David Fincher Wants Christian Bale to Play Steve Jobs in His Movie

Apparently, director David Fincher wants Christian Bale to play Steve Jobs in his biopic written by Aaron Sorkin. It would be awesome to see Bale in the role. I think he could pull it off perfectly. He's got the look and the talent.

Fincher recently met with the studio about the possiblity of directing the movie. It's not set in stone yet, but if it happens this would be my dream team of talent to bring this movie to life.

The news comes from The Wrap, which says that Bale has not yet been approached to play Jobs. I'm sure one day they will, though. The actor is currently taking a break since finishing his role as Moses in Ridley Scott's Exodus

The biopic is based on Walter Isaacson's bestselling authorized biography. That book was based on more than 40 interviews that the author had with Jobs, as well as interviews with friends, family, and colleagues.

The film itself is said to consist of three long scenes that feature the launches of some of Apple's most buzzed-about product launches, including the Mac, NeXT (after Jobs had left Apple), and the iPod.

Walt Disney Studios and IMAX have announced that they will be bringing several movies to the epic IMAX movie going experience. Those movies include Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tomorrowland, and Star Wars: Episode VII. I'm a huge fan of IMAX, especially when the movie actually includes footage shot in the format. Below you will find the full press release:

IMAX Corporation and The Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company, today announced an agreement to release several of Disney’s upcoming films in IMAX® theatres under an extension of the companies’ long-running relationship.

Under the agreement, IMAX will be part of Disney’s release strategy for its most highly-anticipated live-action tentpole films, including Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 2014), Maleficent (May 2014), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (August 2014), and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 2015), Tomorrowland (May 2015) and Star Wars: Episode VII (December 2015).

“Disney has enjoyed a terrific ongoing collaboration with IMAX, and we are thrilled to extend this relationship with a collection of exciting, highly anticipated cinematic events that are perfect for the immersive IMAX format,” said Alan Bergman, President, The Walt Disney Studios.

"For the last several years, Disney and IMAX have worked together to deliver extraordinary cinematic experiences to audiences around the world," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “The combination of the great product being created by Disney and the overwhelming enthusiasm of moviegoers to see films in IMAX theatres makes this agreement really exciting.”

“Disney’s and Marvel’s larger-than-life characters and dynamic universes clearly resonate with our core audiences,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President of IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “We are delighted to build upon this longtime association and continue to collaborate to bring many of the most iconic and cutting-edge properties in the world to life in the most immersive way possible.”

Venus De Milo: The Forgotten Female Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

venus-de-milo-the-forgotten-female-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtle-header.jpg

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have always been a staple of late '80s to '90s geek culture. Four turtle brothers are exposed to mutagen and then raised by a Ninja rat to fight crime and eat pizza in only the most radical of ways. It's so easy to forget that at one point they were once five with a girl turtle, who would go down as one of the most controversial characters in TMNT history.

In The Beginning...

Venus de Milo was introduced in Fall of 1997 in the first episode of the live action NInja Turtles: The Next Mutation. Besides the fact that she was the only female TMNT, she stuck out as being the only one named after not a famous painter, but rather a work of art. She donned an aqua colored bandanna that extended down the length of her back to somewhat resemble a ponytail, further defining her as something different from the team. She was not trained in the art of Ninjutsu like the other turtles, but rather utilized ancient shamanistic magic and manipulated orbs to fight. It's also worth noting that in this adaptation of the show the writers were clear that although the turtles were raised as brothers they were not biologically related. Ultimately their goal would be to introduce Venus and develop a love story between her and one of the turtles.

Origin...

The story goes that when Splinter rescued the turtle squad from the sewers, he accidentally left Venus behind. Left alone and only to fend for herself, Venus made her way to Chinatown and was found and raised as a daughter by a Shinobi magician who named her Mei Pieh Chi. The two moved to China and Venus trained and grew stronger, completely oblivious to the fact she was not the only one of her kind.

Venus's adopted father, however, knew about the TMNT squad and kept in contact with Splinter through the dream realm. The two discussed many things in their dreams, like turtle training tactics and this crazy mirror the magician had that trapped these evil humanoid dragons. Somehow, the dragons escape and kill Venus's father and trap Splinter's soul in the spirit realm. On his death bed, Venus father tells her about the rest of the turtles and tells her to travel to New York to meet her destiny. All in all, it was some heavy s*** for a kid to experience on a Saturday morning.

Venus goes to New York and meets the turtles, and eventually rescues Splinter by leading the turtle squad through the dream realm. Now officially a part of the team, it seemed like Venus had a bright future ahead of her full of adventure and pizza with the rest of the ninjas in a half shell. The ride for the turtles was indeed radical while it lasted. They even got a crossover episode with the Power Rangers!

