Ridiculously Fun Trailer for WOLFCOP

ridiculously-fun-trailer-for-wolf-cop

Ok, drop whatever your doing and watch this amazing trailer for a movie called Wolf Cop. If you can't tell by the title, it follows the adventures of a half wolf and half cop. The film looks so absurdly awesome that I have to see it. Here's the synopsis:

It's not unusual for alcoholic cop Lou Garou to black out and wake up in unfamiliar surroundings, but lately things have taken a strange turn. Crime scenes seem oddly familiar. Lou's senses are heightened, and when the full moon is out, he's a rage-fueled werewolf. WOLFCOP is one cop's quest to become a better man...one transformation at a time.

WolfCop will be released in Canada through a limited theatrical release platform on June 6th. The rest of the world will have to wait until September before we get a chance see it.

Trailer for Richard Linklater's Epic Coming-of-Age Film BOYHOOD

Boyhood was truly a very cool and unique movie going experience. I had a chance to see it up and Sundance earlier this year, and I loved it. The film is seriously the most epic coming-of-age film ever made. It comes from director Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight, Dazed and Confused) who cast a young six year old boy in 2002. he then shot the film over the course of 12-years, which has never been done before. It follows the lives of the boy, his sister, and his divorced mother and father played by Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette. Here's an excerpt from the review I wrote for it:

A movie like this might be considered a coming of age story, but it's really kind of a coming of life story. There's so much that happens in the course of a person's life, so many twists and turns and crazy emotions. This movie touches on a lot of the crazy things that life can throw at a person. It's an epic, but quiet, drama about living life. Other movies have tried to do that, like Mr. Holland's Opus, but this one actually pulls it off in a way that feels genuinely honest.

The movie will be released in theaters on July 11th. It's not a film that all of you will like, but I think it's worth watching at least once just to experience it. Enjoy the trailer.

Fantastically Charming Animated Short - TIMTOM

I love the art of animation, and this short film is a CGI animated film that pays tribute to the art of animation. The short is called TimTom and is was created by Romain Segaud and Christel Pougeoise.

I love how the includes elements of stop-motion animation, film media and sound to tell the story. It follows two notepad head characters as they are harassed the animators hand.

It was an official selection at Sundance and won a jury award prize at Siggraph as well as the grand prizes at Imagina and Ars Electronica. There's a reason why this won these awards, and you'll see it when you watch the short.

I know we posted a Japanese trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past a couple of days ago, but this is a new one that was released. We are less than a month away before we can watch this movie on the big screen, and the anticipation is killing me. All the trailers that have been released make this movie look like it's going to be incredible. I hope they aren't deceiving us! I'll be pissed if I go to this movie and it sucks! It will be released on May 23rd.

The Godzilla sequel that director Gareth Edwards makes next must include a fight with the Stay Puft marshmallow man. I need to see this image above brought to life! That would be one hell of a fun fight to watch. Godzilla would obviously win by toasting Stay Puft to a black crisp and then eat him.

Hot Toys continues to impress with their latest collectible action figure reveal. It's the villain Rhino from Marc Webb's upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it's big! They included their Spider-Man figure in the pics to show the scale. There seems to be a lot of mixed feelings out there regarding this design for Rhino. I think it's fine, and I'm sure it will look really cool in action on the big screen.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has swung into action and already started to hit theatres around the world!

There are a number of deadly foes out to catch the spider in the action packed movie, and Hot Toys is delighted to share with you today some looks of the Rhino battling our favorite wall-crawler! The prototype of the gigantic Rhino will be shown for the first time worldwide at the “Marvel Sapiens” Exhibition hosted at Hot Toys’ flagship store in Tokyo, Japan from tomorrow until May 11!

