This Daphne and Velma tween cosplay by Marque Vision Photography is very groovy. The girls really nail the look and attitude of their characters. All we need now are a tween Fred, “Shaggy,” and a Great Dane named Scooby-Doo, and the gang will be ready to solve a mystery or two.

Story Behind the PULP FICTION Reference in CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

0
0

One of the funniest easter eggs in Captain America: The Winter Soldier wasn't a reference to another Marvel property. It was a reference to Samuel L. Jackson's Jules Winfield character in Quentin Tarantino's 1994 classic Pulp Fiction. Maybe you caught it, maybe you didn't, but thanks to /Film and directors Anthony and Joe Russo, we have a little background on how it ended up in the film.

SPOILERS in case you haven't seen the movie yet.

.

.

.

.

At a certain point in the film we are led to believe that Nick Fury died. That's what he wanted Hydra to think. After they defeated Hydra and took down S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury, Cap, Falcon, and Black Widow meet in a graveyard at Fury's fake gravesite. His tombstone had the following quote:

The path of the righteous man: Ezekiel 25: 17

That's part of a bible verse quote that Samuel L. Jackson quoted in Pulp Fiction. I've seen the movie twice so far, and the first audience I saw it with cracked up when they saw it. The second audience didn't even flinch at it. So who knows how many people caught it.

Here's the explanation of how the quote made the final cut:

Anthony Russo: Well yeah, we, I mean, we just, we kept trying to figure out what his tombstone should look like and we couldn’t settle on anything like–

Joe Russo: Like what would his epitaph be and, you know, we went through like maybe 10 iterations of his tombstone. And I remember was it–?

Anthony: We were just sitting in visual effects one day.

Joe: Dan Deleeuw, our effects supervisor, came up with the idea to do that.

Anthony: I don’t remember.

Joe: I think it was. But again, you know, we’re always because we’re geeks and we love that kind of stuff, when we make movies, we’re always trying to put it in the movies, our movies for other people, our TV shows. So it’s better to put something in there that is a wink and a smile and excites people than just something bland, you know?

I loved that they threw that in there. It was a fun surprise.

David Lowery in Talks to Direct PETE'S DRAGON Remake

0

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery already co-wrote the screenplay for Disney’s remake of Pete’s Dragon, and now he is in talks to direct the film as well. The 1977 original was a musical that followed an orphan on the run from his abusive adoptive family accompanied by his best friend, an invisible dragon named Elliot. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and it is nearly unwatchable as an adult, mostly because of the terrible animation and effects. That’s a shame, because it has some really great songs.

The new version, co-written by Tony Halbrooks, is expected to take a different tone and will not be a musical, which is a shame, because (again) the original had some really great songs. Lowery’s most recent feature, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, is maybe tonally a bit different than what you’d expect from a Disney movie, but it also features a man on the run. And his 2009 feature, St. Nick, is also a story of kids who’ve run away from away from home. So it seems like a theme he’s drawn to, which makes me really intrigued to see what he’ll bring to the table.

On the whole, I’m a little ambivalent about the project. Like I said, Pete’s Dragon is unwatchable now, and I’ve kind of been wishing for a remake, but the songs, and particularly Helen Reddy’s performance of them, are a thing I don’t want to lose. So here’s the deal, David Lowery, make your probably more realistic movie, but let Reddy sing “Candle on the Water” over the credits, and we can call it good.

Fans are divided about producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman's version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There are a lot of people who are excited for it, and a lot of people who are kind of pissed. I actually stand on the side that thinks the movie is going to be decent. It looks like it will be very action-packed and entertaining. I'm sure the next trailer they release is going to have a lot more footage that will get fans even more excited. The movie comes out on August 8th! if you want to watch the trailer for the movie again, click here.

Awesome 1940s-Style DC Comics Heroines Pin-Up Art

0

Here's an extremely cool set of 1940s-style pin-up art featuring several iconic heroines form the DC Comics universe. They were created by Ant Lucia, and I think they turned out beautifully. We've posted a lot of pin-up style fan art over the years, but this set has more of that old-school classic feel them them, which I love. One of my first jobs was as an assistant to an artist, and one of his specialties was pin-up art, so I learned a lot about the history and the craft of that style.

If you like any of these enough you can preorder the first five prints (Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Batgirl, Stargirl, and Mera) today, and another five will be available for preorder in about a month at QMx's DC Comics page.