Trouble In Paradise...

Not even a Power Rangers crossover could save this show. Fans of TMNT had more than a few complaints about the continuity following the live action movies, as well as the changing of Leonardo's katanas to a double bladed ninjato and Raphael combining his sais to make a staff. David Johnson of DVD Verdict may have summarized the show best with...

"At first glance it's sort of cool, and certainly brings back memories of the days of Corey Feldman-voiced shenanigans. But the cheapness of the production eventually catches up with the show. The turtle costumes look odd, particularly the masks, which appear to be molded out of whatever Gumby is made of. The opponents, be they Foot Clan or others looks less like legitimate threats to turtle well-being and more like your neighbor's weird kid and his friends LARPing in the backyard. When a moderately-budgeted feature film series is unable to figure out how to make Splinter not look like a Muppet with rickets, it's no surprise this shoestring kids show can't stick the landing either."

All that aside, the biggest fan complaint was for the first time, the turtles were not brothers. It seems silly, but fans liked the fact the turtles were a "bound by blood" team, and without it I guess it wasn't the same. In 1998 TMNT The Next Mutation was cancelled after a 28 episode run. This was a big deal at the time because it had been the first time since 1987 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn't have a show on television.

Life After Death...

While the television series was dead, the turtle squad lived on throughout the continuity of several comics out at the time, which didn't include Venus. Developers of The Next Mutation tried to rectify this by starting a blog called Venus' Venerations in which Venus was to write about her adventures alongside the turtles as they went about their business in the comics. Her first letter reads as follows...

Hello and Happy Greetings of Seasons to you!

I am from China, and am unfamiliar with Christmas and New Year's Eve, but I am learning of this great tradition that you have in America. Christmas is a most holy day, and I will honor it as best as I am able.

I must admit that I am a bit overwhelmed with the season! So many colors and so much music and lights and people scurrying about and singing and ringing bells and the traffic and the cooking and the candy and ... and so very much more! The positive energy being given out at this time is stunning, and it makes me quite happy! I quite like this time of year in the United States, it makes me feel very welcome, indeed!

My new friends and I have been battling the evil forces of the Dragon Lord and his Rank Dragons. I promise you that I will not stray from the Shinobi's duty to keep these vile creatures from our world! I am duty-bound to do so, and will let nothing prevent me from this task save for death!

Enough of such things! Master Splinter tells me that this is a time of great joy for the West, and I will bring no further darkness into this page. I just wanted to assure you that despite the Holiday season, we are fighting to protect our world from any who seek to do evil.

I hope that you are doing well and are healthy and happy, and that this time of peace and love finds you contented. We are most fortunate to be living in these times of great discovery, but we must work hard to maintain balance and light.

Tonight we are to make decorations and egg nog... I do not know what this egg nog is, but Michaelangelo says that it is tasty. He is usually right about food (although his musical tastes often leave me bewildered), so I look forward to having some! I must go. I wish you the very happiest holiday season and will speak with you again!

Peace be with you,
Venus

Other letters express her excitement to be in New York City, her longing to return to China, and how Donatello is teaching her Mathematics. All of these entries (around 12 or so) are only accessible through the wayback machine as they were removed in 2008, when co-creator Kevin Eastman sold the remainder of his rights to Peter Laird.

Venus De Milo 1998-2008...

Although the show had many issues spanning from low production values to disregarding canon, the non-brothers aspect seemed to irk most hardcore fans above all else. Venus received the blame, being viewed as shoehorned into the original lineup and the sole reason the turtles were no longer brothers. Furthermore, fans thought it was ridiculous that Venus was a Chinese raised turtle that practiced a magic called Shinobi when Shinobi is actually a Japanese word for ninja. Creator Peter Laird openly despised the character and forbade her from appearing in any future comics, series, or merchandise and removed her letters from the official website. Despite his best efforts, Venus lived on in a one page gag in Image comics where an alien morphed into her and kissed Michelangelo, and on a "Where Are They Now" skit on Robot Chicken.

...And that is the last mention ever made of the forgotten female Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle,

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD - New Photo of Tom Hardy

It's been awhile since we've seen anything from George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, but thanks to The Film Stage we have a new photo to share with you. It features Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky. The movie has been in development for years, and we still have to wait until 2015 before we actually get to watch the damn thing. I'm, excited about it though! Enjoy the photo because who knows when we will see anything else for the movie.

"Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived."

The movie will be released in theaters on May 15th, 2015.

