THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - Watch The Unused Title Sequence

$

Latino Review has shared an unused title sequence from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-man. The titles were done by Dan Pierse at Framework Studio.

Here is what Pierse had to say about the titles:

I had the opportunity to pitch on the Amazing Spiderman trailer last year and it made it all the way through the animation stage. Sadly, it was not the only horse in the race and was passed on down the line. I did get a chance to develop how to attach the ‘web’ and the shard together with spline dynamics and Xpresso. All the swinging and webs are completely controlled by dynamics. Good Times!

Do you like to watch this type of unused footage before or after you have seen a movie?

Two Jiu Jitsu Black Belts Square Off In Short Film DUEL

Serge Brenton sent us a short film he directed called Duel, featuring two jiu-jitsu black belts squaring off in epic fashion. The fighting looks amazingly real, and the slow motion is done to the point of perfection. It could've been longer, but I can't say that I wasn't impressed when it ended. Watch it below and give your thoughts! Check out his other work on Vimeo as well!

Comic Review: JUSTICE LEAGUE #6

$

Tyrants!

Been a while. This month brings us Justice League #6 and the conclusion of the Darkseid invasion storyline that formed the Justice League in the New 52 Universe. Does it sink, or does it swim? Let’s see, shall we?

Review:
We see Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash and Cyborg fighting for all they got against Darkseid while Batman (sans cowl) goes to rescue Superman on Apokolips. Without saying too much, the outcome of this battle helps change the general public’s opinion toward superheroes as a whole. Not only that, Cyborg gets to play a big role in the climax of the skirmish with Darkseid.

What I will say is that the League still at this point is trying to figure out their dynamic as most feel the team up against Darkseid is a one-time thing. But of course, Batman being the brains of the group, looks at the bigger picture and reminds the team that an attack as massive a scale as Darkseid’s could happen again. Now, if only the group could decide on an official name…

Plus, we got two teasers. One featured Pandora, the mysterious hooded woman who we’d seen in the backgrounds of all the New 52 #1 issues. It looks like she was the cause of the New Universe even forming, and The Stranger is taking her to task over that. The other teaser featured two mysterious characters who are clearly future villains for the League, a clear reaction to the rise of Superheroes.

What worked:
It was nice to see Cyborg get such a huge part in this issue, which shows that he can play with the A-Listers of the DC Universe. Speaking of the A-Listers, they finally worked together against Darkseid and actually injured him quite a bit. Teamwork!

Not only that, Wonder Woman more than made up for her poor showing last issue. Green Lantern didn’t bug me so much this time around.

Again, Superman got to come off Super, but in a small dose. And on a side note, capturing the reaction of the civilians caught in the crosshairs of this battle was a nice touch story wise.

What didn’t work:
Eh. The ending to this initial Justice League arc felt very abbreviated and not nearly as epic as a battle between the League and Darkseid should have been. I almost wish they would have chosen a lesser villain or even one of Darkseid’s lackeys to be the League’s first major villain. Darkseid definitely was a match for the League power-wise, but one of the things that makes Darkseid so damn impressive is his cunning. I would have liked to have seen more of that.

With all the rich history backing the New Gods (even though it has not been introduced in the New 52-verse) overall I felt like that Darkseid was wasted overall here in his re-introduction.

What was just ugly:
You might cringe a bit when you see how Wonder Woman and Aquaman gain the upperhand in the League’s fight with Darkseid. Ouch!

Conclusion:
I  felt, despite some of the good points, that Justice League #6 was a weak ending to the Darkseid/League formation story arc. But I still have faith in this title and can’t wait to see what happens next!

ABC's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Casting News

$

To me, ABC is a hit or miss station. Some stuff they put out is good, most of it I avoid. I have some casting news that I found on Deadline, for two shows that I don’t plan on watching.

First is for ABC’s version of Beauty and The Beast. The lead female role has been found and it is Ruth Bradley (In Her Skin). The Irish actress will be joined by Scottish actor Darius Campbell as the leads in the pilot.  Here is a little synopsis that was given:

A fantasy re-imagining of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale wherein an embattled princess, Grace (Bradley), discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast, Shiro (Scottish singer-actor Darius Campbell), a mercenary bodyguard.

Lame!

Also on the casting radar is Monique Gabriela Curnen. She has been cast in as yet untitled Roland Emmerich drama, whose pilot will also air on ABC. I have ranted plenty of times about Emmerich’s work and you all know my disdain for him. I will rant a little bit more about my feelings for him after I give you the synopsis for the show.

Written by Emmerich and Harold Kloser and to be directed by Emmerich, the project centers on Carter (Max Thieriot), an astrophysics grad student in NYC who learns that he is the chosen one to destroy the forces of evil. Curnen, repped by the Kohner Agency and Authentic, will play tough, no-nonsense FBI Agent Tracy Meyers.

Ultra Lame!

Whenever I see Emmerich’s name attached to anything lately, the first thought in my head is that it will be a stinker. Like the kind of stuff you would be embarrassed if you were caught watching it. I have a feeling that this will be the same way. Luckily, for those of you who are interested, you won’t have to leave the comfort of your couch to partake in this potential crapfest. Let us know what you think.

