Danny Boyle and Leonardo DiCaprio to Team up for STEVE JOBS Biopic?

danny-boyle-and-leonardo-dicaprio-to-team-up-for-steve-jobs-biopic

Last week David Fincher dropped out of negotiations for Sony Pictures' Steve Jobs biopic. He and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin would have made an amazing team, but the studio is moving forward and looking to hire a new director. According to THR, that director might be Slumdog Millionaire and Sunshine director Danny Boyle, and apparently he's already reached out to Leonardo DiCaprio to possibly star in the film. The two talents previously worked together on The Beach.

There are no official deals set in place, but this would make a very interesting team. I like the idea of Fincher and Christian Bale making the movie more, though. It's not that I don't like Boyle's work because I do! I absolutely love it, but it's hard to imagine his kind of directing style for a movie like this. I also think DiCaprio is talented as hell, but I can't see him playing Jobs at all. That casting just doesn't make sense to me, but let's just see where this all goes.

The studio is apparently looking to get this film into production soon, and at this point it doesn't look like Fincher will be coming back to the negotiation table. It's a shame, but at least it looks like they might very well be getting an Academy Award-winning director to bring Jobs life to the big screen. I'm sure if he takes the gig, he'll give us a great film. I just really wanted Fincher to do it. I'll get over it.

The biopic is based on Walter Isaacson's bestselling authorized biography. That book was based on more than 40 interviews that the author had with Jobs, as well as interviews with friends, family, and colleagues.

The film itself is said to consist of three long scenes that feature the launches of some of Apple's most buzzed-about product launches, including the Mac, NeXT (after Jobs had left Apple), and the iPod.

What do you think about this potential team-up?

TERMINATOR: GENESIS Officially Starts Shooting

After all these years spent trying to get a new Terminator film off the ground, the first film in a planned new trilogy has started shooting. Skydance Productions posted the photo above of the first slate for Terminator: Genesis. It came along with the following message:

::SKYNET preparation routines complete.
::Initialization sequence complete.
::Reboot initiating in 03m00s.

The film is being directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor, and it stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung-hun Lee, Michael Gladis, Sandrine Holt, and Laeta Kalogridis.

I really do like the cast of the film, and all of the rumors I've heard about the story have sounded cool. The idea is that it will weave together several ideas from the previous Terminator movies, and in the process give fans a fresh new story about Skynet's uprising and its plan to wage war on mankind. The release date for the movie is July 1st, 2015.

New TV Spot for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - "You Wanna Fight!"

More new footage is featured in the latest trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, including our hero calling out Green Goblin for a fight. Obviously, as we've in the tons of other footage Sony has released, they do, and it looks like it's going to be a exciting battle. It's going to be interesting to see what the outcomes of these climactic fights will be, because with a Sinister Six movie in the works, these villains could very well be back for more action. Do you think that Spidey will kill either Electro or Green Goblin? Or do you think they will both survive to fight another day? The movie will be released in theaters on May 2nd.

SPLINTER CELL: ECHOES on the Way from Dynamite Entertainment

Previously released as part of the Splinter Cell Blacklist collector's edition, Splinter Cell: Echoes is now coming out as a 4 part miniseries book from Ubisoft and Dynamite Entertainment, home of Red Sonja, Green Hornet, Vamperiella, and many others. The book is filling in the gaps between Conviction and Blacklist, and revolves around a new terrorist organization called KROWE. Apparently KROWE's Netflix subscription ran out, so they have resorted to causing trouble, and it's up to Sam to stop them.

Yeah, that's probably not the reason why, but if that ends up being the big twist, you heard it here first!

The series is being written by Nathan Edmondson, who is also writing Marvel's current Black Widow series, and as a current reader of that book, Mr. Edmondson is a perfect fit for Sam Fisher. On art duties for Echoes is Marc Laming, whose work includes Exile on the Planet of the Apes, Rinse, etc, and you can catch a glimpse of his stellar artwork in the preview images below. His work seems to fit Sam and the world he lives in very well, and I look forward to seeing more of it when Echoes Issue 1 releases on July 2nd.

Harley Quinn Fan Film - RED QUEEN

0

Here is a really cool fan film that focuses on Harley Quinn. It's called Red Queen, and it was directed by Salim. The short came along with the following description:

Set inside the mind of Harley Quinn as her guilt forces a confrontation with her original persona.