Legendary CEO Thomas Tull Optimistic About PACIFIC RIM 2

Pacific Rim was such a ridiculously fun movie to watch last year. I absolutely loved it, and I really want to see a sequel. We know that Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham have ideas and plans for a sequel and that they were actually writing it last year, but we don't know how far along they are or where the project currently stands. While promoting Godzilla, Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull talked to Collider and gave an optimistic update on Pacific Rim 2, and it sounds like he wants to make it happen!

We love being in business with Guillermo and frankly that movie, if you look it up, did I think more business than the first X-Men, did more than Batman Begins, our first movie, did more than Superman Returns, The Fast and the Furious, Star Trek- so for a movie that was an original property that we made up it’s done really well. It did north of 400 million dollars globally and both the home video sales and the merchandise have way over-indexed, so it seems like fans really loved the world. So we’re going to sit down with Guillermo and as long as we think it’s authentic and there’s something to say, we’re certainly open to it.

Let's hope that everything comes together for this movie, because I know fans would love to see it happen! Here's some information about the sequel that Del Toro perviously revealed,

"I’ll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you’re gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special."

Del Toro went on to explain how that is possible:

"Just think about it for a second. We sent Gipsy to the other side, right? It exploded, but whatever remains stays there. We’ve drifted with a Kaiju brain. Well, then start riffing on that and you’ll get to something."

There's no doubt that this sequel could be insanely cool.

Justin Lin to Direct New York Crime Thriller called TIMES SQUARE

Fast and Furious franchise director Justin Lin is set to direct a period film set in New York City called Times Square. The film is set up at Focus Features who acquired the Black List script that was written by Taylor Materne and Jacob Rubin.

The film is a crime thriller that is "set in the last days of the old Times Square, when it was transitioning from a seedy lawless Midtown Manhattan dump to a family-friendly corporate mecca."

In that backdrop, when a secret from his past is unearthed, a young man’s loyalties are divided between his neighborhood boss who raised him and the grizzled ex-cop who swore to protect him.

I love New York City and this is a really interesting setting for a film. It will be fun to how it turns out both with the story and visually.

Lin is also set to direct the next installment of the Bourne franchise with Jeremy Renner. He’s also attached to direct L.A. Riots, which is a movie scripted by 12 Years A Slave writer John Ridley

G.I. JOE Sequel Director to Take on JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu has chosen to take on another 1980s animated property and adapt it into a live action movie with a feature version of Jem and the Holograms. This is the perfect project for the guy who also directed two Step Up movies and two Justin Bieber documentaries. Unfortunately, he's still attached to direct a third G.I. Joe movie. I don't really care about Jem so I could care less how that movie turns out.

Chu made the announcement with his producing partners Jason Blum and Scooter Braun. You can check out the announcement video below. In it they reveal a unique approach to the property, where they are asking fans for creative submissions that could be used in the feature film release.

The Jem and the Holograms series was created by Christy Marx in collaboration with Hasbro, Marvel and Sunbow Productions. It premiered in 1985 and ran for three seasons. The story followed the adventures of Jem, the musical superstar alter ego of a young woman named Jerrica Benton who, with the help of a holographic computer called Synergy, is able to clandestinely perform rock concerts with her friends.

Anyone excited about this?

They were created by the CG team of Rushes, and the shorts bring to life "the everyday urban world around our feet," and give us "a humorous take on what might happen to the litter and rubbish on London's streets when we're not looking." I'm sure that these will bring a little more entertainment to your day.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Review - Marvel's Political Thriller Triumphs

$
0

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are known for their work in comedies, specifically the brilliant and genre-bending sitcoms Arrested Development and Community (they directed both pilots and serve as executive producers on Community). So it makes sense that with Captain America: The Winter Soldier they would deliver a seventies-style political thriller that happens to have a superhero in the lead role. They told me they’ve been calling this movie “Three Days of Captain America,” and if you don’t get that reference, you need to watch Three Days of the Condor right now. It’s streaming on Amazon Prime. I’ll wait.

The movie picks up with Cap two years after the events of The Avengers, and in that time he has been trying (and failing) to adjust to life as a twenty something who was born 95 years ago. He is just lost as a WW2 hero parachuted into a post-9/11 world. He works for S.H.I.E.L.D., but he is in conflict with both Nick Fury and Black Widow over their methods and objectives. The Russos didn’t want to shy away from modern political parallels. They ran straight at them, and this movie highlights everything that is actually pretty terrifying about S.H.I.E.L.D. and their extra-judicial activities, which are made all the more terrifying by the fact that there is something shady going on at S.H.I.E.L.D.