First Look at STAR WARS Books in Rebuilt Expanded Universe

$

Yesterday is was announced that Disney would not really be using anything from the Star Wars Expand Universe that has been built over the years. A lot of fans seemed very disappointed by the news. There are a lot of cool stories in there that would make for some great concepts for the films they are making. The Lucasfilm Story Group has already started to build their version of the universe, and they will be releasing a new series of books that tie into the films and series that they are developing.

The first book  is called Star Wars: A New Dawn, which will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels cartoon. Thanks to the press release we have a synopsis to share with you:

The first novel to benefit from this deeper collaboration is Star Wars: A New Dawn, by bestselling author John Jackson Miller. Set prior to the events of the forthcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels, this novel tells the story of how two of the lead characters of the series, Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla, came to cross paths. To tell this important backstory, Miller benefited from contact with series executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman, who together ensured this tale will be part of the Star Wars canon of storytelling going forward. It is scheduled for hardcover and eBook release on September 2nd, 2014.

That description doesn't really give us much detail on the story, so we'll see how it turns out. There are three other books as well that were announced, and they include Heir to the Jedi, Lords of Sith and Tarkin. I've included the full press release with all of the details below.

Following today's announcement of Lucasfilm's new unified storytelling approach, Disney Publishing Worldwide is proud to announce their first step into that larger world, beginning with Del Rey Books. The publishing program will feature new adult fiction novels set in the beloved galaxy far, far away, and will be closely connected to the cinematic entertainment currently in development at Lucasfilm.

Star Wars novels consistently rank on the New York Times Bestseller lists -- from the very first tie-in novel, an adaptation of Star Wars: A New Hope released by Del Rey in 1976, to the recently published Star Wars: Kenobi -- and dozens of titles in between. With over 75 million copies sold worldwide, these books have captured the imaginations and creativity of authors who have enriched the Star Wars experience for fans around the globe.

Going forward, Lucasfilm has begun mapping out the narrative future of Star Wars storytelling that will appear on film and television and in other media so that all projects will benefit from real-time collaboration and alignment. The future Star Wars novels from Disney Publishing Worldwide and Del Rey Books will now be part of the official Star Wars canon as reflected on upcoming TV and movie screens.

"With the establishment of the Lucasfilm Story Group and our even greater focus on unified storytelling, we expect our entire publishing program to be stronger and more meaningful than ever before," said Jeanne Mosure, senior vice president and group publisher, Disney Publishing Worldwide. "We're extremely excited to kick off this new strategy with Del Rey Books."

It is scheduled for hardcover and eBook release on September 2, 2014.

"We're extremely proud of the hundreds of amazing Star Wars books we've published at Del Rey," said Scott Shannon, SVP, publisher, Del Rey and Digital Content, "And now we're excited to finally be able to call our upcoming novels true canon -- a single, cohesive Star Wars storyline -- all while keeping the amazing backlist of Star Wars Legends content in print."

Following Star Wars: A New Dawn, the all-new Star Wars fiction line will continue with the following 2014/2015 titles:

STAR WARS: TARKIN
James Luceno
11/4/14

STAR WARS: HEIR TO THE JEDI
Kevin Hearne
January 2015

STAR WARS: LORDS OF THE SITH
Paul Kemp
March 2015

In years past, the storylines that would appear in print and on screen were developed separately, resulting in an "Expanded Universe" that differed in ways large and small from the filmmaker's "canon." These rich stories provide a treasure trove of characters to fall in love with -- and deep worlds to explore and will live on in both physical and digital editions, newly-branded as Star Wars Legends.

Check these two cool looking character designs for Batman and Robin. They were created by Artist Coran "Kizer" Stone, and this is what the artist had to say about them in his notes:

The man of the Darkness. That Man in the Night. Batman. Thought I'd redesign the dude once again but show him in his late 30's to early 40's this time. Popped a bit of Recon in there.

My Tim Drake is mischevous. Robins always fun.

I really enjoy Stone's art. I've shared  a lot of his stuff over the years. He just has such a badass style.

