“If They Could Transform” Art Series by Darren Rawlings

In this art series, Darren Rawlings takes iconic cars from film and television and asks the question, “What if they could transform?” I’d like to think that if these cars were indeed Transformers, they’d all be Autobots. However, KITT, The Mach V, and The A-Team’s GMC Vandura definitely look more like Decepticons. Either way, if you were a robot in disguise, the worst possible disguise would be that of a famous movie car… “Autobots, transform and stand out.” Yeah, that doesn’t have the same ring to it.

New TRANSFORMERS Animated Series Coming in 2015

The Hub has officially announced that a new Transformers animated series is in development and that it will be released in 2015. I don't know if you watched Transformers Prime or not, but it was actually really good. I hope this new series turns out to be just as entertaining. Producer Roberto Orci previously talked about the series, saying,

“It’s not really a reboot, it’s sort of a continuation of it [Transformers Prime] in a tonally different form. We want to make sure we’re servicing the right audiences. We got to do a very adult version of Transformers that you just saw in this cartoon, a very sophisticated one, and we also want to make sure we don’t leave other kids behind, who love Transformers too and don’t want to be as scared as Transformers Prime could make you, that kind of thing. So we’re going to have a good parallel series that is connected, but it’s a little more friendly to the family.”

Orci is then asked if the events of Transformers Prime would carry over into the new series, and to that he replied,

“I’d love to have as much continuity as possible, and that’s part of what’s been fun about being a part of the Transformers universe since we jumped on the movies. It’s trying to take all the research and all the things that they have — giant bibles and binders of Transformers iterations. So we always tried to thread the needle as best we could of taking their best, favorite stories and kind of putting them in some order that was consistent. That’s always our goal.”

Here's the official announcement:

The Hub Network, champions of family fun and the only network dedicated to providing kids and their families entertainment they can watch together, announced today that a new animated series is currently in production for the globally renowned TRANSFORMERS brand. Set to debut in early 2015, the new action-packed series is being produced by Hasbro Studios, the production and distribution division of Hasbro, Inc., and is executive produced by Jeff Kline (“Transformers Prime,” “G.I. Joe Renegades”).

Taking place years after the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in “Transformers Prime,” this all new series centers around our hero Bumblebee stepping up to lead a brand new team of Autobots. The show features an all-star cast with Will Friedle (“Boy Meets World”) returning as Bumblebee, along with Darren Criss (“Glee”), Constance Zimmer (“House of Cards”) and Ted McGinley (“Married with Children”). Blending 3D characters with hand-painted environments, the series mixes action-packed adventure with lots of comedy, making it a rip-roaring experience for kids and families to enjoy together.

This is a big year as the TRANSFORMERS brand celebrates its 30th anniversary. The Hub Network will also be celebrating the success of the franchise with special events to be announced later this year

HOUSE OF CARDS Super Dramatic Turn Around Compilation

As much as everyone likes to tout how great House of Cards is, there are some silly moments. Duncan Skiles, for example, noticed that there are a ton of dramatic turn arounds throughout the series. You set a few of said turn arounds to the dramatic chipmunk music, and you have comedy.

Here's a great commercial for the Chevrolet Traverse that reimagines the trailer for Captain America: The Winter Solider with kids playing all the roles. It's actually pretty damn adorable, and I love that the kid wears his glasses over the Captain America helmet. This was done really well, and I enjoyed it. Hopefully you do too.

International Trailer for GODZILLA with New Footage

If you want to see some more new footage from Gareth Edwards' badass looking Godzilla film, here's an international trailer that will make you happy. A lot of it shows the destruction that will be caused by the giant beast. I do like that they are still keeping the monster hidden in the trailers. I hope they keep it a tease until the movie is released.

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

The film will be released on May 16th!

"It all started out as a mild curiosity in the junkyard, and now it's turned out to be quite a great spirit of adventure."

If you're a fan of Doctor Who, you've got to watch this fun animated tribute to all of the Doctors that have come through the series. It was created by Chang Dai, and each Doctor regenerates into the next throughout it. I love how the animator perfectly captures the essence of each Doctor.

5 Reasons POKEMON Season One Makes Zero Sense

0
0

The Pokemon television series was an essential part of my upbringing. Every Saturday I watched as Ash Ketchum, Misty, and Brock fought through the region in an attempt to become Pokemon masters...I think. Now, watching it on Netflix as an adult, I find many confusing plot points that childhood me never questioned. When it comes down to some of these facts, the bottom line is they don't make sense. And that's okay because I still love Pokemon. I do, however, also love to gripe, so let's dive into this.

