Creepy Trailer for JAMIE MARKS IS DEAD

$

0

Just a warning, the trailer for Jamie Marks Is Dead opens with a group of teen boys peeing on another teen boy, so if that’s not your thing… Look, this movie looks creepy as hell. There is a ghost who only wears tighty whities. There are pedophiles? Maybe? And other ghosts who kill their families a lot? I don’t know, it seems like there is a lot going on in this movie, but it has a good cast led by Cameron Monaghan, who is pretty great in Shameless, and it is written and directed by Carter Smith, who made killer plants scary in The Ruins.

Here is the synopsis:

In a wintry small town, the body of a teenager named Jamie Marks is found by the river. Adam, the star of his cross-country team, becomes fascinated with Jamie-a boy nobody really knew or interacted with, except occasionally to bully him. When Jamie's ghost begins to appear both to Adam and Gracie, the classmate who discovered the body, Adam is caught between two worlds. He has a budding romance with Gracie, but he also feels a deep connection to Jamie, who brings him closer to the world of the undead.

Jamie Marks Is Dead is an adaptation of the coming of age novel One For Sorrow by Christopher Barzak. It also stars Judy Greer, Liv Tyler, Morgan Saylor, Madisen Beaty, and Noah Silver. There is no release date for this movie yet.

Quicksilver Runs Up Walls in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Photo

Director Bryan Singer must be aware of the hate being thrown his way for his interpretation of Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past. I understand that the character’s part in this film takes place decades in the past, but actor Evan Peters’ peculiar outfit and outrageous hair look downright silly after looking at the set photos of Aaron Johnson’s version of Quicksilver in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron

The last couple of things released for Days of Future Past featuring Quicksilver haven’t helped much either. The Carl’s Jr. tie-in ad has been the only glimpse of Quicksilver’s power in action. Then there’s this new still of Peters racing up a wall. While it’s 100% consistent with his abilities in the comics, I don’t think it’s the exciting image that is gonna win over unbelievers. Perhaps the new trailer, which drops April 15th, will spotlight the mutant and his superspeed abilities. Until then, let The Matrix jokes begin!

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23rd.

Roger Serrabassa has created a 10 minute supercut of the visual effects that he thinks have been the most influential in the film industry. The supercut is from movies both good and bad that have come out in the last 30 years. As with all supercuts, it is a subjective art form that relies on an overwhelming amount of source footage.

THR reports that Maisie Richardson-Sellers is being eyed for a major role in Star Wars: Episode VII. Oxford trained with mostly stage credits, she's been added to an ever growing pile of unofficial news about the movie. Rumor is that her character would be a distant relative of Obi Wan Kenobi.

What we know officially is that R2-D2 is in it, J.J. Abrams is directing, he's been working on the script with Lawrence Kasdan, they are shooting on film, they are shooting part of the movie in Pinewood Studios London, and that it will be in theaters December 18th, 2015.

Lots of semi-official news has popped up in Variety, Deadline, and THR but even those rumors have been in flux at times.

Please Mr. Abrams, give fans something official on say… May 4th, it's a Star Wars holiday, after all.

Godzilla, "King of the Monsters," is under attack by soldiers, a tank, and a .50 cal machine gun in the newest image from the movie. There is so much layered action in this single photo alone that it makes me really excited for this newest remake.

Godzilla roars into theaters May 16th (USA). We got this image via Bloody Disgusting, who got the image from Entertainment Weekly, who got the image from Warner Bros. and Legendary.

REALISTIC MARIO - Mario Attempts to Break Bricks with His Head

A couple of days ago I posted a video of Mario breaking out of the TV and into the real world, bringing the dangerous and destructive elements from the video game along with him. The video below is on the other side of the spectrum of twists on Super Mario Bros., restricting the 8-bit versions of Mario and Luigi to the physics of the real world. Suddenly, breaking bricks with your head for gold coins doesn’t go so smoothly.

The video was made by the Pete Holmes Show. If you haven’t watched the TBS show, I’m sure you have at least come across their Batman, Ex-Men or Street Fighter: Red Tape sketches. I hope Holmes and his writers continue their streak of lovingly taking geek properties and giving them a swift kick in the pants.

