Jessica Chastain Wanted for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5

Paramount Pictures, director Christopher McQuarrie, and star Tom Cruise are in the process of getting Mission: Impossible 5 into production. According to the Schmoes Know they may have found their female lead as they're looking at casting Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) to star alongside Cruise in the movie. The site this news comes from seems to have a solid track record for scoops, but we are still going to treat it as a rumor for now.

They say, "a very trusted source of ours close to the production of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 are saying that the filmmakers are looking to sign Jessica Chastain to star alongside Tom Cruise for an unspecified role (at the moment) but that it will indeed be a starring role. Our source goes on to say that the offer is out to Miss Chastain to become Tom Cruise’s right hand woman; whether that means as a love interest or a fellow agent, we don’t know the specifics yet."

Chastain is an amazingly talented actress, and I would love it if this news ended up being true. It would be fun to see her take on a role that thrusts her into the a big budget action-adventure film like this.

Ken Trailer for STREET FIGHTER: ASSASSIN'S FIST Web-Series

Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 4.11.30 PM.png

Last week Machinima released a Ryu themed trailer for their upcoming web-series Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. Today we have a trailer focused on the character Ken, and it gives us a little background him. It also features Ken sparring with Ryu, and at the end of the trailer he even yells out "Shoryuken!" with all of his might, and it's pretty fantastic. This looks like it really could be a fun series.

Assassin's Fist is the translation of 'Ansatsuken' the arcane Japanese lethal Martial Arts style of which Gouken, Gouki/Akuma Ryu and Ken are all exponents.

Through the coming of age story of Ryu & Ken, we are shown the back story of some of the game's most iconic characters, and over the course of the series we will see how the past, present, and future of all of those characters are intertwined, as the battle to become Ansatsuken Master threatens to tear apart another generation of brothers.

The series is set to debut on the Machinima youtube channel in May 2014, before hitting TV, On-demand, and DVD/Blu-ray.

Let's Be Cops looks like it's going to be a great and funny flick. We previously brought you a hilarious red-band trailer for the film that you can check out here if you want. Today we bring you the theatrical version to share with you without all of the silly vulgarity. It's still a great trailer though! The movie stars Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson, who both from FOX's New Girl, and I've got high hopes for this movie.

The story follows two struggling pals who "dress up as police officers for a costume party and become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted 'heroes' get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line."

The film also stars Rob Riggle, Nina Dobrev, James D’Arcy and Andy Garcia. It will be released in theaters on August 13th.

We've seen a lot of Frozen fan art and musical parodies of the music over the last few months. It's something we would expect to see from a huge Disney movie. But, this animated video of of the Frozen characters dancing to the beat of Michael Jackson's thriller is so awesomely absurd that I can't help but love it. The video comes from YouTuber NostalgicFangirl, and I hope you enjoy it. This should have been included in the movie as an after credits scene. Thanks to Inside the Magic for the tip!

According do Deadline, CBS has tapped Meg Ryan to voice the future Sally in the same way  Bob Saget did for How I Met Your Mother. Ryan is a great actress and has a distinctive and pleasant voice and as she would never appear on screen this would be a pretty sweet gig. How Does Disney Turn Boba Fett into a Hero?

how-does-disney-turn-boba-fett-into-a-hero

We know that Disney and Lucasfilm are developing several Star Wars spin-off films for individual characters in the universe. None of them have been officially announced yet, but it's a good bet that everyone's favorite intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett is one of them.

Now, Boba Fett is a deadly menacing character that you don't want to cross. He's a villain in the Star Wars universe, and is also one of the greatest villains ever created for film. I think it's safe to assume that all Star Wars fan love him, and that's because he's a freakin' badass.

There's a rumor going around that Disney and Lucasfilm have been discussing the character, and that they don't know how to adapt him for the big screen. Why? Because he is considered a dark and deadly individual, and Disney isn't known for their "Dark" and "Deadly" movies. Here is what MakingStarWars.net reports was discussed in a recent "secret" meeting.

"Lucasfilm wants Boba Fett to remain menacing and scary but we have to make him the hero of the film and it is a real challenge."

There's no guarantee that this statement is true, but it does raise an interesting concern for the studio. This is something that the studios are going to have to deal with if they do give the character his own film. We already have a backstory for the character given to us in the Star Wars prequel. Part of that included watching his dad's head get cut off by Mace Windu. That's something that'll screw a kid up! There's so much that happened between then and Empire Strikes Back though to work with, and the sky's the limit to what kind of story that they want tell.