Rufus Sewell (Dark City, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Anne Heche are in final talks to star in Mickey Liddell's new thriller. Variety reports that they would star along with newcomer Alycia Debnam-Carey in The Occult. The film will be directed by Christian Christiansen. The film is being produced by Liddell and Pete Shilaimon, with Michael Zelman, Jennifer Hilton, and Scott Holroyd seriving as executive producers. Filming is slated to begin in North Carolina later this month.

Occult follows "a small commune on the verge of witnessing an age old prophecy, that predicts the coming of the devil's daughter, come to fruition. As the shared eighteenth birthday of five girls approaches a sequence of murders causes panic to spread through the community making those to wonder whether the prophecy is coming true or someone is silencing those that known too much."

Dark City is a classic film, and I am interested in seeing this thriller. I have always liked occult thrillers. What is your favorite thriller?

Zachary Quinto Returns for AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 2

The cast of FX's American Horror Story season two continues to grow. Yesterday we reported that the next season would focus on Jessica Lange's character. THR is reporting that Star Trek's Zachary Quinto is set to reprise his role in the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk drama.

The sophomore season will likely air in October. The story "will take place in an East Coast mental institution and center on Lange's new character. (In Season 1, she played the nosy, all-knowing Constance, who lived next door to the evil property.)"

Here is what Murphy had to say in a recent interview with EW:

We have designed the second season of American Horror Story completely around [Lange's] character. We are designing this amazing new opposite of the Constance character for her. She and I have spoken about different things. She has a lot of ideas and has a lot of input into her character.

I loved the first season and am interested in seeing where the story goes. Are you happy to see Quinto reprising his role?

The Avengers did it again! Within a 24 hour time period the latest and greatest Avengers trailer was viewed on iTunes 13.7 million times! This shatters the previous record which was The Avengers Super Bowl spot, which had over 10 million views. I've watched it about 27 times already myself, and I think I'll go ahead and watch it again. While I'm at it, you might as well do the same thing. It can't hurt by adding a little more awesomeness to your day.

Do you think The Avengers has the ability to beat Avatar at the box office becoming the highest grossing film ever made?

Here's the official press release:

Marvel Studios announced today that its new trailer for this summer's most highly anticipated movie, "Marvel's The Avengers," has been viewed over 13.7 million times in the first 24 hours of its debut, setting a new record for the most viewed trailer on iTunes (http://www.apple.com/trailers) and the iTunes Trailers app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The new trailer, unveiled Wednesday, February 29, exclusively on iTunes, gives fans an exciting look at "Marvel's The Avengers"—an action adventure of a lifetime—based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series "The Avengers," first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since.

In "Marvel's The Avengers" the world's greatest Super Heroes assemble when Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) join S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to protect the world from the dangerous and powerful villain, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

An exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects,  "Marvel's The Avengers" is from Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures, produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Joss Whedon from a story by Zak Penn and Joss Whedon with the screenplay by Joss Whedon.

"Marvel's The Avengers" will be released on May 4, 2012.

HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE - Awesomely Awful Fan-Made Film

Hollywood is taking its sweet time trying to get a new live-action feature film adaptation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe into production. I know it will eventually happen; I just don't know when that will be. I imagine it will be sooner rather than later, as its actively being worked on at Sony Pictures.

While waiting for the movie to be made Daniele Spadoni Regista created his own live-action/GGI film called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Origins. I'll be honest, it turned out hilariously bad, and I posted it for a laugh. The production quality may be awful, but it's so awesomely awful that it's entertaining. Enjoy the video!

THE KILLING Promo Poster Arrives

I can not wait to see the second season of AMC's The Killing. The first season was a must-watch edge-of-your-seat thriller. The new key art has arrived above thanks to THR.

Here is what AMC's head of marketing Linda Schupack had to say in an interview with EW:

All of these characters have secrets. The tagline ‘Be careful what you uncover’ speaks to the discovery of those secrets and what unravels from their exposure.

The story will pick up where the first season ened. Viewers will join "Det. Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) as she continues the case to find Rosie’s killer after thinking it was closed – a result of possible deception by her partner Det. Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman)." The sophomore season is also going to add more mystery, by introducing another unsolved case.

When we thought about the second season, we wanted something moody and beautiful and vaguely unsettling. This is a cop drama unlike other cop dramas, so our approach to the key art was to be as distinctive as the show itself.

The Killing returns to AMC on Sunday, April 1 at 8 p.m. Who do you think killed Rosie?

Joel Kinnaman is Officially ROBOCOP

Last week is was reported that The Killing's Joel Kinnaman was offered the lead role in Jose Padilha's (Elite Squad) Robocop remake. Today Deadline reports that he's accepted the role and the casting is official. Kinnaman will be the new Robocop, and I think it's a great choice to bring Robocop back to life on the big screen. The role was originally played by Peter Weller in 1987.

