x-men-days-of-future-past-tv-spot-every-power-will-unite

Fox has released a couple of new TV spots for X-Men: Days of Future Past that focus on the threat posed by the Sentinels. All of the the mutants, good and bad, must unite to take them down and save the world from total destruction. This film is incredibly ambitious, and it would be quite a feat if the filmmakers were actually able to pull it off. X-Men: Days of Future Past comes out on May 23rd, and I can't wait to see it!

must-watch-extended-trailer-for-gotham

Last night we shared the first trailer for Fox's new Batman-inspired series Gotham. Today we have an extended trailer for that's over 2 minutes long. Obviously, there's a lot more great footage that you have to see. The promos for this show have actually given me goosebumps. I don't think that has ever happened to me with a TV show before. My excitement for this show is an exploding mess, and I can't wait to be able to watch it.

Comic Artist Jim Lee's Rejection Letters from Marvel and DC

Jim Lee is a very popular comic book writer and artist. He did some amazing art for Marvel's X-Men in the late '80s and early '90s. I loved the X-Men comics that he worked on. He then co-founded Image Comics where he did some really cool stuff such as WildC.A.T.s and Gen 13 under his Wildstorm Productions studio. Gen 13 was one of my favorites. He was most recently involved with rebranding all DC Comics superheroes in The New 52.  Lee's designs are now the guide for most of DC's most popular characters, and he's also serving as co-publisher of the company.

Whats funny about all this is that Marvel and DC both rejected Lee several times before they finally gave him a shot. Lee has shared some of these rejection letters online, and I've posted them here to read. What's so great about this is that Lee never gave up. He just kept sending them stuff until they finally gave him something to work on. It goes to show that if you want something bad enough, keep working at it and don't give up.

The next letter was the first assignment that he got from Marvel.

This was the result of his first job.

netflix-renews-orange-is-the-new-black-for-season-3

The second season of Netflix's Orange is the New Black won't be released until June 6th, but they are already moving forward with season 3. The news comes from one of the show's stars, Laura Prepon, who posted a photo on her Instagram page with possible titles for the third season. You can check out that image below. It came along with the following caption:

“It’s official!! Season 3!! #oitnb#alexvause#backtothebighouse.”

The comedy-drama was created by Jenji Kohan and is based on the memoir of Piper Kerman, which is called Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison. If you haven't started watching the series yet, you really need to get on that. I didn't expect much from the show, but once I started watching  I couldn't stop. I am happy to hear that there will be a third season.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Working Title Revealed

0
0
star-wars-epsode-vii-has-a-working-title

We still don't know what the full title for Star Wars: Episode VII will be, but AICN has confirmed that the working title for the film is The Ancient Fear. Their source says that the title "refers to Max Von Sydow's villain who makes Pazuzu look like a pussy!"

Personally, I love The Ancient Fear as a subtitle. If that ended up being the final title for the movie I would not be disappointed, but since this is only a working title, it could change at any time.

The same source that gave the site this news also informed them that the film would shoot in Abu Dhabi. They ran the title by "lots of people in JJ's camp - including JJ," but didn't get any response until a separate source from the production contacted them and gave the exact same title.

Let's see what happens with it. Now that the word is out there's a greater chance that the final title will be something else.

Fun POV Film Noir Short - GUMSHOE

I'm a big fan of film noir, and I came across this great short that's worth checking out. It's called Gumshoe, and it comes from director Matt Steinauer. It's a creative and unique piece of storytelling that is told from the point of view of the main character. Here's a short synopsis:

A hard-boiled tale following Gumshoe, a private eye hot on the trail of his missing partner. In this world of femme fatales and hired goons, the truth lies beneath.

The short has a great atmosphere, and I enjoyed it. I hope you like it, too.

Poster for Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Live Read

I'm really hoping that Quentin Tarantino turns his script for The Hateful Eight into a movie someday. He's currently working on a new draft of it, so there's a good chance that it will happen. He wouldn't be working on it if he still didn't want to turn it into a movie. Tarantino's films are so damn entertaining, and from the reports that I've read of the live read, this sounds like it would make a great flick.

Matt Owen created the poster above for the event that took place a couple weeks back. The stage performance featured Samuel L. Jackson, James Parks, Kurt Russell, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, Denis Menochet, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Dana Gourrier, Zoe Bell, and James Remar. It was put on as a benefit for Film Independent in Los Angeles.

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

The 16×20 screen print can be purchased for $45 here, and all proceeds go to Film Independent.

Thanks to The Playlist.

Stunning STAR WARS Art by Tommy Lee Edwards

This set of beautiful Star Wars illustrations comes from artist Tommy Lee Edwards. You can tell he was inspired by legendary poster artist Drew Struzan. Edwards does add his own little flare to it, though. It's really cool to see the original trilogy and new trilogy combined in such a fantastic way. I really like this guy's art, so make sure you click here to check out his other art.

