New GODZILLA Featurette Focuses on Realism

new-godzilla-featurette-focuses-on-realism

I really don't think that Legendary Pictures needs to do any more to sell us on Godzilla. It seems like most of us are already set on seeing the movie, but the studio has released a new featurette for you to check out if you want. It includes the cast and crew talking about bringing realism to the film. That may sound kind of funny since it's a movie about a giant monster of destruction, but it seems so much more stunning when it feels like it could be real. The featurette also includes behind the scenes footage as well as footage from the actual movie. The studio recently showed off an incredible scene from the film at WonderCon that showed Godzilla facing off against another creature. It would be really cool if they actually released it online for you to see, but I doubt that they will. It might just be too much awesomeness for the world to handle right now. The movie will be released in theaters on May 16th.

Andy Garcia Cast in Big Screen Adaptation of MAX STEEL

THR has confirmed that one of the best actors out there, Andy Garcia, will be playing Dr. Miles Edwards in a big screen adaptation of Max Steel. He will join Ben Winchell and Ana Villafane, who were perviously cast. Max Steel was a line of action figures that spawned an animated series in the early 2000s. Here is the synopsis of the film:

The origins story chronicles the adventures of 16-year-old Max McGrath (Winchell) and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the superhero Max Steel. As these two unlikely friends struggle to accept their oddly connected fates, they begin to uncover unimaginable secrets, working together to find the truth, and fighting the mysterious forces threatening their world.

The movie is being written by Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World). With the recent demand for superhero movies, this doesn’t sound too bad. I figure it might at least be something cool to take the kids to. I'm not really familiar with the toy line or series, but it sounds like fun.

We've already seen a Boba Fett Akira mashup illustration, now there's one featuring Darth Vader. It's called Dark Power, and it was created by neatoshop.com user Ddjvigo. Whenever I see stuff like this it sparks the excitement of how awesome it would be to see a Star Wars anime series. I've gone ahead an included a couple of videos below showing you how great it could be. If you want to by a t-shirt with this picture on it, just click here.

Funny Trailer for Paul Rudd's Comedy THEY CAME TOGETHER

Here's the first fun trailer for Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler's new romantic comedy spoof They Came Together. I got to watch this movie up at Sundance earlier this year, and for the most part I enjoyed it. I don't really care for spoofs, but this one worked much better than many of the others that have been made over the years. I do have to say that Rudd was the best part of this movie. That guy is just likable and freakin' funny. You can read my review for the film here, and this is the synopsis:

They Came Together relates the epic love story of Joel, a corporate executive for Candy Systems and Research, a mega candy store chain, and Molly, the owner of a small sweet shop called Upper Sweet Side. When Joel is tasked with shutting down Molly’s mom-and-pop operation, the unlikely lovers find themselves hurtled into a whirlwind romance. From quaint bookstores and coffee shops to neurotic family members and psychotic ex-lovers, Joel and Molly must face some harrowing obstacles on their path to true love.

The movie was directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) and will be released in theaters and on VOD on June 27. Thanks to BuzzFeed for the trailer.

DreamWorks Animation has released the first featurette for How to Train Your Dragon 2. It's called "5 Years Later," and it features the cast and crew discussing the story of the film and where the characters are in their lives. The video also shows off some more footage. I loved the first film, and I think this sequel looks like it's going to be even better. In case you haven't heard, this movie has been described by the director as the Empire Strikes Back of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, and the studio is planning to make a third installment.

It's been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island's new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.

The movie comes out on June 13th!

Honest Trailer for Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN Trilogy

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 being released this week in theaters, Screen Junkies has delivered an awesome Honest Trailer focusing on Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy. I loved Raimi's vision of this character, I just wish that third one had been a lot better. The first two were freakin' good, so it was really surprising when Spider-Man 3 turned out to be an epic piece of crap. I'm sure the Screen Junkies gang found a lot of joy poking fun at this trilogy. They sure did a great job with it and once again gave us entertaining video to watch.

Spidey is swinging back into theaters soon, so what better time to revisit Sam Raimi's original wallcrawler trilogy? Relive the thrills, tears, and Gollum-ing of all three original Spider-Man movies.

Who Could Die in THE WALKING DEAD Season 5?

everything-you-need-to-know-before-watching-the-walking-dead-season-4-premiere.jpg

I am just going to start this off with a SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t had a chance to finish season 4 of The Walking Dead, then I suggest that you stop reading. I am going to try to keep the spoilers to a minimum, however, if I let a few slip I don’t want you placing burning sacks of poo on my front porch. It’s not nice and I might be forced to put it out with my new boots and no one wants that.