Here's what Padilha had to say about his plans of the remake in a previous interview,

Wars in the future are going to be fought with drones. We won’t send a plane with a pilot in, it will be drone. It’s getting that way now and ten years from now that’s how wars are going to be fought. But what if a drone goes wrong – who is to blame then? Do you blame the drone? And that problem asks if you can you consider a robot guilty of a crime. Or is it the corporation that made the robot that is guilty? How do you fight back against drones when you don’t have drones?

He's obviously taking a differnt approach on the film giving the story a fresh feel. I think there's a chance this could turn out to be a good movie. It's hard for me to be accepting of remakes, but this could work because of the talent on board developing it. Do you think Kinnaman is a good choice?

Did you Get Your San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Passes?

I just wanted to check in with our readers to see if you got your San Diego Comic-Con 2012 passes because they're sold out!

Badges went on sale at 8am this morning Saturday March 3rd, and they were all sold out within minutes, which is insane! I remember the time when I could show up to the convention and buy my ticket at the freakin' door. We will never see those days again.

I understand there were a lot of people frustrated with the system this year and many people couldn't even get through to the page to buy tickets, which sucks. Twitter is full of pissed off Geeks.

So, were you one of the lucky few who will be attending Comic-Con on July 12th - 15th? If so we'd like to know, as we will once again be holding a GeekTyrant meetup. On top of that awesomeness, it's going to be an incredible year of movie panels, we'll most likely see some stuff from Man of Steel, The Hobbit, Star Trek 2, Oz, The Great and Powerful and maybe even The Dark Knight Rises which opens up in theaters the following weekend. Who knows, maybe there will be a special screening of the film up at the con!

For those of you who didn't get badges there will be a time closer to when the convention time where Comic-Con International will release a limited number of badges that you will have a chance to buy. Comic-Con released the following statement on their Facebook page...

Comic-Con 2012 badges are sold out. Although our site and EPIC’s registration site was able to handle the load of customers wishing to purchase a badge, the conduit between the link in the email and the registration site was overwhelmed and service was intermittent for a short period of time. However, the link was not incorrect and was not dead, and once the volume of hits decreased it worked as planned. There will be a chance to purchase refunded and returned badges at a later date. Thank you!

Hopefully we see you at Comic-Con!

New Image from DeamWorks Animation's THE CROODS

Here's a great new image from DreamWorks Animation's upcoming 3D CG animated movie The Croods set to come out in March of 2013. The has the potential to be a great and funny film. It's being written and directed by Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders, who has made a couple of other great animated movies such as Lilo & Stitch and How To Train your Dragon. The original drafts of this script were written by John Cleese, so it would be cool if we found some Monty Python type humor make it's way into this final product.

The film will include an all star cast of voices that includes Nicolas Cage, Ryan ReynoldsEmma StoneCatherine Keener, and Cloris Leachman

Here's the Synopsis:

The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure from DreamWorks Animation that takes us back to the beginning - to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious - a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today hasn’t evolved yet. At the heart of this comedically chaotic world is the Crood family, led by Grug (Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage), an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing all he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes at a dramatic pace.

Together with his wife (Catherine Keener), kids (Emma Stone and Clark Duke) and ornery mother-in-law (Cloris Leachman) in tow, Grug guides his family through this spectacular environment, full of amazing creatures, to find a new cave to call home. Along the way, they encounter Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an imaginative and resourceful newcomer who takes risks and wholeheartedly embraces the promise of tomorrow. Audiences will relate to the hilarious family antics as Guy helps the Croods navigate their way into the bright future.

With the talent involved with the film, do you think this will turn out to be a fun comedic adventure?

STAR WARS Concept Artist Ralph McQuarrie has Passed Away

Artist Ralph McQuarrie passed away on Saturday March 3rd at the age of 82. For those of you that didn't know, McQuarrie worked on the Star Wars films with George Lucas, and basically designed the whole look and style of that universe. He also worked on several other classic films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T.

We've lost an incredibly talented and imaginative artist, but his work will live on forever in the amazing films that he's helped create throughout the years, some of which are some of the greatest movies ever made.

Here's tribute to the artist that was posted on McQuarrie's official website...

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph McQuarrie.

People say you should never meet your heroes. Ralph was the exception to that rule. We were all fans of his amazing art long before we were blessed with his friendship. But once you got to know Ralph it was impossible not to become a fan of Ralph the man.

Ralph was a very special person for many more reasons than his undeniable brilliance with a brush. He was an especially kind, sensitive, deep, modest, funny and fascinating gentleman. And as fine a role model as any one could have wished for.

His influence on design will be felt forever. There's no doubt in our hearts that centuries from now amazing spaceships will soar, future cities will rise and someone, somewhere will say...

"that looks like something Ralph McQuarrie painted."

One final word... I just want to thank McQuarrie for all of the wonderful and timeless art he's created over his career.

Yesterday movie artist Ralph McQuarrie passed away at the age of 84. He worked on developing incredible concept art for several classic geek movies in his career. His most famous and well known work is easily from the timeless sci-fi fantasy film Star Wars, and I thought it would be appropriate to share a great collection of artwork that he created for the original Star Wars trilogy. Enjoy.