FOX Hoping to Make Multiple AVATAR Films

We know that James Cameron is planning at least three Avatar sequels, and Sam Worthington, Zoe Sladana, and Stephen Lang are officially signed on to reprise their roles. But according to FOX CEO Rupert Murdoch, there could be more.

In a recent interview with Fortune, he said that Fox is planning to “step up our production of major films” and has “one or two or maybe more sequels to Avatar.” The first Avatar film is set to be released in 2016, and when talking about the release date, he said,

“If we make it, it will be the first time [director] Jim Cameron’s been on time or on budget. But he’s never lost me. When he finally comes through, they’re just huge hits.”

Again, we know that Cameron is planning on making three more Avatar movies and that he will shoot them back to back. If they all do well at the box office and make billions of dollars like the studio is hoping, then I'm sure the studio will want to keep making them, and they'll give Cameron whatever he wants to do it. Of course, Cameron could always say no and a new director could take over.

First Teaser for GIRL MEETS WORLD

If you were born in the ‘80s, you probably feel like you grew up with Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World. And like all of us, Cory grew up. He and Topanga are still together, obvs, and they have a tween daughter. Wait, what? They’re old enough to have a tween daughter? Excuse me, I have to go look in the mirror and check for crow’s feet.

Anyway, ’80s kids are pleased as punch that our childhood favorites are going to be back on the screen each week on Girl Meets World, a new Disney channel show that will chart the trials and travails of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley, as she grows up, and now there’s a teaser to whet our appetite even more. It looks like a pretty standard heartwarming coming of age comedy, but the nostalgia factor will be working in its favor. (Remember when Ben and Pat did a close reading of the Boy Meets World late years theme song on our old GeekTyrant podcast? It happened.) Presumably there will also be some kids watching it, too.

Girl Meets World stars Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Danielle Fishel, Ben Savage, Corey Fogelmanis, and August Maturo. It will premiere this summer on the Disney Channel.

A decade after Boy Meets World, Cory and Topanga Matthews are married and have two children. The younger child, a daughter named Riley, faces life lessons through her family, friends, and school, as her parents did when they were younger.

Helium Harvey - Charming, Possibly Effed Up Animated Short

Depending on how you interpret this animated short, this could be a really disturbing tale. Written, directed, and animated by Daniel Savage, "Helium Harvey" follows a young child who is swept away on a magical trip across the globe after accidentally swallowing a helium balloon. Or at least that’s how I looked at the film the first watch through. Then as I pondered and rewatched it, I realized that this whimsical journey could really have been something quite chilling. Watch the short film and join me below the vid for my theory.

So, was this kid transported into a magical realm through the skies and seemingly through time? Or did this (clearly unsupervised) child just have a near death experience from choking on a balloon? At the very least, he got some bad helium, and he just tripped balls all day. All I know, is that if these events did indeed take place, then a viewing of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory — or Family Guy’s spoof of it — would have helped him through this ordeal/adventure.

Here's a new TV spot for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for you to check out along with an interview with the cast and crew of the movie in which they discuss the Sinister Six. The interview comes from MTV, and it includes some new footage from the movie as well. Everyone is asking whether or not we'll see the Sinister Six appear in the sequel, but everyone is keeping their mouths shut on that one.  I've also included some new concept art and images. It looks like illustration above was done before they made the change to Spider-Man's suit. The movie is set to be released on May 2nd.

Three New Images from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

$

A few pictures from Guardians of the Galaxy showed up in Entertainment Weekly, and while they aren’t as exciting as the trailers and clips we’ve seen, they are new. And they give us a little more info about the movie. The first photo shows the whole gang hanging out in jail, which isn’t a surprise because we’ve already seen their futuristic space mugshots, but who would have thought they wear yellow in space jail? Also, why is Star-Lord holding a prosthetic leg? I’m guessing that’s the end of their space prison riot. The third is just a picture of Chris Pratt in his costume, running toward a camera. So if you see the movie in 3D, it’ll be like he’s running right at you.

The second image is a little more interesting. It shows Pratt and Zoe Saldana as Star-Lord and Gamora, respectively, and Pratt is holding that weird metal space ball he picks up at the beginning of the trailer. I’ve double-checked this clip, and he doesn’t have the ball when he makes his escape. Since he regains it at some point, is that the MacGuffin the plot is built around? And if so, what the hell is it?

Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn and also stars Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, and Glenn Close. It hits theaters August 1, 2014.

International Trailer for Eric Bana's DELIVER US FROM EVIL

international-trailer-for-eric-banas-deliver-us-from-evil

An international trailer has been released for Eric Bana's upcoming horror film Deliver Us From Evil. I think the movie looks like it could actually be good. One thing is for sure: it's great to see Bana in a new movie. The guy is being underutilized. The story follows an unlikely cop and a priest who team up to deal with demonic possession. This is a much more traditional style trailer than the first one that was released, and it features a lot more footage.

In DELIVER US FROM EVIL, New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana), struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Edgar Ramírez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. Inspired by the book, which details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

The movie is set to be released on July 2nd.

One thing I would love to see in my lifetime is Bruce Campbell and Nathan Fillion teaming up for a movie. There's no reason why it couldn't happen, and the badassery of this photo makes my case. The photo was tweeted by Campbell with the simple caption… "Bro-mance?" Why yes it is. In fact it's a bro-mance that has the power to change the world.

Movie Review for OCULUS with Karen Gillan and Katee Sackhoff

If you like watching horror movies, then this weekend you'll have to go see the movie Oculus. I was looking forward to seeing this movie, not only because it was a horror film but because it starred Doctor Who's Karen Gillan and Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff, and I'm a big fan of both actresses! Although I thought the movie was entertaining, it did have its problems.

It took awhile for the film to build up some momentum. At first it felt like an episode of the CW series Supernatural, but about 30 minutes in things started to pick up and the movie got really good. Horror films are kind of my thing, and Oculus turned out to be a pretty disturbing film. Regardless of its faults I still had a great time watching it. It was a fun horror ride with a few cool twists and turns, some of which were predicable, but that's ok. It didn't take away from the movie going experience.

The story follows a woman (Gillan) who enlists the help of her brother (Brendon Thwaites) to prove that he is innocent of a family murder by proving that the crime was actually committed by a supernatural phenomenon. Through the course of the film we get flashbacks of what happened when they were kids, and how the family started to fall apart. One of my favorite aspects of the film is the third act when the past and the present start to crossover with each other. It was a really cool concept.

The whole story revolves around an antique mirror that apparently can't be broken, but I would have loved to actually see them try to break it. There were a few holes like that in the movie. When you see it for yourself you'll know what I'm talking about, but I don't want to spoil some of the surprises. There were just ways they could have broken that mirror that they didn't even try.

There's an evil that resides in the mirror, and even though the intent of Gillan's character was to destroy the evil, she never had a clear objective on how she was going to pull it off other than eating food, hydrating, and filming everything. Not knowing how she planned to kill this thing was the one thing that left me hanging. There were a few things she anticipated and prepared for, but in the end it really didn't matter because so much happened that she didn't anticipate.

All of the actors did a fantastic job in their roles, but the best acting in the film came from the two actors that played younger versions of Gillan and Thwaites' characters, Annalise Basso and Gerrett Ryan. They were awesome. I enjoyed every scene that they were in because of the intensity that they put into their roles.

Even though there were some things that could have been handled better when telling this story, as I said before, I thought the movie was entertaining, and it had some great, creepy and sinister moments that horror movie fans will appreciate.

If horror movies are your thing and you enjoy the adrenaline rush they give you, then I'm pretty sure that this movie that will satisfy your craving for fear.

DOCTOR WHO — POV Short Film STONE

John Smith, the creator of the must watch Doctor Who and Sherlock crossover video (watch here) has created a short about someone being pursued by the weeping angels. The interesting twist is that it's all first person perspective.

Smith had this to share about its creation:

This is my first ever CG short film. It's the culmination of about three months of work, from initial concept to final result. I had to use every single trick and technique I knew, as well as learn countless more.

Smith does some great work to keep it feeling like its not just a video game.

DIRTY WHITE BOYS Will Be GAME OF THRONES Showrunners' First Film

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have chosen their first feature film project. It will be an adaptation of the book Dirty White Boys by Stephen Hunter, and they will write, direct, and produce it at FOX. The novel follows three violent escaped convicts and the lawman who is hunting them down.