If you think this all sounds heavy and thinky and boring, that is where you are wrong. The Russos handle everything with a deft, light hand. Their comedic sensibilities start the movie out feeling kind of like a comedy, and there are funny, surprising moments throughout. There is a TON of cool tech that will have geeks drooling. And the action sequences are incredible. You’ve all probably seen the elevator scene by now, and that scene works as a microcosm for the whole the story. There is also an amazing car chase. The Winter Soldier doesn’t shy away from civilian death and collateral damage the way The Avengers did, but the death that does happen is strangely bloodless. Literally. People get shot without bleeding. It’s a slight disconnect, but I guess you do what you have to do to keep your PG-13 rating.

I know that Marvel had a hard time casting Steve Rogers/Captain America, but thank goodness they went with Chris Evans. He projects a world-weariness without ever dipping into cynicism, which is a rare feat. His resolution and certainty are an anchor, and the movie wouldn’t work without his unique brand of clear-eyed idealism. He plays especially well with Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/The Falcon, a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq who is having his own struggles to readjust to civilian life. They relate to each other well, and you are just going to be so happy that Cap finally has a friend. The directors are also smart to make Wilson a very, very grounded character before we even get a hint of the Falcon. The ridiculousness of his wings is undercut when they are worn by such a down to earth person.

The least down-to-earth of them all is Nick Fury, the one-eyed director of S.H.I.E.L.D. played by Samuel L. Jackson, whose philosophy of breaking all the rules to protect the greater good is grossly perverted by the villains inside S.H.I.E.L.D. who want to break all the rules to promote a “good” that is truly horrific. Jackson plays a man who has created the weapon that will destroy everything he stands for and is chastened without ever being humbled. Jackson has played Fury across 6 movies and a TV show, and this is the first time we’ve really seen him changed by the action. This is also the most badass we’ve ever seen him, as he gets an incredible action sequence in this film.

Scarlett Johansson is also the best we’ve seen her as the Black Widow is betrayed by her own moral relativism. It is a unique pleasure of the MCU to see supporting characters develop a little at a time in movie after movie. I really think it lets her down here, though, as this movie seems perfectly calibrated to set up a solo Black Widow movie, but that set up will likely be undercut by her role in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Rounding out the main cast are Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and The Winter Soldier and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce. Stan’s first appearance is in a slow motion shot that, frankly, looks a bit like Criss Angel Mindfreak. There’s not a whole lot to his performance as The Winter Soldier, as he is basically an automaton, but when the mask finally comes off, Stan brings enough depth that it leaves you rooting for whatever bit of Bucky remains. Redford, who was the hero of the aforementioned Three Days of the Condor, plays extraordinary arrogance capably enough. I’ll also mention Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, who was fantastic, which is no surprise because he is great in everything.

As for the ending that is going to reverberate throughout the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe? It is big, and it is earned. Everything is going to be different, and I cannot wait to see where things go from here.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the best movie Marvel Studios has put out yet. It hits theaters on April 4, and you should run, not walk, to see it.

Below are the first two posters for Bobby and Peter Farrelly’s upcoming sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. The posters tease the infamous orange and blue tuxedos Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels sported in the first film twenty years ago. Dumb and Dumber To also stars Laurie Holden and Rob Riggle and is set to hit theaters November 14th.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To.  The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

THE GRUDGE Horror Film Is Being Remade

Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe are planning to remake the 2004 horror film The Grudge, which is already a remake of the Japanese film Ju-On. Both were directed by Takashi Shimizu.

The studio is already working on it and has hired Midnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhler to write the script. He is also working on a remake of the insane movie Jacob's Ladder.

The American version starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a nurse living and working in Tokyo. She is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim. It cost around $10 million to make. In the end it pulled in $187 million worldwide and led to a terrible sequel.

The new film will be produced by Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise. I thought we were over the phase of scary pale killer ghost kids. Even with Raimi producing the movie, I still don't understand why it's being made again.

20th Century Fox has set release date for several of their upcoming Marvel properties. They announced that The Fantastic Four 2 will open July 14th, 2017, the new untitled Wolverine sequel is set for March 3rd, 2017, and then there's an untitled mystery Marvel movie for July 13th, 2018.

Since Fox owns the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, the mystery film will come from one of those franchises. I'm really hoping that it's Deadpool. I don't want to wait that long to actually see it, but better late than never! Of course, there's always the chance that it could be a film that combines the worlds of X-Men and Fantastic Four, which has previously been rumored. We'll eventually find out what the mystery movie will be, but in the meantime what are you hoping for?

James Mangold is set to return to direct the sequel to The Wolverine. The Fantastic Four reboot recently locked in its cast with Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Miles Teller, and it's set to be released on June 19th, 2015.