For those of you who have been through the muck of season 4, you know that no one is safe from being taken out. If it drives the story, the writers of TWD have no problem killing a main character off. So, let us travel down hypothetical lane and see who could potentially be killed off and why. There will be a Death Potential Scale (DPS), 1 being least likely to die, 10 being the most likely, and everything in between. Here we go!

Carl and Judith

I am starting off with the Grimes children due to the fact that I believe that they are the only safe characters in this next season. With Robert Kirkman’s ambition to keep the show going on indefinitely, the Grimes’ are the future. Will they be in danger? Yes. Will they die? Nope.

DPS: 1 out of 10

Rick

Keeping with the Grimes clan, I feel that Rick has a great risk potential this season. In fact, I think that Rick’s head is always on the chopping block, the main reasons being Carl and Judith. Rick is willing to lay down his life for anyone in the group, but he will go through hell and back in order to save his kids. If anyone or anything messes with Carl or Judith, all I can say is watch your neck. Rick’s potential to snap is also a factor in this. When we last saw Rick, he was firing on all cylinders. The gears were all in place and he basically turned into Rick the War Machine! However, we have all seen him come unglued, and the gears just weren’t fitting right, this alone raises Rick’s chances of meeting his end. Being a fan favorite is also a hindrance. The ones we love the most will hurt us the worst. All of these factors make it so that Rick is in the upper echelon of the DPS.

DPS: 6 out of 10

Tyreese

I see Tyreese being on the safer side of the DPS. Tyreese is a true badass! I know you are all thinking that he has the fan favorite and potential to snap factors, but I actually think these things work for him in this world. When Rick snaps it is because he cares and that guilt gets to him. Unlike Rick, when Tyreese snaps, he turns into a hammer-wielding rage monster. Dude does not give a flying f*%!  about walkers when he sees red. All he knows is survival and that works for him. Tyreese has been through a lot and I have noticed that he is able to funnel all of that hate and anger into killing walkers. His only downfall would be if something happened to Judith. Due to the recent Lizzy events, I feel that Tyreese is a little more attached to Judith than he was previously. Even with that, I see Tyreese on the lower end of the DPS.

DPS: 3 out of 10

Carol

Carol is a complete anomaly to me. She has had one of the most dramatic character changes in the show. She went from beaten down housewife to killer of walker and human alike. Carol will take out anyone or anything that she sees as a threat to humanity. This works both for her and against her. We have seen her get kicked out of the group without blinking an eye. We have also seen her complete devastation during the Lizzy incident. She knows that nothing in the world of walkers lasts forever, but she is going to do whatever it takes to ensure the post-walker society, if there is one, will be better than when this all started. Like I said before, this works for her and against her. The killing of walkers is fine, but at what point does she start looking at humans as the same as walkers? She has one of the highest human kill counts of the group. When does the group start to perceive this a threat? It is really hard to say where she will end up. She is the wild card.

DPS: 5 out of 10

Michonne

Michonne is another one that is in the wild card deck. However, I don’t see her dying anytime soon. I see her as one of the few who will bring up the future generation. She has proven in the past to be one of the most intelligent and resourceful individuals in this walker world. Having found out about the loss of her child and who her walkers on leashes were, we know she has been through the worst this new world has to offer. She knows what it takes to make it through this, and I feel that she is going to guide those around her to safety. Like the other fan favorites she will always have the potential of death, but I just don’t see that happening any time soon.

DPS: 3 out of 10

Eugene and Abraham

I see Dr. Eugene Porter and Sgt. Abraham Ford as one. No matter where Eugene goes, Abraham will be there to watch over him. This is where the split comes in. Eugene’s DPS is low because Abraham’s DPS is so high. Eugene has proven that he is not the handiest person to have in the walker world, you know this, I know this, and Abraham knows this. Abraham also believes with every fiber of his being that Eugene can bring an end to this madness. This is a very intriguing story line, but it also bums me out. We all know that the show is nowhere near where the graphic novel is, so basically all bets are off. Anyone can die at any time. I just hope that Abraham’s character will be around for a while. Michael Cudlitz, who plays Abraham, is one of my favorite character actors. If you need convincing, watch him in Band of Brothers or Southland. He is fantastic in both. Anyway, I hope that he is going to be on the show for a long time. Unfortunately, with Eugene in tow, I don’t see that happening. Protecting someone is a very noble deed, but it is the most deadly.