Will STAR WARS REBELS and STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Be Connected?

0
0
star-wars-rebels-zeb-1.jpg

I love how anything and everything that happens in the Marvel Universe affects everyone involved. It looks like Disney is going to be doing the same thing in the Star Wars universe.

While at a Star Wars convention in England, Movie Cricket was able to catch up with John Morton. Who is that you ask? John Morton played Luke Skywalker’s gunner Dak in The Empire Strikes Back. In the same movie he was used as a body double for Boba Fett. What does he know about Star Wars Episode VII? Apparently a lot!

While speaking with Morton, Movie Cricket found out that the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels will be connected to Star Wars: Episode VII. Here is what he had to say:

“Rebels is the key. Rebels will provide the link to bring in the continuity from Clone Wars, the Original Trilogy and the Prequels to enable LucasFilm and Disney to tee-up ‘Episode VII’. If you want my informed opinion, it will enable ‘Episode VII’ to leapfrog over the whole trilogy.

The key that is going to make this work is Rebels. Rebels will set up and point the direction for ‘Episode VII’.

The characters they are creating in Rebels will be around in ‘Episode VII’."

This is pretty amazing news if it is true. I can’t wait to see if this all ties in together. Are any of the recently announced new cast members going to play one of these characters? The timetable is totally feasible.

I am stoked to start Rebels to see what I can glean from it. Rebels will premiere this fall, and Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in December 2015.

9 Things You Didn't Know About PULP FICTION - Video

9-things-you-didnt-know-about-pulp-fiction-video

This year Quentin Tarantino's classic film Pulp Fiction turns 20 years old! It doesn't seem that long ago that the movie first came out. It kinda makes me feel really old. I remember sneaking out to see this movie in theaters without my parents knowing. There's no way they would have let me watch this when I was a young teenage hooligan.

To celebrate 20 years of Pulp Fiction, the gang over at CineFix released this great video breakdown of nine things you (probably) didn't know about the film. There are actually a few fun, interesting facts that I didn't know before. If you're a fan of the movie, then you've gotta watch the video!

Disney has released a new featurette for their visually-stunning new film, Maleficent. As you'd expect from a featurette, it includes new footage from the movie along with interviews with the cast and crew such as Angelina Jolie, director Robert Stromberg, screenwriter Linda Woolverton, and Elle Fanning. The movie will be released in theaters on May 30th!

Marvel Characters Reimagined as Clone Troopers

Artist Jonathan Bolerjack sure does love those Star Wars clone troopers! He uses them as a canvas for a lot of the art he creates. This is a collection of Marvel-style clone trooper characters he made. Those characters include Captain America, Hulk, Deadpool, Hawkeye, Thor, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Carnag,e and Venom. I came across this artist's stuff while walking around artist ally at WonderCon. He has a lot of really fun stuff to check out!

Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick Cast in Max Landis' MR. RIGHT

Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick are set to star in Mr. Right, which was written by Chronicle scribe Max Landis

According to Deadline, "Kendrick will play a woman whose bad luck streak at finding lasting love seems to end when she meets Mr. Right. That’s until she discovers he is a reformed hit man. When his dark past catches up, their fledgling relationship is tested as they try to save one another."

I'm a huge fan of Rockwell, and Kendrick is great.  It will be awesome to see these two talents team up for this fun-sounding flick.

None of the movies that Landis has worked on since Chronicle have been released yet, but I liked what he did with that movie. He also worked on Daniel Radcliffe's upcoming Frankenstein film.

Mr. Right will be directed by Paco Cabezas. I have no idea if he's good or not, as I've never seen any of his films. Regardless, this movie seems to have a solid team of people behind.

New Pics of Megan Fox as April O’Neil in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

With the upcoming August 8th release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we are soon going to get a media dump of promotion for the movie. I am super excited for the film, despite the fact that Megan Fox is in it. I don’t feel she should be a working actress at all, but that's just me. Maybe you actually enjoy her acting, or perhaps you just enjoy looking at her. Either way, here are a couple of pics of her as April O’Neil in the Michael Bay-produced film.

Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O'Neil (Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.

Superb CG Animated Sci-Fi Alien Film - LEGACY

Screen Shot 2014-05-05 at 3.05.51 PM.png

The stuff that people can do with CG animation these days still manages to impress me, especially when I see something like this independent short film. It's called "Legacy," and it was directed beautifully by Grzegorz Jonkajtys. Here's a short synopsis:

In 2030 patrolling alien spaceships received a powerful radio wave, originating at the blue planet. A recon mission has been sent to investigate the disruption, to question and possibly capture one of the inhabitants of the blue planet, also known as humans.