I don't think it would be that hard to make him an anti-hero. He's a bounty hunter, so he would take a job from anyone for money. They all don't necessarily have to bad. For example, what if he found himself in a situation that involves finding a little kid who was kidnapped, and hunting down the kidnappers. Even though he's a dangerously savage character, a job like this could show us different emotions from him that we've never seen before. Maybe he could relate to what the kid is going through, with his own past experiences. This is just one example of several examples that could be used to bring some humanity into the character, and still be able to keep him threatening.

Hell, Disney seems ok with making villain movies anyway! They have Maleficent coming out, as well as a Cruella DaVille film in development, and even Wreck-it-Ralph was a bad guy… sort of. I personally think that Maleficent is one of the most insane and evil villains ever though, so if they can give that character a movie, I don't see why they couldn't find a way to deal with the Fett. Maleficent is way a darker character than Fett is, but Fett is definitely cooler.

The movie is either being written by Simon Kinberg or Lawrence Kasdan. Either way, I'm sure they are collaborating with each other though on whatever Star Wars projects they have been given to work on. If they haven't been able to figure out how to make a Boba Fett movie yet, I'm sure they will. And when they do I'm confident that they will keep that hardcore evilness within him. That's something you just can't take away from Fett. if they do the fans will tear Disney and Lucasfilm apart. They don't want to piss off the fans.

Do you have any ideas of how to handle Boba Fett in a Disney spin-off movie?

Check out this 1993 Ford Explorer that was converted into into one of the Jurassic Park Ford Explorers that we saw in the film. It was created by Reddit user scoodidabop, and I think it turned out to be really cool, even with all that 1993 retro tech. I'd personally rather have the 1993 Jurassic Park Jeeps. I'm just more a Jeep guy. Wouldn't it be cool to have a whole fleet of Jurassic Park vehicles!? Wow… I just made that my new goal in life.

Holy crap! You've got to watch this trailer for an insane looking Japanese film called Jellyfish Eyes! This is the directorial debut of Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, and damn... it looks ridiculously fantastic! The sci-fi fantasy adventure is packed full of unique visuals with all kinds of cool looking creatures. The movie includes a fun combination of live-action and animation, and I think most of you will like what you see.

The film tells the story of Masashi, "a young boy who moves to a sleepy town in the Japanese countryside with his mother in the wake of a natural disaster. After returning home from his new elementary school one day, Masashi discovers a flying jellyfish-like creature whom he befriends and names Kurage-bo. Masashi soon discovers that all his classmates have similarly magical pets, known as F.R.I.E.N.D.s, which are controlled by electronic devices that the children use to battle one another. Despite their playful appearances, however, these F.R.I.E.N.D.s turn out to be part of a sinister plot."

I've never really been a big fan of the anime Sailor Moon. In fact I don't think I've ever seen an episode of the series. But, we came across this cool set of Sailor Moon fan art that reimagines the characters as the Avengers. The series was created by artist jei-shepard, and they consist of Sailor Moon as Captain America, Sailor Mars as Hawkeye, Sailor Venus as Black Widow, Sailor Jupiter as Thor, and Sailor Mercury as Iron Man.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has given us a first look at their latest short film production, Feast. We have a title design above and a piece of teasing concept art below. I enjoy the short films that Disney has released, and I'm sure this one will make Disney animation fans happy. Here's a brief synopsis:

Feast is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share.

Sounds like a charmingly heartwarming story concept. The film is being directed by Patrick Osborne, who was head of animation on films such as Paperman as well as an animator on Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled and Bolt. Feast will make its world premiere at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on June 10th 2014. As for when we'll get to see it, it will be attached to Marvel and Disney first animated feature Big Hero 6 which will be released on November 7th 2014.

Lucasfilm Addresses STAR WARS Expanded Universe and its use in their Projects

lucasfilm-adresses-star-wars-expanded-universe-and-its-use-in-their-projects

Lucasfilm has released a statement that officially addresses the Star Wars Expanded Universe. They say that the EU will not be used in the films, games, TV shows and other franchise products that are currently being developed. But, that can draw pieces from the EU if they want to. Below you'll find a full press release from StarWars.com, and a video you can watch focuses on the history of expanded universe.

For over 35 years, the Expanded Universe has enriched the Star Wars experience for fans seeking to continue the adventure beyond what is seen on the screen. When he created Star Wars, George Lucas built a universe that sparked the imagination, and inspired others to create. He opened up that universe to be a creative space for other people to tell their own tales. This became the Expanded Universe, or EU, of comics, novels, videogames, and more.

While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.

Now, with an exciting future filled with new cinematic installments of Star Wars, all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected. Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development.