"Each DC Comics Bombshell will be rendered on a museum quality 18"x24" art print and will be priced at $14.95."

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - Beware The Wrath of the Kingpin

ASM2_SpideyScreen.jpg

If you're Spidey, you should also look out for the wrath of Green Goblin, Electro, Kraven, at some point Black Cat, and of course CARDIAC!

Yeah, that last one is false, but it is something that I vow to make happen.

Regardless of my where my wishful thinking takes me, Amazing Spider-Man 2 the game, like its movie counterpart, features a huge number of villains. A safe bet would be that Rhino, Vulture, and Shocker all make appearances as well, given that they have all been a part of one Sinister Six incarnation or another in the past. The first game was very promising, though it had its share of issues, and Beenox has hopefully had enough development time on the sequel to iron out some of those kinks. Kingpin is a great character when used to his potential, and I'm hoping they use the backstory featuring Peter's parents to implement him in a unique and creative way.

Peep the very cinematic trailer below, and let us know what you think.

Also, WHY ISN'T CARDIAC IN THIS GAME?

In my mind I feel like Cardiac is a version of Nicholas Cage when Andy Samberg plays him in that SNL skit. After introducing himself he will always say "Why was I not in that movie?!"

I think I scare myself. Enjoy some screens of the game below, while I go and work on my Cardiac relaunch story titled Cardiac Attack: Revenge of the oh so sweet sliver shoulder pads. It will sell buku copies.

Two More Mediocre Posters for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Fox has released two more character posters for their upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. These feature Colossus and Blick, and Iceman and Kitty Pryde, respectively. Like the posters last week, one character is in profile, the other is standing behind them, looking directly at the viewer. And like the posters last week, it appears to be sunset. Look, I appreciate that they’ve kept a comparatively tight lid on footage from the movie, as it’s nice to have at least a few surprises in the theater, but they aren’t exactly crushing it with the poster designs.

And here’s the thing: I am actually wicked excited for this movie. I like the young cast, it’ll be interesting to see them all, um, “interacting” with the old cast, and it’s always great to see Hugh Jackman do his Wolverine thing. I would be quite content if Bryan Singer were to just make X-Men movies until he dies, far, far in the future. But these posters are doing nothing for me. Hopefully they’ll kick it up in the 6.5 weeks to the release, or else just stop releasing this boring stuff, because it’s actually starting to cool my enthusiasm.

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits U.S. theaters May 23, 2014.

How I Solved The Riddle of Popeye’s Big Forearms

Mega Man’s arms are part energy weapon, so the gigantic forearms makes sense. But I got to thinking, why would Popeye have oversized forearms? So I grabbed a jar of salsa and squeezed (sorry, I didn’t have a can of spinach) and the muscle that was working the most was my forearm. In the cartoon, Popeye is known to be able to squeeze the spinach out of a can without opening if first. Even more impressive is that he can launch it out of the can at great speed and distance. So Popeye has huge forearms from squeezing cans of spinach.

Have I thought this through too much? I’m squeezing salsa jars, so maybe.

To help get you even more amped to see this movie Universal Pictures has released two red-band trailers packed with funny new footage.

The movie was directed by Nick Stoller, and it follows a young couple suffering from arrested development who end up living next to a fraternity house after the birth of their newborn baby. If BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN vs. CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 Were a Boxing Match

Yesterday, Disney confirmed that Marvel's Captain America 3 will be going directly up against Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman. The films are to be released the same day, and neither studio is showing any sign of backing down. In an interview with Bloomberg (via ComingSoon), Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros, stated that there are no plans to change the release date of the Man of Steel sequel:

“It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16. However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for Batman vs. Superman.”

A lot can happen in two years. But for now, if these two films are gonna kick off the summer blockbusters of 2016, I think this showdown deserves a proper introduction.

Boxing Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the movie theater. It’s May 6th, 2016, and we have the summer’s main event.

Introducing first, from the Marvel/Disney corner, wearing red, white, and blue shorts… no wait, he’s putting on a new outfit — it’s a much more “stealth” outfit made of kevlar with only a few red accents… oh wait, no. He’s getting back into his old uniform now… from Brooklyn, NY, it’s Captain America!

In the Warner Bros/DC corner, wearing red shorts… no wait, he’s removing the red shorts. And he’s just… ummmm, leaving them off. He’s now explaining to the judges that the S on his chest is not actually an S, but a symbol that means “hope.” The judges seem unphased by his remarks. From the alien planet of Krypton, it’s Superman!