The design in the film was great, but I especially loved what he did with the alien design. This is really great stuff, and the guy who made it is crazy talented. I hope you enjoy it!

Why Carnage and Kraven are the Villains SPIDER-MAN Needs

0

3410811-c8.jpg
1307069-kraven___ana_2.jpg

As much as I've enjoyed all the Spider-Man movies that have been made, our hero has yet to fight a truly evil villain. Every villain that Spider-Man has gone up against in the movies so far have had emphatic back stories that led them to being a villain. Most of them were all virtually nice guys until life didn't pan out the way they wanted it to. So along with making stupid decisions and being at the wrong place at the wrong time, they went bad. If that's how a villain is born, then I imagine a lot of us should technically have turned into a villain by now.

Here are the examples of what we've seen in the previous films.

In Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie, Norman Osborn experiments on himself with an unstable performance-enhancing chemical vapor that is supposed to make him faster and stronger. It ends up turning him into an insane person. He becomes the Green Goblin only because he's being affected by the drug, and he's not himself.

In Spider-Man 2, Doctor Octavious' wife is killed because he doesn't shut his experiment down when he should have. The neural inhibitor chip which keeps his mechanical arms from influencing his mind is destroyed, and the arms are fused to his spine. They basically take over his brain, and he's not really responsible for his actions.

In Spider-Man 3, Harry Osborn turns bad because his dad was killed by Spider-Man. Eddie Brock turns to the dark side because Peter exposed him as a fraud with his doctored photos showing Spider-Man as a criminal. Jameson fires Brock. Then he's infected with the symbiote that turns him into Venom, which is perfect because now it's easier for him to try and get revenge. Then there's Flint Marko/Sandman who's already a criminal, but not really that insane until he falls into a particle accelerator that fuses his body with surrounding sand. The guy just wanted to help his daughter who had cancer.

In Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, Doctor Conners just wanted to grow himself an arm. So what does he do? He injects himself with a drug that is supposed to help regenerate limbs. Of course it turns him into The Lizard and makes him go crazy.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2 a somewhat mentally challenged genius is all happy-go-lucky until he's electrocuted and falls into a water tank full of electric eels that attack him. Then he just wants people to notice him. The best way to do that is to be bad. Then there's Harry, who, like almost everyone else, injects himself with a serum that turns him into an even bigger ass-hole.

So as you can see, everyone here becomes a villain making stupid-ass decisions, and then blame Spider-Man for all of their problems. Spider-Man needs a true villain. Someone with a dark heart from the very beginning who would put the fear of God into the hero. We need to see Spider-Man fear for his life. A perfect example of this kind of villain would be Batman's Joker, a guy who just wants to watch the world burn.

In a recent interview with CBM, Marc Webb was asked about which unused Spider-Man villain he would be interested in exploring and this was his reply:

"Kraven. Kraven. I like the idea of Kraven. The Vulture. Ock. I always thought the idea of Mysterio was interesting. Maybe Scorpion. But really, Kraven I think is kind of interesting."

Kraven is definitely an interesting choice, and one that I hope Webb actually ends up using. Kraven (a.k.a. Sergei Kravinoff) is described as a "maniacal big game hunter who seeks to defeat Spider-Man to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. Unlike other hunters, he typically disdains the use of guns or bow and arrows, preferring to take down large dangerous animals with his bare hands. He also lives by a code of honor of sorts, choosing to hunt his game fairly. He consumes a mystical serum to give himself enhanced strength and dramatically slow the aging process."

Basically Kraven just wants to hunt Spider-Man for sport. He's not out for revenge, the serum he takes doesn't make him crazy in the head, this is just how he is. He wants Spidey's head mounted on his wall just to prove he's better. He's a person that has always been kind of twisted in the head. This would be a complete nightmare for Spider-Man.

Another villain that Spider-Man needs to fight is Carnage (a.k.a. Cletus Kasady). That guy is a complete psychopath and a homicidal sadist. This is the darkest villain in the world of Spider-Man. When he was a kid he killed his grandma by pushing her down a flight of stairs, and tried to murder his mother by throwing a television into her bathtub. While spending several abusive years in a detention center for boys he's said to have acquired his philosophy that "life was essentially meaningless and futile, that 'laws are only words', and came to see the spreading of chaos through random, unpatterned bloodshed as 'the ultimate freedom.'" So he became a serial killer.

Kasady eventually becomes Carnage and Spider-Man's most powerful and deadly enemy. In the comics Spider-Man couldn't beat Carnage alone so he made a truce with Venom to help take him down. I really hope that Carnage eventually makes his way to the big screen. Carnage is Spider-Man's Joker, and it needs to happen. It would be the biggest mistake for Sony Pictures not to introduce him in their cinematic universe.