I really enjoyed watching this. The tone is perfect for what it is, and I liked the actress they got to play the lead role, Sheridyn Fisher. I also thought the way The Joker was portrayed was really well done. This team of people did a great job putting this film together. It looks like we will get another film in the series, as they call this one "Episode One." I hope so, because I'm looking forward to it.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks Team Up for Cold War Thriller

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks work really well together, and they tend to develop amazing projects together. Some of those projects include Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and The Pacific. They are teaming up again to bring us a film set during the Cold War. Hanks is attached to star in the project, and Spielberg is in talks to direct.

The film will be based on the true story revolving around "James Donovan (Hanks), a prominent American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to slip behind the Iron Curtain to negotiate the release of a pilot captured when his U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russia."

I'd love to see Hanks and Spielberg work together again, and I don't see why they wouldn't on a project like this. Spielberg has yet to choose his next project and has been flirting with the sci-fi film Robopocalypse and the historical drama Montezuma. Whatever project he does next, I hope that Spielberg and Hanks eventually get around to making this Cold War thriller because you know it will be great.

video-supercut-for-tattoos-in-movies

A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article about some of the most memorable tattoos in film. Thanks to YouTuber TastefullyOffensive, we have a video supercut called "The Mark of an Actor" showcasing 47 tattoos that have appeared in movies over the years.

A visual history of tattoos in movies from 1955 through the present. Entries selected on the basis of artistic merit, plot importance, comedy, color, actor, design, genre, influence, and general badassery. Honorable mentions and deliberate omits included at the end.

Would you ever tattoo of any of the these on you? If so, which ones?

Joss Whedon's latest film In Your Eyes has been released on Vimeo for you to watch for the low price of $5. Whedon wrote and produced the film that is described as a "timeless boy-meets-girl story, wrapped in a supernatural world." I haven't had to time to watch it yet, but I definitely will. Judging by clip we posted this weekend, it looks like a solid start to great film. Most of the people who have seen the film so far are praising it. You can watch the clip first to help you decide if you want to spend five bucks on it or not.

Epic ’80s Style Skate Battle for Bodacious Babes

Who doesn’t love an epic, overdramatic, ‘80s sports battle? I think every other film that came out of that era fit that bill. “Locals Only, Bro. No Kooks!” transports you back to the 1980s when the clothes were bright and baggy, the babes were bodacious, the boards were flat and wide, and street skating was still in its infancy.

The Back Forty Bros hit the beach for a battle of epic proportions. Rivals crews duke it out on boards while the affections of some bodacious babes hang in the balance!

The short film stars current street skating legends Marc Johnson, Kenny Anderson, Danny Montoya, Chris Roberts, and more. It’s funny seeing these amazingly talented skateboarders holding back so much to perform tricks that are either completely obsolete or overly simplistic by today’s standards.

Photo of Paul Walker's Brothers on FAST AND FURIOUS 7 Set

Vin Diesel posted this photo of himself with two of Paul Walker's brothers who are on the set of Fast and Furious 7 to help them finish the film. Caleb and Cody Walker will serve as stand-in's for Paul on the film. It's a pretty cool way for them to be able to pay tribute to their brother. Each of them definitely share certain features with their brother. If you were to merge the two together, they would look just like him. The photo came along with the following note:

When I heard the news, I left the production, grabbed a plane and took my family and Michelle back to LA... drove directly to his parent's house...

His Father said, Paul loved you Vin... I awkwardly and nervously said, aw come on... then he said... you don't have to get along every second to love each other... so true.

P.s. After spending time with his biological brothers, I must say to the parents, you raised some great kids.

The movie opens on April 10th, 2015.

Watch the New Trailer for THE GIVER

The Giver doesn’t come out for almost four months, and the anticipation is starting to get to me. In their latest effort to drive me crazy,  the Weinstein Company has released a new sixty second trailer for the film. I don’t think there’s any new footage, but this time they have gotten the tone just right. I had my doubts for awhile after the first trailer, but they have managed to convince me. I’ve even come around on the Taylor Swift casting decision. I think she’ll do just fine as Rosemary. Plus, can anyone play grumpy/wise like Jeff Bridges can? The answer is no. No, they cannot.

The Giver will be in theaters August 15, 2014. It is directed by Phillip Noyce and also stars Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Meryl Streep, Cameron Monaghan, and Odeya Rush. It hits U.S. theaters on August 15.