Let's get ready to RUUUUUUMMMBLE!

Commentator 1 : This is quite the matchup. But there’s no doubt that, in terms of powers, Kal-El is the more naturally gifted opponent.

Commentator 2: True. But he hasn't had a fight in 3 years. Captain Rogers has a lot of momentum going into this fight. After he and The Avengers pulled off the ultimate team-up back in 2012, he continued to get into the ring. He made a cameo appearance in Thor: The Dark World which pleased fans a lot. He had a record breaking box-office weekend for his second solo film. And let’s not even get into how he and The Avengers handled themselves against Ultron last year.

Commentator 1: Yes, it was amazing when he — Oh wait! What’s this?! A third challenger???

Commentator 2: It seems Batman is now getting into the ring and wants to go toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel. This is interesting, but one can’t help but assume that they’re gonna resolve their differences and team up at some point in this fight.

Commentator 1: If you look in the crowd you can see other members of the Justice League waiting to get into the ring as well. They’re wearing disguises, but they’re not fooling anyone.

Commentator 2: I’m sure we can expect to see them pop up toward the end of this showdown. Maybe not in a satisfying way, but surely they'll do just enough to build anticipation for the next fight.

Commentator 1: I'm surprised anyone is in the crowd at all tonight. There were devastating casualties and an obscene amount of destruction the last time Superman got into a fight.

Commentator 2: Let's hope Captain Rogers doesn't get caught in one of Superman's signature "headlocks."

Commentator 1: The judges would surely deduct points for that move. But they have looked past the fact that Captain Rogers brought his shield into the ring, so who knows.

Commentator 2: Well, it’s the end of Round 1. We’ll be right back after a word from our sponsors.

Commentator 1: This fight is brought to you by your childhood. Your childhood self dreamed that these movies would be possible, and here they are.

Commentator 2: This fight is also sponsored by overpriced movie theater popcorn. Overpriced Movie Theater Popcorn, you’re stepping on it.

ASSASSIN'S CREED Movie Has New Writers

assassins-creed-movie-has-new-writers

Empire reports that there are new writers on board the upcoming movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit video game, Assassin's Creed.

Michael Fassbender is still slated to produce and star in the film, however, it appears that the studio feels the need to bring in writers Bill Collage and Adam Cooper to weave the tale of the freerunning assassin.

The duo has previously written Accepted and New York Minute (that one starred Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), and they got a story credit for Tower Heist. Not sounding so stellar, I know, but they have several higher profile, more prestigious films in the pipeline, including projects with Darren Aronofsky (The General) and Ridley Scott (Exodus). They’re also working on an adaptation of the novel Devil in the Grove, Jerry Bruckheimer’s Shake, and Luc Besson’s Transporter 4.

I am one who believes in the stigma associated with video games turned into movies. 90% just don’t seem to work. I love playing Assassins Creed, and I am a fan of Fassbender's work. Hopefully the Cooper/Collage combo can bring an acceptable product for us to enjoy.

For right now the studio is still holding on to an August 2015 release date. Considering the fact that there is still no director attached to this film, I am having my doubts about that.

Until Next Time…

Here's the Third Final Trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

another-final-trailer-for-the-amazing-spider-man-2

Here is another final trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. First there was the final trailer that we posted last month, and then the alternate version of the final trailer that we posted a couple of days ago, and now, behold the final international trailer. Like all of the other trailers we’ve seen (and we’ve seen a lot), this one looks great, but I still have a nagging feeling that this movie may not be any good. I like Marc Webb, and I love, Love, LOVE Andrew Garfield. There is a great supporting cast. Pharrell is working on the music. All 37,000 villains are played by solid actors. But story and character are everything, and I’m worried that’s going to be ignored while they focus on setting up their new spinoff movies. I really hope I’m wrong.

Good or bad, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens on May 2. Let's hope it's as good as the trailer.

The 2004 documentary Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy is available to watch online. When it originally aired on A&E, they cut an hour, so if you watched it on TV, you missed a big chunk. The full 2.5 hours was posted on Youtube in 2012, but we're just discovering it now. It's got great commentary from all the original cast and crew. Thanks to The Film Stage for finding this gem.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is currently doing some reshoots, which is normal for any movie, so don't worry. Zoe Saldana tweeted a photo from the set of the film featuring Karen Gillan and her rehearsing an extended fight scene in the movie. The photo came with the following caption:

"@KarenGillan2 and I rehearsing our extended fight scene! Gamora and Nebula are gonna kick each other's butts!"