Eugene’s DPS: 2 out of 10

Abraham’s DPS: 8 out of 10

Glenn and Maggie

Once again, there isn’t one without the other. I know this one is going to make some people mad, but you have to remember, this is what I think is going to happen. Purely opinion, so if you don’t agree, that’s cool. Let me know what you think. Until then, this is how I see this going. Either Maggie or Glenn will be killed in this upcoming season. I say this because they are both in the same category as Rick. They love each other so much that they will do anything to ensure the safety of the other. It is almost a blinding love that is not going to help them in the long run. Don’t believe me? How many times did you hear Maggie talk about Beth when the group was separated? Her one goal was to get to Glenn and nothing else. Yes, I know you are saying that Glenn had the same mindset, but he also helped Tara while on his quest. If you recall the tunnel, Tara was stuck and when she told Glenn to get out of there, he seriously considered it. Glenn is a good guy, one of my favorites, but Maggie is his biggest flaw. Their love is dangerous for them. As sweet as it may be, it is deadly for them. I am not guaranteeing one of them will die, I am just saying that it wouldn’t surprise me.

Glenn and Maggie DPS: 8 out of 10

Beth

Beth is dead! Ok, maybe not yet, but I don’t see her lasting long. Does anyone remember what happened to her? Swept away in a car right in front of Daryl and then never mentioned again. I was going to put her into the Expendables list at the bottom, but I feel that her story is going to be the surprise wrecking ball that will come ripping through the season. No one is ever forgotten in this world, every little action has massive repercussions later on. I feel that no matter what happens to Beth, live or die, she is going to affect the life of everyone’s favorite character. Thus I feel that her DPS is the most important in this whole thing.

DPS: 8 out of 10

Daryl

I know that this will in no way be the most popular opinion, but it has to be said. Out of all of the group I feel that Daryl is the highest on the DPS. I know that a lot of people out there really did not like the Daryl/Beth episodes of last season. I, on the other hand, really loved them. I felt that they showed how the polar opposites of the show have changed and the good it has done them. The episodes were the blossoming of who both Daryl and Beth really are. They both know that this world is survivable and they can do it together. Then the rug was ripped right out from under them. We all know that Daryl feels completely guilty for what happened to Beth. That is why he hooked up with that group of idiots. Always on the lookout for Beth, hoping that she would be around every corner. Like I said before, Beth, no matter what happens to her, could possibly be the demise of Daryl. He loves everyone in the group, but the heavy weight of losing Beth could cause Daryl to snap. I am not talking eating raw animals, talking to his dead brother kind of snapping. I am talking about the ultimate sacrifice. I am talking a sacrifice that rivals Boromir sacrificing himself to save the lives of the hobbits in The Fellowship of The Ring. Daryl will take on anyone to save the life of Beth, no matter what happens to him. He failed her once; I doubt he will let it happen again.

DPS: 9 out of 10

The Expendables

I feel that Sasha, Bob, Rosita, and Tara are all just Bantha fodder. It isn’t a question of if they are going to die, it is when are they going to die. Don’t get me wrong, I like all of these characters. They just don’t hold the weight that the others in the group do, so they can be taken out at any time. I still consider Bob to be the most sinister member of the group, thus sealing his demise in my mind. However, the others don’t mean that much to me. If they never showed up again, I wouldn’t be that sad.

Just another friendly reminder, these are the opinions of Billy and of no one else. I have no inside knowledge of what is to come, I just like to speculate. If I have missed anything, or you feel that I am way off base, please feel free to let me know.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Still has a Female Lead to Cast

Yesterday we finally got the huge casting announcement for Star Wars: Episode VII that we were all waiting for, but the casting process still isn't over. There's still one major role to fill and it's for a female lead. There was a lot of talk yesterday about how Daisy Ridley was the only new actress announced yesterday, but it looks like she'll be joined by at least one more soon. There are no details on what the role would be, but we can always speculate from past updates.

It was previously reported that Abrams meet with 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong'o, which has been rumored to be for a Sith role, but that's not confirmed. There was also some talk of an unknown British actress named Maisie Richardson-Sellers that was apparently circling a role.

There's been no updates on what is going on with those actresses, but I think Nyong'o is the one most likely to be announced. At least it will be her role that needs to be filled. So if it's not her, it will be someone else in the part.