Martin Scorsese Talks Everything Movies on DINNER FOR FIVE

0

Back in the day (mostly) before he was a big time director, Jon Favreau hosted a show on IFC called Dinner for Five. It was a pretty simple concept: Favreau and four guests — a mix of actors, writers, directors, and comedians — would eat dinner and shoot the bull, and then they would cut the best bits into a 30 minute episode. It was great. The casual atmosphere made everyone more candid and relaxed than they might be on a traditional talk show, plus they might be drunk. Dinner for Five is how I know that Frank Darabont lived above Tom Cruise’s garage to write Mission Impossible 3, and he loved it. (Darabont wrote the first draft. He's not credited, but in the same episode he talks about how much he hates the WGA's rules for writing credits.) Also, in the Season 2 premiere a Daredevil era Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner appear on the show and she is just so clearly in love with him it is amazing. (Watch her threaten to kick Kevin Smith's ass for making fun of him at the 16:10 mark here.)

This special episode is nothing like that. There is no restaurant, food, or booze, and there is an audience. This is really more like a less pretentious Inside the Actor’s Studio. This is just Jon Favreau on a stage with Martin Scorsese. And while Favreau is the host and he guides the conversation, he (smartly) just lets Scorsese talk. About everything. About story vs. plot, about using songs instead of score, about technical aspects of his films. And he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of film and can list and describe specific scenes that influenced his work. If you didn’t already think that Martin Scorsese was frighteningly intelligent about movies, you will after you watch this interview. I’m not going to give you a summary of the various topics. You should just watch the whole thing, and you can, right here.

EDGE OF TOMORROW Poster — Live. Die. Repeat.

We have a new poster for Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. They are both geared up in their powered exoskeletons, Blunt is wielding a huge sword, and the pattern of the movie, "Live. Die. Repeat." is scrawled across the center of the poster.

The footage presented at the WonderCon panel was larger in scope than anything that has been seen in the trailers so far. I was looking forward to this movie, but now I'm just itching to watch it. The style and scale of the action mixed with the great pair of lead actors have moved it to the #2 slot for my most anticipated movies this summer behind Godzilla.

You can "Sit. Watch. Repeat." Edge of Tomorrow in theaters June 6th (USA).

Artist Jeff Victor created this fantastic Iron Man design inspired by the animation style of anime film director Hayao Miyazaki. This is one of the coolest and oddest Iron Man fan designs that I've seen, and I love it. Victor comes up with some really fun art so make sure to check out his website to see more of his awesome creations!

STAR WARS REBELS — Interview With Composer Kevin Kiner

Star Wars Rebels composer Kevin Kiner gives an interview on the influence that composer John Williams has had on him and the score of the animated TV Series. Kiner talks about his huge guitar collection and how having been in a rock band allows him to add something different to the score of Rebels. We even get to hear some temp tracks in development and how Kiner mixes in Williams touches from the score of Star Wars: A New Hope.

Rebels acts as a bridge between the time periods of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and it's really interesting to hear some of those familiar melodies come back, in some part, into the show.

I couldn't help checking out Kiner's IMDB page and over the years he has done the score for a lot of TV and a few video games. Some notable projects other than the aforementioned are Stargate SG-1, Star Trek: Enterprise, Tremors 3, The Invisible Man (TV Series), GoldenEye 007 (video game), Nick Fury: Agent of Shield, Superboy, Hell on Wheels, and CSI: Miami.

Sorkin Calls His STEVE JOBS Script Very, Very Exciting

0
0

Yesterday we learned that with David Fincher out of the running, Danny Boyle is in talks to direct the Steve Jobs biopic penned by Aaron Sorkin. Last night at a Tribeca Film Festival event, the screenwriter sat down with Jon Favreau — the former Obama speechwriter, not the director — to discuss his work. Sorkin told the audience that he wasn’t going to break any news about the Jobs project, but he did drop a few tidbits about the script.

“It's very, very exciting,” Sorkin said. “It's not a biopic. It's not the story of Steve Jobs. It's something much different than that." It’s safe to assume that is a reference to the script’s unconventional structure: three long scenes, unfolding in real time, that take place before the launch of three major projects — the Mac, NeXT, and iPod. I don’t know how you can title your script Steve Jobs and then say it doesn’t tell the story of Steve Jobs, but it’s always nice to see a “biopic” that doesn’t follow the boilerplate rise, fall, redemption structure (check out Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould for an excellent example). Sorkin has played around with long scenes before, but they’ve always been broken up with flashbacks or cuts to other characters. If the movie is really three long, completely unbroken scenes, it'll be interesting to see what exactly plays out in those scenes. He said that Jobs was “a fascinating guy, surrounded by fascinating people, and he had very interesting relationships with the people in his life.” And all of his interesting relationships began, climaxed, and ended in the 30 minutes before his major project launches, which was a lucky break for the writer.