I won't lie, one of the most anticipated moments for me in this movie is when we get to see these two characters batter each other. I'm expecting it to be one of the greatest fight sequences in the movie. The movie is going to be packed to the brim with action, but as far as one on one fight sequences go, I'm sure that this is going to be the big one.

The movie is set to be released in theaters this year on August 1st!

DISNEY INFINITY: 2.0 Edition Introducing Marvel to the Mix

Disney Interactive released a new trailer today announcing what everyone figured was coming down the pike, though no one knew when. Disney Infinity is bringing on the heroes from its own Marvel stable of characters. While it’s not a surprise, it is very much welcome, as I have been on the fence when it comes to buying a starter pack for Infinity.  Now with Marvel officially in the fold, my money is as good as spent. All we have is the admittedly fun little trailer of Captain America’s shield making the rounds through the land of Infinity, but while we wait on some additional info, here are my picks for the initial wave of figures and sets. First though, here's the trailer.

Individual Figures

Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Falcon, Dr.Doom

Sets

Stark Tower and the Daily Bugle

Any other characters you'd like to see?

Michael C. Hall Would Consider Playing DAREDEVIL in Netflix Series

0
0

Yes, I am a closet comic book geek and one of my all-time favorite superheroes is The Man Without Fear, Daredevil

With that being said, you can understand my joy when I heard that Marvel and Netflix were joining forces to bring Daredevil to the Netflix streaming lineup. I wasn’t really worried about the content of the show because we all know the hit that Fox took for their version of the blind lawyer with a darker side. I don’t think that Marvel will allow that to happen again. However, I was concerned with who they would cast as the lead role. I was hoping they would hire Lee Pace to fill the role. I know that they already have him in the Marvel Universe playing Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy, but a man can dream can’t he?!

Well, it looks like the people at Marvel have their eye on a much bigger fish. There have been rumors circulating that Marvel wants the one and only Michael C. Hall, aka Dexter Morgan, to take the job. Yesterday Vulture had a chance to ask the actor what he knows about the rumors. This is what he had to say:

Last night, at the premiere of Hall's new Broadway venture The Realistic Joneses, we asked the actor about those juicy rumors. "I've heard them, but I think that's all they are — rumors," Hall said. "Don't misunderstand, I would definitely consider it … but I can't tell you any inside information, because I think they're nothing but rumors." With Dexter so recent in his rear view, would he really be open to returning to TV so quickly? "I really am enjoying mixing it up a little bit, and I'm committing to things that have a foreseeable end in sight when I start them," admitted Hall, "but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of [a new series] happening at some point. But I'd have to read the script!"

Hall has been very vocal about not wanting to do anything dark or anything that would keep him tied down for a long period of time. I guess being on Dexter for 8 seasons has left him feeling the need to spread his wings. I am glad that with a 13 episode season and some rather dark stuff that is inevitably going to come with playing Daredevil, Hall is still willing to think about starring. I hope they decide soon so they can start filming this summer as they had previously planned. I can’t wait!

Until Next Time…

Sideshow Collectibles Life-Size Han Solo In Carbonite Figure

For a cool $6,999 you can own the Sideshow Collectibles 7 1/2 foot tall screen-accurate replica of Han Solo in Carbonite. 7 grand? Geez, who do I have to throw into a Sarlacc pit for someone to buy this for me? Harrison Ford’s horrifying, frozen mug is just the decor my living room needs.

The life-size figure also features a rear power canister and light effects on the sides and base. If you do plan on purchasing one, pre-orders open on April 10th, and they are offering flexible payment plans. Just beware of droids offering themselves as “gifts,” and any Jedi that come knocking at your door. That’d be a clear sign that you’re about to get robbed.

GAME OF THRONES Renewed for Two More Seasons

game-of-thrones-season-4-emilia-clarke1.jpg

I'm happy to report that HBO has announced that they will be developing two more seasons of Game of Thrones. That will take us through season six, and then I'm sure the cable network will renew it for a couple more seasons.

HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo made the announcement, saying,

Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other, [Series creators] David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

The premiere of season four drew in HBO's biggest audience numbers since The Sopranos in 2007. I'm sure the audience will just continue to grow, and the series itself is sure to get better and better as it moves forward. This is such a satisfying and entertaining series to watch, and I hope HBO doesn't cancel it until they've told the whole story.