Lionsgate has released a creepy first trailer for their southern set horror thriller Jessabelle. The story follows a grief-stricken Jessie (Sarah Snook) who retreats to her father's run down Louisiana mansion, after losing her fiancé in a car accident. While there she finds a VHS tape that has a gift from her deceased mother, and of course there's an evil spirit hell bent on killing her.

The movie was directed by Kevin Greutert from a script written by Ben Garant. It also stars Mark Webber, Joelle Carter, David Andrews, Amber Stevens and Ana de la Reguera, and will be released on August 29th, 2014. It looks like I really fun horror flick!

Lies We've Learned about Space in Sci-Fi Movies

Here's a fun video presentation from Buzz Feed that gives us a break down of eight lies that sci-fi movies have taught us about space. In it they discuss sound, asteroid fields, Inertia, bodies exploding, instant freezing, crying, gravity, and explosions. When I'm watching a movie, I don't really think about these kids of things. I just want to be entertained. Let's face, if someone actually made a scientifically accurate space adventure movie, it would be boring as hell. I do love how the movie Spaceballs was the one film that accurately portrays how inertia works in space.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn tweeted out this new photo of Chris Pratt as in full gear as Star-Lord. It came along with the following caption, "Knock Knock, Who's there?" Maybe there's something behind those doors that he could blow away!

This movie is going to contain some of the most amazingly colorful characters that the Marvel universe has to offer, and I can't wait to see them all in action. I'm also excited to see where the story will lead the Marvel cinematic universe.

Today's animated short film comes from Gobelins school of animation. It's called Spotted, and it's a great film noir style comedy piece that centers on a fugitive who is "intercepted by two customs officers as he tries to escape his fate. During a violent interrogation, Big Mike and his sidekick attempt to dismantle his secret network and to put an end to his dreams of liberty…" Gobelins always tends to put out really fun animated shorts, and I think you'll enjoy this one.

Steven Spielberg to Direct Adaptation of Roald Dahl's BFG

Steven Spielberg has been circling a lot of potential directing projects recently, but it looks like his next one will be a live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's book The BFG.

The book was published in 1982, and the story follow a Big Friendly Giant who befriends a young orphan girl. The script for the film will be written by Melissa Mathison, who wrote the script for Spielberg's E.T., so this movie could have E.T. goodness potential.

Spielberg hasn't directed a movie since Lincoln in 2012, and since then he's been trying to decide what his next film project would be. Some of the other ones he has been looking at include The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara; a Cold War project with Tom Hanks attached to star; the sci-fi film Robopocalypse; and Montezuma, which tells the story of Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes and the famous Aztec ruler.

These are all great projects, but according to THR the director has committed himself to The BFG. He is planning to start shooting the film in 2015, and it will be released sometime in 2016.

I was hoping he would go with the Cold War drama with Hanks, but this should also make a great project for the legendary director. I would be really coo  if he could bring back some of that magic that he had when making his earlier films like E.T. This new movie seems like it would alow him to do that.

Discarded E.T. Atari Games Found in Landfill - The Legend is True

Who would have thought that digging up millions of E.T. video game cartridges out of a New Mexico landfill would have been such big news. A few months ago it was reported that writer Zak Penn (X-Men 2, Avengers, Incident At Loch Ness) would be directing a documentary for Xbox that tells the story about Atari's 1993 E.T. video game, it's failure, and if the legend about them burying millions of copies of it in a New Mexico landfill was true. There's been a lot of speculation about the facts of this story over the years, but it turns out one of the most infamous urban legends in video games is true.

Penn and his documentary film crew went out to the landfill yesterday to excavate it, and they found the games. It's still unclear whether or not there are actually millions of copies down there. Apparently they've found hundreds so far, but they are still digging so we'll eventually see how many they actually pull out the there.

So… what are they going to do with all these game cartridges now that they've dug them up? Test them to see if they are still playable? Put them in storage? Donate them to museums? Sell them on eBay? I guess they could always just throw them back away.

