Darth Maul Vs. Jedi in Exciting STAR WARS Fan Film

$

It's not hard to argue that Darth Maul was the best part of the entire Star Wars prequel trilogy. I wish they hadn't killed him off in The Phantom Menace. We did get to see him back in action in the Star Wars: The Clones Wars animated series, though! And, of course, he lives on in a lot of fan films out there. We have one for you to watch today that actually turned out to be really cool! It was created directed by Shawn Bu, and you get to see Darth Maul go ballistic against some Jedi scum.

"If you want to see Darth Maul in Action, check out our ultimate Lightsaber Fight! We shot this in one crazy long day just for fun!"

The short is very fast-paced and action-packed. I hope you enjoy it!

Trailer for the Psychological Thriller COHERENCE

A full trailer has been released for a solid-looking psychological thriller called Coherence. It was written and directed by James Ward Byrkit, and the story follows the events of a night when an “astrological anomaly” affects life on Earth. I enjoy watching movies that are supposed to mess with your head like this.

On the night of an astrological anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE is a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery.

The movie stars Emily Baldoni, Maury Sterling, Nicholas Brendon, Elizabeth Gracen, Alex Manugian, Lauren Maher, Hugo Armstrong, and Lorene Scafaria. It's set to be released in theaters and VOD on June 20th. I'll definitely be checking this one out.

Superhero Woodblock Art Series by Brian Reedy

Here's an incredibly cool set of superhero woodcut art created by artist Brian Reedy. The set features Marvel and DC characters like Wolverine, Batman, Thor, Superman, Spider-Man, Aqua Man, and even Hellboy. I did some woodblock art for a class once, and holy crap, it was hard! Reedy seems to have a handle on it, though. This stuff is fantastic.

Each one is 12"x24" woodblock printed on 20"x30" rice paper with deckle edge. If you like what you see, you can purchase them in his Etsy store.

Disney's MALEFICENT IMAX Poster

This IMAX poster that Disney released for their film Maleficent kind of has an eerie feeling to it. That gaze in Angelina Jolie's eyes is enough to make me feel a little uneasy, and I love it. She's going to give an incredible performance in this movie, she definitely looks the part. I just can't wait to see what it looks like when she turns into that insanely nightmarish dragon! The movie is set to be released on May 30th, 2014.

There's so much that we can and have complained about with the Star Wars prequel films. But it's still really fun watching Screen Junkies tear it apart with their latest Honest Trailer.

May the 4th was just with us, and the cast for Star Wars: Episode VII has been announced - what better time to revisit Attack of the Clones, the movie that confirmed our very bad feeling about the prequels. So strap in for this sequel to the very first Honest Trailer EVER!!

I understand that there are fans out there that actually liked these movies. I just don't understand why they liked them, especially after being reminded of how terrible they were thanks to this latest Honest Trailer.

EVIL DEAD 2 Movie Update - Development is Slow but ARMY OF DARKNESS 2 is in the Works

The Sam Raimi-produced and Fede Alvarez-directed reboot of Evil Dead was awesomely nightmarish. I really enjoyed that movie, and I wasn't sure if I would because I'm such a hardcore fan of the original. The reboot was a big hit though and fans of the original seemed to embrace it as well.

There was a lot of talk about a sequel after the reboot was released. It was something that everyone seemed excited about seeing, including the fans and the filmmakers. So why has nothing happened with it yet?! Because Raimi, Alvarez, and Bruce Campbell are in no rush to do it.

In a recently interview with Shock Till You Drop, Alvarez had this to say when asked about the sequel:

"Sam, Bruce, and Rob Tapert and I are good friends and we talk to one another often and we're always coming up with new ideas and projects. Sam is teasing Army of Darkness 2, which he is working on the script with his brother, but at the same time Evil Dead 2 is something we definitely want to do at some point. ... It's always in the background and always in our heads. And every time I talk with Sam, we're bouncing around ideas to find what would be the perfect sequel."

At least Raimi is actively developing Army of Darkness 2! I wonder if they are looking to get that movie out before they proceed with an Evil Dead sequel. At one point there was a plan that Alvarez had in his head to combine the rebooted Evil Dead world with Rami's original world, which would be amazing! It's something that isn't outside the realm of possibility. After all, Ash did make an appearance in the post-credits scene of the reboot.

Look, all I want is more Evil Dead movies and it sounds like it will eventually happen. We just have to be patient. Unfortunately for us geeks, we aren't very patient people.

New INTERSTELLAR Trailer Attached to Godzilla - Brief Description

new-interstellar-trailer-attached-to-godzilla-brief-description

A few months ago the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's new film Interstellar was released. It hardly gave us anything to go off of, which was great. I honestly don't want them to show any more than that. I think they should shroud this movie in mystery until its release. Of course, that's not going to happen because the studio is going to want to entice audiences to go see the movie.