I want to see Spider-Man fight a truly insane villain on the big screen. So far, everything that's been done and everything that they have lined up isn't going to fulfill that satisfaction that I'm looking for. There's a good chance that we'll see Kraven make his appearance in the Sinister Six movie being made. I just hope that it's done right. As far as Carnage goes, if they ever do bring him in, it won't happen for a long time. At least not until after they release that Venom movie they are developing.

Which of Spider-Man's villains do you think are his greatest adversaries?

Amazing HOBBIT Inspired Animation Tells the History of Dragons

amazing-hobbit-inspired-animation-tells-the-history-of-dragons

This fantastic-looking digitally animated short inspired by The Hobbit explores the mysterious origins of the dragons of Middle Earth. It was directed by Kieran Duncan, and I love the papercraft design style that was used. It's alike an animated pop-up story book.

This was an MSc Animation class project done in association with Axis Animation. It was made to provide an unofficial animated short to tie in with the release of The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug. The project took 13 weeks to make, and as you'll see, it turned out quite beautifully. I'd watch a full Hobbit movie in this style!

Thanks to io9 for the heads up. I really hope you like it!

Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR has a Teaser Poster

christopher-nolans-interstellar-has-a-teaser-poster

While we wait for the new trailer for Christopher Nolan's sci-fi film Interstellar to be released, here's a teaser poster for it to tide us over. It really is kind of a beautiful poster design. I'm really excited about seeing what Nolan's vision of space is going to be like. Maybe they'll give us a glimpse of it in the new trailer. I've included the first teaser trailer for you to watch below if you want.

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Timothée Chalamet, Topher Grace, David Oyelowo, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine. It's scheduled to be released in IMAX and 35mm theaters on November 7th, 2014.

FOX Orders Full Season of GOTHAM

In case you hadn't guessed from the trailers being released for this new series, Fox has announced that they are officially giving a full 22 episode season order to Gotham. There's a huge audience out there for a show like this, and from what I have seen of it so far, it looks like it's going to deliver the goods. If you haven't seen the trailer for the show yet, click here.

The pilot episode was shot recently, and the network obviously really liked what they saw. The series stars Ben McKenzie as a young James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Cory Michael Smith as Riddler, and Carmen Bicondova as Catwoman. According to the report, the Joker will even have a role in the series. You can check out all of the character photos by clicking here.

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly spoke about the new series at a press conference, saying:

"This is not one of the things where you bought a franchise and then none of characters people know. We will follow Bruce Wayne right up until the point where he gets interesting. It's Gotham teetering on the edge. This is all of the classic Batman characters. This is the Batman franchise just backing it up. It gives a real focus as to what this show is about and what stories we're telling."

I'm really excited about this series. I love the cast, I love the look, and I hope they can deliver crazy awesome stories that will make the fans happy. Here's the previously released breakdown of the series:

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world's greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon's story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world's most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

"Gotham" is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), "Gotham" follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City's surrounding suburbs, James Gordon (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards, Open Grave, “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Terriers,” “Vikings,” “Copper”), as the two stumble upon the city's highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes' hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David Mazouz, “Touch”), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy's profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham's criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith, The Matrix films, “HawthoRNe,” Collateral), and many of the characters who will become some of fiction's most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor, “The Walking Dead,” Another Earth).

Although the crime drama will follow Gordon's turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara, “Burn Notice”), it also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred (Sean Pertwee, "Camelot," “Elementary”). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he's destined to be.

"Gotham" is based upon characters published by DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Heller wrote the pilot, which will be directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” series, “Nikita”).

il_fullxfull.451762876_9b67.jpg

So, you’re redesigning your house, and you think “hmm, I would really like some stained glass here, but I don’t necessarily want the whole cathedral vibe.”

“AHA! I have just the thing!” I say in my best infomercial voice. It has all the elegance and effect of stained glass, but it doesn’t require replacing your windows and it has the innate power of the Triforce! Behold, the Zelda Wind Waker stain glass art print! It also comes with an amazing set of 10 kitchen knives for only 1 additional payment of 9.99! Okay, so maybe not the last thing, but even sans the knives the translucent vinyl print itself is pretty damn cool, and it's all adhesive, so you can stick it and forget it!

I really need to stop watching those rotisserie commercials.

The print itself is being sold by Etsy shop Packmania Posters, and features main man Link in his wind waker art style. It comes in at a whopping 39.5 x 22 inches, so be prepared for a bit of work to get it placed. It's truly worth it though, especially if you have a nice sized sunlit window. Having a bit of shiny wind waker in your life will cost you around $35 with shipping, so if you're interested head to their page to get yourself one.