Here's a little more background information on the Atari and the game that disgraced the company.

Atari thought it would achieve high sales figures based on its connection with the film, which was extremely popular throughout the world. Negotiations to secure the rights to make the game ended in late July 1982, giving Warshaw only five and a half weeks to develop the game in time for the 1982 Christmas season. The result is often cited as one of the worst video games released and was one of the biggest commercial failures in video gaming history. The game's commercial failure and resulting effects on Atari are frequently cited as a contributing factor to the video game industry crash of 1983.

E.T. is frequently cited as a contributing factor to Atari's massive financial losses during 1983 and 1984. It is speculated that as a result of overproduction and returns, millions of unsold cartridges were buried in an Alamogordo, New Mexico landfill.

This whole thing seems absolutely pointless. I don't know why I think this is so interesting and cool, but I do!

Zack Snyder Officially Directing JUSTICE LEAGUE

zack-snyder-officially-directing-justice-league

It should come as no surprise that  Zack Snyder has signed on to direct Justice League for Warner Bros., but it's official now. The news comes from The Wall Street Journal in an interview with the studios president of worldwide production, Greg Silverman, who explains:

"It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League."

Snyder is currently in the process of developing Batman Vs. Superman, and that's looking like it's already going to be somewhat of a Justice League movie. Henry Cavill is reprising his role of Superman,  Ben Affleck is on board as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It was also recently announced that Cyborg would be included in the film. I can't help but think that we'll see a few other characters introduced in the Batman Vs. Superman as well. Those could include Aquaman, Flash and Green Lantern. If not, then we'll see them in the Justice League

The script is currently in development at the studio, and it doesn't look like it will released before 2018. So we've got a long way to go. The studio is also hoping that this will help launch a series of spin-off films for many of the characters. Wonder Woman was specifically pointed out by Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing, who said,

“That is our hope. With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her."

They should have made that Wonder Woman movie a long time ago when Joss Whedon wrote the script. That was a major missed opportunity. As for Snyder directing Justice League, I was disappointed with what he did with Man of Steel. I hope Batman Vs. Superman is good, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I'll see what he does with that before I let any excitement start seeping in for Justice League

Bitter Sweet Animated Short Film - LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

emotive-animated-short-film-life-is-beautiful

Today's animated short film was written and directed by Ben Brand, and its a wonderfully animated film with a thought provoking premise. It tells a bitter sweet story that deals with some heavy subject matter that the director explains in the description below. The short is inspired by his own personal beliefs of the afterlife that you may or may not share. Regardless of what your beliefs on this subject matter are though, it's still worth checking out.

Anton may be done with life, but life ain’t done with Anton. In his convincing decision to change his measly existence he discovers the real greatness of life.

The question what will happen after we die is one that I, and many others on this world, ask myself on a regular basis. Will this transition to a next existence, which some of us have lived our whole life for, be a disappointment or could there even be nothing? Of course I also can’t give you an answer, but I can try through showing ' Life is Beautiful '.

The idea behind 'Life is Beautiful' is to show the parallels between faith in Heaven & Hell and my personal belief in reincarnation. After death we all leave our body and our energy or spirit travels further to a next place. I do believe in the existence of a heaven and hell, only not in a "Heaven" above the clouds or a "hell" deep underground. I think both are here on Earth, it just depends on what you make of life.

Although topics like suicide and the afterlife maybe heavy, the film is supposed to be a funny, tragicomic film for young and old. Anton’s situation maybe very sad, but the playful design make it light and funny. I think you can compare it to the characters in the films of the Coen Brothers. These are often plagued by their appearance, the situation and the way they are portrayed. While being entertained, you feel sorry for them at the same time.

The short was made in support of the dutch filmfund and the NTR. It's part of the NTR SHORT! competition, and it premiered at the Dutch Film festival 2013 in Utrecht.