The Washington Post reports that a full 2 minute, 54 second trailer for the movie will be attached to next week's release of Godzilla. The report also gave a brief description of a sequence in the upcoming trailer, which apparently is currently playing at the Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater in Washington, D.C., Here's the description:

"The trailer unspooled to show Matthew McConaughey driving his truck through corn fields while a lush orchestral score swelled in the background. Later, the fields had caught fire, an ominous dust cloud could be seen looming over a baseball game, and McConaughey (playing a character named Cooper) was reassuring his daughter that he loved her — right before being shot into space in order to save the world."

As you saw in the poster yesterday, the tagline for the film is, "Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here."

The highly anticipated sci-fi film also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Timothée Chalamet, Topher Grace, David Oyelowo Ellen Burstyn, Michael Caine, and Matt Damon.

The story chronicles the adventures of "a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage."

The movie will be in theaters on November 7th, 2014. Make sure to check back here for the new trailer, which will most likely debut online next week.

3 STAR WARS Spin-Off Films Are Currently in Development

We know that on top of the new Star Wars trilogy, Disney and Lucasfilm also plan to produce some solo films set in that universe. During the Walt Disney Company quarterly earning stockholders call, Disney CEO Bob Iger offered an update on the Star Wars spin-off movies.

He said that as of right now there are "at least three" Star Wars spin off films in development, and they will be released alongside the main sequel trilogy. Up to this point, only two of these Star Wars projects have been confirmed.

The solo films they are looking to make have previously been described as being origin stories. None of the films have been officially announced yet, but there have been rumors about films that would include Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett. All of these would make sense to do, but right now all we know about these movies is that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are developing screenplays for whichever characters the studio has chosen to focus on. Who knows, maybe some of these solo films they plan on making will feature some of the new characters being developed for the new trilogy.

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to be released in theaters on December 18th, 2015. It's so exciting to hear that these Star Wars movies are actually moving forward.

Matt Damon Willing to Reprise His Role as Jason Bourne!

Matt-Damon-in-Bourne-Wallpaper.jpg

With Jeremy Renner and Justin Lin taking over the reins of the Bourne franchise, it would appear that Matt Damon’s part is over. This might be true, but if all of the pieces fall into place, he could be back.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Damon announced that he still has a desire to play Jason Bourne. Here are some parts of his interview from the video below:

"I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director. We've just never been able to come up with a story..."

Just because they can’t come up with a story doesn’t mean that we can’t come up with one.

“So if any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it.”

He also says:

"I love that character and I'd love to see what happened to him."

While Damon is all on board for another Jason Bourne film, it doesn’t look like Greengrass is. He had this to say about the continuation of the franchise:

“Listen, I loved the Bourne movies. I loved making them but it's like anything in life, you've got to move on and do different things.”

While I really like Renner as Aaron Cross, nothing beats the original. Even though there is no guarantee that there will be another Jason Bourne movie, it is nice to know that there is still a chance.

POWER RANGERS Movie Reboot set up at Lionsgate

Lionsgate is teaming up with  Saban Brands to develop a new Power Rangers movie! The live-action reboot will be based on the original 1990s TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

According to THR "the new movie franchise will bring back a group of high school kids with superpowers they must harness and use as a team to save the world."

Power Rangers was always fun to watch growing up. My brothers and I would watch it all the time. Even my young daughters watch it on Netflix every single night, which I think is pretty freakin' cool. It's great seeing them get into this kind of stuff. I'm sure they will be extremely excited to hear that a new movie is being made.

I think Power Rangers could be a huge hit as a movie franchise, and I'm surprised it took them this long to make it happen. Saban Brands head, Haim Sabansaid, had this to say in a statement:

"Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangersbrand to the next level.”

Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer, added:

"We’re thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise."

Of course they are thrilled! This franchise is going to make them a ridiculous amount of money. Power Rangers is still one of the top-rated and longest running boys series being produced. it will be great following the production news on this and seeing the team they assemble to bring it to life. I'm I'm already kind of excited to see the final product.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - New Photos of Star-Lord

Thanks to Geek Magazine we have a couple of new photos from James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. They feature Chris Pratt as Star-Lord looking like a badass. I have a feeling this movie is going to be bigger and more successful than people realize. It's got everything that a successful blockbuster needs, but most importantly it expands the Marvel cinematic universe into… well, the universe! Audiences love a good action-packed sci-fi space adventure, and the fact that it's coming from Marvel is the icing on the cake. The movie comes out on August 1st!