Benioff talked to Deadline about the deal and how it came together, saying:

“We’re sitting around bullsh*tting and we started talking about lines we were jealous of before it came around to the familiar topic of greatest opening lines in novels. "

Weiss continued:

"Our friend Scott Frank brought up the opening line of Dirty White Boys. To be honest, I’d never hear of the book before, even though we’d heard of Stephen Hunter’s sniper series. Scott mentioned that opening line from Dirty White Boys, and it made me go out and buy the book, and Dan bought the book, and then we got past that first line and just fell in love with it. It does grab you, the first line, and what keeps you is that the characters are so well drawn, really charismatic and awful people, so flawed. I don’t think you’ll be able to print the first line, because it’s got prison-soaked racism and is just really out there.”

I'm sure you're all wondering what the line they are talking about is. Well, Here ya go!

“Three men at McAlester State Penitentiary had larger penises than Lamar Pye, but all were black and therefore, by Lamar’s own figuring, hardly human at all.”

It's definitely an attention grabber. I love what these guys have done with Game of Thrones, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they make the transition to film. This sounds like it will be a great film project for them. You'll find the description of the book below.

They busted out of McAlester State Penitentiary–three escaped convicts going to ground in a world unprepared for anything like them….

Lamar Pye is prince of the Dirty White Boys.  With a lion in his soul, he roars–for he is the meanest, deadliest animal on the loose….

Odell is Lamar’s cousin, a hulking manchild with unfeeling eyes.  He lives for daddy Lamar.  Surely he will die for him….

Richard’s survival hangs on a sketch: a crude drawing of a lion and a half-naked woman.  For this Lamar has let Richard live…

Armed to the teeth, Lamar and his boys have cut a path of terror across the Southwest, and pushed one good cop into a crisis of honor and conscience.  Trooper Bud Pewtie should have died once at Lamar’s hands.  Now they’re about to meet again.  And this time, only one of them will walk away….

Stunning BATMAN: STRANGE DAYS Animated Short

You've got to watch this amazing Batman animated short from producer Bruce Timm. It's called Batman: Strange Days, and it was made in celebration of Batman's 75th anniversary.

The short is described as "a lost tale from Batman's past, the Dark Knight tracks a strange giant to the mysterious lair of Dr. Hugo Strange."

I absolutely love the the 1940s film noir and horror atmosphere that is has. It's actually based on the earliest version of Batman, and they set the story in that era. I also like how Dr. Hugo Strange was used as the villain because he was Batman's first real supervillain in the comics.

This made me really miss Batman: The Animated Series. I would love to see a new series with this setting and style.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will Include "Disaster Movie Imagery"

In a recent interview with EW, director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg discussed their next X-Men movie X-Men: Apocalypse. They shed some more light on what the film will be about and teased some of the things that we will see. All we've really known up until this point is that the film will be based in the 1980s and that it will feature younger 80s versions of some of our favorite X-Men characters.

Singer told the magazine that the film will be “somewhat” based on the 1990 comic storyline Age of Apocalypse, which features ancient villain Apocalypse and takes place in an alternate universe. Singer says that won't be a part of his movie though explaining,

“[The movie] won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with."

Kinberg added,

“From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”

Bigger than Days of Future Past?! That's surprising because Days of Future Past looks huge. The fact that they think this new movie is going to be even bigger is intriguing. Singer went on to talk about how Days of Future Past and Apocalypse will link,

"You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"

It definitely sounds like there's going to be an interesting set up. It will be cool to eventually see how the two stories actually connect with each other. The director then went on to confirm that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will all be back to reprise their roles, but he also reiterated that he wants to introduce Gambit and Nightcrawler to the movie as well.

"I’m excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the ‘80s."

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released on May 27th, 2016. I'm already excited for it, but I'm sure I'll even be more excited when I actually get to see X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Gladiator Comedy Short Film - MINIMUS

Here's a funny comedy short for you to watch today called Minimus, and it's set in the time of Gladiators in ancient Rome. The movie was directed by Jonathan Hopkins for Future Shorts. Here's a brief synopsis:

The Colosseum, ancient Rome. Enormous, armour-clad gladiators eagerly await their turn to fight and die an honorable death in front of a bloodthirsty crowd. Except for Minimus, the weediest gladiator in history. Minimus is freaking out big time. But can he overcome his fear and meet a hero's end?

I thought the short was very amusing and the production value is really solid. It's hilarious watching the little guy freak out through the whole thing.