Whatever it actually looks like, he is happy with the script. “One of the things that really excites me about Steve Jobs is, it is one of the very few times I ended up writing what I set out to write when I began. It's an incredibly satisfying feeling." Hopefully it will be satisfying for audiences as well. Sorkin has taken a lot of guff for his highly distinctive style, and some of it is deserved, but you really can’t deny that he is a talented writer. I loved his collaboration with Fincher on The Social Network because the director’s strong vision brought something new to Sorkin’s style and really elevated it. Whether the studio goes with Boyle or someone else, I hope it’s someone just as strong as Fincher. I wouldn’t want it to play like a really long episode of one of Sorkin’s TV shows.

J. Jonah Jameson to Appear in Future AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Movie?

Spider-Man_323Pyxurz.jpg

The Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson is a great character in the Spider-Man universe, and he's a major piece missing from director Marc Webb's rebooted franchise. He employs Peter Parker to take photos for the paper. He is also not a big fan of Spider-Man.

The role was brilliantly played by J.K. Simmons in Sam Raimi's films, and it sounds like there is a chance he could come back and reprise his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or one of the other Spider-Man movies being made. While doing a live Google+ Q&A for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the director talked about the character, saying,

"I like the idea very much of him coming up in the next film. It was more easy to accept a new Spider-Man than someone who could outdo J.K. Simmons in that role. He is so iconic. That's something we've really talked about. Obviously I love that character because he poses such an interesting dilemma for Spider-Man. The answer is... I don't know, but I think you can expect to see him in the future."

He's right about not being able to replace Simmons in the part. It's hard to think of anyone who could play Jameson as well as he did. It's like he was born to play that character. It will be great to see this character back in the Spider-Man cinematic universe, so hopefully they bring him back for the next film.

You can watch the Q&A below.

Roberto Orci in Talks to Direct STAR TREK 3

star-trek-into-darkness.jpg

As you know, since J.J. Abrams took on directing duties for Star Wars: Episode VII he will not be coming back to direct Star Trek 3. Paramount Pictures has been looking to find a director to take his place, and over the year we've seen names such as G.I. Joe director Jon M. Chu and Attack the Block director Joe Cornish as potential replacements. We now have word from THR that Star Trek co-writer Roberto Orci is in talks to direct it.

This all comes along with the news that Orci and his long time writing partner Alex Kurtzman will be splitting up as a movie team. They've worked not only on the Star Trek films, but also the Transformers franchise and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The reason for the split is that they are just too busy working on their individual film projects now. Kurtzman is currently writing Venom for Sony Pictures and is looking to direct it as well.

If Orci gets the directing gig, it will be his first time directing a feature film, so there's no way to know if he's got what it takes to take on a massive film project like this. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I personally would still like to see Cornish direct Star Trek 3. I loved what he did with Attack the Block, and I want to see what he would do in the world of Star Trek.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES: Gary Oldman, Matt Reeves, Andy Serkis, and Keri Russell — Wondercon Panel

0
0

Dawn of The Planet of The Apes director Matt Reeves and stars Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, and Keri Russell were at WonderCon this year. They presented a lot of footage that's better than anything we've seen in the trailer. The effects are improved, but I also think the story of human and ape survivors trying to coexist (or not) is more interesting than Rise of The Planet of the Apes.

There is maybe a 2min scene with an ape and 2 humans that is full of so much tension that I was just squirming in my seat because I didn't know what going to happen next. The tone of Dawn is not just darker, but also more grounded, and the stakes for ape and mankind have never been higher.

After the footage — which, sadly we can't show you, Reeves talked about the story and how he became part of the project, Serkis shared that Ceasar is a more challenging role than Gollum, and Oldman and Russell spoke about how they were cast and the characters they play.

Dawn looks to improve and amplify the best parts of Rise. This movie could make you love and fear apes in the same way the very first Planet of the Apes did.

Dawn of The Planet of The Apes will club you to death emotionally on May 23rd (USA).

Han Solo in Carbonite Rugs

A couple of weeks ago, Sideshow Collectibles unveiled their life-size statue of Han Solo in Carbonite. Like me, most of you probably drooled over it at first glance but shuddered when you saw its $7,000 price tag. If you’re looking for something in a more reasonable price range, or just want something that won’t take up half of your living room, perhaps these rugs from Think Geek will do the trick. These Han Solo rugs come in either 71”x31” for $49.99, or 90.5” x 39” for $69.99. They are a perfect way to show your love for the Star Wars character… by stepping all over his frozen face.

If you don’t want a frozen Han Solo as the centerpiece of your home, but still want to show your Star Wars pride elsewhere in your house or on your person, check out the Han Solo in Carbonite door decal, light-switch, and iPhone case.