Whoever is cast in the movie they will also join John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. It's so awesome that this movie has its cast and that it actually going into production soon! Before you know it we'll be sitting in the movie theater watching the story unfold right before our eyes.  So cool.

Josh Hartnett on Being up for Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman Roles

In a recent interview with Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett, Details was able to get the actor to reveal a number of superhero roles that he was offered but ultimately declined. I never really thought about him playing these roles, but it might have made things interesting. Here is what he had to say:

Details: You're 35 now, but in your twenties, you got offered pretty much everything. You turned down Superman Returns, and you were in talks to play almost every other superhero.

Josh Hartnett: Spider-Man was something we talked about. Batman was another one. But I somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn't want that. I didn't want to be labeled as Superman for the rest of my career. I was maybe 22, but I saw the danger.

In the interview, Hartnett talks about his reasoning for leaving mainstream films and why he needed to take some time off from the movie scene. However, I felt that this was the most interesting part of the interview. It is very interesting that he was offered all of these roles that could have launched his career into another stratosphere, and then turned them all down. In the end I am glad that he declined because I don’t feel like he would have done any of those roles justice.

"They never fail who die in a great cause." ― George Gordon Byron

I always feel mixed emotions when I watch a great character in a movie sacrifice themselves to save someone or for a cause they believe in. Some of those feelings include being sad, happy, proud, and pain. You don't want to see these characters die, but when they are selfless enough to willfully give up their life for the benefit of another you can't help but applaud them. YouTube user Crítica Daquele Filme edited together this compelling video supercut featuring 43 heroic sacrifices in film. I may have shed a tear or two during some of the scenes featured in the movies that you will see below.

SINISTER SIX Movie Villain Lineup Teased in Photos

sinister-six-movie-villain-line-up-photo-tease

As you all know by now Sony Pictures is making a Sinister Six spin-off movie. Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard is the man who will write and direct the villain ensemble film. He will be helping expand the Spider-Man cinematic universe, and it's going to be really interesting to see how he handles telling the story of these villains. It seems like it would be hard to make a movie like this without Spider-Man, but there has been no word on if they will include him or not in the story.

Sony has teased the lineup of the villains that will be in the spin-off in the end credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The news comes from Comingsoon who says that "the credits themselves are fully grounded in the Spidey-verse. Sony and Shazam have today revealed a special promotion whereby users can Shazam the end credits song to have a copy of the credits (minus the titles) delivered to their mobile devices."

They managed to capture six different teaser images that you can look over below. From what is shown it looks like the movie will include the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and Mysterio or maybe the Chameleon. I can't really tell on that last one. Look at it for yourself and let us know who you think it is.

The Wrap is reporting that the Sinister Six characters have not been decided on, as Goddard is still finalizing the script. The also say that the movie could start shooting as early as January 2015. I'm sure at this point Sony and Goddard know exactly what they want. After all, they made The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to set it all up.

The movie is set to be released this week on May 1st, and I can't wait!

SLC Comic Con FanX is the 3rd Biggest Geek Event in the Country

Having been to last year's SLC Comic Con and having a good time, I must say that this year's Salt Lake Comic Con Fan Experience was definitely bigger, better, and with the addition of three times more room, way less crowded.

This year they broke the record (which they set last year with first Comic Con in Salt Lake City) by 20,000 more people. Boasting a total of 100,000 people, FanX is now the third biggest Comic-Con event in the country. The first two being San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic-Con. Here's a little infographic with some stats!

One of the big upgrades to this second SLC geek event was the fact that they opened up the full convention room floor offering lot of extra room. It was as tightly packed with fans as it was last year.

The extra room this year definitely made everything much more comfortable. There was freedom given to wander and have fun without feeling like you were going to be trampled to death.

The size of the venue also allowed for a much larger Artist Alley, gaming venue, and even introduce the first Kid Con Experience.

This year the headlining guests included awesome stars like Captain Patrick Stewart, Nathan Fillion, and Karen Gillan. They all took stage and totally owned it, though it would have been nicer to have a little more time with them, I was still very satisfied. There were also many other amazing guests ranging from popular TV to Pop culture classics.

I hit up some great panels during the 3-day event, roamed the floor, got some swag, took a few photos and had a blast. Not only did we have have amazing and fun famous guests, we were also entertained by the fans themselves. Utah has no shortage of geeks, cosplayers and artists. FanX brought them all together and it was loaded with tons of awesome art, incredible cosplay and good times coming from Utah Geekdom.