“We have an unprecedented slate of new Star Wars entertainment on the horizon,” said Kennedy. “We’re set to bring Star Wars back to the big screen, and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging. This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before.”

In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded. Creators of new Star Wars entertainment have full access to the rich content of the Expanded Universe. For example, elements of the EU are included in Star Wars Rebels. The Inquisitor, the Imperial Security Bureau, and Sienar Fleet Systems are story elements in the new animated series, and all these ideas find their origins in roleplaying game material published in the 1980s.

Demand for past tales of the Expanded Universe will keep them in print, presented under the new Legends banner.

On the screen, the first new canon to appear will be Star Wars Rebels. In print, the first new books to come from this creative collaboration include novels from Del Rey Books. First to be announced, John Jackson Miller is writing a novel that precedes the events of Star Wars Rebelsand offers insight into a key character’s backstory, with input directly from executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman.

And this is just the beginning of a creatively aligned program of Star Wars storytelling created by the collaboration of incredibly talented people united by their love of that galaxy far, far away….

Just in case you were wondering what the Forrest Gump opening title sequence would look like if it were directed by Wes Anderson, wonder no longer. I really enjoy the films that Anderson makes, and it's always great to see a fun parody like this. The opening sequence was shot by Louis Paquet, and I wish it wouldn't have ended at the end of the titles. I would have loved to see how the rest film turned in this classic Anderson style. Marvel has released a new high-resolution photo from James Gunn's Guardians of The Galaxy featuring Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) inspecting a floating orb that he is going to attempt to steal. We already know what happens after this shot thanks to a clip that was released a couple weeks ago. In case you missed it click here, it's definitely worth checking out. This looks like such a fun movie, and as much as I loved both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers, this movie might actually end up being more epic than those two films combined. I'm deadly serious about that by the way! This movie looks epic. It's got the space sci-fi factor, cool looking worlds, a great cast of colorful misfit characters that includes a deadly gun-toting raccoon.  I have a feeling this movie is going to surprise a lot of people. It comes out on August 1st, 2014, and I can't wait!

Early STAR WARS Storyboard Are Familiar Yet So Bizarre

To promote the upcoming book Star Wars Storyboards: The Original  Trilogy early storyboards for the film trilogy have been released. The boards show the work of artist Alex Tavoularis, Joe Johnston, and Ivan Beddoes. The images look familiar but look like some kind of foreign knockoff. Depending on the production storyboards can be really basic and these have more detail than your average one. The key production art by illustrator Ralph McQuarrie is the closest to the final productions look, but it's interesting to see how much of the look was established in these early boards.

mad-max-video-game-has-2-new-trailers

Two new trailers have been released for the new Mad Max video game, to remind you that it's on the way. The game is being developed by Sony and developer Avalanche Studios, and I think it could be a lot of fun. Of course, that's coming from a huge fan of the Mad Max film franchise. The first trailer focuses on the vehicle that Max will be causing destruction in while you're playing him in the game. The car is called the Magnum Opus. The other trailer focuses on the gameplay, and it's called Soul of a Man.

This is going to be an open world, third-person action title in which gamers will play as Mad Max, "a lone warrior who must embark on a perilous journey after his Interceptor is stolen by a deadly gang of marauders. A reluctant hero with an instinct for survival, Max wants nothing more than to leave the madness behind and find solace in the storied 'Plains of Silence.'"

Mad Max is scheduled to be released later this year on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

Description of New Trailer for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-team.jpg

I know we would all rather be watching the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy instead of reading about it, but I'm so excited for the movie that I'll take what I can get! Our friends at Latino-Review had the opportunity to see the upcoming trailer for the film recently, and they have a very detailed description of it. There's no word on when this second trailer for the film will be released, but I'll impatiently sit here in front of my computer for as long as it takes until it's released.

If you want to spoil it for yourself… here ya go!

Shots of Star Lord in his mask, full outfit, probably from the opening we’ve seen since early on. “My name is Peter Quill” says Chris Pratt over a nice hero shot, then we cut back to Dijimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer and two of his soldiers pointing guns directly at the camera. “But there’s one other name you might know me by...Star Lord.”

Replay of the “Who?”/”Come on, man, Star Lord” scene you’ve already learned to love. Quill gives up, saying “Forget it,” then Korath shoots at him. Quill falls backwards, dodging the shot that explodes the back wall of the chamber they're in. Without getting up, Quill hits his rocket boots and shoots out into the wilderness, escaping.

Some quick shots of Star Lord being chased through a blue-ish, rocky planet with his mask on as Korath and his men chase him, shooting. Star Lord takes a huge space-leap and we speed ramp down until-

MARVEL LOGO!