5. Team Rocket Trying To Catch Pikachu

   Sparky's Bad Ass Pokehair.

   Sparky's Bad Ass Pokehair.

Why is it Jesse and James think Giovanni, the leader of the strongest Pokemon gym in the Kanto region, is interested in a low level Pikachu? From the very start they try to capture Ash's Pokemon like it's some kind of crown jewel, and it's not even near that level. Throughout the show, we've met far cooler Pikachu than the one Ash has been given. Ritchie's Pikachu with the sweet hair flip was more unique than Ash's Pikachu. Let's not also forget Ash once met a Pikachu that could not only surf, but had blue eyes and glowed when big waves were coming! If I were Jesse and James, I would've abandoned the journey right there and spent every waking moment trying to score the surfing Pikachu, rather than break the bank following some random kid. Here's a crazy thought...why not catch a Pikachu in the Pikachu forest with your own Pokemon! Does Giovanni even need a Pikachu? He genetically created a clone of the rarest Pokemon of them all, so why is Team Rocket scrambling to get him a second tier electric type at best?

                                                                  Who wouldn't steal this Pokemon?

                                                                  Who wouldn't steal this Pokemon?

4. Brock's Dad

In episode 5 Ash and Misty meet a mysterious man named Flint. Flint sells rocks and seems to know quite a bit about the town gym leader (Brock) and the personal struggles he faces everyday. Nothing really out of the ordinary about his knowledge, considering there are only two residential homes in Pewter City, it would be normal for the town to be aware that Brock is the oldest of 10 and keeping house while their deadbeat father is off training.

If the Gym collapsed this town would be nonexistent

If the Gym collapsed this town would be nonexistent

Ash, knowing absolutely nothing about Pokemon at this point, foolishly tries to fight Brock with Pikachu. Brock, hardened by the loss of his mother, the abandonment of his father, and the cruelty of life, mercilessly tortures Pikachu to the point that Ash forfeits the match out of fear for his Pokemon's safety.

Out of nowhere, Flint is back and tells a devastated Ash to hook his Pikachu up to the town generator so that he can beat Brock. At this point I'm unsure if there is any concrete science to what's being done, but it works, and Pikachu sets part of Brock's gym on fire. Brock's Pokemon is weakened by the sprinkler system and everyone is sure Ash will get the victory and Ash walks away like he's too good to win that way. Remember now, that the night prior, Ash hooked up his Pikachu to a generator to give him more juice, but an advantage like this is just way too beyond his moral wheelhouse. I digress...

Selective blindness is hereditary

Selective blindness is hereditary

Ash and Misty leave, and Brock chases them down and gives Ash the Pewter badge because....who knows at this point. Flint then appears and proclaims he is Brock's long-lost father. His long-lost father who in a village with two houses and his own family making up 90% of the population was able to fly under the radar and make a living selling rocks at the town entrance. It could be due to the fact that no one in their family opens their eyes, but damn, how did no one notice this? Furthermore, how much of an ass is he for watching his son suffer from afar and just now, after witnessing this is like "time for me to be a dad"? WHY THE SUDDEN CHANGE?! I hated this episode as a child, and I still do watching it now.

3. Ash Earns Quite A Few Badges Without Battling Which Ultimately Leads To His Downfall

Battling gym leaders for badges is Pokemon 101. Earning those badges is imperative not just for entry into the Pokemon league, but to gaining the respect of your Pokemon. Ash only legitimately beat Lt. Surge (Electric), Koga (Poison), and Blaine (Fire). As for the rest...

  • Brock gave Ash a badge for a reason I'm still unsure of.
  • Misty gave Ash a badge after battling Team Rocket.
  • He saves the Celadon gym leaders Pokemon from a fire.
  • Saffron Cities gym leader loses as she is unable to fight due to a hilarious Haunter interrupting the match.
  • If you really want to split hairs Ash won the Viridian city badge not by facing Giovanni, but Team Rocket with Giovanni's Pokemon. It's quite obvious this would be a huge advantage in Ash's favor.

By the time he reaches the tournament, Ash has only earned about half his badges through actually battling the gym leaders. So when Ash is humiliated on national television by Charizard just up and refusing to battle causing him to forfeit, I want to laugh in his stupid prepubescent face because he should've known. In his defense, Charizard is a very hard Pokemon to win the respect of. It wasn't until he turned to stone in the movie that their relationship made any real progress.

2. Gotta Catch Em All?

By the way to catch them all you're going to need your parents to buy both games...

By the way to catch them all you're going to need your parents to buy both games...