This amazingly well-made animated short film, "Mite," is inspired by Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. It takes the whole creepy factor of the Overlook Hotel to a disgusting new level by showing us what lurks deep in the iconic carpet. The film was made by Walter Volbers over the course of 10 years, and it's seriously unbelievable what he managed to accomplish. I'm incredibly impressed. This is a very entertaining short. The movie takes the viewer into some very unexpected places, and there's even a little bit of humor thrown into the mix.

Melissa McCarthy's film career has blown up since Bridesmaids, and now it seems like she stars in one comedy after another. The next film she is doing is a fun-looking dark comedy called Tammy. It's a passion project that she co-wrote the film with her husband, Ben Falcone, who is also the director. If you're a fan of McCarthy's comedy style, then this seems like a movie that you'll really enjoy. Here's the synopsis:

Tammy (McCarthy) is having a bad day. She’s totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house. It’s time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), is her only option—with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shotgun, it may be just what Tammy needs.

The movie also stars Allison Janney, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Toni Collette, Nat Faxon, Dan Aykroyd, and Kathy Bates. It will open in theaters on July 2nd. Thanks to ABC’s Good Morning America for the trailer.

BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM - Sneak Peek Featurette

BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM - Sneak Peak Featurette

The next animated film to be released by DC Animation will be Batman: Assault on Arkham. What makes this movie so exciting is the fact that it's based in the world of the Arkham video game franchise. The movie is a prequel that takes place two years before the first video game, Arkham Asylum

This new featurette gives us a sneak peek at the film including footage, storyboard art, and interviews with the cast and crew discussing the story and the characters. This is definitely a must watch for anyone who is a fan of these DC animated movies. Batman: Assault on Arkham looks like it's going to be pretty awesome.

The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva who says he wanted to direct it like a Guy Ritchie film. So they made it feel like a heist movie.

The film features the voice talents of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Troy Baker as Joker, Eliza Dushku as Killer Frost, Hynden Walch as Harley Quinn, Neal McDonough as Deadshot, Matthew Gray Gubler as The Riddler, and CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller.

The movie will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital later this summer.

Horror Movie Icon Art - Behind the Mask Series

Here is a look at Behind the Mask Series 1 by Vlad Rodriguez. We found this over on XomdieDIRGE. This is what he had to say about the art collection:

"Behind the Mask" is a new horror-themed print series paying tribute to the actors behind some of the genre’s most iconic movie monsters. The series kicks off with three portraits by Vlad Rodriguez, featuring the villainous visages of John Kassir (The Cryptkeeper), Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees) and Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger).

Strange Kids Club founder Rondal Scott III explains, “Our intention with these prints is to pay respect to the actors, actresses and performers who made these monsters so iconic in the first place. These characters are more than just movie make-up and special effects, they are the product of hard work and great performances by the actors who portrayed them. If this first limited run proves successful our hope is to eventually expand the series to include other famous monsters such as Jeff Goldblum as The Fly, Tom Woodruff Jr. as Pumpkinhead and Linda Blair as Possessed Regan. There’s even the possibility we might pitch the project as a trading card series at some point should fans really get behind it

I think this is a super cool concept, and I would love to see a trading card collection with all of the beasties that haunt our dreams.

THE WALKING DEAD Scoops Up Another Veteran From THE WIRE!

the-walking-dead-scoops-up-another-veteran-from-the-wire-social.jpg

If it wasn’t obvious that The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is a fan of The Wire before, it is starting to become clear.

THR is reporting that Seth Gilliam, who played Detective Ellis Carver on all five seasons of the HBO hit The Wire, has been cast as a regular AMC mega-hit The Walking Dead. Here is what the report had to say about the casting: (Warning! There are some potential SPOILERS! Just thought you should know so you can’t get mad at me later.)

The casting breakdown -- which used the dummy name of Michael -- described the character as friendly with a puckish demeanor who also has a haunted side, though that is not expected to be accurate, either. (There also is not a character with the name Michael in the ongoing comics series, unless you count a small boy named Mikey.)

THR's best educated guess is that Gilliam is playing Gabriel Stokes, a preacher who first crosses paths with Rick in the 61st issue of the comics -- just before the ragtag band of survivors encounters the Hunters (aka the cannibals). Not long afterward, Gabriel reveals the dark lengths to which he went in order to ensure his survival and becomes a member of Rick's community. (He's also still alive in the comics.)

I am a huge fan of The Wire, and I love seeing these actors enter the world of TWD. I hope that the cross casting continues. I have been reading the comics and so far the casting has been spot on, which makes the show that much better for me. Needless to say, I am stoked about this latest casting news.

Animation storyboard artist Jeff Hong created this depressing Disney photo series called Unhappily Ever After. It features the sad lives that Disney characters would be living if they were in the real world. It's a good thing they don't live in the real world, though. These movies and the characters in them are there to uplift us, and help us get through our own crazy depressing lives! Poor Jeff must have been having a shitty day when he thought this project up.