Things speed up here and there’s lot’s of new stuff, so I’ll try to get as much as possible, but - wow, this movie looks bigger and better all the time.

Star Lord’s ship, the Milano, speeds towards a barren looking planet. We cut to the Guardians walking through some sort of space-port or bar with Zoe Saldana’s Gamorra in the lead. Peter Quill voice overs:

“So here we are: A thief” - Star Lord stands in front of a cloud outside and tosses the ORB into the air and catches it. It looks like part of the movie where the MacGuffin chase favors the Guardians.

“Two Criminals” - Rocket Racoon hefts what looks like a four-barrell rocket launcher, cocks it and aims it through the site. Groot throws a puny humanoid.

“An Assassin” - Gamora turns, looking hot and green, then we see a quick cut of her fighting who I hope to be Nebula (Karen Gillian).

“And a maniac” - Hello DRAX! Push in on David Bautista from the shoulders up, full make-up, scowling as something explodes behind him. Quick cut of Drax doing a mid-air punch on someone, cut of Drax head-butting a dude.

“But we’re not going to stand by while evil wipes out the galaxy.” Shot of Ronan the Accuser’s ship. Shot of a hooded Lee Pace as Ronin walking towards the camera. Close up shot of someone’s fist closing around a glowing red energy source. The fist suddenly CLENCHES and we cut to an exterior explosion and a crowd of aliens and humanoids running from it (from back when they shot on the Millennium bridge for all to see, it looks like).

The voiceover meets the scene the lines are from as Quill adresses everyone inside the Milano. “I guess we’re stuck together- ” We see a shot of Drax holding the Orb/Macguffin - “Partners.”

Title: THIS AUGUST

Glenn Close’s Nova Prime Rael takes the next line over a shot of a ship descending over a lush planet with a pattern of rivers and streets that looks vaguely like a compass rose. Probably the Nova Corps planet? As Close is still talking, we also see Ronan kneeling in the center of a circular stone pattern with his hammer resting on the floor beside him: “Are you telling me, the fate of 12 billion people, is in the hands of these thugs?”

We see Glenn Close looking pissed in a meeting with some uniformed Nova Corps behind her, elsewhere Ronan stands and raises his hammer high into the air, Ronan’s ship releases tons of fighters over the lush planet, people run from explosions, Ronan is attacking this populace.

An iris-styled door in a spaceship opens and the Guardians stride out, confidently. Close on Rocket as he cocks a gun that is the same size he is. We push in on his face and BRADLEY COOPER’S VOICE COMES OUT: “Oh…..yeah!” Rocket loves his big gun.

Smash cut to the shot of Rocket firing off Groot’s shoulder in the prison that we’ve already seen. A new close up of a snarling Rocket as he blasts something. Gamora, in her prison yellows, jumps and kicks a guy with both feet, landing in the “Black Widow landing pose where you flip your hair back when you look up.” Peter Quill draws both his pistols at once and fires into the camera.

Title:

ALL HEROES.

Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit In the Sky” starts to add the “Hooked on a Feeling” pace to the edit.

Quill, Gamora, Drax and Rocket - all in prison yellows, but Rocket and Quill have guns, so obviously towards the end of their escape strike a nonchalant pose as Groot JUMPS from another level and lands behind them, completing the misfit hero shot. A shot of Quill hitting someone, a shot of the Milano in colorful, magnificent fantasy space. They’re flying towards an Alien Skull the size of a PLANET.

We see the Guardians in the cockpit looking out at the planet-head and Rocket says: “Whoa,” genuinely impressed.

Title: START SOMEWHERE

Groot fights something his own size, but it doesn’t seem to matter, because Groot grabs this alien BY HIS HEAD with a single palm, picks him up, then slams his back down against the ground.

Ronan twists his hammer and it fires blue energy like Korath’s weapons in the beginning. Drax brandishes two curved blades. Another EXPLOSION - but this one is more wonderous.

Remember in John Carter when they got that cave to magically show them the universe or whatever (or the scene in Prometheus where Michael Fassbender looks at planet Earth on the 3D Map)? We get a shot like that of all the Guardians looking up at floating points of yellow light that could be a star-system map. Groot’s left hand is raised in the air and a lot of the yellow dots seem to be amassing around the end of it. It looks really cool and I have no idea what’s happening.

Chris Pratt again: “I look around, and you know what I see? Losers” Shots of the Guardians sitting around the Milano, not liking being called losers. “-But life is giving us a chance.”

Star Lord straps something that looks like a rocket to his leg and puts on his long coat in heroic motions cut to the beat of the song.