Fairly obvious point here. Professor Oak entrusts Ash with a Pokedex and encourages him to catch as many Pokemon as possible for him to research at his lab. Ash responds by catching very few Pokemon and eventually releasing a good deal of them back into the wild. This is what happens when you entrust a 10 year old with any real responsibility.

1. Why Is Mewtwo Wearing Armor?

When we first see Mewtwo in the show he is hooked up to some strange robotic shell that harnesses his power. It could have been assumed that Mewtwo was far too powerful of a Pokemon to be controlled and that keeping him restrained was Giovanni's one way of controlling him. Why would he need to do that, though? Pokemon up to this point have been shown to be obedient even if they can be a bit unruly, and never considered so dangerous they need constant restraint. This mystery has haunted me for ages, and I'm happy to say I've finally discovered the answer!

Prior to the first Pokemon movie in Japan, a radio drama was created with the translated title of Birth of Mewtwo. After a fossilized eyelash of Mew is found at an excavation site by a Team Rocket member, Giovanni is approached by a scientist who has successfully cloned his daughter, who died years ago. The scientist says the method can likely be replicated with Pokemon, and Mewtwo is created.

Mewtwo at first leads a happy life and befriends his human clone counterpart Ambertwo and battles wild Pokemon to grow stronger. Sadly, the scientists learn that clones of humans can only live four to five years and Ambertwo passes not long after befriending Mewtwo. Depressed, Mewtwo destroys the lab he is created in and is then sedated and placed in armor to better be controlled. A very sad explanation that really makes you feel for the world of Pokemon, unlike the story of Brock's dad... That prick.

Official STAR WARS: EPISODE VII News - Setting and Principal Photography

Up until this point, most of what we’ve heard regarding Star Wars: Episode VII has been mere rumor or speculation. We all knew that with J.J. Abrams at the helm any details would be shrouded in secrecy, but this has been ridiculous. There still hasn’t been a single official casting announcement made — even for the expected return of the primary cast from the original trilogy. However, today two pieces of news have dropped straight from the house of Disney.

First off, Disney and Lucasfilm announced through their official Star Wars site that principal photography for Episode VII will begin in May. I’ve included the official announcement below, along with a timeline of all the start dates for the previous installments in the franchise.

The second piece of news comes straight from Disney CEO Bob Iger. Iger spoke at Disney’s annual shareholder meeting this morning and casually dropped this piece of information about the upcoming Star Wars film: (via Screencrush)

So the new trilogy will pick up nearly in real time after the events of Return of the Jedi, which was released in 1983. So far R2D2 is the only confirmed character among the “very familiar faces” returning. But it’d also be safe to assume that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher will be suiting up for the start of production in May. There have been plenty of rumors for the casting of new trio of young leads, which you can catch up on here.

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to be released on December 18, 2015.

Official Announcement:

Disney and Lucasfilm are excited to announce that principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VII, directed by J.J. Abrams, will commence May 2014, and will be based at London's historic Pinewood Studios.

This will be the first Star Wars film to start shooting in the month of May. Lucasfilm has documented the first day of principal photography for every installment of the Star Wars saga:

March 22, 1976 -- The first day of principal photography in Tozeur, Tunisia, for Star Wars. A crew of 130 ventures into the desert in 42 trucks and cars, including eight army trucks full of equipment. The first shot was completed at 9:35 a.m.

March 5, 1979 -- The first day of principal photography in Finse, Norway, for The Empire Strikes Back. The crew endures the subzero temperatures, frostbite, heavy winds, and avalanches to pull off the first shot within 65 minutes of setup.

January 11, 1982 -- The first day of principal photography at EMI Elstree Studios outside of London for Return of the Jedi. Although inside a studio, the set must weather a sandstorm in a scene that would ultimately be cut from the film.

June 26, 1997 -- The first day of principal photography at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, England, for The Phantom Menace. Ending a long absence from the director's chair, George Lucas shoots a sequence in a bluescreen-lined set with actors Ian McDiarmid and Ray Park.

June 26, 2000 -- The first day of principal photography for Attack of the Clones at Fox Studios Australia. In their new home Down Under, the production crew once again photographs actor Ian McDiarmid three years to the day after Episode I started shooting.

June 30, 2003 -- The first day of principal photography for Revenge of the Sith at Fox Studios Australia. The first scenes shot feature Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, respectively, along with R2-D2.

One Character From JURASSIC PARK Will Return for JURASSIC WORLD

There's still a lot that we don't know about director Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World. However, he did sit down with IGN for an interview to talk about certain aspects of the movie. In the process he revealed the one character from the original Jurassic Park movie that will be back for the new film. Why don't we start off with that,

"I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go. But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world. This hasn’t been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story."