FanX was a serious fun time. I’m super excited to attend the next official Comic Con here in Salt Lake. I can only expect bigger and better! Bring us the goods!

Thanks to the fun panels, awesome guests, cool vendors, local amazing talent, and the best fans located here in Utah, our geek appetite was definitely fed.

I've included some photos from the convention along with a video featuring some of the cosplayers in attendance.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: The Development of The New Suit

$

MTV was able to do an interview with costume designer Deborah Lynn Scott about the new suit in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I liked elements of the previous suit like the texture, the inset web, and pattern design. While the old suit was received with largely mixed reactions, the new one is far more iconic and loved instantly by nearly everyone due to the key improvement of the eyes.

Scott Via MTV:
“The eyes are the major difference in the costume,”

“The brief from Marc was to make them as large as possible,”

“Having said that, you have to work within the framework of Andrew Garfield’s head.”

“We found that some of our eye designs would make him look concerned or angry, just in the slightest bit,”

Yesterday we posted an infographic showing the evolution of Spider-Man's suit from 1962-2014 and the eyes really do change Spidey's attitude. After lots of trial and error Scott and her team really nailed it. The eyes are friendly and evoke an intelligent alertness that's a great reflection of Garfield's take on Spider-Man.

While I'm not a big fan of the raised webbing, it is an improvement on the chunky hand-cut ones used in the Sam Raimi design. Bren Cook used a precision screen printing to achieve the thinnest and most durable webbing yet.

Jose Fernandez of Ironhead Studios and his team created about 25 to 30 suits for the film.

I'm sure we'll see minor modifications to the suit in future films that show Peter Parker's internal evolution as a hero.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in America Friday, May 2nd.

I was wondering when director Matt Burniston would make his follow-up to the incredibly cool stuffed animal vigilante short film action series, The Mega Plush. In case you missed the first episode, you need to click here to watch it. The director says he's currently working on his plans for Episode III, so that gives us something to look forward to. These are very entertaining, well made animated shorts that I think many of you will get a kick out of.

The tension in the city is high as the SOC’s manhunt for the vigilante group, The Mega Plush, wages on. With the promise of a handsome sum of money dangled before them, many business owners have joined forces with the SOC cramping The Mega Plush’s extracurricular activities. Armed with his two trusty knives and an "I don't give a stitch!" attitude, Mega Tiger welcomes any foe who dares to interrupt his hunt for booze and broads.

Enjoy the show!

FOX has released a new action-packed clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past called "Collateral Damage." It shows us a fun confrontation between Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). I always enjoyed Bryan Singer's style of action direction from the first two films, and it's really cool to see that familiarity of it in this scene. The movie is set to be released in theaters on May 23rd

Last month we reported that starting July 5th the show will be streamed the first and third Saturdays worldwide on Nico Nico Douga. No footage has emerged just yet, but we do have details on the voice cast and some cool art that shows off the character designs.

Via ChruchyRoll:
Kotono Mitsuishi (also known as Evangelion's Misato, One Piece's Bao Hancock and recently Gundam Build Fighter's Rinko Iori) reprises the role of Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon. She's joined by a renewed group of Inner Senshi that includes Hisako Kanemoto (Squid Girl, Gargantia's Amy) as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou (A Certain Scientific Railgun's Mikoto Misaka) as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu (Kill La Kill's Ryuko Matoi, Code Geass' Kallen) as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter and Shizuka Itou (Hayate the Combat Butler's Hinagiku Katsura, Gurren Lagann's Boota and Darry, Jormungand's Koko Hekmatyar) as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.

When I was growing up I knew twins that were obsessed with Sailor Moon. They even learned Japanese so they would't have to wait for the English dubs and were doing Sailor Moon cosplay in the mid-nineties. That's some impressive geekdom. Somewhere in the world I'm hoping they are still excited for Sailor Moon.

"It's good to see everyone."

The latest two TV spots that have been released for X-Men: Days of Future Past contain some more new footage for you to check out. It's going to be interesting to see what happens with this film and X-Men: Apocalypse since all of those Bryan Singer allegations came out. That whole thing is a mess. Regardless of what the outcome is I'm excited for this movie, and I'm sure that FOX will still move forward with X-Men: Apocalypse even if Singer isn't the one that directs it. The studio is still going to want to make their hundreds of millions of dollars. X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released on May 23rd!