Drax asks: “To do what?”

Quill: “Something good…”

An ADORABLE shot of Groot gently giving a white flower to a girl who smiles at him. Gamora and Drax put their respective sharp weapons in their hip holsters.

“...something bad…” A topless Gamora from behind. Quill puts his shirt on.

Quill in the cockpit of the Milano:  “...bit-o-both.”

Then more Rocket: “I don’t like the h----- order on that model ------ anyway.” I’m sure this will be really funny, but right now it’s very improperly mixed.  The ------ parts were garbled.

Quick cut to raging Drax swinging his knife in slow motion. Cut to a badass shot where Nebula gets right up in Gamora’s face and looms over her. Cut: there’s a HUGE explosion and something is flying out of it right towards the camera. That something gets closer and it’s a little space-ship, that ship gets closer and we see Rocket piloting it, SNEERING WITH MALICE.

Quick cut time:

Cut to a shot of Ronan, with his hammer in one hand and choking Drax with the other, Beneicio Del Toro’s Collector in front of a orange background, Quill leans into Gamora for a kiss, Drax shakes both his blades above his head as we see him face a sky full of oncoming bad-guy ships. A pan around Groot. Gamora screams and reaches out for someone’s hand-----!

Music cuts out.

Close on a tape deck as a woody- finger presses play on the cassette.

Reverse to see a curious Groot, all alone in this room on the Milano. His eyes go wide as the cassette spins up. Groot leans in, curious, then “Hooked on a Feeling” suddenly starts, causing Groot to recoil in surprise. Groot looks SO CONFUSED.

Title: CHRIS PRATT

Hero shot you've seen.

Title: ZOE SALDANA

Hero shot you've seen.

DAVE BAUTISTA

Hero shot you've seen.

FEATURING VIN DIESEL AS GROOT

Shot of Groot, who suddenly grows branches on his back like some sort of wood porcupine. Then a shot of Drax looking at Groot who SAYS!!!!!!!! “I’m Groot.” Sounds great. It’s gentle and it’s hard to tell if he’s saying “I am” or “I’m” or some hybrid of both, but - you guys - this is going to work. Groot expresses emotion wonderfully.

Oh yeah, and the other great CG character…

BRADLEY COOPER AS ROCKET

Rocket in his prison yellows: ‘I’m just gettin’ started!” Cut to him walking down a corridor with the rest of the Guardians, holding a huge gun and adjusting the fabric around his crotch. There’s certainly a little bulge. Rocket is a boy Raccoon.

Wider-shot of Rocket, Quill, Gamora and Drax. walking down that same corridor and John C Reilly’s Nova Corp voiceover comes in: “They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy...”

Music cuts out and we’re looking at John C Reilly in formal Nova Corps dress (more like Glenn Closes’ outfit, not the outfit he’s wearing in the line-up clip). Reilly: “This might not be the best idea.”

Back to that wide corridor shot, they’re walking towards us in slow motion and Groot rounds the corner from another part of the ship and joins the team in a forceful walk as we hear AHHHHHHHHHHHH-MMMMM HOOKED ON A FEELIN’!

Cut to the title. The beautiful, yellow, angular title.

Then Rocket goes “HAAAAAAAAAA!” from the cockpit of his ship and leans forward on the throttle as he BLASTS into an air battle against Ronan against blue sky.

End trailer.

Everytime a see a piece of art featuring these two characters, I just want to see a movie that focuses on just the two of them in some kind of crazy comedy adventure! Jason Voorhees has been brutally killing people on the big screen for years, but he's taking his machete with him to slash his way on to the small screen. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment have come together to produce a new hourlong dramatic series for Friday the 13th that's based on the characters and settings of Friday The 13th.

Sean S. Cunningham, the director of the original 1980 film will serve as executive producer on the new slasher series. Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) are set to write it and according to Deadline the story re-imagines "Jason in multiple time periods." It will be interesting to see what they actually mean by that, and how the idea is implemented into the series.

The series is take place in the present day and it will focus on "the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed. As you know the original was took place at summer camp that was closed because of the drowning of an child. A group of  counselors try to open it back up, but they start being murdered one-by-one.

Cunningham had this to say in a statement:

"Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide."

Horror Inc. president Robert Barsamian added:

“Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

As a huge fan of the original films, I'm actually looking forward to this. I'm more excited about this than seeing any more movies made.

Check out this cool series of NBA logos that have been redesigned with Pokemon themed designs. I don't know how many Pokemon fans watch basketball, or how many basketball fans watch Pokemon, but if you are either of those then today is your lucky day! The logo designs were created by Micah Coles.