He may not be the character you'd like to see brought back into the story. I definitely wasn't expecting it, but story wise ti does make sense to bring him in. The director goes on to talk about the character Chris Pratt plays in the movie,

"He’s a classic hero in a very modern context. He’s the guy who will get you through the jungle alive – but like Malcolm, Grant and Sattler, he’s an expert in a scientific field that’s connected to our story. The character allows us to explore some new ideas about our relationship with these animals, without losing the humor and sense of adventure. He’s a great contrast for Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, who starts off very corporate, very controlled. Until the running and screaming starts. Then they need each other."

I have no doubt that Pratt is going to be great in this role. It sounds like he's going to play a really fun character. When asked how this movie would be different from the previous ones the director said,

"I’m not on a mission to separate this film from the ones that came before. That will happen naturally – I have different instincts. But, like a lot of people my age, I grew up on Amblin movies. They’re a part of who I am as a filmmaker, and arguably as a person. This film will have a lot of new ideas in it, but I think the spirit will be familiar. It will have an old soul."

I'm really excited for Jurassic World! After the third Jurassic Park movie, I never thought that we would see another one, so I'm very happy that we get to go back to this world. It is set to be released in June of 2015.

Fantastic New Trailer for THE BOXTROLLS

fantastic-new-trailer-for-the-boxtrolls

We've got another trailer for Laika Studios' new fantasy adventure The Boxtrolls for you to check out. This is the third feature-length stop-motion film from the studio, and it looks like it's going to be just as awesome as their first two movies - ParaNorman and Coraline. I love the amount of detail and care that goes into their film work, and the right amount of dark humor they include in their stories.

The movie is based on Alan Snow’s novel Here Be Monsters, which follows a group of sewer-dwelling Boxtrolls that have raised an orphan boy. The film has a great cast of actors that includes Ben Kingsley, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Elle Fanning, Jared Harris, Toni Collette, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, and Simon Pegg

A family event movie from the creators of “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” that introduces audiences to a new breed of family – The Boxtrolls, a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in the amazing cavernous home they’ve built beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher (Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley), comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs decides to venture above ground, “into the light,” where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnifred (Elle Fanning). Together, they devise a daring plan to save Eggs’ family.

The Boxtrolls opens in theaters on September 26th, 2014.

Pixar Developing THE INCREDIBLES 2 and CARS 3

I'm happy to report that Disney head Bob Iger has announced that Brad Bird is currently working on a story for The Incredibles 2! He also said that Pixar is developing a Cars 3, which isn't surprising. That franchise has made so much money for the studio that of course they're going to keep milking it.

The big surprise here is The Incredibles 2 and that Bird is involved with it, because I wasn't sure if that would ever happen. There are no other details on these projects or how far along they are, but back in 2007 Bird had this to say about it.

"But I think at Pixar, the bottom line is the story that you’re telling. And Pixar does not look at sequels as a financial plan. We feel we have a relation ship with the audience and that they believe in each movie we put out. We believe completely in every movie we put out. If I can come up with a story that is as good or better than that first film, then I’d love to return to that world, but it would have to be story first."

I do have to say, though, that I think making a Cars 3 is part of a financial plan. Those aren't the best movies that Pixar has made, but they do pull in the cash. In another past interview with Bird, he talked about his interest in returning the world of The Incredibles saying,

I really love those characters and if I can figure out a whole story to do I would do it. But one of the advantages that we had in the original Incredibles was that several of the characters had never really got to flex their muscles before. They were repressed, and it was about them discovering their own abilities. Any sequel to it, that particular thing — which is really a wonderful thing to be able to explore in a movie — that’s sort of gone. And so you have to find something that is equally interesting to do in a sequel.

I would not say no to [The Incredibles 2], because I really love that world and I love those characters. If I can figure out a complete thing — you know, I have a lot of ideas that I love — but the whole story, I haven’t got it yet.... if I can do that and make something that was to Incredibles what Toy Story 2 was to Toy Story, I would love to do it.

And now he is doing it! So that's awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has planned.

Marvel has released a few piece of really cool concept art for Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and I've included some sneak peek footage of the film that was part of the Marvel documentary that aired earlier tonight. The concept art features designs for Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, and what looks like will be a crazy fight between the Hulk and Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor! I've also included some photos from the Ant-Man test footage and Guardians of the Galaxy concept art as well featuring Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon.

Marvel is still in the pre-production process of Age of Ultron, but they start shooting the movie soon. I love what I'm seeing in this concept art, and I can't wait to see more! Hopefully they show fans some actual footage of the movie at Comic-Con.
